You can't escape the 40s gang. We have your number. And that number is on a layer.
shoobs vids were one of the most helpfull for me when I was starting off and now here I am with 900 less dollars.
what builds have you done so far?
$3000 less because of shoobs hes responsible for all of our wallets being empty
He was for me too but I ENVY your wallet... I think I'm down close to 3G or so in the last 6 months or so... 😳🤣😭
@@ioannis011 i feel that
1300 for me
Even if your walltet and stomach is empty, you still have your keyboard. That is the most important thing
this is true
You still have your keyboard? I'm 50% through eating my bobas
Honestly, your “best budget keyboard” vid you posted was the thing that helped start this pocket hole burning hobby of mine! Appreciate it good sir!!!
you definitely inspired me to start this hobby and I have no regrets lol
I would like to apologize
@@ShoobsTube nah man u all good I just don't have any money now but money comes and go keebs are forever
@@zuki9537 true very true
A couple years into the hobby and the expensiveness of my tastes has certainly grown much faster than the actual speed of my typing.
By no means did you're channel get me into this cursed hobby (for that I only have myself to blame), but I have to say it's crazy seeing how much you've grown in the last year and a half. I remember seeing your Dirty pandas video when you were at like 400 subs and its just skyrocketed from there. Wishing all the best to you and your channel, it's only just beginning!
Embrace the clicky. Feel the power flow through you, hear the lamentations of your co-workers.
They are the most satisfying to type on by far!
if you daily blue bombs you are the god of clickies
If you don’t like someone use your clickies
Truely another masterpiece
another great jordan comment
He forgot the 40% split ortholinear curved ergonomics keyboard, THE DACTYL MANUFORM. Shoobs, if you see this, pls buy one lol. Suffer = Good.
But the butter stick
I used to be a "nobody needs a numpad" guy till I got a job that needs a numpad and now I wish there was more of a community for custom full size
Subscribed! I like how you are rather authentic and honest and not annoying unlike some other keyboard youtubers (you know who)
While glarses was my first contact with the hobby, you’re the one who got me invested, love the vids
I use an Ortholinear at work. It's perfect for my job as IT help desk because it gives the illusion I know what I'm doing.
Get some blank keycaps on that bad boy, instant promotion to CTO.
@@madduckuk I tried GMK Pixel and ummm I am not a touch typist at all... It's so bad that I can't even do it for the lulz
I went into the hobby thinking: A cheap board with mid range switches and cool looking keycaps would be good enough.
1.5 year/ later: 1. I can't stand scratchy switches. I thought I would get away by getting pre lubbed switched. The answer is: You don't.
2. If it's not GMK, it's probably bad legends and bad sound. Drives me mad looking at inconsistent text width.
3. Yes, the board itself is very important. I thought that switches and caps are like 99% of the feel. Not true :/
4. My wallet hates me.
On 2: Akko's manufacturer has fantastic legends, as does EPBT. GMK, especially sets with larger order #'s might be misaligned.
Also, GMK is the only fab I have consistently recieved a spacebar that is warped like a banana.
@@thejusmar Akko has some cool novelties. But then again, the text can look weird at times. Personally I don't like the roundish caps and if it's dye sub, I'm out as well. I would agree to say that you would have to look on a set per set basis. Same goes for Tao, they have great stuff as well.
But with GMK I can rely on a consistent quality and luckely I did not have to deal with banana space bar so far. But they have their own bs going on. GMK packaging is terrible. I can buy caps that are 1/5 of the price and they come with better packaging. And don't get me even started on Group Buys. I usually go for the pre-orders, because my god, who want to wait for a product for 1.5 years or longer.
you need to be in the hobby longer
@@olivertrees What do you mean?
