I love all the easter eggs pointing to Harold originally being a frog throughout the movie. Lillian talking about their dates by the lily pond, the lady frog recognizing him at the tavern 😂 it's great.
There's also an end credit scene, Donkey is quietly singing "all by myself" until Dragon flies over and then 5 dragon/donkey mutant babies fly over. So apparently her "moodiness" was because she was pregnant 😅
To clarify what happened to Fairy Godmother at the end, she cast a spell that basically cancels out all the magic within a target. If the spell hit Shrek or Fiona, it would have turned them back into ogres. When it hit Harold, it turned him back into a frog, and when the spell bounced off his armor and hit Fairy Godmother, it destroyed her because she's a purely magical being.
Hm. I saw it more as a "kill" spell, she really wanted her revange, hence why she died, but the king's armor deflected most of it so he was less affected? (In my theory, that also might explain why in Shrek 3 -SPOILER REDACTED-, which came a bit out of nowhere.) Your explanation makes sense, but I feel it's too nice for the evil character that she is. "Ill just turn you back into ogres, that'll teach you!" And then what, how does that even help her in any way?
@@leovk5779 I think in her mind, just having Shrek's "divine beauty" taken away and being an ogre is punishment enough. Plus, she was all about spoiling her son, so she likely wanted to see Charming fulfill his role by slaying the "monster" and getting the girl.
@@peterseaboldt1250 Maybe, yeah. But she clearly aims at both of them, so it would also have made Fiona an ogre too. Any plan was out the window, I'm thinking she was more seeking revenge, but having Charming slaying "Shrek the monster" makes sense.
@@leovk5779 If she turned Fiona into an ogre, Fairy Godmother could easily have turned her back, because Fiona's not "really" an ogre in the first place. In fact, some believe that Fairy Godmother is really the witch that caused her situation to begin with.
@@peterseaboldt1250 Nah. That I don't believe at all: it's a curse, and even Fairy Godmother wasn't able to lift it easily. Everything points to that: she tried to send Charming, but too late; if she could have lifted the curse at any time, I don't think she would have missed the opportunity. Also, in Shrek 4 (SPOILERS just in case obviously) we see the parents desperate that say that even Fairy Godmother couldn't do anything, which means that even without Shrek her plan FAILS and Charming likely gets killed by the dragon. Fiona, having waited for so long, then rescue herself, with the curse not lifted. Also, after Shrek 1, yes Fiona IS really an ogre, the curse is lifted. She is, and I quote "beautiful in the eyes of her lover". That is her true form now, not just the curse lingering. The potion in Shrek 2 only temporarily turns her back into a human, and only true love's kiss could have definitively turned her into a human again (a power stronger than the curse, like in Shrek 1 and even Shrek 4, a power that even the Fairy Godmother cannot wield at will.)

So happy you enjoyed Puss so much! He has two solo outings that I think you’d absolutely love, one of which is quite possibly the best in the Shrek franchise! And that’s obviously nothing to scoff at with how phenomenal this movie is.
Just like Donkey has become for Eddie Murphy, I think that Puss is the perfect career send-off for Antonio Banderas. Somehow, this movie ranks among not only the all-time greatest sequels, but the all-time greatest comedies, as well. You know, considering that comedy tends to age quickly and badly more often than not, it is impressive how this movie of all examples is among the exceptions.
The movie is so good for so many reasons- the humor, the message, the animation. But, for me personally, the number one reason why it's good is because of the soundtrack. How was this movie able to produce/track down not only one, but TWO amazing covers of I Need a Hero?! Both are BANGERS!! Also, I don't know if you know, but there is a mid-credit scene were Donkey and Dragon reunite. And she has a BIG surprise for him. Glad to see you enjoy the movie.
The Fairy Godmother really is the fantasy mob boss. Also, the best bonus features was for Shrek 2, with different characters singing popular songs that fit them unusually well, like the three blind mice singing "I can see clearly now" and Prince Charming singing "I'm too sexy for my shirt".
The Beverly Hills scene is packed with easter eggs, its so much fun to search for them. Versachery, Burger Prince, Gap Queen, Farbuck's Coffee, Baskin Robin Hood, Epiphany and Co., Saxxon Fifth Avenue, Old Knavery, Banana Kingdom...
