This watch isn't what you think. It may seem like a sequel to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, but without the bezel. This smartwatch is actually Samsung trying something completely different.

ADDITIONAL REVIEW NOTES:
FEATURES:
GPX file imports for route navigation (not exactly an easy thing to do. Others may prefer komoot)
GPS route tracking & Track back
Auto workout tracking (of course)
Bixby… let’s try asking the weather in Manayunk or Bala Cynwyd
Temperature sensor on redesigned health sensor array
PHYSICAL DESIGN:
One size: 45mm and it is pretty chunky aesthetically, but in actual use, it is not bad at all. I really like the size and weight of it.
Large black bezel though
The raised edge is a welcomed improvement - I destroyed my GWA2 from rock climbing
The raised bezel actually makes the digital bezel easier to use
Tougher sapphire crystal display
Titanium case
The buttons feel premium - noticeably well designed
IP68 of course
I actually really like the strap - it is very comfortable, and the magnet makes it secure and repeatable while being infinitely adjustable
MIC AND SPEAKER TEST
Battery - is it enough to compete in this space?
From my testing, I would expect to use about 31% per day with about an hour of working out, so I could see about 3 days of use per charge - this is SUBSTANTIALLY better than the Apple watch and older Galaxy Watches
Internally, this is nearly identical to the Galaxy Watch 4 in many ways besides the added off grid features like route tracking, the longer battery life, and the redesigned health sensor array which now includes a temperature sensor. If you are really nit picking, this technically has bluetooth 5.2
HEALTH:
Redesigned sensor is flatter for better readings
Advanced sleep coaching and improved sleep tracking UI
GPS struggles at first to find location, but then performs well
Heart recovery
ECG
Body composition
ACCURACY TEST

GALAXY WATCH 5 PRO 👉 mikeobrienmedia.com/Galaxy-Watch-5
What do you think of this new watch line Samsung is testing out? Do you want the bezel back?
Have the bezel on my w4c, I think they made a mistake taking it out. Odds are they will bring it back with another model like you mentioned on your video.
I odered it giving up my 4 classic i know im gona miss bezel but gota have that battery life
I am upgrading from classic 3 which I love .... will see if same feeling ....hope so
One question, in comparison to the watch 4 classic, how's the speed and response time of the watch 5 pro?
because with my watch 4 classic, at times it lags a little with voice to text recognition and google assistant.
Mike, I'm really looking forward to know if this will replace the Venu 2 Plus as your daily driver. I'm still on the Watch 3 and keen on getting the 5 Pro but wondering how it'll be practical for bed use.
Thanks for this video. You have been doing a great job. Just picked up the Pro. When you first started using the watch did the screen seem as vibrant a previous versions? I feel like you have to crank up the brightness to 8 or 9 to achieve suffient brightness.
I called it! Samsung's attempt at a Suunto 7. Fitness focused, with Wear OS underneath. The reason this watch will be more successful is because it's a Samsung. There are a lot more people on the smart watch side looking for something with better health and fitness features than there are people on the health and fitness side that are looking for better smart watch features. Suunto simply has the wrong primary customer base to pull this off. I'd even go as far to say that the majority of people that wear Samsung or Apple watches don't even know what Suunto is.
To be fair, Samsung and Suunto are aiming for 2 different markets. Samsung just happens to be branching out lately and staying with the trends. Like how hybrid cars were niche, now it's popular. Or how 29" bike wheels were frowned upon until people realized there was a time and place. Now it's mainstream. You can't get upset at companies for changing with the times
I hope they give us the option if Google decides to let fitbit integration work with the watch 5. for now Samsung health
You definitely nailed it on this review,it's truly the best of both worlds, good enough fitness tracking and a fully functional smart watch, with good battery life 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Can't wait for mine to arrive on Tuesday! Great video as always!
Excellent information-packed review.
Do you know if the back sensor cover on the 5 Pro is attached with glue like it has been on past models? I'm thinking of getting one but not if the watch is out together with glue!
Great review! Strange the route feature doesn't work with runs. Interested to see if Apple does release a pro/rugged version soon!
the new Galaxy watch 5 Pro is outstanding.
