Fun fact: Toothless hesitating before he nuzzles into Hiccup's hand for the first time was actually an accident! The animating program the animators used glitched a bit, but when they realized how much depth it added to Toothless' character, they left it in :) Also, I think Toothless waiting a bit to reveal that Hiccup was alive was him being protective over Hiccup. He wanted to hear Stoick apologize and truly mean it so that he'd know never to take his son for granted again. Their bond is just incredible.
More fun fact, the scene where hiccup finds toothless in the woods, his eye being closed and then open after the wing passes over it is also an animation glitch, but they decided to keep it because they liked the creep factor
I think it helped add emotion to Toothless as a character. Put yourself in his shoes for a moment. You're handicapped, trapped, possibly hungry and definately scared. A human, who's kind has hunted and killed other dragons aproaches you with food, and shows empathy to you. He shows you his world (Hiccup drawing Toothless in the dirt) so you show him yours (Drawing a bunch of lines on the ground and turning it into a game of "Dont step on the cracks") Heck even before that, animals share their food with others whom they trust, when Toothless regurgitated half of the fish for Hiccup, Toothless was showing that he trusts Hiccup enough since he discarded his pocket knife. And their friendship blossoms from there. From the moment Hiccup frees Toothless from the trap, right until Toothless turns around to dive back into the flames to rescue Hiccup. You can start to understand why this film was nominated for an academy award.
@@larniieplayz6285 Yeah? Idk that's just the vibe I got, why else hesitate before revealing him? It seemed like there was a moment of reconciliation between Toothless and Stoick, you could just feel the tension between the two at the moment. Stoick, initially hating this beast, learns to care for him because his son cares for him. Then, all the sudden, his son is gone, and all that's left is the beast Stoick once despised. Instead of reacting with anger, he reacts with remorse, which Toothless seems to want out of him before revealing the fact that Hiccup is alive. I think part of it was Toothless's honest curiosity to how Stoick would react, because I, as well, remember being scared and unsure in the moment that Stoick would hurt or blame Toothless when watching the scene, and I think Toothless was wondering that as well and was putting him to the test

DreamWorks has so many seriously underrated movies. The How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is amazing! After you finish, you should watch other DreamWorks movies like Prince of Egypt and Spirit
i’ve never watched the 2d movies dreamworks made, but i’ve seen some scenes from Prince of Egypt and i was positively blown away. Megamind is also a really good and enjoyable movie!
This movie IS my favorite of all time. And I don't mean it the way of "oh I have a bunch of favorite movies", it's literally been my Favorite One since it came out in 2010 and never lost the spot even though I'm very picky with movies.
@@Welchy actually (i know this was a year ago) the score was actually done by a marching band! Not the usual orchestra that most movies soundtracks do. Hands down my favorite soundtrack of all time. I know it beat for beat every song ❤️
The "you just gestured at all of me" line just slays me everytime. It's a great line and delivered so well. It is really sad, too. About being unable to communicate and connect, but still damn funny.
11:21 this scene starts off with hiccups and tootheless’ themes playing individually, then as they fall they both play at the same time chaotically, once hiccup ditches that paper and they sync up just like their themes end up doing that’s why it feels so magical
As you say, it's using the score (which is amazing anyway) to reinforce the storytelling (which is pretty much genius). During "Forbidden Friendship", Toothless and Hiccup's themes (or leitmotifs) are sort-of dancing around each other while they size each other up, and during the training montage scenes, the leitmotifs start to mesh around the edges. "Test Drive" is where it all culminates - switching back and forth between Toothless and Hiccup's leitmotifs as each takes control, falling into dissonant and chromatic runs as they're falling, then when they rejoin and Hiccup throws away his "cheat sheet", both of their themes are in sync and equally audible. John Powell was robbed of that Oscar.
08:21 Pause and take a moment to look. I always missed this as a kid, but Toothless did draw him! Turn your head to the right if you don't see it, but there are 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth. The rest is hair.
@@PurpleLugia yup. Also the story takes place on the Hebrides Islands of what is now Scotland. During the Viking Age they were a Norse territory with a blended Norse and Celtic people.
