Ironically enough I think the biggest strive in switch mechanisms have been in mostly Clicky switches. From Clickbar to Spring Snap to whatever the heck Clickiez have in them. People meme on these things but man, the design work put to make a unique sounding click on these things is actually impressive.
You mean they are reinventing the wheel, to create designs that used to exist in cherry MX compatible housings. but yes Clicky switches are in general the most competitive market because of how many possibilities there are to create unique sounds and feels, and in general are also both more satisfying and are more tactile than "tactile" switches, which I personally just call Silent Clickies :p My favourite keyboard is my Focus FK-2001, it sounds and feels great cuz I got it new old stock and it's from the 90s, but I don't NOT like tactile switches, my favourite tactile switch is probably one of the better rubber domes (I.E BKE Redux, Scorpius and of course BTC dome with slider) and Alps SKCM Salmon.
ignoring the fact that they are loud, I think it's because of the 'plastic-like' sound of the blue switches that makes it feel 'cheap', and also since it's among the mainstream mechanical kb switch, it makes clickies more hated in general. I think clickies deserved to be appreciated more, more on the other clicky switches instead of just the blue switches.
I have board using Box Navies and I love how much deeper sounding than Cherries they are. Of course they are pretty loud and I just use it for the novelty, and I still use a tactile board for daily/work
the funny part is that mx blues actually have a deeper click than box navies. Navies are more than something like box whites, however. If you listen to a switch like ttx gold blue brothers, they have the deepness of the mx blue w/o as much of the rattle. It's really nice.
The animation showing the Kailh BOX Cllicky at 1:37 is incorrect, that only shows the switch actuation mechanism but not the actual click-bar, which was actually left out of it As for clickies, I think the issue why they fell out of favour is they aren't allowed in most work settings, or sometimes even at home when your family inevitably hates you for typing a comment at 2:30am in the morning to reply to a RUclips video (yes, they can hear it even from their own room) Plus the most mainstream clicky switch available now is the Cherry MX design which is god awful because it rattles so much it sounds like people shaking Maracas instead of a single "Click". The thing about the click jacket is that they can be really good (i.e. Aristotles) and people prefer a whole switch instead of buying a stem (Gazzew Phoenix) and another entire switch to sacrifice. They do often sound a lot higher pitched than Alps so it also fell out of favour. BOX design is a revolution but its innovation could not be found on most prebuilts and they came too late. But there being a click-bar-to-spring-weight ratio, and a slight mismatched clicky-sound-to-actuation IMO feels more of a hinderance, but it is an innovation afterall. It too sounds higher pitched than Alps, but it's less plastic-y sounding. The Clickiez is basically bringing an old design into the MX platform, and it does somewhat accomplish what it's set out for. But the Zeal Tax is really hard to swallow.
Newer switches like Kailh Box White V2s don’t deserve to be hated. The older clickies (Cherry Blue) though? Yes, hate them. The OG Kailh Speed Bronzes were Clickbar (not a Box switch either) and felt really interesting. Super fast, snappy, and light for a clicky. Think they have a second version of them out now (Kailh “Super Speed” Bronze).
Fun Fact: White Alps are used in guitar hero controllers on the strumbar. Nowadays guitar controller modders replace the 15+ year old switches with BOX Navy. Another fun fact: Someone tried to use the Zeal clicky switches (75g) instead of BOX Navy's because of the same style (click leaf) but those ended up breaking in a week.
If the click is associated with the tactile event, then they’re cool Click jackets? No, eww Clickbars, click leaves, buckling springs, & beam springs? Yes, good clickies Nice vid
*Clicky for life!* Screw everyone and their ears! Edit: Then again, im using quality clickbar switches, not the pingy trash cherry is peddling. Kailh jades and navies FTW!
If your impression of clickies is MX Blue, they deserve to be hated. Alps switches, Buckling Springs and clickbars on the other hand are not the same beast. In fact, hot take: Cherry MX is literally only good in linear, do not buy the others, do not buy MX clones in tactile or clicky, minor tweaks do not save them. Fixing them requires radically different design. (If you truly like browns you are a niche special snowflake who likes your keyboard less tactile than rubber domes, this is a fact, do not recommend them to normal people)
clicky switches make a click sound
Wow!
Be careful with all that knowledge
The descent into madness at 8:02 and how it all just clicked was fantastic

Click leaf?
It's basically a reintroduction of similar tech that were used in switches like Alps SKCM
You mean they are reinventing the wheel, to create designs that used to exist in cherry MX compatible housings.

There’s also the aristotle-style clicky switches like the TKC blackberries and the Gazzew Phoenix stems
genuinely thought these were click jackets as well - what the fuck are these

04:04 $1.5 USD a switch you mean :p great video! Built a kalam libra with box whites and it was one of my favourite boards
0:45 Akko Ocean Blues actually do not make a click, they are regular tactiles. You can check a few videos for reference
novelkeys just came out with cream clickies who are using a mechanism similar to futaba MA

Box white are my favorote clickies. Tried on a friend's board and i finally understood clickies.

Erm, navies are using the clickbar's too, not click leafs
Box White V2 switches are my go to for clickies
Clickbars are straight up the superior clickies in terms of sound.
I have some kailh speed bronzes on my keeb to hear dem clean clicks
Ehh, clickies are bassier
If the click is associated with the tactile event, then they’re cool
Click jackets? No, eww
Clickbars, click leaves, buckling springs, & beam springs? Yes, good clickies
Nice vid
I love clickies almost as equally as linears and tactiles. Just get some kailh box white v2s and you're good to go.
Box jade enjoyer here - can't wait to try the Zeal Clickies one day!
Please do a vid on that cyberboard with zeal clickiez!
Next upload when? Love these dudes and want to see them return
Chosfox Arctic Fox switches are just clean and pretty
I do enjoy me some Jades from time to time.
I need to get a hold of those new C³EQUALZ blueberries. They might actually feel like good switches compared to whatever the hell Cherry is making.
I love white owls 😌
this video came out after i put mx blues on my ciel60 few hours ago, hmmm coincidence?
Thumbs up simply for the 8 minute mark. I swear to god my co-worker is doing this whenever I'm on the phone with a client.
Box Jade love =]
If you like clicky switches you deserve some click-bar switches~
Yes
A lot of it is just herd mentality to hate on it, I personally quite like the sound of clickies
THICCC click is what it take

Wrong. Rattley ass switches, sound like a grandma walking not a keyboard
Yes, next question please
yes they suck so bad
i cringed during the sound test
first
Bro really picked baby’s first clicky switch for a custom build. Just a waste of a kit, really.

Disabled take
Yes. Yes they do.
it's a missed opportunity to not do this vid with the new nk clickies
