The "I Need a Hero" sequence is INCREDIBLE on every level. Music, animation, timing, storytelling, etc. I use it to teach modern-day film music in my class!
Dreamworks is god tier when it comes to making sequels.
Shrek 3 might be the only exception
@@alysssabear That and Trolls World Tour
The How To Train Your Dragon trilogy is god tier
@@brianelson1481 not the third movie
@@notapeopleperson6761 I really enjoyed the third movie. It was a good sort of twisted reflection on who Hiccup could have become. The soundtrack and animation is always amazing in the movies too. Just my opinion.
Secret implied fact, the fairy oddmother is the witch that cursed Fiona from the start
WHAAAT??!?
@@Welchy yes because if you think about it, she acts like one on this movie and it would make sense she orchestrated everything
@@Mr.Armandolu kinda. Basically the Fairy Godmother turned the King from a frog to a Prince and then he married Fiona's mother. But because he used to be a frog, it cursed Fiona to be part ogre. And so the Fairy Godmother cashed in the IOU the King owed her for turning him human to let her son marry his daughter lol.
Fiona's father was the Frog Prince, and he made a deal with the Fairy Godmother to become human in exchange for Prince Charming to become King of Far Far Away.
Few things. 1) Yes, Shrek 2 totally slaps. 2) I'm glad you recognise it's a COVER. 3) You need to do the Lord of the Rings, ASAP man!
Yes please! That trilogy is a masterpiece.
I have no idea who you are, but yeah - I like you enough after this one video to want you to be treated to what is truly a wonderful experience. That’s what these films are, they are something you live through with the characters onscreen. Between the stunning, if dated at times, visuals, and the eargasmic masterpiece that is the score. Well, let’s just say The LOTR’s trilogy is a masterpiece of cinematic storytelling that will leave you feeling every possible sentiment on the human emotional spectrum.
Drained, but in a good way. Like, hate sex, or a really good curry.
So yeah, uh, get on that.
Absolutely
Lotr reaction would be legendary
HOO boy, he's gonna have to sit there for 9 hours on total and LORD KNOWS what he'd keep in lol
20:26
"He dead"
"Aw he croaked" (slightly sad)
"Oh wait he's a frog?!" (realization)
💀💀🤣
also
"-Harold?
-... or a toad?"
Idk about the English version but in the German version the king is voiced by the same VA that does Kermit. At some points he even pulls the Kermit voice. I love it.
@@darth_karottenschal4374 Musst mal drauf achten in der Szene wo er den Kater anheuert. Da fragt ihn ein Frosch in der Kneipe ob sie sich kennen und er antwortet mit der Kermit Stimme
Not only is Justin Timberlake in the shrek universe, he is also the voice of a character in Shrek 3 :)
Because he and Cameron Diaz were dating at the time.
From what I heard, Dragon was affected as well. My theory is that she turned into a princess, but she actually turned into a pegasus! =)
Oooh so true and that's how she gave birth to the don-dragon babies at the end of this movie 🥺
I don’t see Prince Charming anymore I just see cartoon Jamie Lannister 🤣
OMG YES!!
Same.🤣
I absolutely adore how much more confident you are! So much different to your first videos when you did Harry Potter. It’s great to see. 🥰
Aww thank you! Yeah I’ve came along way since then who would have thought 🤣
I never thought about this, but Prince Charming has said twice that he rode threw the freezing mountains and the scorching hot desert to rescue Fiona, but we only hear him narrate the first time and then repeat that information the second time. There's no actual proof he actually went trough all of that. He probably said she was gone when he got to the castle because they knew Fiona got married with Shrek and in that way knew she wasn't in the castle. He didn't have to go to castle in person to check himself. In the fourth Shrek movie, Fiona was never rescued and she had to rescue herself. Where was Prince Charming? The fourth movie didn't say anything happened to Prince Charming so he should've been perfectly able to rescue Fiona, but didn't. Makes me think he was late because he was lazy and since he's a mommy's boy, he was allowed to do whatever he wanted, well past the due date to rescue Fiona. Or maybe I was a little slow and should've caught on to it earlier. I dunno.
shrek took care of dragon in the first movie. i think it makes sense that since shrek wasn't there to do that, prince charming probably wouldve been killed by the dragon in the 4th movie, and thus did not manage to save fiona
Shrek, Fiona, Fiona, mum, Harold, donkey….. Welchy
That was one of my favourite scenes from shrek 2 but you just made it better I couldn’t stop laughing 😂
You're not looking too deep into it, the onion carriage is clearly intentional, since the "onion layers" speech is what gets quoted and referenced a million times from the first film.