My brain can't get around this, there's suddenly bunch of reactors who to this day have never seen How to Train Your Dragon and are all reacting to it now O.O This was my childhood, I have seen all the movies, specials, the series. I have seen everything that has come out so far and rewatch them at least once every year. Absolutely my favorite movie franchises ever! :D The story, animation, music, everything, it's so beautiful! So happy to see other people enjoy it too! ^^
Yes! I've rewatched EVERYTHING so many times. I have pretty much memorized most of the first movie script at this point and I can watch it in my head without honestly watching it for a while. It's the GREATEST EVER! So underrated!! I'm 20 now and it still makes me cry
"I've fallen in love with a cartoon dragon" Didn't we all? Honestly that "test drive" scene where he ditches the flight manual and learns to just trust Toothless is one of just a handful of scenes that I'd describe as cinematically perfect. These movies are my favourite animated films, even beat out Lion King IMO.
This movie has literally everything. The entire trilogy has really good lessons and messages mixed with a fantastic story, brilliant animation, and an absolutely stunning soundtrack.
It’s really overlooked because it’s considered a “kids movie” to most being no more than that, it’s such a shame because it has so many amazing life lessons to offer.
Hiccup just sounds generally North American, except when he was imitating his father, Stoick. Actually, all the Viking kids have a General American accent. The older Vikings, on the other hand, sound Irish/Scottish. So, to an extend, yes, you do sound like them. They did it on purpose.
@@Welchy once you have watched all of them I recommend watching the TV series. There are three of them (Riders of berk, Defenders of berk, Race to the edge) that all take place between 1 and 2 but watching the all the movies is recommended first.
This movie is indeed phenomenal and one of my all-time favorites. Everything about it is top-notch, especially the score. I've watched this movie dozens of times and I get chills every time. And yes, it's totally okay to be in love with a cartoon dragon. Toothless has that effect on people. :)
So the score in the scene where Hiccup and Toothless connect for the first time is called "Forbidden Friendship". And honestly, that scene still makes me emotional 11 years later. It's simply cinema magic.
”Fun” fact / headcanon / theory : most people don’t think about: Hiccup lost his foot bc Toothless MAYBE bit it when he tried to save Hiccup from the fire, Hiccups feet were closest to toothless so he prob bit his foot and pulled hiccup closer to protect him😊
This is just someone’s head cannon... and pretty sure it isn’t true. You can see toothless reaching his arms out to grab Hiccup not his mouth-his leg was most likely severely burned from the giant explosion
@@midnightwolf_13 Or crushed from the fall, despite being wrapped in Toothless' wings. Hiccup may have been "fireproof" in his wings, but falling from that height and having a possibly 300-500 pound dragon land on his ankle is more likely the culprit.
I love watching your movie reactions they are so refreshing. If you get a chance, would you consider doing a reaction to Treasure Planet? It's such an underrated disney movie and not many people react to it but it was one of my favourite disney movies when it came out.
I love the attention to detail put into animating Hiccup's expressions and mannerisms. They are somehow quite unique yet transparent and make him all the more sympathetic. E.g. his squirm of surprise after Toothless touched him at 8:30 or his moment of speechless fear at 18:16. So endearing! 🙂
These are my favorite animated movies EVER. I remember seeing an ad for the first one on TV when I was a pre-teen and not being very interested. I walked out of the theater absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how much I loved it.
14:23 CinemaTherapy's channel does a fantastic job of explaining how Stoick's reaction to basically disowning and shunning Hiccup after yelling at him in this scene (the fact that he looked deeply pained and took that step backwards and his breath hitched) is the ONLY reason the audience doesn't hate him forever. We know he's not evil, he's just a misguided, broken father who's doing his best to lead his people and be a single parent at the same time, the only way he knows how. The animators did a great job of putting that level of emotion in Stoick because if they hadn't, the audience would never have given him a chance to redeem himself. They also explain that Hiccup looks nothing like his father AT ALL, except for their eyes. Hiccup has his mother's face and a similar body frame to hers (slender and lanky) but Hiccup's eyes are the same as his father's.
I love this movie, now even more. My favorite scene was when Hiccup (not sure of the spelling) first flew Toothless and they were falling, 11:12 The way he threw the plan and relied on his reflexes is just amazing along with the score. Thank you so much for choosing to watch this.