I've seen so many reviews so many people talking about the rotating beze.
I had the Galaxy watch 4 classic, but the Galaxy watch 5 Pro is hands down my favorite watch now.
I don't miss the bezel.
There's one thing I've noticed is the crystal display feels and looks so much better on a watch.
Even though the 5 Pro is fatter it's definitely much later because of the titanium metal that is. Titanium is heavier than aluminum but you don't need a lot of titanium metal to how is a smartwatch. Battery life not sure yet I just got it today. I will let you know.
Thank you very much for your wonderful video have a beautiful day
make your life a masterpiece
1 Year later how is it? I'm getting one today.
@@Mahoxy one year later still amazing. The updates are perfect. Still get about 3 days of battery life
@@mr.rainbowlovescoffee Oh nice glad to hear that, thanks!
@@Mahoxy you are very welcome
@@Mahoxyverdict? I'm getting mine tomorrow! But I'm still gritty. Should I bite the bullet?
What a review! Your knowledge of the watch and smart watches generally is fantastic.
Hello, I really like that video. I cannot decide between GW5 pro and Garmin Venu 2 plus. I am sport enthusiast but definitely not professional or even semi pro. I do a few bike rides per week (around 100km) some walks/hiking, 3-4 workouts/pilates and 3-4 sessions of stationary bike. I need to have amoled, UI which works fast and smoothly and accurate GPS and HR. I do not need external sensors. I need HR mainly to check if my training was hard and to count calories correctly. I also need app for counting hydration. What do you think will be better choice Venu2+ or GW5 pro? Or maybe something different? Thank you in advance
Great video! I pre-ordered my Watch 5 Pro. It will be here this coming Tuesday. I'm not going to lie; I was bothered by the no-rotating bezel, but after I saw the in-screen rotation, I felt better. I also like that thickness and size as I have a slightly larger wrist. I can't wait until Tuesday; I have the watch 4 classics right now, and I've loved everything about it except the battery life and the fact it took so long to get Google on it. I get two days, if I was lucky, and with only the essentials notifying me on the watch.
How is it
@@oreos922 It has been great! I get 3 days out of it before needing to charge it. Also, don't worry about it not having the rotating bezel the watch screen works as good if not better. You won't have a problem using it.
So it lasts about as long as the ticwatch pro 3..
very happy with mine, coming from a gw4 classic. the battery life is massive night and day difference. nice video, very clear shots
Does it work with other android devices now? Google assistant? I feel like Samsung will still beat Google with battery life the tizen stuff was really impressive previously.
I also come from the GW4 Classic but I'm not happy at all.
-I lost track of how many times I've tried to rotate the missing bezel. I guess I'll get used to it.
-I didn't need a sapphire glass but I didn't think I was going to hate it. It is so reflective that it compromises screen quality.
I hate feeling unhappy after an upgrade and this is the second time in a row.
Quite literally night & day rather than just day
@@alejandroavila2646 yep, same
.. Took me a few days to stop doing that. But the battery.... Soooo much better
Thanks Mike, your reviews are always so thorough and well written!! After seeing this, I'm definitely looking more towards the Watch 4 classic, I love that rotating bezel too much!!
Watch 4 Classic battery life is suspect. BUT...I kept it and traded in my S3 Frontier for Watch 5 (not pro). I couldn't give up the bezel 😬. I'll just toggle between the watches while the battery charges!
Thank you for your kind words!
im glad bought this as my first smart watch really helpful on my workout and daily drivers thanks for the review tho 🙂
Getting my pro Tues with good trade value in from watch 3. Just worried if if will fit well with mountain bike gloves and still function well.
Mike where do you find the IEME number on the galaxy watch 4, I want to do a trade for the watch 5, but all I can find is the serial number in settings.
I just got my new watch today. I was so excited until I found out there was no way to get rid of the lead 0 on the digital time. Do you know of a work around for that?
The size was (pleasantly) smaller than I expected. I tried it on in the store and it felt a good bit smaller than my gear 3 frontier. Considering upgrading but I’d really miss the rotating bezel
Coming from the galaxy watch 3 46" LTE, would you upgrade to the Galaxy watch 5 PRO or wait for the Google Pixel watch
Nice review, thanks!