Aww good good, thought I was missing something 🤣
It’s also a reference to Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, but…ogre-fied
It's also what they leave in at the end of Shrek the first movie after they get married.
During the dinner scene when everyone is like Shrek, Fiona, mom, Harold, donkey!, Welchy! I died laughing 😂
Same
While it’s not my favorite movie of all time, it’s much better than the first movie and an absolute go-to if you’re looking for a great movie to kill some time
15:26 You'd normally call someone "Dove" as a bird-related nickname. Fairy Godmother is calling him a pigeon because they are, in effect, ugly doves. Just like how ogres are ugly humanoids.
I always thought it was a reference to how quiet they were being. Comparing their screams to a pigeon’s coos. Too quiet to matter or acknowledge
Hey, that's not cool. I think pidgeons are adorable.
14:54 that scene in the Latin American translation is so good. He basically says "for you baby I would be batman 🦇"
Oh god that's comedy gold
As a Prince of Egypt enthusiast, I have to disagree with the tittle, but yes this movie is absolutely top-tier, a cultural reset that will live in our minds forever, and so will the first movie.
Yeah, you can't deny Prince of Egypt its crown, both in animation and songs.
prince of egypt has visuals and music but plot-wise was a no
Agree. The opening is a slap in the face.
@@whenraindropsfall Plot-wise? Bruh, you know they didn't write (at least 95%) of that story, right? The heck you mean?
I’m ur 100th like
say what you want about shrek, the phrase 'be afraid if you dare' changed my life
It's "fear me, if you dare...."
The “I Need a Hero” scene is the greatest scene in cinematic history for a CGI film, and it’s not even close
Hey, Welchy. If you go by the lore stitched in to the first film, among other things, Shrek himself claims that ogres will make a pudding from (humans') freshly peeled skin, and squeeze the jelly from their eyes. He also claims that the aforementioned eye- jelly tastes "quite good" on toast.
@Amanda Austin I thought he said "soup," as in using the skin to make a roux. Maybe I was just super-hungry for gumbo when I watched this movie last.
Well, the thing is... how much of that is actually true and how much is just urban legend that Shrek was more than happy to play into just to scare and keep people away?
I love you commentary, always has me dead😂 Can’t wait for the Korra reactions!
Thank you!
Lord of The Rings commentary is a good idea, but it has to be the extended cut.
20:30 About toads and frogs! It's basically all toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads sort of thing. They're under the bufonidae famliy (different species are under different families. Example: poison dart frogs are in the dendrobatidae family.) Toads differ from frogs for their dryer skin, and all of them produce this poisonous secretion that defends them from predators, unless said predator is able to eat it without getting poisoned (The hognose snake for example is one predator who can and regularly eats toads so they themselves will not get eaten). For the King in this movie though, he's a frog mainly cause he's just based after the Frog Prince story. It's hard to say exactly what kind of species he is but y'know, it's a fictional movie.
Based on the appearance, shape, and size, he is most likely an American Bull Frog
Fairy Godmother: Can I get a whoop whoop?
Crowd: WHOOP WHOOP
Welchy: fuck you
You're right and you should say it. Shrek 2's sooooo good. The best of the franchise.
Also, third time recommanding you The Dragon Prince, because it's amazing and you'll probably like it ! One day, you'll do it !
... Hopefully.
Totally agree! Dragon Prince is amazing
5:24 When I was a kid, I wasn't posh enough to know what this was either! (lol)
Shrek thought the bowls were soup, but actually, it's a little water bath that's been warmed and scented (often with some sort of flower water), for you to dip your fingers in and dry them off with a towel after eating finger foods and before the main courses of a big fancy dinner are served.
We ❤️ Mongo
We do, we really do
Jennifer Saunders, aka the Fairy Godmother, was recommended by Steven Spielberg himself, after he got ahold of her audition tape for Ursula.
