Fuel cards are off | Sunday Rant | Trucking Answers

  • The sad Sunday Rant deals with yet another company leaving drivers stranded with fuel cards off. Sunset Logistics closed down with no notice to drivers. Owned by a Gainey. Remember them? Gainey Transportation went bankrupt over a decade ago. So, working here was always a risk. Now these 90 drivers may not get their final paycheck. It is disgusting that the employees were not given any notice. Drivers are supposed to take their trucks to the nearest Ryder shop. How do you get home? I would drive the truck back to my car if I could. Let the Gainey boys figure it out. A bond should be required for trucking companies.

Attention new drivers the company that hired you is not your new family like they may have told you. Every aspect of their existence is to make money without any thought of you. Work for them in that capacity and if something better comes along grab it always take care of numero uno. I'm not saying be aggressive or a complete A'hole. just know what you want out of trucking and direct yourself in that direction.

When a company tells me we're like family it's a red flag. I also don't like when companies say "around here we call u by your name not a number."
      Number 1, I don't care because I'm not a sensitive little B**ch.
Number 2, I'd rather u call me by a number because we're both using each other so don't act like u give a flying **** about me without even knowing me.
Number 3, as long as your paying me great money i don't care what u call me.
Oh, and number 4, I have zero interest in talking to the owner of the company. Idc. Call me by my number pay me what I'm suppose to make and leave me the f*** alone. Lol. Maybe im built different i just don't like fake s**t

And while the trucking company no longer exists. You still do. And in the event of an accident, you will get sued.
I say the second that you no longer have a job. You are no longer responsible for the vehicle.
I always hear the word "abandonment" ( Big Fancy Scary word). But there again. Save that message. Because who abandoned who now? And the person who put stuff on DAC's just got canned too. It's also questionable to put stuff on a DAC after the closing fact.
But really. Has anyone ever gotten their last paycheck in this situation? Usually they don't.

Do you mean “ Sunrise Transportation “? I took a CRACKHound bus from Philly to South Bend, Indiana, owned by Gainey, I was wondering what happened to them? Anyway, went to their orientation, I didn’t like anything that they were telling us, I think this was in 1997, unsure. But, about 6 of us left over the weekend, there was a dude there that lived in Wellsboro, Pa, on the way home to Philly, I rented a car and went home, dropping him off there, he drove most of the way, he was a good dude. Got back home around Easter time, that’s it. Never heard anything from them, I just left, and that was it, so glad I did!

I've said this many times before. I tell new drivers. Save $1000-$1500 ASAP! FOR OH SH.. ! $500 is just not enough. And in case something happens to loved ones back home. You need enough $ to get on a plane and get home in an emergency!

  • @charlescontreras4135
    @charlescontreras4135 7 месяцев назад +4

$500? I'd say at least $1000-$2000, take a Greyhound bus home, and you'll still have some cash on hand for meals during the trip home. To anyone who's thinking about going into trucking, the more money that you have to your name the better. If I end up going back into it again, I'll do it knowing that I'll have at least $15,000 in my bank account, if not more. I learned that lesson years ago when I joined up with C R England. Back then the recruiter said that about $500 would be enough to get by on until those first paychecks started coming in. My point is, always have a plan B, travel light, and have the financial resources to get yourself home.

The problem is you have to drop off the truck whatever place and the time they told you otherwise they will report it to state police and within minutes 20 cops chasing the truck.
Taking truck to your home or to your car works only if you’re planning to terminate employment in your own terms.

I’m about to run out of sign on bonus. it seems there are few companies out there where people are not getting miles, and the crazy thing about it they own National, Beef, and the loads are hardly ever ready for proximately 34 hours SMH

@@vintagethrifter2114 I had right turn recruiter tell me that I’m going to make at least 2800 miles a week and even on their ad they say drivers are making 80,000 a year. But the owner even said on one of the videos that many people are making late payments on their house and yes, I still work here for a little longer but I have found a place or two that has better miles and better pay. All companies that go to the beef plant. Normally had to wait for a very long time. A lot of times I weigh about 32 to 33 hours before the load is ready.

Regulate the carriers, and not the drivers, is what FMCSA needs to be doing and not taking lobby monies from ATA. Agree 100% a bond regulation needs to be in place so drivers are not stranded with shut off fuel cards.

I'd drive as far towards my home terminal as that last bit of fuel would get me to a town with a rental car available. I'd park my truck legally, (loaded or empty) and put my personal belongings into my rental car and drive back to my terminal and personal car. No hard feelings and nothing personal. I know my company would put me on a Greyhound bus with no concern for my personal belongings that I have to leave behind. They've done it before and I'll never let them do it again. Unfortunately the car rental will cost some money but knowing the inconvenience to the company is plenty reimbursement.