Thanks for the video...
Can u plz write your wrist circumference !?
The watch face with the colorful lower ring, is called what? My 5 Pro didn't come with that face so I'm assuming you added it? TIA.
got the normal watch 4, will probably wait for next years model, too few upgrades
Can you see the map on the health app on phone? My 4 classic they removed it . Could not find it anymore. Want to see map for walking, biking
I was waiting for your video.
Very Nice review! Im waiting for My watch. Im nervous about the thiknicks.
That's a sic watch face on the Garmin venu 2 Plus. Which one is that? Great review BTW
Nice review Mike..
do you think battery can last at least 15 hours on gps running mode?
45mm not really big deal. Keep in mind I'm 5'2" and I have small wrist. It's not as big as it seems (this is my first smart watch), barely fits my wrist, and you need too; cut some part off with precise measurement because of the material band. No problem jogging, done weightlifting, and surprisingly, able to sleep with it on. No problem at all
btw, there is a feature where you can select "watch only" on battery life. proclaims to last 11 days if you keep it on "watch only. Right now, it's 44% and says to last 6 D 22H if I turn it on
Been debating switching from my Garmin Venu for this. Thank you so much for this video
I was researching about different smartwatches over the last few months since I wanted to buy my first one. Your channel is great and helped me a lot btw!
I waited for the Samsung unpacked before I made a decision and was let down by what they showed. I now own the GW4 Classic which I picked up for half the price of the 5 pro and I really enjoy it. The bigger battery on the 5 pro is certainly nice, but the look of the watch is more important to me. And the classic look with the bezel is just extremly satisfying and makes navigation smooth and easy
If I see the need to have a sport/outdoor focused watch I would probably pick something up from Garmin as a second device. But the GW4 Classic seems to be the best allrounder (including the looks) and seems to fit my need. Glad I got it over the 5 pro.
I upgraded from the 4 classic. Really enjoyed it but disliked having to charge it daily. Only reasons I upgraded to the 5 pro was for the materials (titanium+saphire) and battery. Other than that it is basically the same thing.
Thank you. Saved both videos including the one last week
Getting mine on Tuesday can't wait to try it out
Does it run Fitbit and Strava apps?
can you show me how to take it off? the resease lever is inside of band and can't be reached once wear
Good reviewشكرا
The raised area between the buttons is missing from the 5 Pro. I feel this will lead to uninentional button actuations.
I've had mine since yesterday. I had the watch4 44m. I didn't have interest in the rotating bezel, im fairly active and thought it was just something else that could break. So far the battery life is awesome and I love the raised bezel around the edge, I broke alot of screen protectors on the 4. I like the new sport buckle but takes alittle getting used to. As far comfort I find that it is very similar to the 4. Some reviews said it was huge. I don't think it looks any different. Oh and samsung added a pretty nice wireless charger with the pre-order
I'm debating the same move atm, primarily because of the battery barely last day and a half on 4. How much of a difference this watch is regarding your daily use? Also, is it noticably heavier than you 4 was? Thanks!
I dont feel a difference in weight and I feel that it fits better with the new style strap. I get at least 80 hours with it and that's using the workout app usually once a day for an hour. The GPS might not that down a bit but noticeably. I went away for 3 days recently and didn't bring the charger I think I was around 20 percent when I got home. It's basically a beefed of version of the 4. Oh and I bang mine off stuff all the time the raised bezel has saved me countless times already
@@andrewandy9425 Awesome, 80 hours seems like something I can live with. Thank you, really appreciate it.
Can I ask please about the magnetic strap lock - is it steong enough for extreme sports? If I'm planning to go kitesurfing with this watch should I buy an alternative strap?
Yep, strong enough. But not possible to use with flat (on table) chager, or these dual phone+watch charger. Only way to use it is replace this otherwise nice strap.
Any Heating issues?
Personally as soon as I heard the battery is Double the size is what sold me.
Which do you like better the GW5 Pro or the Garmin Venu 2 plus?
