The origin story is a riff on the Superman origin story and also a social commentary that your circumstances determine what you become and how the world sees you. - Megamind can take over Metro City that easily due to the cops acting out of learned helplessness. They're so used to Metro Man doing everything for them that in the face of a crisis they become utterly helpless. You can see this at the opening where two cops practice wildly irresponsible gun behaviour and shoot into the air, as well as in that scene where a cop has a gun trained on him and he's so utterly afraid of Megamind that Megamind can easily effectively disarm him. - The name Hal Stewart is a combination of Hal Jordan and John Stewart both prominent Green Lanterns. Hal is the original Green Lantern in the DCU. John Stewart was the Green Lantern used for the JLA and JLU cartoons. He's also African-American. - Hal is the Nice Guy trope before the Nice Guy trope was coined. - The relationship between Megamind and Metro Man is more líke the relationship between a Face and a Heel than anything directly antagonistic.
Hal was nothing but a creep from the start. Yeah a WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER for a party party suddenly its not a party its just you and me with some dip and q bounsey house. Which he lied about having just to get her to come over.
...brains... that first dialog Megamind and Metro Man have gets me everytime,, then it getting capped off with "Girls, girls! You're both pretty, can I go home?" I fell off the couch laughing
One thing i like about this movie, is how likable metro man becomes. They could have left him as this snobby superpowered guy but actually gave him depth. And the thing is, idk if this is stated in the movie or not, but he most likely likes music, _because_ he's bad at it/his superpowers don't influence it.
I love the relationship between Metro Man and Megamind. They let him be a genuinely nice guy who's path in life had also been determined by circumstances/expectations, and really he's happy to cheer Megamind on.
This movie is great. Yeah, you were confused by a few of the references since it’s supposed to be a Superman parody, with Roxane as Lois Lane and Megamind as Lex Luther and without having seen the 1974 Superman, and the general culture of Superman media that there is in the USA, some of the jokes might not land as well. Nice reaction!
Hoodwinked is the perfect next movie then. Its an amazing movie but the animation does not even come close to holding up now but thats one of the reasons I love it even more lmfao
Dude, even now Hoodwinked's humor holds up so well even if the animation was kind of bad even for the time it came out, my fam and I rewatch it every couple years and my dad's always cracking up at the singing goat bits.
It's one of those excellent movies that, like The Emperor's New Groove, didn't get the proper hype for its release, so barely anyone saw it, but they all loved it.
Megamind is a great movie! Too bad it got overshadowed by Despicable Me since it came out around the same time. Idk what people were thinking back in 2010, but a lot of em didn't like the movie for some reason- Also after many years Megamind is getting a series!
People didn't like it because they said Megamind was copying Despicable Me. They're both about a "villain's" transition into a hero and are parodies, but even despite those couple of similarities, they're too different for me to ever think they're "exactly alike," as some Despicable Me fans have said. Not only that, but Megamind came out only about four months after Despicable Me, and while I'm not an animator, I can almost guarantee you it takes much longer than that to make a movie that looks as good as either of them. It was just a coincidence that both studios had similar ideas at the same time that they wanted to try out. TL;DR: Megamind was hated on because Despicable Me fans thought it was copying DM. P.S. This is all gathered from my own personal experiences/research, so if there are any DM fans out there who didn't favor Megamind and want to give me logical reasoning behind that opinion, please, enlighten me so I can understand your side better.
I'm re-watching this again because I love this movie and your reaction to it and I've noticed something I hadn't before at 3:21-3:26. When Metro Man talks at the opening, you can tell he's putting on a show, like a rockstar at a concert or something, but in this moment he sounds and looks genuine, in the moment he says "I often ask myself: who would I be without you". Such brilliant foreshadowing! And then a man in the crowd yells he loves him and the cocky mask is back on. Oh well.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone's gone bankrupt once. I did actually manage to win legitimately once, which was through rolling a five, then the next turn two double fives and a ten right at the start. Given how everyone else proceeded to land on the railway stations at least once every lap the game lasted less than half an hour. So it does take some extraordinary luck.

A theory on why Megamind was just kept in prison since infancy: his own safety. If the prison gave him up, the government wold be the first to snatch up the alien life form that couldn't yet advocate for itself and disappear it into some underground lab forever. The warden and any other prison official who watched over him from the beginning probably realized that and did the best thing they could in the situation. As long as Megamind was under the prison's jurisdiction, the government couldn't touch him.

Megamind is definitely underrated! Loved that movie! For a bad movie recommendation I suggest Percy Jackson. Even if you’re not familiar with the original books (which make it almost unbearable) it’s still pretty bad. Loved this one! Just wanted to say if you ever read Percy Jackson, you'd probably have a lot of fun ripping apart the 2 Percy Jackson movies from like 10 years ago.
Don't remind me those exist. It's by far the worst "adaptation" I've ever seen. Like in the first movie they changed the entire plot to make it almost a one-off which doesn't make sense because they wanted to make a franchise but ruined the villain from the start.

