James, that was not rubbish! I found it really relaxing and loved the comedy interludes. Your videos are just as good whether you’re with Helen or not. You have a lovely way of making the viewer feel like they’re just out for a day with you , really personal and one on one.
Keep doing you, don’t worry about the weather or the content, it always works…. That’s why your channel is growing so quickly.❤
I couldn't have put it better myself, so hope you don't mind me saying that I'll 2nd everything you've said there! 👍😊
Couldn't agree more 👏
Well said. 👏🏼
Ditto..you just make your vlogs real James by vlogging as it is..as you said you can't help the weather...we love watching your reactions to where you are..and I felt I could actually taste those fish and chips..carry on and don't apologise for vlogs you don't think are watchable..they all are so carry on the good work..I really appreciate how difficult it can be trying to make interesting videos..but you succeed every time. Thanks James for the tour of Doncaster..I've never been there..I might never go there but at least I know what to expect..see you on next vlog..xx
Thomas Crapper was born in Doncaster. He held the patent for the floating ballcock. That's a great chat up line if ever you need one by the way.
It seems that he invented the toilet and the town fashioned itself on his invention as a tribute to him
I thought this was a load of crap till I googled it mind blown lol
Cheers mate 👍🏻
I'll use that on Friday night!
Born outside of Doncaster.... at Thorne.
We were there in early summer when all the costumes and dancers were parading and entertaining all the public. It was fabulous. James what are you trying to define? I think the UK is now in a total different reality as to what we are accustomed with. People have become insensitive, crass and fickle with any issue. Know this. Agenda 20-30 will effect everyone even those who consider themselves in "nice areas." I live in Teesside and the dereliction, decay, social decay seems universal. I know you want life to become bearable as it was 30 years ago but I think all of us are being coerced and forced into actualities and realities we inwardly hate. I was interested when you you mentioned the Chinese restaurant and having a great time yonks ago but that's it. Yonks ago. We all live in a very controlled realm where protocol and laws are steeped into every fabric of life on steroids. Around my way all you hear are emergency sirens and abject crime happening at any instance in time. But I think you crave freedom and wellbeing in this storm we are all in. God bless.
Here here Mark. Couldn’t agree more. Freedom would seems to have become a dirty word?
Oh God, you have summed it up so well. Isn't it depressing....
We'll never get the 70s, 80s back 😢
We'll said
Spot on mark. This isn't my world anymore.
James you're Doncaster vlog has done better than you thought I bet,I assumed you were busy because you've not got back to many comments not even a simple red heart of appreciation.
It's difficult, I try to reply to as many as I can but it can get a little overwhelming
@bythecurb thanks sure James look forward to your next vlog.
Getting more and more professional, without losing the humour, rawness and down-to-earthness - goooood lad!
Thank you
Love your pronunciation of Tickhill, you said tickle. My wife was born there on a small holding on Lord Scarborough’s estate. She calls it TickHill stressing the hill. Tickle had me laughing😂 “What’s up there? Sod all” 😂🤣
That's the posh way of saying it 😂
Lord Scarborough tickled her fanny
Not your fault about the weather James, I have never been, but I am sure it would be a decent place to spend some time if it was sunny. To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about the content, you are a joy to watch and always bring a smile to my face😀. Take care x
I can't believe how many people can only find value in sunny weather. What the hell is wrong with people?
You are doing a grand job lad. Just keeping it real. Thank you for your efforts. You do make me giggle.
Thank you so much :-)
Excellent editing. The pub scene floored me. You Brits don't let the weather stop you. 😂
Brolly goes up.....instant ASMR walking video 😂.
Great vlog mate. Your 'Slice of life' videos are brilliant. Keep up the good work.
Sprotbrough is nice not too far from there,,, my cousin lives there in cottage near the canal nice pub at the end of the row❤
Nice to see you still cracked on, even though the weather was totally against you!. Always nice to see where you are gonna be popping up. Keep up the good work and hope you feel better soon James 👍
That was so lovely you took his face of the vlog he asked this is why youre so liked guys xxx
Love a look round the different places on a bit of a walking tour...looks very clean. Nice and cosy on the sofa watching the rain x
Just loved this video, so down to earth and could not stop laughing at bits as it just sums up how everyone feel in the rain and trying to find something to do to cheer up.
This channel just gets funnier and funnier!