So glad you're reacting to this movie! I love it so much! So many beautiful and heartwarming scenes! The scene of Hiccup reaching out his hand and Toothless nuzzling it has been replicated in many other movies since but hasn't lived up to this. Also, that was more of an exaggerated accent. So, yeah, you guys kinda sound like that, but not to that extreme. ...Unless I've not heard a more intense Scot accent? It's okay. We all fell in love with this animated dragon!' ;) Apparently, the animators fought about whether dragons should act more like cats or dogs. Your reaction at 16:40 is priceless, by the way.
Have you notice how excited stoick was when he said "with you doing so well in the arena,we finally have something to talk about" I don't think it was him loving hiccup all of a sudden because ability I think he just figured that hiccup would be doing so good if he didn't like fighting dragons, and he finally has something in common with his dad he can talk about Before, they couldn't be more different, and finding a topic to talk about with someone so different takes a lot of time. Time which stoick,as a chief, doesn't have He was so genuinely excited to have a real in depth conversation with his son.
When I saw this in theaters so long ago, the scene that stuck with me the most is Toothless going down into the flames after Hiccup. It's just beautiful.
For this, they actually brought in a live-action lighting director, and I believe that because of this movie, it actually became animation industry standard because it just looked SO good.
One of my favourite things about this movie is how some of the dragons' behavior was heavily inspired by housecats. Especially with Toothless mirroring, which if you didn't know its when they mimic an action that a creature they like does!!! Absolutely adorable :) Also: Toothless has like a very faint leopard pattern on his scales, this seems to only be in the first movie though
You had the exact same reaction i had as a kid watching the forbidden friendship scene. I loved this reaction, it felt like seeing a friend discover one of your favorite movies. Thank you for this video and much love from Italy❤️🇮🇹

I just found this and damn. this movie always hits me right in the soul. This trilogy is my favorite 3D animation. It really is wonderful. About Sharks, normally they only bite people because they're curious and have no hands, their mode of touching is biting, we're just fragile. Most sharks aren't even interested in the scent of human blood.
I simply love, love, LOVE watching you react to this most excellent movie! THANK you for sharing your heart with us! It is just a pleasure to watch sir. You are a beautiful human being.
Fun fact, DreamWorks was so worried about the audience’s reaction to Hiccup losing his foot that they showed it to a test audience before actually releasing the film. It was a big risk at the time the movie was released
I love how much they paid attention to the viking culture in this movie as well. The book of dragons with nordic runes and Stoic saying "Odin Help Us." Odin was the Chieftain King of the Gods in Norse mythology. Very similar position Zeus had in Greek mythology. The marvel Thor movies along with this series got me more into studying this culture then a few years later only to discover I have viking ancestry on my dad's side. I ride horses and my friends call me the "Hiccup" of their group lol. and I also love tinkering and building things as well like Hiccup did. Although I would love to learn to be a blacksmith. So glad you loved this movie! You should check out the animated series that follows the events between this and second movie. Highly enjoyable!
It was just so amazing to watch you appreciate everything and just get so into it emotionally. The music, the relationships. This will be my favourite movie series, I think, for ever and ever. I love the scene where we can see Stoic physically be hit with disowning his son. And again, THE MUSIC

Just finished watching your reaction to this, I knew you'd totally love it. I remember seeing it at the theater after it first came out and first thing I thought in seeing Toothless, was how he looked like my make Black cat, Tabou. ☺ I found out when they designed him they wanted him to look cat like but with dog tendencies. Which was great. I'm glad you loved it so much and like that it had 2 Scottish actors playing main roles. (I've been a long time fan of Gerry/ Gerard Butler's for like 20 yrs.) I found it funny they had ppl with all sorts of accents and non accents to of all things...play Vikings lol. Not sure my Norwegian/Swedish forefathers would like it,lol.😝😄 Guess they won't ever know lol. Btw...love hearing your accent and you're adorable. 😊 Looking fwd to checking out more of your film reactions.

Absolutely loved your reaction :))) Can't wait to see your reactions to the next 2 movies. This is one of the trilogies that just gets better and better.
