Had this car for 3 months now! Absolute dream to drive, so comfy and relaxing but got the power if you need it! So luxurious as well, never loved a car more.
I love the redesign Volvo has done. They’ve taken their previous style, and made it sharper and more aggressive without changing too much of the Volvo DNA, except the interior which is a giant improvement.
It's a nice comfortable family car. It's safe and has a great ride. Clearly not designed to be as sporty as a Mercedes or BMW rival. Sounds like Volvo did a great job to me. I never realised they gave so much as standard either.
@@ianhuds2206 BMW and Mercedes Benz cars are so common and basic especially in the UK. People will gloss over them unless they are an AMG or proper M badged car. The S90 is unique in that regard and perfect for someone desiring exclusivity.
@SwedenCam yep all true. German cars are highly sophisticated but require so much maintenance and have been over engineered, its beyond a joke. Japanese cars and Volvo are solid cars that can take a beating and keep moving forward. Volvo cars can be expensive though and if they’re mistreated or a bad egg, then be prepared to have to go to specialists rather than your average garage to get them properly sorted, at least in the UK. Can be expensive to put right and repair because support isn’t as common as German cars.
@SwedenCam Japanese cars are pretty good. Easy to work on, not over-engineered to an inch of their life like German cars. Obviously I can only comment on cars in the UK and LHD models. All the German cars like BMW, Audi and VW will struggle when it comes to knowledge. See it in the UK here all the time. You know more about the cars then the people selling them! But to be fair this can be said across all of the dealerships we have in the country for all brands. Mechanically speaking experiences vary. Some are good and decent and a lot are rubbish that use third party parts the same that independent garages use.

you cant say Volvo aren't trying. This is a great car, well priced, comfortable, smooth, futuristic and safe. Well done Volvo. I am very tempted to go back to Volvo from my current German competitor.
I love it. I really do. The new Geely-era Volvos are effing brilliant. The only thing I DON'T love about the XC90, S90 and V90 is the fact that those gigantic bonnets look like they house longitudinally mounted V8s, but in fact only contain a tiny 2.0l turbo four pot. Most of the bonnet is left empty, apparently for a safer crumple zone. I really wish Volvo uses this brand new flexible platform to make a compact crossover or hatchback. Or go bonkers like Tesla and make a AWD electric super saloon with an enormous boot and 'frunk'. "Maybe not quite as easy to use on the move as a swivel system you get in one of the German rivals.." xD Matt, please. Just say it already.
GongoLongo that’s got to be one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read. It’s still a Volvo it’s only assembled on China. More than half the shit you own is probably made in China. Again, idiotic comment from you.

That cubby space in the back is where the rear AC controller would sit when the car is equipped with 4-zone AC. Also, the Nappa leather seats come ventilated as well. I think these are the nappa contour seats.
£30,000 for a car in this segment is crazy. I have driven a Volvo last year and one thing that experience taught me with cars was to to never judge a car by the brand name. I drove the V40 and it was one of the most refined and comfortable cars I have driven.
I've never EVER had a cup in the car or a bottle in the side door. Yet cup holders and side door compartment seems to be the most important features in many car reviews. Forget about everything else, it has FIVE cup holders! Jiha.
If you can't afford a BMW 7er, Mercedes S Class or Audi A8, this is a great option, it won't have the ventilated or reclining rear seats but Volvo will eventually come out with a hybrid and Excellence as well to compete better with the German full size executives. So this is currently worth the price...
So why is it okay to use this touch screen while driving, but not your phone? I'm not advocating phone usage while driving, far from it, this just seems a bit of a distraction, perhaps more so than your phone.
You do not need to use a touch screen while driving. It's not possible to write or read SMS while driving. AC, navigation, a telephone can be used with voice.
Because it's a stupid law. In Sweden they've actually expanded it to prohibit any use of electronic device while driving. Probably were thinking of Ipads and the sorts but what about the touch screens! From now on almost every new car owner will become a criminal! Ha, ha, politicians...
The S90 has a talk button on the steering wheel that allows the driver to accomplish most tasks WITHOUT touching the center screen. Reviewers usually fail to point this out.
It's a Volvo - it's Swedish. It's designed to work and be comfortable. That's why it's not as sporty as some other cars yet it is one of the safest cars on the road. Hard to say this coming from a Finn but it's actually a good car.

Try putting it into "Sport Mode" and you'll find that it will change down instantly !! you obviously had it set to " Eco mode " or "Comfort Mode" think you should consider adding this to your video, many other testers on RUclips have shown the difference it can have on the driving experience, not only that but you failed to mention that a 235BHP version is also available (diesel) and probably in the near future the T6 with a 320 bhp petrol engine should be available in the UK, if that's not enough get up and go for you ? try the T8 version with 408 bhp, again due in the future, but available in other countries right now.
It has exactly the necessary features of a good luxury car. Not unnessary features like remote parking, reclining seats, gesture control etc. adding to the price.
Why you always review diesel engines? Is Diesel more common in the UK? I test drove the T6 here is the US, and I was really impressed, specially the interior.
You can lease one for £250 a month over 36 months based on 8,000 miles p.a.Leasing looks great value as a large Volvo will depreciate heavily if bought new.

