stitch isn't Lilos sister. also, Lilos actual sister is abusive af lol but jokes aside, the point of the sisterly love thing was more about taking the true love thing and saying that family love should also be in that category when breaking spells in stories. Lilo and Stitch is just about family sticking together. Im sure everyone knows the saying in Lilo and Stitch, yet no one thought Frozen would use sisterly love to break a spell. That's the difference. Lilo and stitch aint about true love nor sisterly love. It's about family (and abuse apparently XD)
frozen was a better movie about healing your own trauma and relationship with your family at the same time. but lilo and stitch was about sisters persevering together. slightly different, but both were great
it's been almost two years and i know no one is gonna read this but if you look at the scene in Nani's room, she has a bunch of surfing trophies. It's theorized that she was going to become a professional surfer, but when their parents died she had to give it up to support Lilo. It's just a heart breaking background detail about Nani that i love.
The running theory I've heard is that Lilo's parents died in a car crash due to a storm the one day Lilo didn't take Pudge the fish a sandwich. Lilo, being a kid, took that to mean Pudge controls the weather, and that it was her fault for the storm. This also explains why Myrtle's "you're crazy" comment caused such a dramatic reaction from Lilo - it wasn't just a mild insult, it was a direct insult to her for her method of coping with her parents' death.
Wasn’t this actually an official idea? There was official art of this scene but the writer’s cut it out because it was either too long and would deter it away from the character interactions or simply it was too sad to put in
“This is my family, I found it all on my own, it’s little and broken, but still good...Yeah still good.” This gets me in the feels every time I hear it.
Lilo and Stitch hit different as an adult because you understand the pain, lost, existential fear, and determination of Lani to keep her sister from going into the system while sacrificing her wants and needs and the trauma Lilo has from losing her parents. And Stitch wanting a family and becoming more sentient.
Seriously. I loved this movie as a kid - never cried always just happy. Watched in on Christmas Eve while on vacation in Hawaii as an adult and sobbed my eyes out…the fact that they were trying to take lilo away forever just never registered as a kid
Lilo probably consider Elvis a model citizen because that's her dad's favorite singer. If you look at the photo of her family, her dad's playing a guitar. Probably sang to lilo his favorite elvis songs. Why she's obsessed with elvis
Actually it was a bad weather the day she couldn’t feed pudge, and she thinks that’s the reason her parents die, she kinda blames herself and that’s why she keeps feeding him, so it doesn’t happen again
Nani and Lilo's parents died in a car accident during a rain storm. That's why Lilo brings Pudge a PB sandwich every week. Pudge controls the weather. "Lilo" means "broken" in Hawaiian. And Lilo needed a Stitch 😭❤ I love this movie so much. It came out when my little sister was 3 and made her obsessed with Elvis Presley. And the way Nani and Lilo fight is totally how I fight with my sister. We are 13 years apart. When I'm upset about something or I'm missing home and my sister my husband will put on Lilo and Stitch.
I believe she also didnt bring Pudge a sandwich the day her parents died, so she feels guilty? I could be wrong. it has been a while since i researched about this movie

Some things to note: Leis are a symbol of love in Hawaiian culture, so when Stitch is acting crazy and she puts a Lei on him, she is calming him with her love. Nani was only 19 years old. Her relationship with Lilo, and her struggle to keep the fragments of her family together, are what make the movie so heartbreaking. She gave up any future she had to keep her sister out of the system. Stitch's entire arc is the Ugly Duckling. Before the two pages, a swan egg hatches with a brood of ducklings accidentally. The swan grows up thinking it's a very ugly duckling, and that's why it looks different. The swan then gets lost and finds its true family. Stitch was born in chaos and evil. He finds his Swan family with Lilo and Nani, and he slowly realizes who he is and where he belongs.
I actually read something that talked about how Nani, in her room, has trophies from surfing. She was shown to be amazing at surfing. Maybe that’s a dream she had to give up to raise Lilo. On top of that she is trying to give Lilo the best life she can! AND she even ditches her crush to be there for Lilo. She is most likely just out of high school and she had to deal with the loss of her parents and the loss of her childhood and freedom because she now has to raise her baby sister!