I practically never see anyone comment on the "you're not my son" scene. That's what you're were doing, calling it complicated, yeah? You can see the immediate regret in his face, when Stoick walks out and staggers slightly. He loves his son, but he's the cheif and he loves his people too. In his mind, Hiccup is endangering everyone, so Stoick is only doing what he thinks his right. At this point in the movie, Stoick has been ashamed, surprised, proud, and afraid; he's been on a literal emotional roller coaster so it's not surprising that he'd just blurt out something so hurtful.
Me too! I saw it in the theater with family shortly after it came out, and I thought it was going to be a mediocre/annoying movie. So glad I was wrong! ☺️
Watching you react to this movie brought me back to the first time i ever saw it, all the emotions. So thank you for that! I hadn't seen so far anyone react as deeply as you did appreciating this movie as i did when it came out.

DreamWorks has so many seriously underrated movies. The How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is amazing! After you finish, you should watch other DreamWorks movies like Prince of Egypt and Spirit
Personally haven’t watched prince of Egypt yet but Spirit is my childhood!
And Kung Fu panda!
i’ve never watched the 2d movies dreamworks made, but i’ve seen some scenes from Prince of Egypt and i was positively blown away.
Megamind is also a really good and enjoyable movie!
And Sinbad! Sinbad was and still is one of my absolute favourite movies. It was my childhood.
@@Kiki-td8kz Yes! How can I forget about Sinbad!
My favourite animated movie of all time! The music gives me chills every time :)
the score is unbelievable, chills too!!!
This movie IS my favorite of all time. And I don't mean it the way of "oh I have a bunch of favorite movies", it's literally been my Favorite One since it came out in 2010 and never lost the spot even though I'm very picky with movies.
I agree, totally beautiful in every way.
OMG you right!!
Omg never noticed before, thanks!
Yeah I pointed that out to my cousin and she looked at me like I was crazy
He did his best XD
Omg I see it!
Your accent does sound kinda like theirs. Wich is a good thing btw, your accent is great.
That's because the kids being voiced by Americans aside, the two lead adults were voiced by Scottish men. :P
@@PurpleLugia yup. Also the story takes place on the Hebrides Islands of what is now Scotland. During the Viking Age they were a Norse territory with a blended Norse and Celtic people.
My brain can't get around this, there's suddenly bunch of reactors who to this day have never seen How to Train Your Dragon and are all reacting to it now O.O
This was my childhood, I have seen all the movies, specials, the series. I have seen everything that has come out so far and rewatch them at least once every year. Absolutely my favorite movie franchises ever! :D
The story, animation, music, everything, it's so beautiful!
@@frankiestein1713 I'm just turning 20 too and still crying for this x')))
Literally me and I love this movie and now so many ppl are reacting to it but hey I’m here for it
"I've fallen in love with a cartoon dragon"
Didn't we all?
Honestly that "test drive" scene where he ditches the flight manual and learns to just trust Toothless is one of just a handful of scenes that I'd describe as cinematically perfect. These movies are my favourite animated films, even beat out Lion King IMO.
The music is made by John Powell, the "most beautiful scene" score is called Forbidden Friendship! 😁🏴
I grew up listening to Forbidden Friendship on loop!
I never felt like it was a kids movie.
"I think we just saw the start of an amazing friendship"
Boy, you have no idea
"I just got goosebumps" EXACTY WHEN YOU ARE MEANT TO, WELL DONE SIR!
I wanted to ask what part it wasbut then I realized that almost the entire movie is goosebump worthy so i wont even bother asking.
It's ok to fall in love with a cartoon dragon, I did. John Powell is the composer.
Hiccup just sounds generally North American, except when he was imitating his father, Stoick. Actually, all the Viking kids have a General American accent.
The older Vikings, on the other hand, sound Irish/Scottish. So, to an extend, yes, you do sound like them. They did it on purpose.
Congratulations, you are the first person i have found who spelled Stoick's name right! xD
@@audreylynn7585 Ha ha. What an honour!
8:38 Same. Toothless remind me so much to my old black cat, the color of the eyes and everything, it's perfect and so beautiful.
The second would have to be my favorite! I am completely in love with these movies, and I am excited to see your reaction
Can’t wait! And thank you:)
@@Welchy once you have watched all of them I recommend watching the TV series. There are three of them (Riders of berk, Defenders of berk, Race to the edge) that all take place between 1 and 2 but watching the all the movies is recommended first.
