  • Smith Transport in Roaring Spring, PA is up in the spotlight this week. Many astute viewers have written to me to have a Smith Transport review and to talk about the Smith Transport Equipment. You need one year of experience at Smith Transport. To drive for Smith Transport you also need a good driving record and to live basically east of I-35 without Florida. Did you know Smith Transport Tanker Division also exists? They do and if you live in West Virginia or Pennsylvania you call see about that. Orientation is paid with your own room at Smith Transport. Professionals do not share a hotel room. The Smith Transport equipment is excellent and everyone wants a long nosed Pete. They do not guarantee choice of truck but if you want a certain truck they will put you on a waiting list for it. They have different choices of hometime so call them to see if it suits you. At Smith Transport or anywhere, be sure to ask them questions to get the answers you want. Find a place you like and stay there. The driver treatment at Smith Transport is what amazed me. Everyone who wrote to me about them mentioned how good they were being treated. That is not something that I can say about all places. Is Smith Transport a good fit for you? Maybe. They are certainly worth a call if you are looking to make a change and have at least 1 year of experience.

    Roaring springs pa near altoona. Terminal in Atlanta and Indiana! Great place. By the way they also have regional accounts in the north east and Southeast with different pay schemes and if u live right there a shorthaul account. There are many dedicated accounts but they are small and not pushed like Walmart is. So essentially u have to know them to get on them. They'll fly u to orientation like the professional u r. I whole heartedly recommend this company.

    Ugh... I've had a rough month with Smith. They gave me an older truck to start with so 3 months in the engine blows up. I had to repo a truck that had APU and air pressure issues, then while waiting 4 days for that truck at a terminal I had to repo yet another truck but the interior smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and I had to drive it for 6+ hours and sleep in it for a bit. I couldn't stop coughing. I should be getting my 2nd truck back today, but most of my belongings are still in my first truck.

    Hold on a run right now especially around Atlanta. And had a couple of thoughts today. What do you think about these truck stops that are mostly reserved parking spaces? In those few spaces that are free are usually in extremely bad positions or actually require you to back in off the wrong side of the truck? Do you think that's just a price gouge or is that something intentional. What do you think about those truck stops now that only have reserved parking?

    Hey guys I just want to put this out there this is not the company to come too if you're not interested in running hard. Like we don't do the whole recap thing here too often, most weeks they want you to run hard 10 hours 11 hours every day and do a 34 on the weekend or something. you're going to get loads at 7 at night that are seven hundred miles and need to be delivered by 7 a.m. the day after tomorrow. that means you need to put down at least an hour to two hours that night and then run 650 miles or more that next day. It's not impossible it's easy the trucks run 68 miles an hourthey don't care what road you take to get there if their toes or not told as long as you get there on time. now there will be some times when it's not physically possible but it is damn sure possible to do 680 miles in one day. they've had a bunch of guys here lately joining that are too lazy and think that they can refuse loads here. Smith transport is forced dispatch. yeah that doesn't mean they won't accommodate you if there's a legitimate issue that you have and it doesn't mean they're going to force you into New York City but everywhere else that we run they expect you to go that means Maine that means Florida that means Texas and Iowa. if you can't run 10 hours a day can you really should not consider coming to Smith unless you're going to do a regional or dedicated account

      What you one of the drivers who only worked 6 hour a day maybe you need to get your head out if your behind and work as expected instead if sitting in the drivers lounge if your truck is in the shop maybe get a loaner and run local till yours us fixed talking crap and if you keep telling your dm you dont wanna go to certain places and others do go to all areas and are willing to run the runs others do t want yes you can call it that a dm favors one driver over the driver whi complains oh I dont wanba go to. New England or NYC for example of course you wont get Miles so why bother with arguing with a driver about s load they most likely not gonna due anyway tests what you call non forced dispatch maybe you need to work for a company who forces the load on you stop complaining and work for as expected from you

    • @truckingjourneys
      @truckingjourneys 4 года назад +3

      Correction 65 cents per mile on the weekdays and 70 come on the weekends. The favoritism you speak of Sir is them simply giving loadsthat have the most miles to people who are more reliable because they are not allowed to have more than five service failures for the Walmart account per month without being fined heavily. There were a lot of people in my time on the Walmartwho were home every night in chose the only run one load or not work on the the weekends. the weekends are where you make all your money because you were getting 70 cents per mile. the easiest way to make money on the Walmart account is to always run two loads no matter what if you have the time do it. If they have a load they will give it to you if you ask. You have to be proactive they're not just going to give you a load. when you're halfway done with your first load and you know when you'll be back to the DC you're supposed to call them and say this is when I'll be back and I'll have this many hours what loads do you have that you can give me. they're not just going to hand it to you on a silver platter you actually have to work. And God help you if you're one of those people that only takes one load everyday cuz they just started firing those kind of people. The Walmart account is extremely high demanding because of the amount of stops each load has and the necessity for on-time delivery every time. if you are late for any reason that your fault they are not going to give you the good loads. And that's your fault for being late. You have to show them thatthey can trust you to get every load there on time if they call you for a favor do them the favor if you can. You can't just act like an entitled asshole and expect them to give you everything. I'm 24 and I was home at Walmart account for 3 months and I have pay stubs I made over $1,500 every week one week I made over$1,900. so those local guys who sat there and complained because they only got the low mile loads but they only wanted to take one load because they had a family they wanted to go home to that's your problem. the only way to make money on the Walmart account is to do at least two loads every day if possible. And yes you should absolutely be working on the The Weeknd. if you want two days off take to weekdays off because The Weeknd pays more. That's obvious

    I worked there back in the middle 90's. At that time, they paid .13 per mile for deadhead. And Barry Smith's daughter was in charge of benefits. She was a real peach. I lived in New Jersey then, & she told me they didn't have enough drivers in NJ for them to bother taking out NJ income tax. I told her thank you & hung up. I was then fired for hanging up on the owner's daughter. If she is still there, I'd recommend against it.

    They sound like a good outfit. You bagged all over k&b and they: Fly you out to orientation, get you your own hotel room with free HOT breakfast, free lunch, 2 days of orientation and you get a $1,000 for orientation. They pay minimum 2500 miles at .50 or $1,250 a week for 6 months experience and more for experienced drivers. They pay $100 for each level of inspection so up to $300. How they compare on other things like trucks and home time are different fro. Smith but I'm all about the dollars. In a lot of reviews I read that they were a-holes but they must have changed something because I haven't, as of yet, experienced that. I went with a standard trans and the truck is speed limited at 65. If you want a brand new cascadia automatic it is 62/65. They have fridges in the trucks but the new cascadia's don't have cruise control when your headlights are on and they do mostly night driving. THEY HAVE NO CAMERA'S ON THE TRUCKS. I think they should be bumped from the crap company list and given another look. They seem like a viable option for guys willing to be out for 2 plus weeks at a time. I read a bunch of bad reviews and was worried about choosing them but so far they seem fair at the very least. First time the recruiter didn't lie to me. They were very upfront about the program at k&b.