Do not support akko, they blatantly clone other keybored products
Great Video Shoobs I Just Ordered My! New! Thocky! Corsair K95 RGB PLATINUM XT RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX RGB Blue. Thank you for your help!
one quick tip for new ppl like me.. a gasket mounted hotswap w a pom plate is likely to pop the corner keys out of the socksts
Me when I realize that Shoobs didn't talk without a fucking script : 0 _ 0
this is shoobs talks with a 2000 word script
6:35 another reason why people choose soldered is because of the plateless and half plate options in some keyboards (plateless hotswap is kinda sus, pe foam does help the switches to stay in place but not everyone likes pe foam)
Ortholinear 40% keyboards with clicky switches are the best kind of keyboards you just haven't reached that point of enlightenment yet. They are also the easiest to build if you don't count customizing the firmware as part of the build process. But a custom firmware created to suit an individual's unique workflow is what makes a keyboard truly custom.
""Shoobs Personal Favorites - Tactiles: Cherry MX Browns"
Glarses would be ashamed.
Best ending, love the humour, it's all fluid. And I bought my first keeb a week ago, love your work
Its a good day when Shoobs uploads
The "resistance" guide:
You will want the stiffest, the loudest pitched and the MOST tactile offering with The Resistance Guide(trademark in progress).
-Get a tray mounted case with a brass plate
-Ignore dampening
-DO NOT mod stabs (okay if you want it to be stable, you may balance the wires)
-Pick BOX Navies, perfect for the job (unironically, this is just the switch most frowned upon despite being the second best in the MX market)
-Get the thinnest keycaps possible to bring out the sound (aesthetics don't matter, get whatever you want)
If you follow the steps and resist the meta, we can finally remind people that this is ALL JUST PREFERENCE.
Also make sure the mounting points are not screwed in tightly so it rattles, extra important.
@@Archurus well, I was about to say "let's not go THAT far", but makes sense as it may be someone else's genuine preference and shouldn't be frowned upon. Great idea! Welcome to the resistance.
@@Archurus oh and I made this an actual discord server. Just reply to this if you're interested.
nope, still buying box Jades and boba u4's (for another build) or something similar. that oldschool 80's click (like a model m) is what got me into mechanicals anyway
oh no you didn't list cherry mx browns under your personal favorites lmao!
First 2 minutes of the video is exactly what I needed to finish my build thx so much
Im on the full board side, need the numpad for work. Took a while to find something useful that wouldnt cost too much, ended up with SK108 board (from ali), and im pretty happy with it. But yeah, its really tough to find anything if you want to build a full sized one, beware
96%?
Thank you for this interesting video about this topic. I hope you received as much pleasure making a video about this content as your viewers did consuming the video about this subject that you made a video about. I wish you continued success on your endeavors.
The outro song is Goodbye Sengen, cover by Atashi
If only I could get my hands on a set of Zakus. I cry
finally shoobs being useful KEK
lol thanks bro i was just about to order a keychron barebone for my first build ty for the help. Now time to get into debt cause shipping to my country is insane
Shout out to you for much more than memes. Your Z key has helped me tremendously when searching for switch sound profiles and for that I thank you.
I may not always need a numpad, but I still like having it and refuse to give it up, along with a full nav cluster. I also like clickies. That by itself immediately ejects me from the rabbit hole by sheer force of dividing by zero because apparently nobody in this hobby can comprehend such a combination of preferences... I still keep jumping back in though... Been doing so since 2014...
Akko has good kits for full size and 1800, so does KBDfans. Box Jades, whites, and navys are all great clicky switches, and kailh clickies are usually good in general
do be warned that box switches can’t use most 3rd party springs tho
@@kav9533 I've had Box clicky switches before, and they're leagues better than standard blue switches with click jackets. But they do sound a bit one-note, and I find buckling springs and Alps-derivatives more satisfying overall. I'm hoping that Clickiez really raise the bar for MX-type clicky switches.
@@Boyetto-san ohhh yeah buckling springs sound amazing i really wanna get a mini M to try them lol
you can just buy a numpad 🤦, there's quite a few custom numpad options, im a fan of the kbdpad mark II personally
@@jcutfiend My particular desk setup and routines makes a separate numpad not exactly the best solution for me. But yes, of course that's a possible solution for others.
Honestly, the most confusing part to the whole thing was shopping. How do I find a case and PCB and make sure they fit together? I always end up looking at kits and just adding switches stabs and keycaps to it.