"I've fallen in love with a cartoon, is that alright?" Everyone who has watched: We all have bud, no shame 😂
”Fun” fact / headcanon / theory : most people don’t think about: Hiccup lost his foot bc Toothless MAYBE bit it when he tried to save Hiccup from the fire, Hiccups feet were closest to toothless so he prob bit his foot and pulled hiccup closer to protect him😊
Oh wow..... cool😺
This is just someone’s head cannon... and pretty sure it isn’t true. You can see toothless reaching his arms out to grab Hiccup not his mouth-his leg was most likely severely burned from the giant explosion
That's a head canon, not a fact...
@@midnightwolf_13 Or crushed from the fall, despite being wrapped in Toothless' wings. Hiccup may have been "fireproof" in his wings, but falling from that height and having a possibly 300-500 pound dragon land on his ankle is more likely the culprit.
@@Adjel1 ooo yeah I didn't think of that, that makes even more sense
I love how calm hiccup is throughout toothless crazy riding with Astrid. Showing how much he trust toothless and how much of a daredevil he is.
I love watching your movie reactions they are so refreshing. If you get a chance, would you consider doing a reaction to Treasure Planet? It's such an underrated disney movie and not many people react to it but it was one of my favourite disney movies when it came out.
Thank you!! And I will soon :)
Adorable reaction! Bless your wee heart!
Hahaa thank you!
My favorite scene was when Hiccup (not sure of the spelling) first flew Toothless and they were falling, 11:12
The way he threw the plan and relied on his reflexes is just amazing along with the score.
Thank you so much for choosing to watch this.
I think the animation is still outstanding to this day.
ooooooohhhhh, so so so glad to see this pop up on my screen today. needed it. can’t wait to watch it tonight along with some food. :)
:D
great reaction! i’d do anything to watch this series for the first time again so i’m glad to see more people have that experience.
Thank you so much!!
The next two movies are somehow even better, the story never disappoints, please react to number 2 and 3!!!!
How bias are you?
Welchy: Beautiful. Beautiful
living for the fact you called a night fury the 'creme de la creme' of dragons
I absolutely loved your reaction, it’s everything I’ve ever thought about this movie! The visuals, the story, the soundtrack, everything is beautiful!
"Is it okay for me to fall in love with a cartoon dragon?"
Oh honey.
Have you notice how excited stoick was when he said "with you doing so well in the arena,we finally have something to talk about"
I don't think it was him loving hiccup all of a sudden because ability
I think he just figured that hiccup would be doing so good if he didn't like fighting dragons, and he finally has something in common with his dad he can talk about
Before, they couldn't be more different, and finding a topic to talk about with someone so different takes a lot of time. Time which stoick,as a chief, doesn't have
He was so genuinely excited to have a real in depth conversation with his son.
Honestly it is so awesome to see a youtuber growing like that. Only year and a half ago Welchy's subscribers grew more then 10 times. So awesome
Also, possibly the best soundtrack to anything ever. Except maybe Halo.
One of my favourite things about this movie is how some of the dragons' behavior was heavily inspired by housecats. Especially with Toothless mirroring, which if you didn't know its when they mimic an action that a creature they like does!!! Absolutely adorable :)
Also: Toothless has like a very faint leopard pattern on his scales, this seems to only be in the first movie though
9:01 the score is called Forbidden Friendship :). It's honestly my favorite from the soundtrack
You had the exact same reaction i had as a kid watching the forbidden friendship scene. I loved this reaction, it felt like seeing a friend discover one of your favorite movies. Thank you for this video and much love from Italy❤️🇮🇹
Lovely commentary. your appreciation for this movie's animation, story, characters, dialogue, and scores is very heart-warming.
Your reaction to the Forbidden Friendship scene made me click the subscribe button right then. It was a joy to see you discover this amazing movie. :)
This Animation is absolutely UNDERRATED.When i watch ur reaction i still cry even this is like 100th time watching this and I love ur reaction too! Gotta watch more ur VDO.
