So what are your thoughts on this watch? Was it a good idea for Samsung to ditch TizenOS and move to WearOS?? SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH 4 Classic: mikeobrienmedia.com/Galaxy-Watch-4
I've been using this for 48 hours already (black classic, bluetooth version, 46mm), really nice experience so far as the first smartwatch in my life !!
I ordered the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm wifi only, my first smart watch ever as well. I'm concerned about the negative reviews about it over heating and the battery life sucking.
it is a good cooperation with Samsung. There are some things they could possibly add or change. for example, make the Galaxy Store available on the watch. so you have more options to choose from. I hope spotify gets an update so you can listen offline. on the watch itself. it's a start but there's still a lot that can be done
I got the watch yesterday (42mm) and the straps are a big problem for me. I have a really small wrist and it definitely looks and feels weird. Luckly I could use the straps from my original galaxy watch (first generation) and they fit perfectly!
@@1970Metallica Thanks for confirming. I have original Galaxy Watch 46mm so nothing will be usable I believe including the charger and straps. Also is the charger having type C port?
Onto body composition stuff, it's best to measure it at the same time of day, before eating something. When you eat/drink, obviously more stuff comes into your body and while actual body composition will not change, the stuff the watch can measure will actually change. Try measuring it in the morning before doing anything - you should be able to get consistent results, which are the closest to actual reality.
I'd have to disagree. I have visible abs, and should be in the 12-15% body fat range. Regardless of many variables that I've tried (different times of day, different levels of water/food intake, and from waking up empty stomach at lowest weight, etc) the lowest I've ever seen this watch measure me was at 21% body fat. So for someone like me who would prefer a more accurate reading, this watch failed. So I really wouldn't rely on this being close to actual reality.
@@waldamy be that as it may, comparing to equipment using the same type of technology carries the same, potential inaccuracies. The most accurate measurements come from a dexa scan. I'd be more interested to see someone compare to that.

But it's still a few weeks before I'm done with my cut, so if I've decided to keep the watch by then, I'll consider doing a more precise measurement. There's no doubt this watch, and similar techs, aren't suited for my purposes. It's just the matter of by how much they're off, and whether that truly matters to the majority of the people using it.

Yes! I was looking forward to your review, Mike! Always very informative. That watch (especially silver) is GORGEOUS!!! I'm looking forward to receiving mine this week.
I've experienced the same laggy start up on the watch 3. Only seems to happen at start up and if left like you said it'll go back to it normal snappiness. Best I could work out is on start up all the apps are loading and updating at the same time, something that the watch isn't optimised for, a lot of "always running" apps are put to sleep between uses to minimise the impact on the watch. On start up the watch just has to deal with all, tbh it's a small price to pay for something that's optimised really well 99.99% of the time and that will eventually go as hardware overtakes software
Thanks for the review. Just cancelled my order because these are the same type of issues I am having with my 2018 galaxy watch since day one. Sleep recorded, footsteps counted when I am just sitting and inaccurate GPS tracking were always an issue. After all the updates nothing has ever been fixed. With Samsungs track record and the issues you brought up I doubt they will ever fix anything. I thought things were going to be better having google wear OS in the mix but I realized what the main problem is, the preloaded samsung apps are dominant and they make it a hassle to put certain google apps on and use them. It’s hard to look at the Galaxy Watch 4 as anything other than a compromise of a device compared to a true Google OS watch. It’s a flagship Wear OS 3 watch that runs Samsung’s UI on top, won’t ship with Google Assistant, and comes packed with default apps that compete with Google’s own services. Waiting for a Pixel Watch🤞🏻.
Excellent software instruction video Mike. In reality, Tizen hasn't been incorporated into Wear, Wear has been incororporated into Tizen. Samsung really made the Android OS usable.
Yes I agree. I am typically not one to wear silver watches, but with a nice strap, it can look really nice! I am going to continue shopping for a new strap I like
This is just a personal opinion... I really wish someday Samsung would release a version of a current watch strictly focused on productivity. A watch for people like me who don't care anything about all those fitness features crammed into the watch and taking up memory and resources. Great video as always, I've been waiting for this one. I will be ordering the Black 46mm Classic LTE as soon as my Samsung store credits from my Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 purchase becomes available.
Ok I received the pre order watch 4 44mm. Automatically I missed the Samsung original Digital Dash board face. The new one fonts are to small to read. Comparing Apples to Galaxy, Watch 4 needs more Ram, and storage in my opinion. It's android so you need more. For example my Apple watch can control household appliances but Watch 4 doesn't even support the Apps to run on Wifi. Finding a lot of Google watch faces don't support full function on the Galaxy watch 4. Watch 4 needs a better Goodnight mode for battery 🔋, they need to take a page from Apple in that function. I do believe this device is the base to a better Galaxy watch. Great video thanks 👏🏾.
Mike, thank you for another wonderful and insightful review! One question I hope you can answer is whether the stair count problem has been resolved. I've had the original Galaxy watch (42mm) and even if I've walked up ten flights of stairs, it may only register one or two flights. Still, I plan to order the 42mm Galaxy 4 Classic today.
Really enjoyable video to watch. I hope you do more videos on Wear OS 3 in the future. In the review I think you could’ve shown the Google Apps running on there and you didn’t mention YT music at all. Also, why did you take the BIA measurements whilst standing??
I absolutely will create more WearOS 3 videos soon! It was not specified whether I should stand or sit, and perhaps it makes no difference, but for the purpose of a clean and consistent experiment, I stood for each test.
Mike, I eyeballed you wearing this bad boy in one of your previous videos and could not wait for your review. Thank you VERY much for this. I've been anticipating this watch for a long time now, and I went with the 42mm version because of my small wrists. However, I am super curious... You are easily my favorite tech reviewer because of your practical talking points and the level of depth that you provide. You don't mumble over silly points and over talk stats because they're unnecessary. You do ALL of the things that these bigger (you'll get there!) reviewers don't and that's why yours are the best. Would you ever be able to do a comparison in battery between the 42mm and the 46mm?
I appreciate your kind words! Thank you for watching my channel and sharing your positive feedback. Honestly, I will probably not compare the 42mm and 46mm in a video because I did not order the 42mm. The only major difference (besides the size) is going to be the battery. If you are thinking the 46mm will be too large, perhaps you would want to consider the 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 (not classic). Just a thought!