Also quick side note... thoughts on the drop exclusive idobao id80 blackout?
Late response but generally the id80 is outclassed by similar priced boards such as the keychron q1
@@d2sno yeah i thought so too until I saw this on drop, it's got a completely different case and a nice brass weight and just looks like a completely different board but no reviews so...
I can literally loop this video just for chills and fun 😂
im too addicted to buying extras keycaps where i dont even have a custom board yet.. wtf
HA HAA jokes on you buddy, Ive bought my last ever board 2 months ago, which all my parts ready and waiting. I'm gonna be selling the rest once that board comes in later this year. ive got one of each of the % you have listed + a numpad. My journey is nearly complete. All my final boards are Solder. 2 of my hotswaps are tester boards :P
All seriousness though, Don't forget about the Switch Films as some switches need them. Trybosis 3204 is also pretty good. Dielectric Grease is another alternative to stab wires. Stab pads and washers (because some don't include them) Switch openers and Lubing stations. Switch holder for ease of lubing switches and a decent paint brush. Then Also maybe need to Invest in a coiled cable.
Then later you start to dive into artisans and proper keyboard cases. Then display case..................
I have planned further in what kbs to get compared to my homework planning for tomorrow
wasnt scuffed at all. good guide
10:15 since he didn’t list a clicky switch:
- Kailh BOX Clickbar switches(Pink, Jade, or Navy)
- ZealPC Clickiez
5 years in the hobby and still watched the whole video lol nicely done as always
Great video Shoobs!
He didn’t mention north facing interference and 3-pin and 5-pin switches, I think they’re important for beginners just to know about
over 4k in the credit debt thanks Shoobs, my Frog TKL sounds nice by the way
when shoobs says to stay away from ortholinears while i have 3 in front of me right now
Shoobs quickly becoming one of my favorite vtubers
nothing beats waking up to a shoobs upload
Thank you for the based content Shoobs, hope you're feeling better and much love 🥰
If you get KAT keycaps, they're pbt but super soft, not rough like most PBT and not slick like ABS
One big thing with soldered PCBs is that they allow you to run those sweet half-plates.
Edit: oh hey Shoobs, you should note that the QK65 comes with stabilizers in the kit! Any noobs out there that ordered it won’t need to order stabilizers.
I just went to Taobao and was completely lost. LOL
I'm a casual enthusiast my only keyboard is RK 87 and it actually feels good to me but when you haven't felt anything that's high quality it's hard to know what I'm actually missing out on. I am planning on building one but can only put a few hundred in it.
Enthusiast keyboard, audio, coffee, and photography enjoyers are all birds of the same feather in my book.
I need a numpad because I play a lot of roguelikes and I use emdashes in my writing. The search for a full size or 96% is a struggle.
Great content
Hehe, ffs Shoobs your videos are great. You may not have gotten me into this but you do inspire my degeneracy builds. Many thanks for the content and hope to see you grow. Thanks!
Shoobs soldering guide using that really ubiquitous 5v 1a $5 soldering iron? I wanna see you solder diodes and hot-swap sockets and show me how to not be scuffed. (assuming you aren't)
letss goo new video
Durock T1's have actually been more expensive then Boba U4T's for a while now over here in West coast US.

Mechanical Keyboards In A Nutshell: Once you start, you can't stop.
Liked before I watched, shoobs the goat
"Welcome to the rabbit hole bitch!, there's no leaving now!...you're stuck in here forever!"...I feel this in my core after picking up my jelly and I'm now looking for an R1 Suit. Jokes aside it's the best money I've spent, and knowing there are only a select few that can experience THOCK like this makes me happy.
hey shoobs, could you do a switch review on the hoshizora and musetsu switches?
Shoobs, I thought epsilon was gonna be one of your personal favorite. I got some of those because of you...maybe I will try get zakus next time.
Regarding mx brown....does it matter which kind? (Hyperglide, regular mx brown..etc) are gateron cap v2 gold brown comparable or better than mx brown I'm your opinion? I love my u4t but willing to try other tactiles if they are good. Thank you.
