Another classic. Well written, well-acted, and well directed. Brendan Fraser showed his leading man chops in this one.
He was amazing in "School Ties"
@@pantlessreactions I agree and “with honors” is great too.
a movie not many people love, but I do that he is in is "Monkey Bone"
So sad that his bitch of a wife ruined his career. Well, she made it worse. He was one of the few male #metoo stories.
@@tommyllama4558 YES!
Brendan Frasier was a stuntman before becoming a leading actor; still did nearly all his own stunts for this & the other Mummy movies. After a couple years as an action star the poor guy was pretty much beat to pulp...
ya and the public kinda turning on him for weight gain and such wasn't cool either that messed with him alot from what I read.
IIRC the hanging scene almost killed him due to a malfunction in the equipment and he was actually got choked.
@@jamesray9009 He got really messed up with his divorce, too. I forget the specifics, but he was hit with alimony that was calculated off of him continuing to be a massive star. Something like a million dollars a year. He had to go to court repeatedly to get it reduced because his career fell apart for almost a decade due to injuries and depression.
@@Beowulf8989 jeez. Imagine not only having to continually deal with the end of your marriage but to have to stand in court and tell them your career is declining so you can'tafford the alimony. Ouch. This guy was my teenage crush, I knew he dropped off the scene but I had no idea all this was going on for him. So sad.
How does Tom Cruise manage all his stunts? Does his smaller stature help perhaps? Would like to hear your guys thoughts on this
“Your neck saved your neck” best line I’ve ever heard 😂
Fun fact: Brendan Fraser almost died from from that hanging scene. As he put it “I did get fully choked-out. It was scary.”
@@masteroftheassassins yikes, that’s scary
@@masteroftheassassins it's possible for equipments to go wild and start malfunctioning.. Its quite frightening O.o
This and the mummy 2 are favs of mine. I bought them to rewatch at least once a year. Comedy, action, bit of romance, and the fantastical - it's got it all.
Definitely watch Mummy 2 as you will see more of both Evie and the gorgeous woman he was trying to bring back. :)
Mmm, Patricia Velásquez...
Don't forget the music.
@@dracoargentum9783 nah Rachel solos lol
Camels aren't actually faster than horses on solid ground, but are faster on sand. Kind of like how a 4 wheel truck would likely beat a sports car on a dirt or gravel road.
Camels are beautiful and unique animals only thing wrong is they can spit but I have always liked camels
camels have more endurance than horses too
This was a fantastic explanation.
@Republic of Texas I didn't know that, but that would make sense as well.
i would edit your comment about dirt and gravel roads, there are plenty of AWD sports cars/hatchbacks that would smoke a truck simply due to lower weight :v
now if you said mud or very uneven ground....your comment would ring true
My 11 year old daughter has the attention span of a gold fish and yet she will watch this movie series without blinking. Her favorite movie series by far.

@@audibleadventures9004 agreed! my niece and nephew watched it when they were 10 and 8 years old, and LOVED it!
Rachel Weisz and Brendan really make this movie; totally different kinds of actors but they work so well together.
And we see why part 3 didn't do so well
@@nemya9586idk I’m Ngl I actually enjoyed part 3, if that’s the one with the Chinese mummy, thought it was actually pretty decent
If you’re obsessed with Evelyn in this movie you’ll LOVE her in the second one.
such a shame they couldn't get her back for the third
obviously i was referring to the actress the character is there.
He'll hate her in the third!
@Ben Franklin I suppose but that's what actors do they play pretend for a living but anyway it's just really noticeable and the new one wasn't as good imo
Me and my family love this movie so much! My dad actually named me after Evelyn and I’m on my way to becoming an archaeologist myself 😂💀
This and "The Mummy Returns" are two of my favorite action-adventure movies of all time.
Indiana Jones anyone?
@@gabesandvig7532 me!
The Scorpion King was alright too.
@@americanmutt9089 yeah, it's not as good as the first two Mummy films, but it's at least better than Mummy 3 imo.