Sorry, how do you know that 99% disagree??? There is no way to know... I for one have owned this car for a month (in the higher Inscription trim) and I bought it over the (tested) new e-class, new xf, 5s and a6 because overall I honestly think it's a step ahead (but I appreciate different people may have different design taste). When you considere design+ features, I actually think it's priced too cheap for what it is! You cannot see the level of the interior in the video, the aluminium in the dashborard (and on the switches) is superb. The higher trim also adds a lot of beautiful touches, including superb modern woodwork. The drive is extremely smooth and the direction very sharp (maybe sharpest fwd I've tried). The comfort of the seats is honestly unparalleled. Everyone I've driven have been speachless and it's a bit of a shame that in these reviews they focus on little things such as being able to slot in a bottle of water...Are you reviewing a ford Mondeo?? Better description of why a car like this is exceptional would have been more appropriate in my opinion. I think the feeling when driving/being driven is more like the one for a higher class car. As per features, it would take pages to describe... Unfortunately, the only inconvenience is that the car gets too much attention when refuelling or parking...
No pb at all. Unfortunately you're unlikely to see one of these on the road, I'vnt seen one apart mine. Apparently Volvo plan to provide only 400 to the UK this year, not sure they'll be able to provide more (evenknow the demand is definetely there). I think most people are biased toward germans, sometime only because of status (although Volvo is getting there now). I would say the only way to appreciate the S90 vs the competitors is to try it out and try the germans/Jaguar too if you dont know them. These reviews are misleading (this car is fast and the gearbox a delight, you can also drive it in dynamic mode if you wanted...). Some people will indeed prefer the E-class, XF or else. My humble but owner opinion is that the S90 is overall superior and make you feel very special.
I meant for the rest of this year. Projections are 2000 per year in the UK (www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-shows-detroit-motor-show/new-volvo-s90-2016-pricing-announced). I dont know in continental Europe, in the UK I've not seen one on the road yet. I prefer the look of the S90 compared to the V90, but that's my taste. Anyway.
+notformebeaky 4 or 5 on the road? I suspect you live in a nice and busy area ;-). I am not sure that having M5 or XFR equivalents in the Volvo range is necessary, but maybe this is what part of the customers are looking for, who knows...
notformebeaky Trying to rationalize, for me the styling is very important and I perceive the S90 an very beautiful car. It takes time to get used to the optic groups but their design is exquisite. On the other hand, the back of the E-class looks bad, and the 5-series is all around horrendous and the A6 has bland style. The XF is a very nice looking car, but lacks some distinctive details. From the point of practicality, the S90 has good space in the back seats and very practical boot, well all are good here. The materials and technology are top notch, and the interior design excellent. The driving dynamics are consistent with what Volvo stands for, with excellent and innovative diesel and petrol engine choices. In particular the T6 and T8 look very interesting. All around the S90 has no weaknesses, all competitors are quite good really but if you throw in a considerably better value, it's the best.
Not a fan of touchscreens, it's a shame that BMW is now starting to go that way. Fortunately they still have the hand controls in the center stack. Not a fan off the butt myself.
Why do all car testers think we want a car that drives and handles like a f1 car
Cuz they know us well!
Why not?
Absolutely agree with you! A plush, comfy ride ranks much higher in my books.

He finally reviewed it!!
I'd rather have the V90. I never liked the rear end of the S90 - however in white it actually looks quite good!
amazing, he actually got through the whole review without mentioning BMW's I drive.... kind of !
V90 would be my preferred choice. The S90 is still a very nice car though. But I wish they did it with the 2.4 D5 engine.
i didn't know it was possible to fall in love with a car, but i think i have :)
he checks the car with excitement of 5 year old kid . and love it
Can somebody remind why I recognize the background music starting @ 6:22? It's right at the tip of my tongue. Who is the musician?
I like how did made a review but than has sub reviews on the same year and model car super cool!!!
The perfect modern yet classic sedan
Not a fan of touchscreens, it's a shame that BMW is now starting to go that way. Fortunately they still have the hand controls in the center stack. Not a fan off the butt myself.
6:56 Sweden: VOLVO FOR LIFE !
thats a rare volvo safety oversight, no centre headrest
So what’s your verdict Mat? Shortlist it? Buy it?
You should do a review on the 455Hp version now
The back of the car deserved more then what it is… the front is an absolute killer