Yes, THAT Ursula.
im only 6 mins in and "DONKEY..."WELCHY!!" killed me for minutes, the needed duo
For my knowledge about food: in generic past days you washed your hands after every course at meal if you were with rich people, because they can afford what a peasants couldn't: a banquet, so more food to eat with less (or totally different, they can vary also on geographical areas) items that we use today when go to the dinner table.
Some of rich people also used water with roses petals or other flowers.
The forks were spread around with a bit of difficulty sometimes.
Once I watched a video about how the I need a hero scene was one of the greatest pieces of art in cinema, and they weren't lying
I can't believe I just now realized Welchy has heterochromia.
I just realised that just now
"WELCHY!"
That commetaru was just perfect.
And I agree with other comments in here: you should do The Lord of the Rings (Extended Edition) ASAP.
Sherk 2 was one of my most favorite movies growing up. I watched it so many times. Big step up from the 1st Sherk.
Love how is goes against the typical stereo-types of fairytales; the 'bad guys' are actually good and the 'good guys' are really selfish, power hungry, manipulators.
'I Need a Hero' was the most epic scene. The 'Pinocchio in a thong' scene cracked me up. And I loved the intro of Puss in Boots.
If you have seen the mandolorian, watch holding out for a hero playing over “that one scene in the finale”; both versions are great.
the best animated sequel no debate!
your reactions are the most genuine and relatable I've ever seen on this platform, been binge watching your reviews these two days and wanted to say thank you, these are amazing, I can't stop laughing and I'm just so happy watching these
The 'onion carriage' is also a parody of Cinderella's 'Pumpkin carriage' as they were both made from vegetables
I think Fiona makes for a beautiful ogre. And yeah, the King was the frog from the fairytale the Princess and the Frog. If you rewatch and pay attention, the movie hints at it constantly. From the lady frog in the bar finding him familiar...to the water lilies and pond motif of his bedroom. =P
6:05 My reaction when I noticed a Welchy reacting to Shrek 2 video
Hahahahaha jup
Kinda wish you had also put in the music contest at the end, it would’ve been funny to see your reaction to Simon Cowell being in the Shrek universe
20:34 Welchy, all toads are frogs only some frogs are toads
Toads have dry skin, short legs, they walk more than they hop, and they’re more built for land than water
I too love this cover of " I need a hero " I listen to it every once in awhile and can't even enjoy the original any more.
What a stunning thumbnail, Welchy, I wonder what phenomenal people helped you choose it 😂❤
🤣
I would totally be down for a LotR reaction/commentary (especially if you did the extended edition)
Also, if you look closely, you can see one of the cops arresting Shrek and the gang planting the catnip on Puss-in-Boots!
Did Prince Charming not notice the dragon that was supposed to be guarding her wasn’t there. Like they say in the story how hard it was to get her because of the dragon. He didn’t stop to think wow this is to easy. Also since donkey drinks the potion and his true love is dragon didnt no one stop to think what did she turn into when donkey drank the potion. Also she was pregnant too just imagine what she was going through she probably was like what is happening to me
15:02 I just noticed that Welchy's shirt and Fiona's dress are the same color.
I hope i don't make you uncomfortable, but i've wanted to tell you for a long time that you have such a beautiful smile, it always feels very warm and genuine.
Thank you for your reactions, they have helped me a lot with my anxiety and depression. I know you don't know me, but when i see your reactions, i feel like i'm watching films with a friend, thanks for being you.
Noo thank you for watching and finding joy even if it’s with an idiot like me 🤣😊
6:05 you cut in perfectly and I laughed hard as hell cuz of it, I applaud you sir
Love your profile pic
4:27 that store is relating to Old Navy that is in America or Canada. Its a clothes store famous for their jeans
I respect the opinion in the title, personally prefer the first Shrek, but I gotta disagree about greatest animated movie ever, that in my book is another DreamWorks movie that was released 2 years prior, Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron, such an underrated gem, worth the watch if not yet seen
Its just a title 💀
Its just a title 💀
It was just a title, i don't think he meant it

@@m00nsickn3ssx6 right 😭
You should definetly do a marathon commentary on lord of the rings 😍
,,I need a hero" is one of the best movie scenes of All time? If there whould be a top 10 best movie scenes, this scene whould come in it
I have been temporarily freed from real-life responsibilities and of course the first thing I'm going to do is go on a well-deserved Welchy marathon with milk tea!! I have missed watching your videos, I'm so happy you reacted to Shrek 2!! (*♡▽♡*)
Ayy Ada, hope you are well!