The third one was an absolute shit-show.
When O'Connell is fighting all the zombies while Evie is chained up. Brandon Frazier did that entire fight scene by himself with nothing there. They added the zombies later. Brandon had to know and get every swing, kick and step right to make it all work as planned.
What a fun reaction to a favorite movie! Evie is a girl after my own soul - I love her priorities: in the middle of a crisis, she can stop to enjoy scoring a point off a bunch of scholars who disrespected her, and correct Benny's translation!
I have been to Egypt once, a long while ago. Spent three magical weeks there. Yes, I rode a camel. Camels can, in fact, go pretty fast, as fast as horses, and they can last a long time.
You’re on a roll with you’re movies! This reaction was SO FUN! You could feel how into the movie you were. The characters and actors all have so much charisma it’s hard not to love them! O’Connell an all time great adventure character and Even as well!
Some reaction recommendations:
Men In Black (starring Will Smith)
Pirates of the Caribbean (such a fun adventure movie)
It'd be hard to believe he hasn't seen pirates
Oh, absolutely! Those two series are a fun ride too! 😁
1:35 "1925?! I think I was like 7 or 8 then" Mr.Video is a vampire confirmed.
I...am a librarian!
This movie was big for us geeky girls in the '90s. I remember I saw it for the first time in a movie theater on the USC campus when I was visiting a friend at that college for a football game. And then we walked around the campus afterward with our arms held out saying, IMHOTEP, IMHOTEP...
This and the sequel are two of my favorite all time go-to movies for when I just want to sit up late and feel good and warm and fuzzy and have a few good laughs. Perfect cast, perfect chemistry, perfect amusement factor, perfect action. Just perfect.
Great movie, Brenden Fraser is an underappreciated actor. He has a really good comedy that would be worth a watch that I've never seen anyone react to, "Blast From The Past". (edit: The Jinjer shirt is bad ass!!)
Leo would LOVE Monkeybone! And probably Bedazzled at that!
I will second recommendations for Blast from the Past and Bedazzled. Both are good movies.
Can't speak for Monkeybone, never saw it.
Blast from the past was one of my favorites!
Another good one is Encino Man. WEEZ THE JUICE
Trust
Time to do a Brendan Fraser movies binge dude, the guy is a Legend.
Absolutely! Journey to the Center of the Earth, Inkheart, Dudley Do-Right, Monkeybone, George of the Jungle, and Blast from the Past are all great films.
This movie was designed to be fun and entertaining. I think they succeeded very well. THE MUMMY RETURNS is almost better aside from an infamous bad CGI moment. Evey looks even better in that one. Did you know that actress is married to James Bond, Daniel Craig? If you want to see another Brendan Fraiser classic you gotta see ENCINO MAN. It also stars Sam from LOTR! I think you'd find the movie hilarious. Also, did you not notice that Rick and Evey had bags of gold on their camel at the end? It was the gold that Benny loaded up at first but went back for more gold, which cost him his life. Greed never pays off. Keep up the good work Leo!
One of Brendan Fraiser movie is Blast from the Past! Has Christopher Walken and Alicia Silverstone
Another classic is Airheads w/Adam Sandler & Steve Buscemi (and a boatload of famous supporting cast).
George of the jungle is a must

I have had a lifelong obsession with Ancient Egypt and it was only altered by this movie, I was about 10 when i came out and it's one of the few movies I can watch over and over, know every line, facial expression and scene and still never tire of it. I've see the 2 sequels as well and just the 1st Scorpion King movie (no need to suffer through the rest of them lol) but this one still remains my fave. However, I just came back from the immersive experience of King Tut (discovered around the time this movie is set) and it had me come find these reaction videos)
Imhotep, Ack-su-namun- and Seti I were real people. However, historically speaking, they would of never met as they were many many years apart from each other. Imhotep was a priest, architect and physician who designed the first pyramids of egypt. Seti I was a pharaoah ofcourse, and Ack-Su-Namun (mispelled in the movie) was a princess, daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, half sister of King Tut, also his wife. There is no way she would of been the mistress of Seti I or even in the same lifetime as him.
