    Wow, I can see why the Kailh box navy switches are popular. Crisp clicks, and a deep bassy undertone that combos really well.

      I love BOX Navies, but I wouldn't call them "deep and bassy." It's slightly lower pitched than click jacket switches (e.g. MX Blue) + other clickbar switches with thinner clickbars (e.g. BOX White), but compared to stuff like Clickiez (click leaf) and Alps click leaf switches (e.g. SKCM Blue & SKCM Amber), BOX Navies are noticeably higher pitched.

Not just because it gives so much detailed information about clicky switches, but because of the way the sound is really focused on the sound of the keys. I don’t know why, but it helps me sleep. White Owl, Arctic Fox, Jade, Sage were the standouts for me.
    Gaterons were mostly annoying, with nothing but click itself.
    Some light switches got real springy aftertaste.
    Not an expert definitely, but I do like clicky feel and sound a lot more than an average enthusiast. And dare I say, after having some regular clickies, getting tired of them and deciding to move to less "ambiently present" tactiles, those switches got me excited to try clickies out again.

    • @Lishtenbird
      @Lishtenbird 2 года назад +1

      Under keycaps, White Owls actually sound springier. Is that because of the aluminum case? Will they behave differently in plastic?
      And Navy become more notable, with a deeper sound. Jade become pongier. Greetech just, uh. And Arctic Fox is like a fox clacking its claws across arctic ice... probably.

    • @ClickandThock
      @ClickandThock  2 года назад +1

      Hey, I'm a big Jade enthusiast but, yeah. • @Lishtenbird
      @Lishtenbird 2 года назад +3

      I've been trying to compile a list of those, and yes - very quickly it became a complete mess with all sort of sources: first-party promo materials, factory PDFs, scavenged third-party shop graphs, third-party review sites, people sharing plotly graphs... It's horrible. And yet sound alone can't explain you how a tactile/clicky switch will feel, so you need them.

    • @Lishtenbird
      @Lishtenbird 2 года назад

      Though maybe ThereminGoat's force curve repository on GitHub could be one of the better consistent sources, there's a fair amount of switches there. Well, at the very least for personal use, unsure if they'll be up for collaborations with other creators.

    • @feelshowdy
      @feelshowdy 4 месяца назад

      Agree. The type of mechanism to produce the click (e.g. click jacket, click bar, click leaf) would accompany these force curves nicely as well. I can tell by sound which switch has which mechanism, but newcomers might struggle to tell them apart.

    Kailh really does make a lot of clicky switches. Hopefully they will start making some click leaf ones as well eventually. Would be good with some options for clickiez, which are really good, but having some less tactile options would be really nice.

      not gonna happen, zeal trademarked it.

    • @Imaltont
      @Imaltont 2 года назад +1

      @@laffeybunn8557 Zeal probably trademarked the name, and they got a patent for the 3-in-1 thing where it could be clicky, tactile and linear in one design afaik. Click leaf, both with cherry stem and without, are much older than zeal, so that shouldn't really stop anyone from making more clicky or tactile click leaf switches because of prior art. Just can't have that little notch that lets you switch between the modes as easily or whatever part of it the patent covers.

    • @laffeybunn8557
      @laffeybunn8557 2 года назад +2

      @@Imaltont > Click leaf, both with cherry stem and without, are much older than zeal
      yes they litterally bought the moulds for alps switches. therefore they own them. therefore they trademarked them as their own after they made a modified version of them.
      the reason clickiez are so expensive is to soak the cost of the moulds + zeal tax

    • @Imaltont
      @Imaltont 2 года назад +2

      @@laffeybunn8557 Others have produced click leaf switches before too, such as pro world and Matias. I don't see how that would stop anyone from making more click leaf switches, it is just the specific kind that Zeal patented. The reason it is expensive is probably more zeal + manufacturing of a very niche product. It is also the only click leaf with cherry stem in current production, so can get some extra price in exclusivity there. Matias switches are way cheaper, but without the compatability, real alps are much more expensive.
      I looked up their trademarks. They have trademarked the name "clickiez". They have patented "multi-mode mechanical keyboard switch", which very clearly states that it is the moving the click leaf around part that is exclusive to them. There is nothing I can find any documentation of that suggests no one else can make click leaf switches, they just can't call them "clickiez" and they can't have a "3-in-1" design similar to that of zeal. A fixed position/one position click leaf that is either clicky or only tactile, but not possible to do both in the same switch should not be a problem.

    Great video! I recently built my first custom keyboard with a Zuoya GMK67 and some Ajazz Banana switches. It's been great but I've been craving some clicky switches on the cheap and this is really helping me narrow it down. So far I like the sound of the Kailh BOX White V2's, how is the tactility? I personally prefer sharp and highly tactile feedback but I'm not entirely sure if those will deliver.

    Which one is best for gaming and another one for typing in general?

    • @ClickandThock
      @ClickandThock  2 года назад +2

      For gaming I would go with a light one with short travel, like the Kailh Speed Bronze. Great switch. For typing you could take the same one, but that depend of your preference. It’s not a very tactile switch. My new go to would be the BOX White V2. Could be a great choice for gaming to. But if you really want something more heavy and tactile for typing, I would go with Kailh White Owl, but not sure it would be great for gaming due to the weight…

    Just by closing my eyes and using only my ears, the Kailh Box Navy and Kailh Box Jade sounded the best. Tha Zeal Clickies were amazing sounding too, wish they were not 40g tho.

    • @Nickrii
      @Nickrii 2 года назад +2

      Don't get confused with their 40g rating which just represents the bottom-out force, though. These are still pretty heavy with an actuation point at around 65 to 70g! I run them daily and I wouldn't call them "light". To me, these switches feel heavier than Kailh Box Pinks and are just slightly less intimidating than Kailh Box Navy. There's also the Clickiez 75g version but that's something I only use with modifiers (perfect for a clicky spacebar IMHO).

      hum not sure to understand.. If your keycaps are mx compatible, they will fit on all of these switches and any regular switches! Hope it help...
