    All the taxis here in Stockholm are either Volvos, Mercs or BMWs and i have to say that the S80 is still the most comfortable of them all. The backseat in the E-class is as flat as a wooden bench!

    I can honestly say the S80 is a good practical luxury sedan. Had a 2013 version and recently just traded her in for a Xc90. And all the S80 is very well built reliable swedish brick. Had no complaints about that car. Volvo for life.

    I have the s80. It's a really comfortable, reliable, well built cruiser. That's what it is. No more, no less. If you want a better driving experience and a nicer exterior coupled with bad reliability and a crappy, plastic interior get a bmw 5 series. If you want an average exterior, and nice interior, a high price and uncomfortable seats get a mercedes e class.
    On a completely different note, carbuyer, PLEASE get your hands on the new XC90 as soon as you can and do a review on it!
    P.S. Carbuyer is biased towards German cars, especially BMWs for some reason. I can now conclude after being subscribed to them for over a year.

      Personally, I've never driven any Volvo but always liked their designs. I think they are more for people who feel they don't have much to prove to the world. It seems BMW, Audi and Merc drivers are trying to prove something every day... the fact that they drive like assholes. And I drive an Audi so I guess that includes me. My next car is a Volvo!

      demurgetroid Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I respect yours too of course. However, personally I have only had bad experiences with BMW interiors. I have owned and driven both 3 series and 5 series BMWs (not the x5 though), and compared to an Audi, Volvo or Mercedes, in my opinion the BMW interiors feel outdated, not very unique (by that I mean that they look almost the same through the entire BMW lineup of cars), not very innovative and plasticy (by that I mean that too much, extremely creaky plastic that gives off very annoying and loud sounds is used). Also the seats are not very impressive, although of course a lot better in a 5 series than a 3 series. I do like other things about BMWs though. I think the exterior design is stunning, and the driving experience is fantastic (except in snowy, icy conditions due to the RWD). My point is that in my personal opinion, BMWs are overrated, both by the general public and by car reviewers.

    • @verliebt3465
      @verliebt3465 9 лет назад +1

      ***** you haven't had a bmw.
      even in a 3 series you'll have a hard time finding plastic pieces of trim. and It doesn't creak. I've recently driven a 3-series from 2002 for a few weeks and nothing creaked. I even spent time inside a 5-series from 2006, nothing creaked there either.
      as for the seats, depends.
      you can have the normal comfy seats or select sporty seats.
      but even if you got for the sporty ones, you wont feel any discomfort sitting in them for several hours. they're however a bit harder to get in and out of.
      and to claim the audi interior is more innovative is laughable. audis imo have the most boring interior you can find in that price range.

    I just sold my Volvo V40 R-Design '15 and bought a S80 Summum '12. It's a D3 diesel which is now programmed to 215hp/454nm. I absolutely love it. It performs very well in all my everyday tasks and especially the overtaking acceleration is suprisingly fast. As a family man, the boot size is also important. Volvo´s are lovely. Have had 2, a 1993 850 and a 2011 S40. Two complaints about the latter. 1) Internal (and external non painted) plastics looked like they had already been recycled. 2) Resale possibilities. A friend of mine fell in love with the S40, sold it without hesitation, or else, it turns into a truly "Volvo for life" (purchase it and no one will purchase it back)...

The door-bins are not big so you don't review the rest of the storage places. And other times you say the middle-seat is small, so the whole car is small in the back.

    Gentlemen, if you want to be impressed drive an 2005 first gen S80 PREMIER! Mine has every. Option known to mankind. Dual DVD screens in the front headrests and plays two different DVD’s simultaneously. Couple this with glove soft leather seats front and rear. Mine also has the completely single rear seat fold down option. Good for hauling 4 bodies should you be so inclined! BUT, my. 05 S80 Premier also sports a centrally located “refrigerator “”! For keeping ones wine and cheese at a proper temperature!, it is fully adjustable on the thermostat! I’m quoting my Volvo owner’s manual explaining the refrigerator! Up. Front there is a pop-up GPS screen in the center of the glare shield. A pilots term! There. Are more buttons on the “”real rosewood steering wheel! Under the hood/bonnet is. The real T6. Engine. Transversely mounted 2.9 liter, twin cammed, twin turbocharged six cylinder engine that delivers 276 factory rated horsepower. To round out the package is the $2,800 USD sport handling package with stiffer springs, real 18” magnesium sport wheels and shod with 235/40/VR 18 pilot sports. There is no better a automobile to drive 500+ miles in a day. I’ve owned 7 BMW’S with 44 of them being M cars. I’d rather drive my S80 Premier any day on long trips. As for poor or mushy handling goes. Here in East. Tennessee we have a true “killer. Road” called the tail of the dragon! Lots of crosses and flowers are on the side of the road. My S80 takes it with great aplomb!