Also in the second movie it's said Evie is the reincarnation of Nefertari, however there is no scientific proof of who her parents were, Seti the I was actually her father in law because she married Ramesses the Great, his son.
28:22 I love how Benny is going through all the different symbols of faith and finally hits the correct one and then the Mummy's like *oh shit man we homies*
Wasn't "oh shit man we homies" it was more "oh shit man, you're a slave"

24:42 That's based on history: Many tombs were raided, and the mummies were used for fire-fuel. Sometimes, the funeral wrappings were taken, and used to wrap meat. This of course caused all kinds of nasty contamination of the meat, and got lots of people sick to death. This was taken as more evidence of the effectiveness of the curses inscribed on the tombs.
They were also used for paint. There's a color called "mummy brown" which was made from mummies.

The political left always censoring the right. Such a shame that’s still happening
13:49 "No your neck saved your neck!" Lol
That "Hey Benny, looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river" is such an awesome line.
Considering that the Nile river is infested with crocodiles it is a safe assumption that crossing it at any spot is like asking peeps to become chow.
Oh, and camels are the prefered pack and riding animal for the desert. Broad, flat soft feet able to spread the weight across the sand, barely sinking into the surface of even soft sand; an incredible endurance; able to store water in the fatty tissue of their humps and release it as needed, able to lie down during a sandstorm and close both eyes and nose tightly, filtering out the blown sand through the hairs around their nostrils.
Now compare that to a horse: stiff, hard hooves with barely any surface area, regularly sinking to their ankles into sand at each step, require huge amounts of water regularly in the desert heat that has to be carried along, reducing whatever else you want to carry, very likely to twist or break a leg when falling, and easily spooked, and easily suffocated under sand.
The jump scare at 9:00 had me laughing so hard about choked on my food. Leo you're reactions are always so entertaining.
I know I have mentioned this before but I'd love to see you react to The Poseidon Adventure with Gene Hackman and the Towering Inferno, they are amazing disaster films from the '70s.
Oh my GOD, yes please!! Both movies are VERY entertaining!
@@glasgavlen I'm sure I've mentioned them in over half of his reactions. The Poseidon Adventure is my favorite but I love both.
I love how most of the jumpscares in this movie are comedic. So many scary movies rely on cheap jumpscares is nice to see a movie that makes fun of them.
Poseidon Adventure.. HELL YES! Haven't seen that movie since I was a kid, was fascinated and traumatized by it. The exploding Boilers..
I'm late but watching the Reaction. There's about 5 movies connected to this Very Movie
The amount of crushes I had in this film growing up (and still have). Rick & Ardeth I had massive crushes on for obvious reasons, had a weird crush on Imhotep (when he’s fully human of course I’m not that weird) & had a girl crush on Evelyn. Also Brendan when filming that hanging scene actually passed out…
This movie had the hottest cast, no denying it. If you didnt fall in love with Ardeth, Rick or Evie you werent watching the movie 😅
Let’s not forget anak sunamun, she was soooo fine
Yeah, Ardeth definitely, lol..
Totally agree!! Ardeth = 🔥
This is a childhood classic that me and my friends quote all the time. “My eyes! My eyes!” If anyone was hungover we’d say “apparently he had a very good time”
lol hope you did the accent.
My friends and I always quote it too. So many hilarious quotes lol.
Unfun fact:while shooting that hanging scene Frasier legitimately died for about 5minutes but luckily they were able to recesitate him
actually he didn't 'legitimately' die. he was asphyxiated until he was unconscious. he regained consciousness while an EMT was talking to him. not the same as dying, but close (he passed out).
I don't reccomend movies much on here but if there is one i've been wanting to see your reaction to its "constantine" with Keanu Reeves and it has evelyn ( Rachel Weiss ) from this movie in it too. I second the Constantine movie. Also, based on your questions about what the 10 plagues of Egypt are - watch the animated movie Prince of Egypt if you haven't already. It is a very well done telling of Exodus (story of Moses).