Can you use this to connect to your phone without having data service from your phone carrier?
Hi Just received my Galaxy Watch5 Pro Bluetooth without the Watch strap spoke to Samsung they are not aware and was told I need to buy from the web site is this right?
What is the back of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro made of? I heard from some reviews that is plastic but Titanium Sapphire and plastic doesn't go together or? 😁
Very in depth review
Will you be doing a review for the regular watch 5
Do you think it's worth upgrading from a s3 gear frontier?
I was wondering if I should get this or wait and see how the pixel watch is. I have a TicWatch Pro and want to upgrade, just not sure which one.
Wait for the Pixel, I returned my Galaxy watch classic it sucked.
Thanks for the great review! You are the first I've seen who suggested something so simple - tick marks or something visual on the big fat black bezel around the screen. This would have been a welcome addition to this watch. I ordered one for myself, but I'm not sure if it will replace my Garmin Venu 2 Plus. I am in the battery crew - I'm willing to sacrifice on some of the more "smart" features for a watch that I can truly go on a 4 day adventure weekend and not even think about needing to bring a charger for my watch. I don't believe the GW 5 Pro will be able to do that.
A great video on this watch brother. I still use and own the Galaxy watch gear Sport. I will be upgrading to this ⌚.
Gr8 real world review. There are so many lame click bait reviews out there. Glad I found this. Cheers...
Looks cool I'm interested
I traded my watch 4 classic 42 mm that I got from the S22 bundle deal in March for the 5 pro. I received $240 credit for it and I paid $210 for the 5 pro (bluetooth) after taxes and discounts.
Great review!!!!
Great review! Besides the battery, is this worth the upgrade from the watch 4 classic?
I have the 4 classic 46 mm and honestly I wouldn't trade mine in,yes the battery is nice but if you already get like 2 days an half out your watch like I do than that's not the issue and yea the sapphire glass is nice but me personally I never had an issue in messing up my screens even I do gardening and landscaping.
if u want an ugly thick watch with no bezel but a better battery yes
Waiting for mine to be delivered. Can't wait
Wish I could get mine sooner! Pre-ordered 3 weeks ago and got notified that I wouldn't get it till September 27th!!
I got the Watch Active 2 since 2020, and it's been really really nice! But with that being said.. Obviously, after some years of daily use the battery is draining a little faster/battery last shorter than it used to be. I love my watch and I would like to get a new one but not yet, I am hesitating between the Watch 5 Pro and the Watch 4 Classic. The Watch 4 Classic with the bezel (a feature I would like to experience and would probably love) is really nice but is not really brand new of a watch with the 5 and 5 Pro out now... I don't know if I should just wait for a Watch 6 in the future and see if they reintroduce the bezel with it...
So far I'm really liking mine, but I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't add back Auto detect for cycling I used to love that feature on previous Samsung watches.
is auto detect there for workouts like push ups etc ?
then cycle one was there in watch 4?
@@nipunbangad8632 so far it is auto detected when I have walked, but just like the watch 4 there is no Auto detect for cycling which is really disappointing... Not sure about push-ups
Please show us how the nest cameras work on GW5.
I should get mine Tuesday!
Great review, subscribed.
Thank you so much!
Really great info I was looking for! I see your a philly boy like myself so DEFINITELY get a thumbs up for me!!!
Run accuracy on treadmill?
Best review I seen on the watch 5 thanks
Does this have the blood pressure monitor
What's your wrist measurement?
I have looked consecutively at every generation of galaxy watch and held out until now. One reason - everyday toughness. I wanted a smart watch that had reasonable battery life, the full suite of android smartwatch features combined with a tough body that can handle a rough work environment, of which one of the BIGGEST features for me is a recessed watch face. Watch 4 classic was nice with the bezel, but felt too cheap and plasticy in comparison. Watch 5 pro feels like it's built for the job. A tough smartwatch that can handle the workday but can also be worn out on the weekend.
Hi.. Samsung's website says, it does not sync with pixel 6 phone. Is it true ?