Us Brits love a moaner James...😅
And YOU...are steeped in the tradition of a good old Yorkshire moan! 😂
Love the disasters...love the rain...love the moaning...love the self-loathing...😂
Never stop James.😊
Enjoyed that!! I’ve never been to Doncaster, feels like I have now! And Salma Hayek! Great stuff👍🏻
That was hilarious. Better half was giggling all the way through. Seems we’re gonna have a drive out to Donny for the fish and chips. On a feedback angle, your editing skills are coming on a treat.
Thank you 😊
Orrr, i was looking forward to seeing you throwing some combinations in the pub James! Great effort mate, and that food looked (and sounded 😂) bob on ❤
Your a real character with that wicked dry sence of humour so keep doing your thing.👍
This was actually good for me to watch as i am from doncaster and know where you was at all times
Ohhhh, that brings back memories! Born and brought up in Donny! As a kid we'd go to Bawtry for a day out to visit the Sunday market........you could never park anywhere then either! lol! (1970s!)
Great little micro-pub on Platform 3 at Doncaster Train station, called the Draughtsman. Great beer, reasonably priced and sells Toppings Pork Pies which are the best in the World!
No point in complaining about the weather, it's England! Just get a pie and and a pint down you, you'll be reet!
Love and peace.
Canada here. The video was very entertaining. The street views are spectacular even in the rain. Keep up the good work. Nice that you are not all up, up all the time and we all get to relate to a real person.
Love these vlogs and your saving us a job of where not to go lol
Keep up the good work👍🍺
You could just sit in your van & talk & I'd still love your vlogs, such a down to earth fella, the first video i saw was your Benidorm ones, loved them & went on to watch all your others. Keep them coming, your a great youtuber x
Thank you 😊
Sure do miss fish and chips and the rain as not currently living in England. Great vlog. A nice tour of the town. Thanks.
17:20 the living definition of "its grim up north". When it rains, it rains without stopping.
@Bleedforme-zq2uf well indeed.
Thanks
Thank you so much 😊
You would like Seahouses the olde ship inn and Bamburgh Castle plenty of walks and pubs right up your street James and Helen 😊😊
We've been, loved it. If you look through our videos we made a vlog about it
Sorry I do apologise I had watched it but did again my husband and I were killing ourselves laughing over your expression of the price of drinks barbour jackets for dogs and humans
Being a Doncasrian the two extremes of Doncaster are Hyde Park (used to live there as a kid) and Bawtry (money money).
Doncaster itself is a dump now (wasn’t always that way).
I’m surprised you didn’t get mugged walking about with that camera lol. People have been attacked for far less. You so much as make eye contact in the wrong pub and mayhem unfolds.
I have paused video for this comment but I often pitch up in my peugot expert on the road next to Lakeside, nervous nights.
Best place to stay is on Bawtry road behind what used to be Pa
Punches Hotel (now Toby Carvery). It’s known to vanlifers and RUclipsrs. I stay there every other weekend with no problems ever as I visit family and do my part as carer for my mum (dementia).
Growing up I’m Hyde park was not easy, had to learn to defend myself and became a third Dan in taekwondo (before it became a bit wussy).
Reet I’ll play rest now…
Thank you, I need to go back when it's better weather, I'm in Sheffield today and it's chucking it down again!! 😕
@@bythecurb I’m in Filey, not far from your beloved Bridlington. Storm Barbet is really doing a number here. The waves are madness, the wind is downright dangerous. Some local roads flooded, tree down in Seamur (how on earth will I get to McDonald’s. Now?)
Just the last few months seen an increase in off grid camping (vans, cars, tents), up at the country carpark in Filey (signs say no camping but they’re ignored). So if you find yourselves down our way it’s a good spot for you.

I felt a bit under the weather a few weeks ago. Turned out to be bloody ‘Rona didn’t it. Still feel knackered now. Hope you (and Helen) are feeling better soon. Chris 👍🏼
I love how your highlighting our national dish fish and chips also our once great towns and cities, keep up the good work 😊😊😊😊😊
Chicken Tikka massala is the nation's favourite dish!
Nay lad nay it's COD & MUSHY PEAS thau knows!
Absolutely gripping content I can't stop laughing Helen would have loved the charity shop 😂😂😂😂😂
james be interesting to look in the local estate agents to see the prices in the local areas you visit
Do love a well presented family owned butchers shop, some pothole at 05:40 - could go fishing in that.
