Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie all struggle with feeling trapped in one way or another. Aladdin is trapped in his self-concept and social status, Jasmine is trapped physically in the palace and by the governing laws, and Genie is trapped in servitude and physically in the lamp for millenia. The ultimate way they share their feelings of being trapped though is through not being seen as valuable for their character/personhood until they build their bonds between them which is actually quite deep. I really like this theme since it's so universal.
It could even be argued that Jafar feels trapped within his own social position, being ever so slightly shy of the amount of power he desires. He’s a reflection of how desperation, ‘imprisonment’ (metaphorically), and negative self perception can literally drive a person mad; a fun foil to Aladdin in particular, who manages to overcome these obstacles.
I think everyone Dylan is attracted to kinda looks like him. Jafar has a long face with a big smile like he does. Yet, Dylan also looks like Flynn Ryder with Harry Potter glasses.

Part of the negative depictions that they mention in the text at the beginning is that in the original lyrics of “Arabian Nights” one of the lyrics is “where they cut off your hand if they don’t like your face” The merchant at the beginning is voiced by Robin Williams. A common theory is that the merchant is the genie because Robin voiced both, they are the only characters with only 4 fingers, and the merchant is wearing blue with red around his waist. The theory was proven recently by an employee who worked on Aladdin who shared a deleted scene where the merchant transformed into the genie The voice actor for Jafar plays Jafar in Broadway
There's also the line "it's barbaric but, hey, it's home." I think it used to be permanently removed from the film, but for some reason they decided to put it back in and leave that disclaimer instead
@@onaarchie6837 I don’t see how that line is a bad line, pretty much any kingdom in the earlier times was considered barbaric, what with Greeks roasting people alive in bronze bulls, Romans crucifying people, Europeans inventing hundreds of new torture ideas and putting men in suspended cages to starve and get eaten alive by birds. It’s not inaccurate to describe ancient Middle East as barbaric, pretty much any region in the world becomes barbaric when you put “ancient” in the front. But because it’s a foreign culture god forbid we call out the shitty things they did in the past for what they are, shitty things.
@@phoebusapollo8365 It’s racist because they’re attaching barbarity to it because of its connection to the Middle East. I would think that would be obvious. It’s not as if there’s any question of the level of cultural sophistication attached to the princess’ host country when you’re watching Cinderella or Sleeping beauty. There’s also nothing about the movie to denote that it’s from an ancient society.

Mix that in with just a down to earth, very funny in multiple ways, and intelligent and it's no wonder he's rising to fame like this. You go Glen coco!.
I have never seen a RUclipsr love one of their old jokes so much in a video that they proceeded to spent several minutes trying to find it and when they couldn’t they looked at the comments to see if a fan quoted it then went to the comments under that comment to find the time stamp. And then proceed to laugh at their own joke for a another several minutes before actually starting the review. That was such an odd yet amazing experience. Thank you Dylan. You always know how to make your videos entertaining and fresh.
i feel the direct opposite. i see the carpets relationship with aladdin as something beautiful. aladdin gives the carpet a deep sense of purpose in life, a reason to push forward. i believe it is a mutually beneficial bond as 1. aladdin does not fall to his death on multiple occasions, and 2. the carpet has a friend to protect, one that relies on him, one that needs him. thank you.
the tv show showcased perfectly how clever jasmine and aladdin are and how well they work together in all kinds of situations. they even had secret undercover missions and all that jazz. it was a fun show. for me jafars return is not as good as the king of thieves sequel, but maybe you just watch them both and see what you like better.
I liked the story of return of Jafar more than king of thieves, but the animation took a big drop in quality; in this regard, king of thieves is better.
I recently rewatched Dylans commentary on the After series and the Kissing Booth, and it's honestly so refreshing to see him react to something that he's actually having fun watching and enjoying
can we just take a moment to appreciate Dylan's consistency? this man is 20 years old which means he must be very busy, hanging out with young people his age because he is, in fact, young, yet he still uploads movie commentaries every. single. monday.
I hadn't thought about it before but by making the wish to become a prince, Aladdin wished to marry jasmine without realizing it. She's the closest princess in terms of vicinity, so anything happening in the movie works in such a way to make Aladdin's wish come true.
you're right dylan, they actually changed the lyrics of the song because they knew you would know them all and then you could not make jokes about it. true story.
Honestly "Skys and infinite places" would be perfect for the Song. I wish it was actually a verse. As someone who recently realized the absolute beauty of sparks of Jasmine and Aladdins relationship ams well as how quick witted, smart and creative Jasmine and Aladdin is and seeing Dylan appreciate them to the fullest so much makes me really happy! Also one if the things I really like about their relationship is that the movie made it very clear that Jasmine liked ALADIN ,street rat poor Aladin and she only started liking Prince Ali because she realised it WAS Aladin. Love that detail.