Oh hell yeah!!!!!
This is THE best. I think it gets played on our tv at least once a year in our house. We all wish we were her and had him fall for our clueless self.

Another Brendan Fraser movie you should watch is Blast from the Past. Super underrated, but it's a really sweet movie with some really funny moments.
Also Bedazzled is good too. Though i would recommend you also check out the original 1967 version too, it's very different, but comparing them is an interesting way to see how comedy styles changed over the years. Plus Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were brilliant comedians.
The Mummy movies are top notch!!!! Horror and comedy mix! The Mummy Returns, which is a continuation of this movie, is awesome also!!!!❤
This is literally the best reaction video I have ever watched. Your commentary is pure GOLD!
Pulling off a classic style monster movie in modern day is one of the hardest things and this pulled it off. Brendan is a great actor and it's a tragedy what happened to him.
Glad he made a comeback with Doom Patrol
The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are awesome - Stephen Sommers (the director) has a knack for old-school pulp adventure (the style of movie serials and cheap dimestore novels from the early 20th century), you should definitely check out Deep Rising, which is an action horror in the same style.
The third movie is crap - different director (Russell Mulcahy), only Brendan Frasier and John Hannah was in it from the old cast, and there was no chemistry (also the script was a confused mess).
Brendan Fraiser + Adam Sandler + Steve Buscemi + a boatload of famous supporting cast = Airheads, a movie about a band trying to get their start in a very unconventional way (no spoilers).
The dedication for a horse impression had me laughing my ass off 🤣. Please do The Mummy:Return’s. It was another masterpiece after the mummy 💯
Brendan Fraser was an still Is an amazing actor. All that fight secuence with the mummies around the table was filmed with Him fighting air. All the mummies are CGi. I fell in love with Him after this movie.
You should watch George of the Jungle also with Him. Is really funny.
Including, Encino man.
It was "Bedazzled" that convinced me Brendan Fraser was an amazing actor. A fun comedy, but some seriously impressive acting in that film!
it's damn sad that Fraser is struggling and has been struggling all this time, just goes to show you cant be reckless with money, even if you're a superstar.
Bro check out another Brenden Frasier classic…Blast from the past. It also stars Alicia silverstone, Christopher walken and sissy spacek. Seriously funny and underrated comedy
The 10 plagues of Egypt from the Bible... locusts, water into blood, lice etc... from the story of Moses, from the book of Exodus. Also speaking of the 10 plagues you should definitely watch the animated movie, The Prince of Egypt

If you think about it Anck-Su-Namun and Imhotep have a love story typical of the good guys, pure love but an evil guy wants her for himself, tortured and killed because they love each other and turned into evil monsters, for the entire movie he just want to bring back to life his loved girl
But then it’s a big twist near the end of the sequel to this one!!! Ditching him because he won’t now just run away together with her and leave it all behind. By this time he was not the same anymore but basically sort of turned into a monster and warped but also he’ll bent on revenge and destruction instead of realizing she finally came back reincarnated!! Even found, then revived him in the beginning of the movie
One of my All-Time favorites. Imhotep was terrifying, even if the cgi in certain harts haven't aged. 41:37 The cough was my favorite part. I wanna see more Brendan Fraser films on your channel, "George of the Jungle" & "Bedazzled" 1967 & 2000.
Rachel Weisz is still absolutely, and beyond comprehension, breath taking.
So glad you watched this one! Now you have to watch the Mummy Returns!
I still think Rachel Weiss is particularly cute in this movie. She really got that sexy librarian vibe going.
This was one of your best reactions thus far! And also the best reaction I have seen so far for The Mummy! Awesome! This is one of the best adventure films ever made, saw it 5 times at the cinema back in the day, know it by heart. So wonderful to now share it with you since you were so enthusiastic all the way through. Now, hurry, & watch Mummy Returns. Evelyn will be even sexier! Yeah, can you believe it! But she IS! And she is not the only hot chick, BTW. And, no worries, more action from O'Connel, more humor, more fun, more charms & more stuff that certainly should be left alone!