He messaged another colleague, fully aware that she was dating. He just didn't care. I even agreed to go out with him once, but in my defence, I was drunk when I agreed. PS: Brains!!

love this film. one of the best modern interpretations of cyrano de bergerac ever warning for cyrano spoilers the way megamind is just so happy at the end. his entire life he was hated and his luck was constantly in the gutter. he fully deserved his happy ending. I'm normally a little antsy when cyrano interpretations end happily; the whole story of cyrano de bergerac was intended to be a tragedy. cyrano dies at the end. the man he impersonates dies (in most versions). roxanne doesn't find out how much he loves her and vice versa until it's too late. but megamind? megamind is maybe the only one that does an alternate ending right. it would hurt too much if he failed, especially for a movie that kids would be watching - though i hardly think you could call it strictly a kids' movie - and it's obvious it isn't supposed to be an exact interpretation of cyrano de bergerac. you're hoping throughout the whole movie that megamind can get what he wants, what he deserves, which is to finally be treated with respect - and when he gets that, it just feels SO good. like, hell yeah! he got the girl! he beat the bad guy! he did everything we knew he could. and I LOVE this film for that. I recommend watching some interpretations of cyrano de bergerac. it may be a little different to what you're used to (cyrano isn't actually an alien - he has an incredibly long nose!) but it's worth seeing and DEFINITELY worth thinking about. it took me years to realise that roxanne was roxane, megamind was cyrano de bergerac, the librarian was christian de neuvilette, metroman was valvert... but once you see it, it's hard to unsee! sorry for the sudden rambling, I'm just a nerd for this kind of thing haha. thanks to whoever read all of this :')

Also, the police did nothing to stop Megamind, because he had his robot army with him.
@@schwarzerritter5724 All their probkems with Megamindcould be solved with a high-powered sniper rifle.
@@nielsjensen4185 You are not going to stop the robots from tearing your city apart with one sniper rifle.
@@schwarzerritter5724 That is correct. You can stop Megamind from breathing though and he's too much of a showman to have a Dead Man's Switch.
@@nielsjensen4185 Sure, but they don't know he doe snot have a dead man's switch.

Absolute banger of a movie, and hands down one of your best reactions. I am cackling like a madman
Thank you legend!
@@Welchy I am reading this with your accent
...brains... that first dialog Megamind and Metro Man have gets me everytime,, then it getting capped off with "Girls, girls!
Welchy: “this honestly feels like a parody”
Me: That’s Dreamworks
19:58 "oh my God. I've just been finessed."
Honestly, was basically me the whole movie when I first watched it XD
This movie is great. Yeah, you were confused by a few of the references since it’s supposed to be a Superman parody, with Roxane as Lois Lane and Megamind as Lex Luther and without having seen the 1974 Superman, and the general culture of Superman media that there is in the USA, some of the jokes might not land as well. Nice reaction!
I’ve never watched superman or anything like that hahaha but thank you Brian :D
Megamind is actually a parody of Brainiac, not Lex Luthor.
Welchy being 24 but actually calling himself 23 because he hasn't unconsciously registered he's older 1:00
Hoodwinked is the perfect next movie then. Its an amazing movie but the animation does not even come close to holding up now but thats one of the reasons I love it even more lmfao
Hoodwinked is SOOOO good!
The first one was fun for sure:)
I expected nothing of Hoodwinked, because of the art style wand was positively surprised.
Dude, even now Hoodwinked's humor holds up so well even if the animation was kind of bad even for the time it came out, my fam and I rewatch it every couple years and my dad's always cracking up at the singing goat bits.
Megamind is a underrated masterpiece is what everyone I have talked about megamind has said but it is still underrated somehow
It's one of those excellent movies that, like The Emperor's New Groove, didn't get the proper hype for its release, so barely anyone saw it, but they all loved it.
nowadays it's getting the love it deserves, but at release, critics were calling it a despicable me rip-off
Megamind is a great movie! Too bad it got overshadowed by Despicable Me since it came out around the same time.
Idk what people were thinking back in 2010, but a lot of em didn't like the movie for some reason- Also after many years Megamind is getting a series!
Ugh that makes me so angry
Wait wat? Really? When✨👀
God I remember seeing this in theaters and ever since then its had a place in my heart
I watched both as a kid and found them both meh but as an adult I’m absolutely obsessed with Megamind.
5:08 i love how his jaw just *drops* in time with the music
"And there is no Queen of England".
I feel like that would be especially funny to a Scottish person lol
I'm re-watching this again because I love this movie and your reaction to it and I've noticed something I hadn't before at 3:21-3:26. When Metro Man talks at the opening, you can tell he's putting on a show, like a rockstar at a concert or something, but in this moment he sounds and looks genuine, in the moment he says "I often ask myself: who would I be without you". Such brilliant foreshadowing! And then a man in the crowd yells he loves him and the cocky mask is back on. Oh well.
After having a really shitty day this reaction has made me smile so thank you! And you're right, this movie is very underrated and is FANTASTIC!
wow i remember just last year you were watching tangled and celebrating your birthday and this year we get megamind, you’ve really come full circle watching the best movies for your birthdays haha, happy birthday welchy!
Ayyy you an og! Appreciate you :D