Thank you!! So glad to be back, it's time for a marathon and based on all of them, I'm positive I'm in for a huge treat ♡(ŐωŐ人) I'm on the first video of this marathon night but thank you for always delivering quality content, they never fail to make my day (〃^∇^)ノ
Thé king literally became the frog Prince like the story. There is also other evidence to this when him and the queen were talking
7:34 *sigh* i don't have a chance then...
You jamming to the I Need A Hero scene is such a mood 😂
I watched this movie OVER AND OVER as a kid. Very recently rewatched it and Shrek 2 still slaps in 2023! One of Dreamworks' best!
I personally tie Shrek 2's "HoldingOut for a Hero" sequence with Kung Fu Panda 2's "Cannonball" finale.
That said, Sh2 gets bonus points for that fantastic cover by Jennifer Saunders!
You have to watch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron! I know you love soundtracks, and that movie's soundtrack was composed by Bryan Adams and Hans Zimmer. It's a great movie, a DreamWorks classic imo.
Welshy; I thought there was only one song in this movie
Movie preview on Netflix; *Plays FunkyTown*
I am LIVING for you jamming out standing up to that song! XD And who can blame you?!
You dip your hands in lemon water after and sometimes before eating fish based things using your hands since it counter ducts the fish smell that would linger on your fingers after the meal :) (Go to 5:37 to understand)
14:40
“FFAPS” Hahaha for “Far Far Away Postal Service” HAHAHAHA
I never noticed the detail of all the brand renames LOLLL
Those dance moves Welchy! 🔥
The two stores you didn't seem to understand are references to American companies. Old Bravery is Old Navy, and Friar's Fat Boy is Big Boy Burgers.
oooh man the first few minutes and Im dead when Welchy's commentary XDD
I would absolutely watch a commentary of the extended editions
16:22 nobody’s mentioned how on the right there’s just a guy with the name Kyle on his shirt lmao it’s so random I love it
“”British people don’t brush their teeth” Well I am here to squash that stereotype!”
… I thought you were Scottish 😂
?? Scotland is part of Britain
I am in love with your accent.
Welchy, I cannot believe you would say Fiona’s lost her sex appeal as an ogre, I’m so disappointed honestly. Everyone knows Shrek is the epitome of sex appeal 😤
Thank you so much for taking my advice
THAT PUPPY OMG! 😍🐶
So cute!
I remember burning a whole CD specifically for this cover of ‘Hero.’ I may or may not still listen to it in my car today....
all toads are frogs but not all frogs are toads
toads are funky frogs
Could you please watch Atlantis: The lost empire? It's my all time favorite Disney film and the art style and soundtrack in it are absolutely incredible! You won't be disappointed 🥺
18:47 You had some sweet moves ngl
Always got so uncomfortable when human shriek appeared bc he just looks like my dad 💀
PLEASE do the Lord of the Rings!
Amazing Commentary again, Welchy 😀
ALSO! Welchy's got some sick moves!
The amount of times you but during this 🤣🤣🤣 your so silly I love you
Far, Far, Away, is supposed to look like Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. Old Bravery is a play on a clothing chain store called Old Navy, though I doubt there are any on Rodeo Drive.
Keep up the good work! Can't wait for you to watch the rest!
Sad you didnt see the xtra clip in the end with American idol or something, its funny :)
I liked prince charming when he had his armor and helmet as soon as the helmet is off loses all respect
“Old Bravery” is a reference to “Old Navy”, which is an American clothing store
"Lord of the Ring, marathon commentary..." I mean... if you're offering! XD
Yes, King's true face is a frag, because he and Lilian (the queen) are from The Princess and The Frog story :)
When you know he's a frog, now their first meeting story she tells seems more clear :)
YES! please do lotr
6:05 I actually lol'd 😂
Timeless classic. Absolutely hilarious! 😂
Welchy: *wants to do LOTR*
LOTR fans: We appear!
Damn, Welchy can dance
Everytime I watch this movie- I see my dad in sherk he ligit looks likes sherks human form 🤣🤣🤣
In two years Shrek 2 is eligible to be added to the national film registry
It's Donkey I love the scenes of throughout this film set of Shrek.
I've never seen this before and now I need to.
You didn't stay for the mid-credits scene with donkey's reunion with Dragon!