Had great expectations from the Samsung-Google collaboration. But it seems that it’ll take them some more time to come out with a perfect Android Watch. But as always a great in-depth review. Waiting for more comparison videos to see where this watch stands.
Great review as always Mike, thanks for your effort and detail! Couple questions though: 1. I heard the battery life on the watch 4 was relatively short compared to past generations and other brands. I'm surprised you didn't mention it but was your experience with the battery life and reguarl use? 2. I'm definitely interested in the classic version, but the "active version" has gotten zero love or attention on YT. Do you like the design of it compared to the classic does the touch bezel work as well as the physical one on the classic? Would appreciate your thoughts on this as well thanks!
Battery life isn't that good. It drains pretty fast when you're not using the watch. I have to charge mine everyday. I recommend turning the watch off when not using to save battery. It charges pretty quick with the charger they included. I recommend having an outlet with USB ports for charging.
Well done! Great and detailed videos man with high-quality footage! The only feedback is that: as a consumer, I actually like to know the drawbacks upfront but love that you preview your topics and allow people to jump through. As for comparisons, I would love to see a comparison of the watch4 classic with the watch3 classic to know if it is truly worth the extra cash $$$ or wait until the next upgrade. Thanks!
Same here. I've been happy with my original Galaxy Watch but this update may make me change my mind. I've only seen comparisons between the 4 & 3, not between the 4 and original.
Great video Mike, really enjoyed it and i like all the areas u covered. Finally happy that Samsung has adapted Wear OS and i hope it gets better over time Greetings from Sri Lanka
I use bixby alot and it is absolutely good IMO I actually prefer it over siri as I also have both note 20 Ultra 5g and iPhone 12 pro max , bixby kills siri.

nice review - yes some definite growing pains - i am still debating if I should return the Galaxy 4 and stick with my Active 2 or just keep it and hope things will get better - right now I am having a difficult time finding a working Watchface (other than the ones that came with the watch that is) and was hoping the WearOS watchfaces would work since I have a number already purchased - but alas - they only partially work and things like Samsung Health steps dont come across (and for a fitness watch is kinda important :) ) Thanks for your review!