Does one person emptying the bank while declaring himself the winner because he’s overthrown the capitalist system, while everyone else drunkenly throws pieces at him count as finishing the game? If so, yes, I was involved in a finished game once. Brains.
I lost The Game once 😔
@@Myrathosghost Ah, now we've all lost it.
no many people know but this is the True Ending of monopoly
Yeah, I'm sure everyone's gone bankrupt once. I did actually manage to win legitimately once, which was through rolling a five, then the next turn two double fives and a ten right at the start. Given how everyone else proceeded to land on the railway stations at least once every lap the game lasted less than half an hour. So it does take some extraordinary luck.
Only one person who plays Monopoly can have fun. The name of the game is literally Monopoly. If everyone was meant to have fun then the game would be called Socialism.
In terms of churros, I find that the best ones actually have filling in them! Like the mini churros from Jack in the Box! However, when last I was at Disneyland, they actually had different kinds of churros other than the regular cinnamon sugar ones, so maybe you just don't like the cinnamon sugar ones.
But, yeah, dipping them in sauce sounds like it would be amazing too!
When ppl try to criticize the copper Boulder moment saying he should move to the side, do they not noticed the subway entrance that he entered? Plus this is a better idea cause if you move to the side, Hal can still see you and thus will keep trying to kill you.

Glad you covered this movie, I really love Megamind, it's genius and hilarious and full of meme material, 10/10 lol
This movie came out on my birthday so I really wanted to go see it in theaters but my mom couldn’t take me. I ended up watching it on DVD when it came out and loving it. One of my favorite movies.
It’s cool you watched it on your birthday! Happy Birthday!
I have actually seen the end of a monopoly game, the other 2 players went bankrupt and were out of properties.

the fact that this was posted on MY birthday is wild. This is one of my favorite movies as well. Coincidence?? I think NOT

Brains.
I'm so happy that people are now getting to appreciate this movie, I grew up watching this fine peace of art and no matter how many times I watch it I never get tired of it. But it's also sad that it took this long for the attraction, because I'm pretty sure the studio behind is now gone and they have a lot of great films but yet again, another one bites the dust...
This is one of those "evergreen" movies for me, where it doesn't matter how many times I watch it or how it's gotten. I will still thoroughly enjoy it. It was extremely fun watching you experience this gem for the first time!
"There is no Easter Bunny.
There is no Tooth Fairy.
And there is no Queen of England."
Hits differently now that the Queen is actually gone. As in the sad kinda different.
"i know everything about you"

Okay but seriously, this movie deserves way more than people give it credit for. It was released alongside "Despicable Me", so people didn't pay it a lot of mega-mind (if you caught my bad pun, congratulations 😌😂).

Megamind is definitely underrated! Loved that movie! For a bad movie recommendation I suggest Percy Jackson. Even if you’re not familiar with the original books (which make it almost unbearable) it’s still pretty bad. It’s definitely up there with The Last Airbender in my worst movie adaptations of all time.
The Last Airbender, Percy Jackson, Eragon, and Artemis Fowl are the standard by which all bad adaptations are measured. 😂😭
I thought Percy Jackson was fine at first but in saying that I didn't read the books the first time around and after reading them all I saw were things that they changed and didn't like it as much.
What movie? The Percy Jackson. Obie does not exist

I had until recently had to work with a "nice guy". He somehow tried to be overly friendly with everyone, but still had an air of superiority about him. He was a major CREEP. He'd message all the girls who worked where I am, when he's own girlfriend was asleep, including me, knowing that I was in the bath, asking what bubble bath I was using. He messaged another colleague, fully aware that she was dating. He just didn't care. I even agreed to go out with him once, but in my defence, I was drunk when I agreed.

I honestly thought the video games that they made for this movie were pretty good too.
I played the DS game and the Wii game for it. Definitely should have made a sequel revolving the story of that megamind being the new defender of metro city against the Doom syndicate

How about a reaction on "Gargoyles: the awakening" - it's 90s animated movie (and start of a tv show)? Interesting plot - more suitable for Hollywood action blockbuster than a kid's movie.

YES! That'd be interesting to see because I LOVE that series! ^^
Yo! It's my birthday too! Happy birthday dude!
love this film. one of the best modern interpretations of cyrano de bergerac ever
warning for cyrano spoilers
the way megamind is just so happy at the end. his entire life he was hated and his luck was constantly in the gutter. he fully deserved his happy ending.
