I bought the e estate myself and it's almost identical to this one.
I also optioned the two rear facing xtra seats in the boot which gives it so much more flexibility on the school run, I don't think BMW or Volvo do that.
Great all rounder, wonderful over long distance, have done 600 miles in one day and it's great.
Only real disappointment is that it has so far over 20k miles only averaged 42mpg which is almost identical to what my 04 2.7 merc CLK averages!! Thought it might be better:/

I've had two 5s which I quite liked, then an E-class which while great to drive, the command system is a nightmare which after two years I was glad to see the back of. Have had a V90 for two months and it is the best of the three by a country mile. The interior is fabulous and the ride/handling way better than anything comparable. Engine the weakest of the three is a bit rattly at low speed. Kit is amazing. Boot has this flap device thing that when folded up secures numerous bags of shopping...Pilot assist/ACC is epic..thr app will do everything remotely and download business miles as an esv file etc..But bottom line is used V90 is several £1000 cheaper...

on the touch pad controller, you do not need to angle your arm or hand you can rest
it on the touch pad and when it notices your arm / hand resting on it, locks
the touch pad and you can use the controller with no issue at all. In addition you have the voice activation
system which I must say is definitely getting better and better. I have 5 - 6 Mercedes and all with the touch
pad and all current models so I am aware of how it works.

The infotainment is really easy and intuitive to use after spending a day with it.. on eco mode im averaging 46mpg URBAN! Stick it in sport+ now and ive managed 0-62 in 7 seconds... mid range (overtaking) acceleration is insane for such a big car and potentially frugal engine. Seriously impressive all-rounder.

that being said i dont have a newer volvo with new engines, i have the old real T6 engine package with 6 cylinders and turbo.. however based on chat with sale's man who sold me my XC70 because i wanted reliability but not an SUV...and he doesn't BS me because that's not his game plan.. he told me hasn't been any major failures he knows of from any of their customers any issues like with P3 are isolated..

The only thing that bonded with my Volvo was the repair shops. Spent a fortune keeping it on the road. Of the 10 months i owned it, it was in a repair shop for 4 months total. Not the same shop and not the same problem. Many shops and many problems. I had a runaway incident with the engine which lead to it seizing and i couldnt be happier. That gave me an excellent opportunity to buy a 2009 C220 CDI Estate instead which is a million miles better

Maybe the volvo gearbox is a bit slower to respond on everyday cars but I think it might be a good thing. If you not having a race car you really dont need a super kickdown gearbox. Its Quick enough. And because it slower it is smother and not a instant pressure on the gearbox which make them last incredible long. Many cars need to change their gearbox after a time, but I know lots of volvo cars that have driven over 400 000 km (216 000 miles)
Of course other cars can go that long with the same gearbox but I feel its more common for volvo. Mercedes is also long lasting cars althoug have falled back a little the past decade.

I was actually test driving Volvo and BMW - the two are not comparable. Volvo is soft and slow, swings on corners. Its autonomous system (pilot) works only up to 140 km/h while bmws up to 210! Also BMW system works while Volvo bounces off the lines several times and falls out into neighbouring line and probably crashes into a rail by the road...
Also - you could get 550d with 400 hp and 760 nm and dynamic drive system removing all that fluffy feeling on the corners... night drive, laser beams and several other fantastic and unique solutions. I bought one and will get it soon.
The merc is bigger but I get one when I retire (providing they do sth with the dials!!!)
