Not only that but you can make the argument that when hiccup is trying to be a Viking like the rest, she doesn’t care, she’s mocking him with the others, surprised/disappointed that he’s even trying
But the moment he starts showing who he really is, with toothless, and what he’s capable of beyond just “grow up to kill dragons,” she lightens up and shows who she really is as well

    • @SyzygyNoon
      @SyzygyNoon Год назад +8

The dragon _makes_ this movie. Could've been really lame but the people writing and animating it really looked into how animals think and behave and gave Toothless his own brand of intelligence and personality. He reminds me of my favorite cat I used to take care of; smart as hell, took care of herself and leading me on tours of the neighborhood like she was my chaperone. Toothless doesn't act like a person in a dragon suit, but he isn't one-note either; you can _see_ him thinking and piecing things together.
    They really nailed it.

Honestly, it makes sense to me for grown men to love a cartoon like this. Not only is it just an amazing series of stories, but I think these movies are great at showing men’s emotions, if that makes any sense. As in they don’t manifest quite the same way as women seem to think they should but they run deep. Stoic and Gobber clasping hands before running out to distract the alpha, Gobber giving Stoic advice, and that moment when Stoic has just disowned Hiccup and acted all tough but then steps outside and just reels from the effects of having done it. Just brilliant work. It’s like when Boromir dies… you wouldn’t be surprised to hear a muffled sob from a deep voice somewhere in the theater. In fact, I saw Fellowship in the theater twice and the second time I did, I in fact heard a deep muffled sob a few rows ahead. Fully understood.
Anyway, that’s my take as a woman with five brothers, assuming that makes me any kind of authority (it doesn’t).

Beautiful trilogy. Great score. The only movies to ever make me cry happy tears in each one. I still get choked up over many of the scenes in the movie.
The shared fish where Toothless gives him the bigger piece cause he thinks Hiccup needs the food more than he does.
The "You're not my son" line where as soon as Stoic walks out you can see by the body language he instantly regrets saying it.
The mutual smile between Astrid and Toothless right in the thick of the battle. It's like she says thank you and he says you're welcome with a simple gesture.
The shot where they are walking out at of his room at the end both being disabled.
The night fury whistle that scares everyone evolves into a playful noise by the end.
All those scenes get me every time.
So ssshhhhh, soak in the nuance bud ;) and yes watch all 3

Love the attention to detail with Toothless' animation. The little twitches when Hiccup goes for the tail; the blank face of wonder when he realizes something's being attached back there; the investigative side-eye and contemplation as he starts trying to move it.

Great movie. And the sequels are at least as good. So yeah, Mr. Video, you should definitely check both sequels out. You won't regret it.
And Stoick is a great character. Like the others, he has some great development *as* a character, more than most of the others. And he's got quite the singing voice, to boot!
But Gobber is probably my favorite character. I love that moment where he's talking with Stoick and he's drinking his ale and notices he lost his false tooth (a pebble!). The way he gently taps it back in with his mug-hand is a fun little moment! I wonder if his voice actor (comedian Craig Ferguson (check out his comedy special "Does This Need To Be Said", it's good fun, and even has a joke about Fabio)) had a hand in getting that moment put in. Like he pitched it to the animators, maybe.

One of my top movies of all time! I was born in the Chinese Dragon Year and love dragons - but this movie was just incredible. The story, voice acting, the beautiful animation and great soundtrack! I went to see it in the theater several times because they did it with the 3D glasses at the time and it was so great everytime :) More people need to see this movie (the next two in the trilogy are also gorgeous!) 🥰🐉🐉🐉🔥