Rewatching this as an adult, after having watched the "Army of Darkness," they're giving me pretty similar vibes.
Although the Army of Darkness is way more goofy with their humor and packed with one-liners.
I like to think of these movies as prequels to army of darkness.
Good old Bruce Campbell and his quips. Ever see Jack of All Trades? So bad but also oh so good
I remember when Nostalgia Critic covered this movie he tried out other actors in the role of O'Connell. Frasier definitely killed it, but I can't help but wonder what this could have been like with Bruce Campbell.
O'Connell: Throws Beni overboard.
Leo: Sometimes my genius is almost frightening.
this movie was a call back to old adventure films, much like Indiana Jones is, combined with the mysticism of Egyptian Mythology. it was received so well that it spawned it's own franchise that included two sequels and a cartoon that wasnt half bad. do yourself a favor though and NEVER watch the Dark Universe Remake, it's TRASH!
The Gaming Paladin "It's TRASH" clearly, you've never watched "The Mummy's Dungeon" (1993) which makes the Dark Universe one look like a masterpiece by comparison trust me there's no worst mummy related movie than that one ! One of the greatest 90s movies created and the sequel was even better
The sequel sucked compared to this. Rick and Evelyn can't keep their hands off each other to look out for their son. And Jonathan was right, it was ardeths job to make sure the mummy doesn't rise up again! It was not a well thought out plot that second movie had man

I can watch this movie and the sequel 100 times and never get tired of them. It's so weird to see the actor John Hannah (Johnathan) in this role because I'm used to seeing him in the series Spartacus. He's absolutely ruthless as Batiatus. Still recommending The Professional and Gangs of New York. 🤗🖤
Haha, I had an equally odd experience seeing him in Spartacus after being used to him in this role since I was a kid. What a great, versatile actor!
I rode a camel once, at a circus. It was like being on top of a wooden-lattice tower in a high wind: Swinging 2-4 feet forward, or back, or to the sides for every slow stride. They are not easy animals to master. They more stubborn than mules, and more viciously evil-tempered than llamas. Definitely in my top 10 favorite animals. Not as fast as a horse, but far more enduring, in the open desert. If you get a chance to ride one, I can only suggest you TAKE it!
Zoology Nerd Note: Those seen here are not camels, but dromedaries. Camels are shaggier, have two humps, and are more often found in Asia.
They're still camels, bud. Same family.
However their reputation for being ill-tempered, when a camel (or dromedarie) likes you, you have a friend for life. Rachel Weisz (Evey) got the latter - apparently the one she rode was depressed for weeks after she left.

Oldie but Goodie Mr. Video! You know you make rewatching a movie so much fun. Thanks for that! Elizabeth
Leo, these are must watch Brendan Fraser movies:
1. Mummy 1 & 2
2. Encino Man (comedy)
3. Blast from the Past (Comedy)
4. School Ties (Drama)
5. George of the Jungle (comedy)
I love how ancient you make yourself sound, Leo you look good for 106 years old if you were a kid when this movie took place 😄, of course you look good anytime 😍
This is such a great movie! I will always watch it when it comes on -- Fantastic review! Pretty sure every one went alittle bi for Evelyn - She is hot as hell in this movie!
The second movie is also really good - but please feel free to 100% ignore the third
Love you Leo! Just waiting for Rocky II like a kid waiting for Christmas 😀
Please watch Van Helsing!! It's by the same director of the Mummy and it's got all kinds of classic monsters: vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein's monster, it's so good! Big hugs from Mexico!!! 🙌
Anucapulco! I just laughed my ass off! 🤣
Yup now its time for "The Mummy Returns"💯 its a better movie except for the scorpion kings (Dwayne " The Rock" Johnson) CGI at the very end , its the only weak scene in the whole film but everything else is amazing for its time💯💯💯💯