Haha I also remember the American Idol competition as a special feature on the DVD with Simon Cowell. The fact that they have now made 2 Puss in Boots movies shows how big of a character introduction he was. Without him, it wouldn't be much of a sequel other than the fun music moments. I have fond memories because not only did my family get me the CD soundtrack of the film but the Shrek 2 video game was one of the few games I and my two sisters would play together on OG Xbox (the others being Battlefront 1(2004) and 2(2005)).
The “I Need a Hero” sequence is my favorite part and for me it hits close to home for a very specific reason… When this movie came out, my younger sister was still such a little thing so my mom, my sister and I watching this as family was nice; but to the point, the Mongo and Gingy scene is the specific part and I remember my sister saying that we’re just like Gingy and Mongo since I was the big one and she was the lil one and when Gingy jumps for Mongo my mom jokingly asked my sis “Would you jump like that for your big brother?” And she said “Yeah because I love my big bro just like Gingy loves Mongo”… It was so cute and to this day, regarding my life, that will forever be my most precious memory
For the rest of my life I will hold fast that Shrek 2 is one of the best sequels of all time. It builds on the world, lore and characters in such a great way. The "I need a hero" sequence always gets me so pumped!
My favorite comedies are the ones where there are little jokes like that sprinkled in and you only realize them after several watches. There aren’t many, but there’s just enough.
this movie is outstanding especially in terms of a “kids movie”… the soundtrack, the voice acting, the plot, the story, the message it tells kids in terms of how personality & character is better than looks! i almost wanna call it a masterpiece 😅
The roar that Mongo makes when he's angry is the Godzilla roar, as he's meant to be like a kaiju (japanese giant monster). Originally, he was gonna be like this all throughout the scene but he came across an unsympathetic so he was made childish and dumb until he was provoked to anger.
Editor going above and beyond at 15:40! Editing out the copywritten audio, putting in a royalty free backing track, and adding in "sparkling" sfx for the transformation! That's not the original audio in that sequence whatsoever, good stuff!
Watching this again, you start realize that Fiona did Shrek dirty in the beginning of the movie. He doesn’t wanna go to a place where him and his kind have been discriminated against for generations, and she convinces him otherwise. Yet the moment they get there they’re given immediate hostility, especially from her father. After argument at the dinner table, she tells Shrek that he’s being unreasonable when he actually wasn’t. Her father was the one who really started it, and all Shrek did was defend her and call him out on being neglectful father. At least the queen tried to keep things civil.
I was (roughly) 6 and 9 when the first two Shrek films came out. They amaze me with their quality to this day, especially the soundtracks and choices of popular songs as they relate to the narrative. I teach the "I Need a Hero" sequence in my music classes! So glad you enjoyed them both!
truly a remarkable sequence. Musical Academia doesn't give enough credit to music work in Cinema, or John Williams would be regarded as the true master contemporary composer he is.
The Latin Spanish dub is iconic in its’ own right. Even Antonio Banderas actually got to voice Puss in Spanish and not just for this film. @5:05-@5:15 still one of my favorite parts of the movie. In the Latin Spanish dub, he was like “basta, Rogelio.” Eugenio Derbez cracked me up as Donkey. In the dub, he was like “ya mérito?” @15:22 I know it’s been 20 years, but Pete Yorn’s cover of Ever Fallen In Love is still my jam.
The 'fabulous abs' reference is an in-joke - the Fairy Godmother is played by Jennifer Saunders, who starred in the UK TV show 'Absolutely Fabulous' (colloquially known as 'Ab Fab').
I wonder if Natalie's ever watched The Zorro movies, because Bandaros was in those movies too and his portrayal of Puss in Boots is very reminiscent of that role.
Fantastic reaction! As other people have mentioned you should also watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, another amazing Shrek franchise sequel (in my opinion, the best). It would also be fun to see a ranking of all the animated movies you’ve watched!
I remember when this came to DVD, i was like 12 or something, i lived with my grandma, rest her soul, she always bought me cinnamon bears and i remember devouring them and just singing the songs all yhe way through. Such a great movie.