Thanks again fella
Me and my other half want to go on the lash with you both, you are the most down to earth people we have watched ont youtube.... Keep up the good sarcastic funny work 😅
What’s that great Yorkshire saying, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! Good to see you made it out and managed to seek refuge in a suitable watering hole!
you are the YORSHIRE carl pilkington great vlogs buddy
Thank you
Great Job James. Can’t help rain and good to have a brief look around Donny. The F &C review was spot on.
Good one James! ⛈☔😢.......😂Loved the pub scene. And, saved by a winning fish&chips. I've not seen the Flying Scotsman, will have to check that out. Thanks for tonight's entertainment.
Thank you. The fish and chips saves the day 😊
The Gentleman Fishmonger in Doncaster Fish Market, has had a stall for around 30 years, is a social media star. Fun fact Ian Bothan and his wife travel to Doncaster to buy their fish from him. Martyn and Sarah also run the DN1 Deli Dinner. Delicatessen & Dining Room by The Gentleman Fishmonger and it's their first anniversary this week. They are also aiming to be receive the first Michelin Star in Doncaster.
Very interesting vlog...cheers! Well you made me laugh you just gotta get out of the van even if it's raining! That pub was a nice suprise in the rain 🙂
Just found your channel by accident, James. I watched your visit with Helen to Scarborough & now watching this!!!! You and Helen are so down to earth!!!! Keep up the good work & the fish & chip reviews!!!! 😁👍🏻
As a man and wife who travel the U.Ks Beaches i love your videos, I photograph beaches and storms and will come across your travels as our worlds collide, great work and one of my favourite vloggers to watch to date, well done you!
Thanks Ian, you should start a vlog
I was born in Bawtry and one of my best friends parents owned Auckly fish shop in the 80s. I’ve not been home for a few years, you’ve made me want to take a trip back to Bawtry 😊
Best review on eating fish and chips I have seen yet. I could literally taste it. I would do anything to eat some British fish and chips right now. Keep it up James, you are so real!
Thank you, more fish and chips coming soon 😋
Brilliant James, comedy gold. Took me back to when I used to visit Donny back in the day as they always had the better shops than Scunny and it was undercover. Quite a bit has changed. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Cheers, Chris.
I liked that, seems like i am witnessing you record a time in history that will be watched in many years, thanks for uploading mate, subscribed ✌️
I’m watching your video at 04:47 I loved it 😍 those fish chips and peas looked delicious 😋 not had dandelion and burdock for years I used to love it in the glass bottles. Don’t you get scared out on your own? Some weird people around now a days 🤣😂 I love Boyes last time went to a big Boyes In Bridlington was about 8 years ago 😱 Doncaster looked nice shame about the weather. I love your accent 😊
Recently another UK RUclipsr (who shall remain nameless here) showed us the delights of very upscale hotels in both Beverley Hills and Las Vegas, and another Mansfield based channel regulary flies to the States to show us around New York, New Orleans and other amazing cities.......Meanwhile.....James shows us the delights of a South Yorkshire city on a rainy midweek day including a quick tour of the ladies underware and haberdashery departments of Boyes department store, and as I'm sure most will agree, this is why we love this channel and we love James and Helen, because it's keeping it real. I've been to Vegas and New York and as great as they are they can't hold a candle to Donny in the rain!
😂😂 That's brilliant. I love the comment, I know both the channels you are talking about. I do like them though 😊
@@bythecurb Yes, ther're both great channels but I felt it would be disrespectful to name them on your channel.....You're doing great mate, I reckon you'll be up to 30k subs in no time and will hit 50k at some point next year, you certenly deserve to....Go steady our kid!
Thanks mate
I fully endorse your observations, my favourite blogger on RUclips by a mile. James & Helen, your a WONDERFUL couple....💯😍
Well, Tasmania here again. We love just wandering around with you seeing the sights. You didn't explain that big monument thing with all the names though. We wanted to look in the florist shop as well. Our son has a large florist shop in Adelaide South Australia, called "Flowers Everywhere", so we always want to check florists out. His 2 daughters also work with him. What are you going to do in the winter? Great video. ❤🇦🇺
Great vlog James. You're so entertaining.
Brought back a few memories we used to call in most of the pubs you went in back in the day
Absolutely hilarious. Hubby and I loved this vlog 🤣🤣
Still chuckling here. Thanks James.
Stumbled across your channel a couple of weeks ago, bloody love it and now have the other half hooked as well!
