- At one point I should have stopped. I do not learn. Today we try and see if a full build with Box Navys and Cherry Mx Blues can still be clicky while thocky. God help us all.

A recommendation for making clicky switches sound good: get a hollow/big case so that it resonates kinda like how a guitar would. Just look at alps, space invaders, buckling springs, etc. All of those had big ass cases that made the switches sound big.

@@thexenian to be fair, not everyone knows about the other side of mks. I'm a vintage guy myself and I thought that all korean type builds were the same and that all modern cherry mx clone switches are the same until I decided to go more in depth and started to appreciate these subtle but meaningful differences. Most people haven't tried old boards so they really haven't expanded their palette.
Not just the size but the material. Metal doesn’t sound as good with click bars IMO, I prefer plastic. Also I use box jades, so they’re extremely tactile. My fingers hurt for a few days when I first used them.
This! Something like rama u80-a, or ca66, or even ncr80 for budget option is really good for clicky switches, especially with tall caps such as SA or MT3 is gonna make it sounds awesome. I've seen clickiez switch with typical custom korean very tight alu case and cherry caps sounds really thin and sad.

Yes, I'm one of those clicky switch lovers. I'm old school and learned to touch-type on an ancient Model M buckling spring, so I prefer having the click as extra feedback when typing. I switched to a 105 key WASD v2 with cherry greens. Wasn't quite happy with those switches as they were just a tad too stiff and the click was inconsistent. On the other hand, MX blues were way too soft for me, being used to the Model M's notoriously stiff keys. My most recent build is a GMMK TKL v1 with dev/tty PBT keycaps. It uses Kailh box navies for the modifiers/spacebar and pale blues for the remaining switches. The heavy and large keycaps give it a nice thocky click without being too annoying or loud.
Rather impressed with the sound of this one! Also definitely a fan of the Kailh boxes, that's my personal favorite clicky switch so far.
I remember seeing someone posting there thoccy clickies a couple months back and thinking:

I find that if you want a deeper sound out of a clicky board, you shouldn't mute it too much. Then all you're left with is the sound of the click bar. Ideally you wanna get a board/plate combo that's quite resonant/deep and that way the bottom out sound will complement the click sound
The combo I'm making now is qk65 with pc plate (no silicone), and zeal clickies... 👌🙌
I always feel weird whenever i hear click bar switches and go, “oh yeah that sounds clean” only for everyone else to complain about how bad they sound.
I have the box whites, and I swapped the top housing from mute box jades, and it lowers the pitch of the click. I also use less foam because I don't want to isolate the sound of the click, and I want the sound of the key bottom out to resonate more. Results are good!
here's an idea: use Box Mute Jades, literally the same as Jades but with a silicone tab to silence the clicker with all the same tactility intact.

I use box jades sometimes when i want to feel something. Its in a practice 65 from cannonkeys which allows that click sound off unbound by silly ideas of enclosed cases.

My favorite switch is silent switches. The best silent switches are Gazzew Boba U4 and Aliaz silent switches.
I will say, a plastic chassis is really good for BOX clickies. I prefer it to metal cases at this point. My daily driver is a C2 with box jades, SA keycaps, PE foam, tape, and case foam. Shoobs’ board sounds nice but this one is even deeper sounding.

Clicky switches are my personal favorite, however I will say that a) any kind of click jacket switch is earrape, and b) good clicky switches (alps, beam springs, box switches, zeal clickiez, etc) really require a good open case to bring their sound to the fullest potential. Much like a guitar, a good resonance chamber is needed.
