The joke she makes about the restaurant owner being a vampire and wanting her to join his legion of the undead and Lilo saying "I knew it" also tells us she knows her sister is weird and can relate things in a way Lilo would get something most people wouldn't,hence the other girls not liking her.

When she sings Aloha Oe to Lilo the night before their family is going to be separated by the government has me in tears every time.
Literally meaning "Farewell to Thee" it was written by Queen Lili'uokalani, the last indigenous ruler of Hawaii before it would be taken over by the US in 1898. As was sadly common at the time, the native people were separated and treated terribly.

Also originally Stitch and Lilo went to the beach to scream "If you heart that alarm it means a tsunami is coning" and when it alarms all the tourists run away in fear (this was actually the scene which was replaced with Stitch dressing as Elvis)

Same reason for Nanis comment about the "fakey luau".
That's actually what Hawaians had to do when the western culture took over. A luau was a sacred practice until the westerners took the concept and had the audacity to change it into a time to stuff your face with food and put on grass skirts and coconut bras and dance the hula, and when they had these events, they didn't even let actual Hawaiian people in.
So to make money to take care of themselves, the Hawaiians were hired to work in these disgraceful events to clean up after the tourists like slaves only to make less than a buck.
The worst part? This is STILL happening.
Disney seriously did their research on that.

  • @GolyenHighway

Lilo feeding Pudge is actually a big thing most people overlook. There is a Hawaiian legend/myth about a god/demi-god who controls storms & takes the form of a fish. If you also notice, Pudge is different from the other fish in the area. Lilo has a very vested interest in keeping him happy enough to not cause the storms to take other peoples families.

This movie had so many cutscenes and different versions. The biggest change was the spaceship chase where they originally hijacked a plane and flied through the city.
You can guess when it was removed and replaced by the current one. (They had to redo the entire scene in a few weeks or months before the release)

yup, prior to 9/11 the final showdown was going to be in a big city with lots of tall buildings but instead the spaceship chase was changed to be in the natural (isolated) landscape of Hawaii due to the current events of the time. for anyone who doesn’t know cuz they’re too young or just not American, 9/11 was the worst attack on American soil since the attack on pearl harbor during ww2 and it involved two planes being hijacked and being flown into the twin towers in New York (which is known for their massive tall buildings and sky scrapers)

I know some people don't understand Lilo, because she acts weird. But that's because Lilo has suffered loss. She's trying to find her way while she is lost and still a kid.
I was child when my parents divorced and that had a great affect on me. (I acted weird, too) I can't imagine what Lilo is gowing through with both her parents dying and her sister taking care of her.
Her home situation isn't perfect, but they are trying to figure it out.
It's really sad, if you pay close attention to Lilo throughout the movie you can really tell she's trying to process a bunch of stuff, which she can't express that well at her age, so it makes her 'do weird things.' Like make her own doll, putting things in jar with juice, or lashing out by hitting another kid. The girl called her crazy, but she's not. She's going through a lot!

Edit: There's an alternate deleted version of the house fight between Jumba and Stitch. It was deleted because it was WAAAAAY too violent. They changed it because it made BOTH Stitch and Jumba look like psychothic monsters

Both he and the voice actress for Nani are from Hawai'i. Fun fact about the song Nani sings to Lilo the day before Lilo would be taken away:
It was a song written by the last queen of Hawaii and basically translates to "Farewell to thee.". It was written when Hawaii was about to become part of the United States.
Similarly, the opening song once the narrative gets to earth is a song dedicated to the last queen of Hawaii.

In the series, with all the other 625 experiments getting released on earth, 1 of those experiments looks exactly like a Shih Tzu dog that can talk(though that isn't seen until Leroy & Stitch movie). Anyway, Lilo basically takes on the task of reforming and finding homes for each experiment, and Myrtle gets the Shih Tzu-looking experiment that is indistinguishable from a normal dog(aside from talking) and basically puts it in dog shows. Myrtle actually dotes on that experiment(without knowing what it actually is until Leroy & Stitch) like you wouldn't believe so she isn't really a cat person(at least not entirely), and she still dotes on it after find out it's actually an alien creature.

Many fans have revisited Lilo and Stitch and noticed that its emotional depth, while heartwarming, also carries a significant amount of sadness. The themes of loneliness, loss, and finding family are central to the story, and this can make certain moments feel quite heavy.
For many, the film resonates deeply due to its portrayal of real-life struggles, like the loss of a parent and the challenges of being different. The emotional weight adds to its charm, making it more than just a typical animated movie. It's interesting how childhood favorites often have layers that we may not fully appreciate until we grow older, allowing us to connect with the story on a deeper level. Lilo and Stitch is a perfect example of a film that balances humor and sadness, making it a poignant watch for audiences of all ages.
If you’re looking for a more meaningful discussion in a RUclips comment, you might say something like:
"Rewatching Lilo and Stitch as an adult really opened my eyes to just how layered this film is. I remember it as a fun, quirky adventure as a kid, but now I see the deeper themes of loss, longing, and the search for belonging. Lilo’s struggles and Stitch’s journey reflect so many real emotions that make the film resonate on a different level. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Disney really nailed it with the balance of humor and heartfelt moments, making it a timeless classic.”

Hi, I'm an Italian girl and here in Italy the most snubbed Disney movies, even if I personally love them, are "koda brother bear", "hercules", "atlantis" and just because he's a certain age "the aristocats".
P.s.: I don't know the reason why, but in Italy Thomas O'Malley the street cat has become Romeo, a Roman cat who speaks with the Roman dialect and everyone in my generation loves him like that.

I'm extremely similar to Lilo because I live with Autism and I've been eccentric since I was little like her. I had no friends until I was in my late teens, and the only family I've got in San Diego, where I live, is my mom and our two dogs. The rest of my relatives live in Chicago. My mom and I have a similar relationship to Lilo and Nani.
She adopted me when I was a baby, as well, and the concept of being taken away by a social worker scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. (Never mind that my mom used to be a social worker herself.)
My mom was married when I was growing up, but about 5 years ago her ex filed for divorce and it's still going on. He left us when I was about 14 and continues to abuse us from a distance. He's revealed himself to be a waste of space and flesh, and he's a narcissistic, greedy master manipulator. I grew up loving him as my dad, so this betrayal felt like my parent died. Like Lilo, I remember everyone in my life who leaves or hurts me, even if it's just the illusion of the person I thought they were... It doesn't mean my love for them and relationship with them wasn't real.