In the later movies, there are hints that are dropped that it might actually have been that the Fairy God-Mother who cursed Fiona as a means to increase her power with her son marrying her.
Nat at the start: ''I wanna watch this one cos it's talked about so much on RUclips ..... I have to know why everyone loves it'' Then spends half hour laughing her head off, & saying things like 'I love them!', 'This is Awesome!' among other things! THAT'S why Nat, that's why! 🤣🤣❤
You can skip the third Shrek in my opinion, but the fourth movie and the recent Puss in Boots movies are “GOLDEN” 🏆🍿 I implore you put ‘em on your watchlist 🙏
the original puss in boots is good as well! doesn't live up to The Last Wish but is definitely a good watch (and introduces you to kitty before The Last Wish, when she and puss first meet)
That was an incredible reaction, Natalie! And I'm so glad that you so adamantly reassured us from the start that you had not seen this movie. The MOMENT that any reactor tells me that they have seen the movie that they are reacting to, is the MOMENT that I stop watching their reaction. If it's not their genuine first time reaction, then I'm not interested in watching it. Again, I absolutely loved your reaction to this movie.
Originally The dragon was included in this movie. After Donkey drank some of the potion and turned to a horse, the dragon turned into a pegasus but this was cut from the movie since having a flying horse helping would've been too easy of a solution and we wouldn't have gotten that kickass I need a hero scene
i actually NEED to see nat react to Puss In Boots: The Last Wish now- I just know you'd love it!!! You don't even need to watch the other movies to understand it!! It has truly restored hope in the world of animation..
I remember when I first watched this movie. I was in 4th grade, and we were on vacation to Springfiled Illinois. My mom took my siblings and me to the movies to give my dad some time to rest without us being too loud. (We were 12-6 years old at the time.) I remember loving this movie. I loved fairy tales as a kid, Puss in Boots was my favorite. I like how they put in a hint to his original story about slaying an ogre into this by making it his job. I like that King Harold is hinted to be the Frog Prince. The swans in Fairy Godmothers factory turning into swans, the little Easter eggs are so good.
Just wanted to add that the latino dub of this movie is HILARIOUS since they actually adapt the jokes to the latinamerican audience, even some that didn't really need to be adapted were changed to be even funnier in my opinion. My favorite change, which I do not know how they allowed to this day is: "Shrek and I drank a magic potion and now we both look...sexy!" *Looks at Puss* "...Shrek?" "For you baby...I'd be Batman"
Shrek two is unironically one of the best films ever made. I feel like part of what makes it so great, is that you don't expect it to be. I remember seeing this in theaters and expecting pretty much nothing from it. Yet it delivered in a way I never thought would be possible for a sequal about Shrek.
My favorite thing about you, Nat; The happier you are the squeakier you become. LOL It's adorable and gives me a great idea for merch. A little Nat-Doll that is also a squeak-toy. Tell me that doesn't fit.
I rewatched this movie so many times when I was a kid. It's truly iconic. Now you have to dive into the Puss in Boots movies, especially The Last Wish. (BTW, I got the reference for the like button)
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish must be watched. It is currently my animated movie of the year and you honestly don't have to watch the first one to watch it. I figured you would eventually get to it since you are working on the Shrek movies.
The whole ending scene is reason people love this movie so much. That cover of I need a hero is a masterpiece, not to mention all the awesome stuff going on during it.
Dear Nat, I have been watching various reaction videos for over 5 years, and I've seen many many different channels doing such things, and I just wanted to let you know that your channel has consistently been among my three favourites for over a year. I'm mostly here for your Marvel reactions (and I've actually rewatched some of your Marvel reactions, even though I almost never rewatch reactions), but I've also greatly enjoyed the non-Marvel stuff that I've seen. Keep it up. Signed, a fan.
Shrek, like others movies of dreamworks, have post credits scene, don't be like people who go to the movies and run away as soon as "the end" appears... there are very good scenes that complement everything seen, like in this one that explains where the dragon was and why she was in a "special mood"
Shrek 2 is one of those phenomenon's where it seems almost universally, people recognize it as an amazing movie. I've talked to people all over the world who had seen it and they loved it, Shrek in general has such good storytelling and comedic moments. Considering it started as a punishment, people who didn't perform well on Prince of Egypt were "shreked", sent to work on what they thought was a failure, turned out to be a classic.