@@Anna-1924 That's excatly what I thought... but also the time to click and watch all of the timestamps that person also has a lot time. (yes I'm roasting myself)
you my friend, are dedicated
I was honestly about to ask if anyone counted how many times he said meat pack
First Ursula, now Jafar. Dylan really swiping right to every Disney villain.😂
Is it me or is this like the craziest video commentary that Dylan has ever done until now?? I'm not even half way through and I'm dying of laugher
Same😂
it was a really good commentary
lmaooo yes, his two aladdin videos in general are incredibly funny
Yeeees omg
@@parmisiguess I watch them both back to back 😭
You know it's a good day when Dylan upload a brand new video and he reacting to my favorite childhood movie back in the day Aladdin
If Dylan printed "you can't predict me, I'm unstable" on a t-shirt or sticker, I'd buy it.
OMG is it just me or are the "old" disney movies the absolute best? I love them soo much and no movie of today gives me the same enjoyment and attachement.
Part of the negative depictions that they mention in the text at the beginning is that in the original lyrics of “Arabian Nights” one of the lyrics is “where they cut off your hand if they don’t like your face”
The merchant at the beginning is voiced by Robin Williams. A common theory is that the merchant is the genie because Robin voiced both, they are the only characters with only 4 fingers, and the merchant is wearing blue with red around his waist. The theory was proven recently by an employee who worked on Aladdin who shared a deleted scene where the merchant transformed into the genie
The voice actor for Jafar plays Jafar in Broadway
I still don’t get it?
@@phoebusapollo8365 And seriously, when has a Disney movie ever expressed that much realism when talking about international politics?
Finally after 3 to almost 4 years Dylan is keeping his promise. Let’s see what other quests he’s gonna complete this year :)
let's see if he ever gets to that book lmao
or finishes love island 👀
I’m still waiting for Star Wars 😭
@@aubreelopez3908 baby steps guys, the man still doesn’t know how to hold a marker and write a percent sign correctly 😂
I’m not a SW fan, but even I know that video is long overdue.
Maybe he’ll finish another chapter of his book 😅
I swear there will never be an animated movie where Dylan doesn't think someone is sexy 😆
And usually the villain 😂 he also always roots for death and mayhem… maybe he’s trying to tell us something 🤣
@@alyssap7620 I mean, you ain't normal if you don't find at least something about the villain sexy. Looking at you, Maleficent, Hades, the Evil Queen, Gaston, Scar... Or from DreamWorks... Ramses, Tai Lung, the new Puss In Boots movie... I mean c'mon! 😂
@@alyssap7620 he's secretly a psychotic serial killer and is subtly telling us

The whole bit of "You can't predict me, I'm unstable" had me in hysterics. but so did the whole vid tbf! I've missed this!
I think what makes Dylan so likeable is that when you're watching his content, he just has a way of making you feel like you're hanging out and having fun, not just watching a RUclipsr for entertainment.
Mix that in with just a down to earth, very funny in multiple ways, and intelligent and it's no wonder he's rising to fame like this. You go Glen coco!.
Idk why I read that second part as, mix that in with just a *clown* to earth... I was like wait, what?
But yeah, I 100% agree with this.
You always know how to make your videos entertaining and fresh.
i enjoyed that he had so much fun with it! it made me smile... but tbh i don't get why he thought it was so funny 😅
If "you can't predict me, I'm unstable" isn't the most relatable thing I've ever heard, I don't know what is.
that audible misdirect really got me. way to go, Dylan, always keeping us on our toes
I totally thought “It’s a misdirect!” after 😂🙌
dylan is honestly the only react channel I love watching, it's been amazing seeing your content over the years and the community you've built up.
Hasn't been the same without Dylan's spacebar struggles 🤣😭😂
His finally back
Dylan trying to find a joke he made and then laughing to a point where it had to cut is so hilarious
i feel the direct opposite. i see the carpets relationship with aladdin as something beautiful. aladdin gives the carpet a deep sense of purpose in life, a reason to push forward. i believe it is a mutually beneficial bond as 1. aladdin does not fall to his death on multiple occasions, and 2. the carpet has a friend to protect, one that relies on him, one that needs him. thank you.
that’s really cute!
This feels like an overwhelming over analysation and I adore that. The carpet has a purpose now because of Aladdin
the tv show showcased perfectly how clever jasmine and aladdin are and how well they work together in all kinds of situations. they even had secret undercover missions and all that jazz. it was a fun show.
for me jafars return is not as good as the king of thieves sequel, but maybe you just watch them both and see what you like better.
The king of thieves is so good, one of my favorites growing up
Same I love that movie
King of Thieves was a BANGER and Aladdin’s dad is hot
@@hollykmyou’re not wrong 😂 Aladdin is my man crush as a child, aladdin’s dad is my man crush in my late 20s 💀
The flabbergasted face Dylan made when Jasmine did the pole vault move was the greatest😂😂😂
Dylan simping for Jafar is the most in-character thing ever

I never thought I’d laugh so much over Dylan saying “meat pack” so many times in one video. And the inaudible one at 17:08 has me dead 😂💀
That one is my favorite! It sends me to my grave 😂
I couldn't help but scream it for him
I love how Dylan casually just created one of the best misdirects in Misdirect History at 25:00 😭 because you really had me in the first half ngl
I hadn't thought about it before but by making the wish to become a prince, Aladdin wished to marry jasmine without realizing it. She's the closest princess in terms of vicinity, so anything happening in the movie works in such a way to make Aladdin's wish come true.
This reaction was just unnecessarily adorable along with the usual hilarity. Also, the kid laughs gets me too. Straight in the feels
I cannot put into words how much joy I get out of watching Dylan's commentary
Dylan fawning over the adorable children is the sweet energy we need for the rest of 2023!
This man spends 2 minutes gaslighting me into thinking "meat pack" is an actual punch line, and now I can't stop giggling whenever he says it.
you're right dylan, they actually changed the lyrics of the song because they knew you would know them all and then you could not make jokes about it. true story.
dylan: has the hots for jafar
everyone watching: pretends to be shocked
The Aladdin TV show was really good. They were always working together to save the day with their sidekicks of course.

Dylan and his break from the Disney space bar is genuinely so funny, he was probably so relieved and then BAM! Disney's back to get 'em. I find funny every time.
Your humor is impeccable, it literally makes bad days end on a good note.
Also, “that’s tongue going in” had me cackling for minutes 💀💀