Can you make comparison with galaxy watch 3 if possible
Well done bro continue
All the best for you
Had great expectations from the Samsung-Google collaboration. But it seems that it’ll take them some more time to come out with a perfect Android Watch. But as always a great in-depth review. Waiting for more comparison videos to see where this watch stands.
Silicone strap is like the first Galaxy Watch has, and buttons design is similar as well.
Love ur videos
Keep up the good work m8👍👍👍
You review is getting really good, Nice!
You mentioned the BP monitoring, but fid not say that it is not working in the US
Bought the watch 3 some month ago on prime day for a really good price. Would you upgrade to the 4 classic?
I wanted to earlier but as of now, not thinking of upgrading cause I thr watch 3 ticks all my boxes that I needed it to do.
Excellent clarification of the limits of Samsung's announced features.
Thank you!
Hello Mike, awesome vid and review pal, just wondering will GW4 will get that wearOS 3 update? Thanks pal , great channel!
Great review as always Mike, thanks for your effort and detail!
Couple questions though:
He did mention it.
@@Catloverplayer quick? It takes around 2 hours for me
@Fayad It was 1:25 for me but I upgraded to the Watch 5. The speaker went out on my watch 4.
@@Catloverplayer thanks for replying, i just got the watch 4, hope that the charging and battery life improves.. currently it's a sad state..
Thanks!
Great Video!!
Is this now the announced WearOS 3?
Been waiting for your reviews on Samsung's new watches. Awesome video!
What is your wrist size, Mike? I think you mentioned this information in previous videos but I can't find it. Thank you so much! 🙂
I would love to see a comparison between OG Galaxy Watch 46mm and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
Same here. I've been happy with my original Galaxy Watch but this update may make me change my mind. I've only seen comparisons between the 4 & 3, not between the 4 and original.
@1:30 I hope that's a stock watch face. It looks really nice on this watch.
Sorry I have never used this type of watch but this looks pretty good.
Thanks for watching!
Why sorry bro?!
I,ve got Watch 4 and Watch 4 classic, I definitely prefer the bezel. 😍
Love this guy's humor 😂😂❤️
Thanks! Much appreciated
Great video Mike, really enjoyed it and i like all the areas u covered. Finally happy that Samsung has adapted Wear OS and i hope it gets better over time
Greetings from Sri Lanka
Was waiting fr this review 😍
Very nice detailed review
Do you recommend upgrading from Galaxy Watch 3?
I was waiting for your review.
Wow! Bixby looks so fast right now! 😳
This watchface with the bear is the best watchface ever! It's so cute! 😍
I use bixby alot and it is absolutely good IMO I actually prefer it over siri as I also have both note 20 Ultra 5g and iPhone 12 pro max , bixby kills siri.
Thanks for the review. I've just got mine, there's a setting for auto detect workouts which seems to have been enabled by default. However, it doesn't seems to be working when I do walk or jog. Just wondering if you know the problem might be? Thanks
Mine detects after 10 min of working out
@@HollywoodingNews all Samsung watches have that auto detect after 10 min
Great ... Honest Review! Thanks.!
Subscribing 👍
Thank you! I really appreciate your kind words
I got it and i love it 😍😍
I have the galaxy watch classic 4 in black. Could not get the metal version for some reason in Canada. I looked on the samsung and bestbuy site and no other colors. A bit annoyed but it is what it is. Also ordered the tic watch pro 3 as well. Can't wait for both
How do you enable blood pressure?
Not available in US .. still.. because FCC
@@mikeholman863 that’s funny. They can approve a vaccine that was rushed and has been proven not to work but they can’t approve a Watch that detects blood pressure because it might be off by a few points 😂. America does not make sense.
With a trigger for google assistant would have been awesome 🔥🔥
it’s possible disable bezel function to use it like dive watch or to track time elapse ? i mean = disable the bezel to dont go to menu when i turn or spin . I want that the bezel even rotating do not go to menu , i need to stay in pointers face to use tachymeter
Is it possible to measure blood pressure even if you don't have a Samsung Phone?
Cool vid, will smash the like button
Thanks!
Great review as always, but did i miss it or you didnt include battery performance?
He clearly talked about it in the beginning about 1 to 2 day life per charge
@@Shawno1978 great, thanks 👍🏻
Can you activate Bixby through a voice command? Or only through pressing the button?
nice watch and u have good explanation capability keep it up sir💖
I dont know whitch one I shoulbd buy, the 44 or 46 mm. On your wrist the 46 looks realy good. So could you tell me whats your wrist size plz? So I can compare with my wrist.
I'm still waiting for my classic since August 27th. But samsung had no problem taking the $450 on the day I ordered it.
nice review - yes some definite growing pains - i am still debating if I should return the Galaxy 4 and stick with my Active 2 or just keep it and hope things will get better - right now I am having a difficult time finding a working Watchface (other than the ones that came with the watch that is) and was hoping the WearOS watchfaces would work since I have a number already purchased - but alas - they only partially work and things like Samsung Health steps dont come across (and for a fitness watch is kinda important :) ) Thanks for your review!
great info, thx buddy
Just a thought 💡why don't they make it to where our bodies can charge the watch or make the screen solar