I love that the internet loves this movie. I love this movie. I vividly remember seeing it in a cinema in Ireland when I was visiting family as a kid. But Terminator 2 exists. So it cannot be the best sequel ever made.
Yep, the internet is right about something for once. Best animated sequel ever. And Puss in Boots is one of the best animated characters Dreamworks has ever shart out. 😄
Shrek 2 it was my very first movie ever from the franchise on VHS, I've only seen few times the first one at tv. Fun reaction Nat! This is indeed one of the best sequels ever made.
Shrek 2 was amazing. Took the daughter to see it because we loved Shrek and damn this movie hit me in the feels, and SOOOO many jokes for us big kids...god I loved it.
Seeing you react to this has me wondering, have you ever seen "Ella Enchanted"? Imagine a live-action version of this movie... a great breakout film for Anne Hathaway.
This really is one of the best sequals of all time. I love every movie in the franchise especially the first one, but this movie, in my opinion, has to be the best of all four. Its certainly my favourite.
Banderas as Puss was absolutely ICONIC when this movie came out because of his portrayal of Zorro, which was a major movie of my childhood. When Puss did the "P" scratch in the tree I fucking LOST it.
One of my favorite things as a kid was to play the game there is on the dvd. There is this Talent show where Simon Cowell is actually judge with Shrek and Fiona and some of the characters had performances it was called Far Far away idol
I just wanted to point out I was totally shocked and stoked to see you show up at the poppies last weekend. You and Cassie are my favorite reactors. That was sooo awesome!!

For the rest of my life I will hold fast that Shrek 2 is one of the best sequels of all time. It builds on the world, lore and characters in such a great way. The "I need a hero" sequence always gets me so pumped!
It’s such a masterpiece I even rewatch it after all those years
Gingy saying “we’re up chocolates creek without a popsicle stick” flew over my head more times than it should have 😂
Facts😅😅
My favorite comedies are the ones where there are little jokes like that sprinkled in and you only realize them after several watches. There aren’t many, but there’s just enough.
I still don't get it. English is not my first language and my language's dub said "It seems our mission impossible ended up being impossible".
@@Dairunt1 It’s a nod to “we’re up sh!t creek without a paddle” I believe
this movie is outstanding especially in terms of a “kids movie”… the soundtrack, the voice acting, the plot, the story, the message it tells kids in terms of how personality & character is better than looks! i almost wanna call it a masterpiece 😅
Noticed that, pretty great alternate choices fairly seemless. Also there was a post credits wasn't there involving the Dragon wasn't there?
Watching this again, you start realize that Fiona did Shrek dirty in the beginning of the movie. He doesn’t wanna go to a place where him and his kind have been discriminated against for generations, and she convinces him otherwise. Yet the moment they get there they’re given immediate hostility, especially from her father. After argument at the dinner table, she tells Shrek that he’s being unreasonable when he actually wasn’t. Her father was the one who really started it, and all Shrek did was defend her and call him out on being neglectful father. At least the queen tried to keep things civil.
If you like Puss In Boots, the new film is actually amazing. Exceeded all my expectations.
And puss in boots 1. They're both good plus, it would give more context to Kitty's character and their relationship.
@@aritw5726 What are both movies called.
Lol I was 10 and 13 when the first 2 films came out
The Latin Spanish dub is iconic in its’ own right. Even Antonio Banderas actually got to voice Puss in Spanish and not just for this film.
@5:05-@5:15 still one of my favorite parts of the movie. In the Latin Spanish dub, he was like “basta, Rogelio.”
Eugenio Derbez cracked me up as Donkey. In the dub, he was like “ya mérito?”
@15:22 I know it’s been 20 years, but Pete Yorn’s cover of Ever Fallen In Love is still my jam.
exactly, donkey singing, mesa, mesa que mas aplauda le mando le mando le mando una burra, it kills me every time😅
Aquí debe haber tacos de caviar y atole de champaña.
NENORRA A QUE HORA VAS POR EL PAN?!
B A S T A ROGELIO
YO QUIERO UN HÉROE!