Thank you so much, thanks for the sub
Great vlog James love watching you thanks 4 sharing
Love it when you blog and you look so excited lol.
Brilliant as always James ❤thanks
Fantastic again. Rained all day today in Pickering had to take refuge in a good chippy capplemans even served wine n beer result then went on pub crawl. Mushy peas to die for lol in chippy nice village worth a visit from ste n dragon
Weather crap...Vlog great! I left UK for Canada in 1990 and haven't been back in 20 years so this was fascinating .
Your perseverance in the rain was appreciated!
Ha ha. Great video. Particularly enjoyed your honesty.
Especially enjoyed you driving past my house in Tickhill! 😀
Best wishes from me here in Bangkok, Thailand.
They did indeed make flying Scotsman in Hexthorpe, my mum used to work at the Paddington bear factory, stuffing and sewing them up.
John Parr, Kevin keegan, Sarah Stenvson (my mate), all from Doncaster amongst others.
John parr from Worksop that’s its own town 15 miles away from Doncaster classed as nottinghamshire from Donny myself Sarah did Doncaster and the country proud in 2008 winning the countries first Olympic medal in her sport what a great achievement
@@NNC93 oh no! I always thought he was from Armthorpe doh! I taught Sarah tkd in her early days. I was her first instructor (not for long though lol).
@@NNC93 at least we’ve still got Kevin Keegan and Louis Thomlinson
@@NNC93 just recalled another member of our club, Amanda Broadbent, medaled at the Olympics in TKD before Sarah, BUT it was a demonstration sport then.
@@micro_adVANtures Kevin keegan from armthorpe… and that’s great that you had some involvement nice to hear
Watching your real life videos living in Sunny spain really makes me appreciate my new life . Get you and Helen in the van to Sunny Almería
I live in Bessacarr so not far from Bawtry and Tickhill which I often frequent on a Saturday or Sunday for a drink or two, the two Indian food places are not great though, however Zinis is very nice for Italian food
We stayed in Doncaster on our way back to Cumbria. The Red Lion (weatherspoons) small room, red hot, no sleep! We went in The Queen Pub, it was ok, entertainment on. Thanks for that James. B
"Dreary drab wander with brolly". Loved it! The bus station was interesting. Loved seeing red phone box. Boys Store was great, haberdashery. You are very entertaining no matter what you do. Great show.
Excellent video, I don't think you realise how funny and entertaining you are. With you, we stay as we want to see what's next, so you have something that pulls people in, just look at your membership. That meal looks lovely. Looking forward to the next video 😊
Thank you
When I was a kid in the 50 /60s my grandad always went to Doncaster races and he used to bring back us Doncaster butter scotch it was in a kind of slab in a white cardboard pack with butterscotch embossed writing they were all individually wrapped in silver foil ,my grandad had been severely wounded in ww1 in Belgium blown up he had shrapnel in his body when he died of cancer in 1969 ,great bloke
From Doncaster. NZ past 30 years. Enjoyed it thanks. Hooted when t'husband glanced up when you were in the pub and exclaimed... Is that DONCASTER?!?
Charlie Williams was from Donny. Most of it's a dump but the surrounding areas are nice like Bessacar, Wadworth, Tickhil,l where Clarkson was born. There are some great pubs and restaurants in the town centre, oops sorry, city centre. Very run down in places, but lots of big industry and opportunities if you can be bothered to drive to. I worked there for 18 months, commuting from Sheffield, proper Yorkshire lads and lasses. Great vid James, thanks.
Went to a wedding in Doncaster 40 years ago. Traffic was gridlocked back then. What changed?
Use to be a Sunday market in Bawtry, I lived down the road in Rossington, many moons ago.
Well you went to Tickhill and Edlo and didn't drop into Maltby 😀 but having said that it's not Doni is it 😉 Nice to see some local places. I've not been into Doni town for years and it's changed so much from your video.
That timber joint in Bawtry had been there for years n years, shame to see it go.
I have heard the Misterton chippy is good as well so might be worth a trip out that way. Great video and that "our tune" made me think about when I worked in a factory 😂
How did you do that zoom in with the globe at the start of the video, you videod it zooming right in to doncaster lol 😊
It's made in Google earth studio
have you not herd of the fish & chip shop in a village called upton which is the otherside of gainsbourgh
Nope. Fish and chip review coming on Sunday night though :-)
the fish and chip shop in upton is still using the same range that was installed in 1947 and is coal fired, they only open on a friday tea time and saturday, everything cooked in dripping, you need to check it out @@bythecurb
Fish and chips saved the day. I did a week as a replacement salesman for Rowntree Mackintosh during the miners' strike in 1984.
