Helen I commend you for having such a positive flowing energy after many hours of gruelling shifts at the hospital. With you being a NHS worker, I salute you and appreciate you massively. James, you are such a privileged man to have such a wonderful caring lady. If she can't put a smile on ya chops, nothing will.

The reason there's so many Turkish barbers is because there's a special visa that entitles Turks to come here, setup a business and claim citizenship after 5 years. Also anyone they employ can also claim it after 5 years. So it's basically a dubious way to buy a UK passport and why so many are empty as barbering isn't really their main purpose. It gets even worse as a lot have been set up by criminal gangs, who are not only selling citizenship but running fronts for various other illegal activities (modern slavery, smuggling etc). I think there's a street in Plymouth which has the crown with 15 or so of them!

As a resident of sunny Scunny, this video turned out better than i thought it would have. It's a dying town, god help us if the steelworks closes. Of course there are some positives..... When did you visit, the high street looked busier than usuall. Good video all in all and thanks for coming.

After living there all my life (56 years) I've always thought it is a grim sh#thole , which isn't as bad as it seems because it means where ever else you visit seems wonderful. I'm currently on holiday in Spain and was dreading returning home, however after watching the video and seeing what a wonderful place scunthorpe actually is , I can almost bring myself to look forward to coming Home. Helen will like this, I think. Fun fact about nearby Flixborough. When I saw the Ferry House I recognised it straight away. I helped commission Burton Stather telephone exchange in 1974 and although I only lived in Sheffield I stayed in digs near the pub and went home at weekends. During the week I used to cycle around the area frequently passing the Nypro plant at Flixborough. You may recall that on Saturday 1st June 1974 is when the plant exploded trashing lots of properties in the locality.
Another little story, after Flixborough explosion I started travelling every day to and from Sheffield. The car journey pre motorway used to take ages to get back home on't Gleadless Valley. But one night as I reached the main road from Scunny, a fire engine on blue lights and siren shot past towards Donny. I thought chuffin' hell, that's handy, so I pulled out and tucked in behind it. I stayed with it as it tore past other cars even through a red light at Thorne and through Donny and out towards A1 through Balby. I turned South down A1 and fire engine went straight on towards Conisborough. Anyway, I got home in record time and so early that our old lady thought I must have been sacked.
Oh you two don’t half make me laugh and on this occasion brought back memories of Burton upon Stather.

Watching you picking up the conkers reminded me of when I was 14 years old and I went to Germany with my mother.
We stayed with a family and they took us to different places and one of them was where there were loads of big Pine cones.
I picked up loads of them in a bag and in my pocket and we got back to their house.
I started to sort them out and then realized they had loads of earwigs in them.😳😳
So the lot went straight into the bin. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We went to 'Bad Harzburg' which is near Hannover. (we actually stayed in Peine).
but Bad Harzburg is a really beautiful place if you visit in the summertime.

Yeah - steep them in vinegar to harden them. You also put them in the oven - if you're going to eat them 😀 Seriously, you can eat them. They are beautiful - they always look like they've been expertly polished when they first come out.

so thanks, now I know where Wetherspoons is in Scunny. Did not know the Blue Bell pub had closed down... Been away from home for 20 years, and Scunny High Street looks like a lot of places are closing down. Woolworths has gone it seems, and a couple of other places I knew so well when I lived there.

You should have bought some haslet when you were in that deli. When I lived in Cambridgeshire we had a local butcher who made haslet. It’s delicious.

I enjoy going to places that some people might think why? Went to Cannon Hall Farm this year and stayed at the Holiday Inn at Wakefield. The pubs were rocking during the day. Scunthorpe looks like my type of place. Don’t know if you have videos of Wakefield. Keep up the good work.

Had a couple of tasty away visits to Glanford Park with Hull City in the 1990s, you can't beat derby days, Oakwell is a good away too, any Yorkshire side as long as they aren't from the steel city ! 😂

New York's Central Park is based on Birkenhead park (the first park in the world). You can visit from your place in about and hour and a half, it's grim as 'eck, might make a good video though? Oh, and you can stealth camp at Moreton, Thurstaston or Wallasey for cool views?

me and a few mates plus my grown up daughter went to and stayed over in Scunny after a Sunderland game a few years ago. I try really hard not to slag places off as everywhere has some decent places and everywhere has some great people. It was really hard to big up Scunny though. We like a decent real ale and the options seemed to stop at the spoons which when you are there all day is a bit of an issue. My daugher decided that as there was no real ale that we should play a game. So whenever we went into a new pub we asked the barman or barmaid a very simple question. 'What would Jesus drink'? We then ordered that. It turned into a messy night.