My favorite part from the Latin Spanish dub is Shrek going "ES UN GATO MONTES!" (It's a wildcat!) at 12:22
The 'fabulous abs' reference is an in-joke - the Fairy Godmother is played by Jennifer Saunders, who starred in the UK TV show 'Absolutely Fabulous' (colloquially known as 'Ab Fab').
The music sequences in Shrek/Shrek 2 are some of the best animated sequences ever. I immediately picture them whenever I hear the songs.
Mongo is the best, his 3 lines are "Be Good", a Godzilla screech, and "Livin' La Vida Loca", what more could you want
You will LOVE the Puss in Boots spin offs, especially The Last Wish, its absolutely amazing!
Shrek is definitely one of top fav franchises! Grew up watching all 4 films when they debuted in theaters!
I wonder if Natalie's ever watched The Zorro movies, because Bandaros was in those movies too and his portrayal of Puss in Boots is very reminiscent of that role.
Natalie: “There’s like a 10% chance that I have seen this…”
Also Natalie: “I’m 99% sure I haven’t seen this”
…
The math ain’t mathing Natalie
I think she first said 90% then she said 99%
Fantastic reaction! As other people have mentioned you should also watch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, another amazing Shrek franchise sequel (in my opinion, the best). It would also be fun to see a ranking of all the animated movies you’ve watched!
This movie is considered one of if not the GREATEST sequel ever made. The way it follows up on the themes of the 1st movie is why it's so beloved
That and the memes LMAO
I really enjoyed the reveal of who the king was. When I first say this movie honestly didn't expect him to be the Frog Prince.
I remember when this came to DVD, i was like 12 or something, i lived with my grandma, rest her soul, she always bought me cinnamon bears and i remember devouring them and just singing the songs all yhe way through. Such a great movie.
P.s. same age as me, '93
Being a 2000s kid the shrek movies was a huge part of my childhood 💯
In the later movies, there are hints that are dropped that it might actually have been that the Fairy God-Mother who cursed Fiona as a means to increase her power with her son marrying her.
Absolute classic! such a amazing sequel, really elevating everything about the first film!
"I Need a Hero" has never been covered in such a fantastic and yet hysterical way.
Just the best animated sequence ever!
TRUE
i grew up with the Shrek franchise and i'm surprised how well it holds up!
Dreamworks never disappoints.
Yep Dreamworks is one of the best entertainment studios
The police brutality scene felt a bit too real.
@@Nemisis007 FREE MY MANS! PUSS DID NOTHING WRONG! THEY GOT THE WRONG CAT!
@@Nemisis007 and hilarious
The 4th Shrek movie should be one on your watchlist it's an underrated gem
Nat at the start: ''I wanna watch this one cos it's talked about so much on RUclips ..... I have to know why everyone loves it''
Then spends half hour laughing her head off, & saying things like 'I love them!', 'This is Awesome!' among other things!
THAT'S why Nat, that's why! 🤣🤣❤
I had a big poster in my room of that scene where Puss is using his big eyes with his hat. I was so upset when my little brother ripped it 😂
You can skip the third Shrek in my opinion, but the fourth movie and the recent Puss in Boots movies are “GOLDEN” 🏆🍿 I implore you put ‘em on your watchlist 🙏
Oh shut up
the original puss in boots is good as well! doesn't live up to The Last Wish but is definitely a good watch (and introduces you to kitty before The Last Wish, when she and puss first meet)
This is one of those movies that I rewatched constantly as a kid. It's probably the most used DVD in my collection.
SHREK 2 IS A LEGENDARY FILM.
MORE HEAT LESS FOAM
You need to watch Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2, because 2 has the greatest 'I need a hero' sequence ever. It gives me goosebumps to this day
That Gymnopédie No. 1 moment though!
i actually NEED to see nat react to Puss In Boots: The Last Wish now- I just know you'd love it!!! You don't even need to watch the other movies to understand it!! It has truly restored hope in the world of animation..
Watch the first movie too, it’s great
Nah gotta watch the first one too, shows Puss's origin
I remember when I first watched this movie. I was in 4th grade, and we were on vacation to Springfiled Illinois. My mom took my siblings and me to the movies to give my dad some time to rest without us being too loud. (We were 12-6 years old at the time.)