Aside from the aliens, Lilo and Stitch is legitimately one of the most real stories to come out from Disney. One of my little sisters is so much like Lilo, and she has an emotional support guinea pig that she named Ohana because "Nobody gets left behind or forgotten." Everyone needs a Stitch in their life.
Fun fact, in our Polynesian language, LILO means to give up or lost... it gives a more symbolic meaning to “stitch” and the meaning of the film as a whole
18:50 There are packs of wolves in populated areas of Russia that deliberately send their cute pups into towns to beg for food. It goes against all instinct, but they know humans feed cute, non-threatening animals, so the rest of the pack stays back while the pups (and smaller, grown wolves) gather food scraps for the whole pack. The big, scary wolves hunt when they can, of course, but they do what they have to. Yes, animals know exactly what they’re doing.
I was like that. When i watched this movie for the first time in Disney Channel, I started watching it when Lilo and Stitch meet together instead of waiting that first act
Lilo really is one of the best kid characters in movies. She feels so accurate. They’re rambunctious and obsessive and loud and weird and operate on their own logic.
Fun Fact: The name “Lilo” can be interpreted as meaning “lost”. The meaning of “Stitch” is obvious, to stitch something to pull it back together. So Lilo and Stitch could be interpreted as “Lost and pulled/put back together”
you skipped my favorite line lilo: did you lose you’re job because of stitch and me? nani: Nah. the manager’s a vampire. he wanted me to join his legion of the undead. lilo: *whispers* i knew it
Ive seen a lot of people bring up the thing about pudge controlling the weather and Lilo thinking she caused her parents death, but not as many people bring up another sad backstory that's a bit related. When stitch is leaving she says she remembers everyone who leaves while looking at tge picture of her parents, and she is always taking pictures of the tourists. She takes pictures to remember people because everyone she meets is always leaving because theyre tourists and eventually their vacation ends, so she constantly being abandoned by people. She wants to keep the memories of everyone because even her parents left, and she only has 1 picture to remember them by, which is why shes so protective of the picture when Stitch grabs it, and she doesnt want to only have 1 picture to remember someone by again, so takes pictures of everyone. I also think thats why she is trying so hard to be friends with the mean little girls, because theyre the only ones that live there and wont leave. In an episode of the T.V. show theres a new little girl that shows up and tries to be friends with Lilo, but Lilo says she cant because she'll leave soon. Luckily the little girl moved there so they do become friends, but it just adds another level of sadness to this movie, and backstory.
Honestly, so many Dreamworks movies deserve commentaries, especially the forgotten gems like "Spirit" or "Road to El Dorado" And obvs HttYD & RotG Dreamworks doesn't get as much love as Disney/Pixar animation, their films are so under-rated //=
Let’s be honest, the Lilo & Stitch movie is absolutely brilliant and captivating to watch for all ages. Whoever doesn’t cry at least once while watching it must be absolutely heartless
Lilo's parents died in a storm, which really gives the scene where Lilo beats up the girl a new perspective because her mind as a child put the fact that Pudge the fish controls the weather and if she doesn't feed him a peanut butter sandwich, Pudge will get upset and cause another storm.
Me as a kid: Ewww Nani is so mean and strict for no reason! Me as an adult: Nani, you're doing great, sweety! We see the effort you're putting into trying to make this family work
God, I love this movie so much. Always had, and as an adult, I appreciate it even more, especially Nani. When I was 18/19, my brother was 11, older than Lilo, but the thought of losing both my parents and having to suddenly be the sole provider and care taker of my little brother really is terrifying. I'd do it, because I love him, but I can only imagine the stress. Giving up your dreams, taking jobs whenever possible, trying to raise a kid right, and not being able to have the time to grieve that you also lost your parents. Nani is a queen.
No deadass. My little sister is 16 turning 17 now but when I was younger the thought of that scared the crappp out of me. Realistically though I have a lot of family that would never let that happen luckily. But still Nani is a role model frrr
@@ayannabranchcomb7535 oh definitely, even now with my little bro being 16, the thought of losing both parents is still brutal and terrifying as an older sibling. We'd probably have to move because we don't have family in this location. Maybe having to sell the house because of the cost to keep it might overwhelm me, having to leave behind those memories. Move to another state or country depending on which family member can take us in because I wouldn't want to leave my brother on his own. I thank God that I still my parents, and I hope they stay while.

Lmao but saliva does actually work like that.😂
*She gives Pudge the sandwiches because he controls the weather and Lilo’s parents died when it was rainy* 😭
Bro, I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BUT IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!
Her parents died when she forgot to feed pudge. That’s why she feels the need to feed pudge.
AdwoaKSA or she began to feed pudge when her parents died so that others won’t die the same way
I learned this fairly recently and it broke my heart I'm still crying😭
AHHHHHHH😭😭😭
"Pudge controls the weather."
"It was rainy...and they went for a drive..."
Ouch, Disney. That hurts.
It was even foreshadowed--when she said "Pudge controls the weather", all the adults in the room were like "oh...that's what this is about..."
In lilo and stitch the series it's shown that pudge actually does control the weather so she was right
It also explains why Lilo attacked Myrtle for saying she was crazy.
Oh damn no wonder why she attacked the girl
She explains that it's every Tuesday
“Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” This has to be one of the best and most beautiful quotes.

For the love of God Disney, NEVER live action this film!

they're already working on it....
Fun fact, in our Polynesian language, LILO means to give up or lost... it gives a more symbolic meaning to “stitch” and the meaning of the film as a whole
I love how this went from Lilo and Stitch to Elvis Presley's dark past and Iowa facts.
the duality of man
18:50 There are packs of wolves in populated areas of Russia that deliberately send their cute pups into towns to beg for food.
This made my night.
I'm stunned. I'll google it right now! Wow. Just wow.💘💘💘💘🙊🙊🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I always say animals are the ones domesticating us.
Also, we’re more predictable than we think.
But I’m also glad the wolves are getting food!
wait whattttt
finally something about russia but not about bears!

Dylan: “IM A PROFESSIONAL MOVIE WATCHER!”
And he's already watched this one.
it’s weird rewatching childhood movies as an adult bc i can UNDERSTAND what’s happening. that first scene meant nothing to me as a kid
Literally me! I always skipped that part 😅

So Lilo and Stitch could be interpreted as “Lost and pulled/put back together”
okay wow :(
Cool I'm crying
I'm not crying! You're crying!

😂 yeah man, I was shook
also "i'm no botanist" ...... oh dylan
I’m mean he’s technically not wrong. When they do testing like that they’re actually using the person’s cheek cells that are suspended in the saliva.
Luckily the little girl moved there so they do become friends, but it just adds another level of sadness to this movie, and backstory.
lilo: "Beats another girl up"
Dylan: Isn't Lilo the best?
Even though Shrek isn't Disney it still deserves a movie commentary

Lilo's parents died in a storm, which really gives the scene where Lilo beats up the girl a new perspective because her mind as a child put the fact that Pudge the fish controls the weather and if she doesn't feed him a peanut butter sandwich, Pudge will get upset and cause another storm.

Especially when you see all the surfing awards in her room. The theory is she could have gone pro but had to retire to take care of Lilo.