For anyone that cares about full size keyboards that might see my comment... I love my ducky. Highly recommend it and the dedicated calculator key makes having a num pad logical.
There are several good full size options. I wouldn't even consider getting anything smaller for my main keyboard, maybe a 95%, but, for most people, the idea that a full takes up too much space on a desk is overstated.
Someone needs to summon glarses for the sin of shoobs including mx browns as a personal favorite on his switch recommendation sheet
Tbh thx u for bringing me to this hobby istg i wont get addicted
I've probably built over 30 keyboards but still decided to watch this video, because why not..
Nice vid i already know this but its still a nice vid
You fargot about FOAM as essential part too!
soo good keep it up
Shoobs upload. PogU
I started out with a prebuilt TKL with blues, thinking it was the coolest thing I owned. When I first typed on a custom 60% I knew I was hooked. I spent a ton of money building boards for myself, but then I realized that I can do commissioned builds. I get to have fun while influencing others into the hobby. There are some things that I will be frugal about, like buying GMK sets and going into really exclusive GB's. Solely for the fact that I hate waiting.
I'm still trying to find a reasonable way to make black cherry pies. You have done terrible things to me, and I love you for it.
40 split ortho. Levinson let's split. The enlightened lands
Must also have Pom keycaps and topre switches
Lmfao, i died when you said "us mouth breathers" Welp i at least resonate with someone in the mechnical keeb hobby.
Shoobs, you mentioned some full size exist they're just not common, but what's actually out there? All I've managed to find is the Keychron Q6 and that's not even launched yet.
I've seen some 96% on Amazon from Womier/Gamakay and I think Akko but they're the acrylic super RGB style ones. Not sure about any non acrylic case ones
if youre willing to pay big bucks the Dino104 is in gb soon
Not a beginner but i watched the whole video cause i knew shoobs would make it cursed
@Shoobs pls do another linear switch round up with best older switches and lots of new switches (pls review quartz r2!!!!!)
Yo Shoobs what do you think about lubing switches wiht krytoxGPL105 instead of 205g0 because here in Poland there is so hard to get 205g0. I can say its almost impossible. The only way to get it is buy it aboard but then i will pay around 50$
Yeah, you'll take my numpad from my cold, dead fingers. I'll mod a keyboard before I give up the numpad.
Also, Box Navies are the bomb.
Clicky all the way NO lube.
I just made a new board and I need the comments to rate this board it’s a kbd67 lite with pe foam hippo switches lubed with 205g0 and the stabs are lubed with 205g0 and the plate is pc and the keycaps are Gmk striker
13:12 don't forget the shipping ;)
Yo shoobs, you forgot to link the outro music in the description. I need to know
"Lubed switches are the backbone of a custom keyboard" Back in the day the whole point was to make something original, but go off.
"dont choose clicky"
Me : *sad clicky alps noises*
Me who already has multiple custom keyboards, watching this: ah yes, very interesting
I choose solder for rock solid mod keys
never seen this guy in my life but when i mouse over the video the png blushes harder thats wild
Who's goodbye sengen cover is that at the outro?
TTC Bluish White Silent switches. Tactiles. Cheap and sound much better than Bobas or Pandas. Have yet to find a switch that sounds better than these do. The only issue is the ping and very slight scratchyness, which can easily be removed by lubing, but at the same time you lose some of the unbelievably satisfying travel bump (i still nut every time i type)
Not sure if shoobs listing the Cherry MX Browns among his favorites is a him trolling or his honest opinion. I have been exposed to too many "MX BROWN BAD LUL" jokes in my lifetime.
He likes light tactiles
Solder fumes KEKW
so verdict dropping a grand seems beginner friendly ;D
Me just a few days ago: That thock QK75 costs like 800 bucks aka 1/4 of my salary, and that's the 'budget' option. And it still needs keycaps and switches and lube.
Today: Ah. Sounds abt right, yep. Probably should get a spare set of tactiles too.