I remember loving this movie.
My favorite change, which I do not know how they allowed to this day is:
"Shrek and I drank a magic potion and now we both look...sexy!"
*Looks at Puss* "...Shrek?"
"For you baby...I'd be Batman"
Shrek two is unironically one of the best films ever made. I feel like part of what makes it so great, is that you don't expect it to be. I remember seeing this in theaters and expecting pretty much nothing from it. Yet it delivered in a way I never thought would be possible for a sequal about Shrek.
My favorite thing about you, Nat; The happier you are the squeakier you become. LOL It's adorable and gives me a great idea for merch. A little Nat-Doll that is also a squeak-toy. Tell me that doesn't fit.
literally not even joking, one of the best movies ever.
I rewatched this movie so many times when I was a kid. It's truly iconic.
Now you have to dive into the Puss in Boots movies, especially The Last Wish.
(BTW, I got the reference for the like button)
literally my favorite movie, it’s become part of my brand
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish must be watched. It is currently my animated movie of the year and you honestly don't have to watch the first one to watch it. I figured you would eventually get to it since you are working on the Shrek movies.
The whole ending scene is reason people love this movie so much. That cover of I need a hero is a masterpiece, not to mention all the awesome stuff going on during it.
Dear Nat,
I have been watching various reaction videos for over 5 years, and I've seen many many different channels doing such things, and I just wanted to let you know that your channel has consistently been among my three favourites for over a year.
Since you’re loving Puss can’t wait to see you eventually get to his movies!
The ending of Shrek 2 is truly my favourite scene in any media ever.
I would enjoy it immensely if she reacts to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
And the first movie as well
Same, I love that film.
watched shrek 1 and 2 soooo many times during my childhood, it freaks me out how good both of them are still
Even the 4th movie is good
@@Kenny-ep2nf i haven’t watched the other two movies in a while but i don’t doubt it
@@viniciusmoura4521 yeah bro
I don’t know anybody who doesn’t like this movie, that’s how much of a masterpiece it is
I’d put toy story 2 also as a contender for that :)
@@oscardawson2502i love toy story 2 but shrek 2 is better
Bring on Shrek 3!!!
You missed a post credit scene where Dragon returns to Donkey with kids!
Came here looking for this comment
Gotta do MegaMind! It’s a woefully underrated animated flick. And we’ll be very melancholy if you don’t.
I dont know if you noticed but when Shrek gets detained he gets "pepper sprayed" which is so funny to me
The DVD extra from this movie that was most used in my house was karaoke with each of the characters singing a different song.
Puss in boots and Nat crying at the same time is the cutest thing ever lol
One if the BEST sequels of all time!
*of
you might have missed the aftercredits scene. It is a scene of after the party
Not to mention that the dvd had a bonus feature section where there was a mini game and it was just American Idol but Far, Far Away Idol
I love when Natalie laugh and when she gets emotional. ❤
Yea these movies are legendary at this point, perfect for kids and adults alike.
Now that you've shared in the glory of Shrek 2 all you gotta do is watch Shrek 3 and you'll share our pain
yeah
And then Shrek 4 which is a great finale
@@orbboom6119 I think I'm in the minority, but I hated Shrek 4 😭
Shrek 4 is probably my favorite of the 4. Mind you I love all of them, even 3. So take it as you will. 😅
I'll take Shrek 3 but not 4
Banderas as Puss was absolutely ICONIC when this movie came out because of his portrayal of Zorro, which was a major movie of my childhood. When Puss did the "P" scratch in the tree I fucking LOST it.
I really want Nat to watch the new Puss in boots. its soo good
The Last Wish made me cry harder than I expected I would to a Puss movie
One of my favorite things as a kid was to play the game there is on the dvd. There is this Talent show where Simon Cowell is actually judge with Shrek and Fiona and some of the characters had performances it was called Far Far away idol
I just wanted to point out I was totally shocked and stoked to see you show up at the poppies last weekend. You and Cassie are my favorite reactors. That was sooo awesome!!
Besides the movie itself, the biggest nostalgia trip that hits me like a train is looking up the promotional posters that movie theaters had for it.