There was a pub in a former church in the centre of Doncaster. I wonder if it's still there?
It’s still there but closed atm, not sure if it’s getting renovated
@@helenreasbeck1348 Thanks for that info, Helen.
It's funny how these videos open up memories.
I was put up in a really nice hotel, opposite the pub/church, in the honeymoon suite with a four poster bed.
I made the most and got my fiancée to come down from Darlington on the train for a couple of nights. We got married that August and we've just celebrated 39 years of wedded bliss 👍❤️👍 (well I say bliss...no... yeah👍🤣)
Camelots as it was.
I bloody love watching your vlogs they always make me smile 😊 Thank you 😎
Glad you like them!
Loved it I need to try the fish and chips shop they looked right nice x
I just came across you recently James. You and Helen are great! I laughed so much sa this one.. How dare it rain 🤣 Cone try some Scottish fish and chips soon 🙏
Thank you
14:52 Never heard of it. It looks like a cross between Wilko and Alders?
Yep, it's all the stuff you never thought you needed 😂
Yes, everything you will ever need. Our Boyes pretends it's got 2 floors, but it's one floor with one side higher than the other.😂
theres a castle at tickhill next to the mill pond. surprised you didnt mention it
Just been to Whitby -Boyes-yesss!! Don't have that where I am. Boyes, Yorkshire Trading,on to The Spoonie,up the steps, Brewery, down the steps, shops, pubs,Pie & Mash,Pubs, beach, chat to lovely people. Do it all again the next day-Bliss. Enjoyed the Vlog-I like the style of your Vlogs so much.
Just a fact about lakeside, there stands the Dome which, when built in the 1980’s was Europes largest indoor leisure centre with the only two-tier ice skating rink. It stands on the site of the former Doncaster Airport which I believe hosted the worlds first aeroplane race
Another little known fact (although quite morbid), more RAF aircrew died on the ground in Doncaster than anywhere else in the world during the Second World War. That is why there is a crashed bomber on that mural opposite the train station. Any bombers shot up over Germany were diverted to Pollington airfield and crashed into the ground there rather than damage their home airfields. Post war Pollington was used as a test site for Harvesters, later Case tractors on Wheatley Hall road. The tractor plant was also a target for the Luftwaffe in WW2, they were making mortar bombs for the war effort. The German bombers overshot and flattened Bentley.
It's been a lifetime since I've been to Doncaster, I used to go regularly as a kid 14/15 and me and my mate were up to allsorts! Smoke bombs under cars, letting stink bombs off in shopping centres, and my favourite was my mate inhaling the helium from balloons that we got from Millies Cookies, and he would go round asking people for the time in the squeaky voice!
I grew up in Donny and I’m back living here and I watched and enjoyed every second of this! I live quite out of town now so it was nice to see you walk around places I’ve not been in a while 😊
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
James ..just love you and Helens yorkshire accents.. Just one lad was in our class at school ..he stood out so much and our teacher loved his accent. Micheal Brandford i think lol ace memories ...i'm 64 this october. But shhhhhhhhhh..... my bestest ever boyfriend was from Barnsley......it's just the accent lol x

Our tune!! Loved listening to that on a tea break at work. All the warehouse men doing fake crying to entertain the little teenage girl (me). Tune took me right back to the 80s. See I watched to the end! ❤❤😂😂
Never looked around Doncaster it's great seeing all these different places can't help the rain its england remember pissing down ,pint looked nice and chippy tea head down mate have a good snore .
It all looked really good to me!!
You can’t help the rain.
Ooooh,, fish and chips!!! Looks bloody lovely!! You should have bought a pork pie for later!! Xx
Another great vlog, I've been to that chippy and it is awesome thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Silver street and the market place pubs were great for a good rumble at the weekends in the 80's early 90's
Most Town centres are depressing in the rain especially large town's and cities that have not heart and sole no shops apart from Fast food and barbers.higlight definitely was the fish and chips. shame you didn't buy a pork pie they looked fantastic
You could, at least, have read us some of the signs on the sculptures! Helen would've! 😉
I can't think of anyone I'd rather walk around a rainy Doncaster with 😀