    I don't think anyone can argue that the design of the S80 is dated and soon to be replaced - but where the car excels compared to the Germans is in the passenger comfort. Not everyone wants a car that drives like a sports car with very stiff suspension (this means YOU Audi!) There is still a place in the world for refined, comfortable and subtle cars like the S80.

    I still don't understand why car reviewers always mention that there is a transmission tunnel. I mean, roughly 75-80% of all cars today, are front wheel driven. That means, there are no axles underneath the car, except the exhaust pipe.
    Are the reviewers not up-to-date with today's technology?

    • @kissmeraas
      @kissmeraas 9 лет назад

      Raymond Isaak They call it that because that's it's name. Perhaps YOU are not familiar with today's technology? It's called "four wheel drive" (it's only been around for over a 100 years) and is often
      available or planned as a variant of front wheel drive cars, hence the transmission tunnel...

Just because it isn't actually covering a transmission, doesn't change the tunnels purpose or its name! A seat cover is still called a seat cover even when it's not actually covering a seat :-o

      +Lucas Kroon we British people are too cocky to consider that. We simply care about what badge we can show off to people, irregardless of what the car itself is like. It's stupid I know. But we seem to ignore the fact that Jaguar Land Rover is Indian owned.

    I dont understand the model comparison, he compared it with bmw 5 series. Isnt s80 supposed to be Volvo flagship against 7 series and the big mercs? I know it probably doesnt in real world as the 7 series seems lightyears ahead. But what is s60 competing against then? s40 has always compete against bmw 3 series although again, not quite up there but is the car in same class with the audi 4, merc 4 and 3 series usually been in comparison tests in magazines.

    • @stergiothess

      Volvo S40 --> Scoda Octavia, Opel Vectra, Ford Mondeo...Volvo S60--> Audi A4, BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, Mercedes C-class...Volvo S80--> Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-Class

    • @verliebt3465
      @verliebt3465 9 лет назад

      you're correct.
      the S80 is supposed to be the best Volvo can offer,
      they also have the S60 and S40.
      if you put the s80 with the 5 series and the s60 with the 3 series, then where does the s40 end up? it's a lot bigger than the 2 series or 1 series.
      all reviewers do this however, specially in Sweden. they compare it based on price, not size or product lineup of the maker.
      it's the only way for Volvo to score some decent points.
      otherwise Volvos would be revealed to be the overpriced mediocre cars they truly are.

    I think he didn't do the car justice he should of had the d5 it's way better in my opinion and the v70 d5 is the best estate car u can buy especially if u tune/map it, in my opinion

      In which way is V70 better than for example A6, E class or 5 series estates? In nothing, it does nothing better than them.

    • @THERUBBISHPCKID
      @THERUBBISHPCKID 9 лет назад +1

      derbigpr500 sure it does, and estate is meant for practicality, its probably the best practical estate out there, and it carrys five people comfortably. and its still decently sporty with OHMERRGAWWD FLAPPY PADELS. but anyway if u dont agree i do not wish for an argument so i bid u good day sir. PLUS ITS WAY CHEAPER THAN AN AUDI OR THE OTHER GERMAN COMPETITERS PLUS ITS GOT AN ELEGANT STYLE, CUZ SCANDINAVIANNESS

      Volvo V70 D4 e Summum Business E PRO = 38 000e - almost all equipment

    • @ImDembe
      @ImDembe 9 лет назад

      Wrong, they don't take it up in the review but the D4 is Volvos latest engine and way way way more economical than a D5, the old D4 was a detuned D5 more or less, this have more hp 180ish vs the old 165hp, 8 speed automatic and not the old 6 speed, 2liters and 4-cylinders and not 2.4 and 5-cylinders.

    • @THERUBBISHPCKID
      @THERUBBISHPCKID 9 лет назад +1

      Brunlera well no shit sherlock, the higher the number the more powerful, in my opinion like i said before the d5 is much better, its got decnt power, and volvo atm i believe are leading in engineering because they are focusing on the drive-e stuff which has the focus of more for less basically using smaller engines and using turbo and super chargers to get the power of a higher engine but with the economics of a lower engine like having a 4 cylinder mpg but with the power of a 5 cylinder. and i believe that current v70 d5 does 0-60 in 7.5 for auto and 7.3 for manual and around 50-55 mpg along with 215bhp and 400 turque. and i didnt even look that up

  • @sjh60633

    The line about the windscreen wipers being so sensitive to touch is utter rubbish. The car has the Volvo look and doesn't look the same like all the other seem to today. Really, it's hard to tell what is what amongst the Japanese and American cars these days.