Excellent, excellent, excellent. I rarely like or subscribe. The made meneed to see the next video of the next despirate tech I needed. Thanks Mike
Do these work with Garmin heart rate straps?
Can you compare the BT and LTE variants for this watch before I buy the LTE variant to see if it is worth it?
You should include how much time does it take to charge fully
I upgraded from 4 classic because my 4 classic is having weird issues and the trade in was outstanding... Just wish the damn fcc would approve bp in usa
How many watts of charger should be used for galaxy smart watch 5 pro
Nailed it as always! Are you going to review the Watch 5?
Awesome! I love mine!
Does Samsung have any weekly motivating goals like Garmin's intensity minutes, or Fitbit active minutes?
After using galaxy watch 4 for year, definitely upgrade to watch 5 pro this time.. thanks 😊
As ways bruh, you nailed it. Ty
9:14 that bugs still there I hate that😤 when it just scroll to the end real fast and u have to go back
I love my galaxy 3 titanium but won’t bother with a new galaxy watch until they stop or add the ability to disable the frustrating screen saver that interrupts things like the timer or stopwatch.
Mine just shipped. Should have it by Tuesday 8/23. Can't wait.
Hey Mike please compare it with Garnin venu 2 plus
Can you do a 4 classic vs 5 pro?
can you also make a galaxy watch 4 vs 5 comparison?
My watch 4 Classic ( 8 months old) got wet while swimming and water went inside. I sent the watch to Samsung and they voided the warranty stating that the watch had water inside. They asked me to pay $180, which I refused. So now, I have a dead Galaxy Watch 4 Classic at home. I also did not like to have to practically charge the Watch 4 Classic daily. I am hoping this watch lasts for at least 2 days. I ordered the Fold 4 bundle and my Watch 5 Pro came free. I am hoping for it to work better. I will also get the Samsung Care+ for it. While ordering the cost was $49 for 2 years.
I agree the watch sucked, I returned mine. It was a gimmick at best.
@@shanew7361 same, I purchased mine 7 months after release. I returned it after 1 week. I hope this one convinces me but it should, since I got it for extremely low price due to preorder.
I like the rotating bezel
Does it have AOD without the 20 minute limit, or are you stuck with the timed sleep mode for the display?
AOD all the time, or 15-30-60 sec time sleep.
@@japomi does it dim the brightness though?
@@Hagonish you mean the AOD? That depends on watch face.
The "time sleep mode" doesn't.
@@japomi ye, im looking for a watch i can use as an accessorie that isnt just a black circle on my wrist. If the AOD is a simplified version of the watch faces, or if it dims down to a brightness that makes it more difficult to see the watch face, it would be a deal breaker for me. Im currently using the huawei gt2 pro which only has a 20 minute time limit for the endless selection of watch faces. It does have aod, but only for 6 pre selected watch faces, and these get dimmed aswell after a short amount of time.
@@Hagonish got it. Came from Hua watch GT3, so I know the diff between them. The Hua are better in battery (of course 10-12 day) and endless watch faces to select from. Everything else - GW are way better because of the system. I was using the GW4 classic too before and except the battery I like them more than GW5 Pro. for design and the rot.bezel. The electronic bezel is nowhere close.
I don't see the reason to upgrade for just a few more upgrades. Especially when it's the same specs
I have the 4 classic as much as I use it I barely use the rotating bezel. At one point I forgot all about it
Its incredible how much people rave about the rotating brezel. I have had classic 4 and never use the bezel.
how is heart rate detection accuracy on samsung watch 5 pro ?
Can you also make a comparison between this and venu 2 plus please
Watching this till the end , you answered my question :)
good review 👍
Stay bless
Thank you for the great review. I actually traded in my classic 4 today.. I hadn't really planned on it but Samsung had a Black Friday deal I couldn't resist $240 trade-in and I'm a Samsung member had points so I basically got the watch for $18.
I did the same. The battery life is much improved. I have the lte version. I turned off the lte and I had 3.5 days of battery. Currently testing with lte on.
I still have the watch 3 and been running fine for my uses. So unsure if I necessarily need to upgrade
Waiting on my pre-order to arrive. I'll miss my OG galaxy watch.