If you love this one, wait til the next one! 2nd is my fav out of the trilogy, which doesn't happen much! And stoic voiced by Gerard Butler :)
I simply love, love, LOVE watching you react to this most excellent movie! THANK you for sharing your heart with us! It is just a pleasure to watch sir. You are a beautiful human being.
“I just fell in love with a cartoon. Oh my god. Am I ok with that”. I’m paraphrasing but that had me laughing so hard 🤣. And I can completely relate
This series also introduced me to Sigor Ros, their music for the end credits is just so good
Fun fact, DreamWorks was so worried about the audience’s reaction to Hiccup losing his foot that they showed it to a test audience before actually releasing the film. It was a big risk at the time the movie was released
That scene when Toothless and Hiccup bond gets me emotional everytime I see it.
probably my favorate movie reaction i've seen. I love that you notice little details and things
This series of movies have my all time favorite music and scores.
This movie is my all time favourite, it's just pure awesomeness. The music, the beauty, everything
I love this movie and its sequel to death. Such great movies! I'm always happy to see other people enjoy one as well.
All 3 movies and the tv shows are awesome. I've shed many tears because of this series
@@melanithebooknerd I agree! The tv-shows were a blast!
You just refreshed my memory...loved watching it again with you welchy !

That’s such a good line in hindsight bc the soundtrack is called “Forbidden Friendship”
You do sound like that, kind of. I mean, that's a goofy, over the top, sarcastic impression, but there are little notes of reality to it.
It was just so amazing to watch you appreciate everything and just get so into it emotionally. The music, the relationships. This will be my favourite movie series, I think, for ever and ever. I love the scene where we can see Stoic physically be hit with disowning his son. And again, THE MUSIC
Watched this as my very first ever 3D movie at ten years old I believe....I'm 22 now and still feel the rush of emotions I felt back then! Pure Legendary work👏👏👏
i liked how much you liked the music as well! this movie, especially the forbidden friendship scene just makes my heart feel so much. btw your laugh is rlly cute!
your video is my favorite reaction to this movie! You appreciate and are taken aback by its beauty and I appreciate that so much! Thank you so much for this video!
I love Toothless is always like "Say sorry first"
I absolutely love the HTTYD movies. They are really some of my favorites
Sweet! I hope you do the 2nd and third ones soon too (and if/when you do them, avoid watching the trailers since they have major spoilers in them)!
BROO you’re gonna love this trilogy😆
This is one of my favourite trilogy’s, PLEASE upload the next parts ASAP!❤️😂
I’ve never wanted a pet as much as I want Toothless 🤣
You should really do more DreamWorks films, so many amazing ones!! Love HTTYD, every character is so loveable, even if they do lose their way sometimes. Wonderful reaction!
Yeey! My favourite trilogy!
This movie is perfect in my eyes and always be timeless!
Thanks for your reaction. It's one of my favorite films of all time but not all people appreciate just how special this movie is, so it's great to see that you do.
Absolutely loved your reaction :))) Can't wait to see your reactions to the next 2 movies. This is one of the trilogies that just gets better and better.
im just in love for the accent and the sarcasm in the recently videos, but just warchy loving this movie that its my favorite made my day
I practically never see anyone comment on the "you're not my son" scene.
At this point in the movie, Stoick has been ashamed, surprised, proud, and afraid; he's been on a literal emotional roller coaster so it's not surprising that he'd just blurt out something so hurtful.
i rember when i first watched it i thought it was going to be bad but i loved it!!
Me too! I saw it in the theater with family shortly after it came out, and I thought it was going to be a mediocre/annoying movie. So glad I was wrong! ☺️
omg you are so precious and you made me laugh, i really needed that, thank you
you have a new subscriber :)
Watching you react to this movie brought me back to the first time i ever saw it, all the emotions. So thank you for that! I hadn't seen so far anyone react as deeply as you did appreciating this movie as i did when it came out.
I am so glad this came up on my recommended, I love watching people react for the first time to some of my favorite movies!
Also, I feel like if you love this, you'll love Rise of the Guardians, which came out two years after.
When this came out my little pre teen heart watched it about million times in a row. Still loved it and named my cat after Hiccup 😂
This whole series is phenomenal and is to this day my absolute favorite series. Movies and tv series.
