So glad you're reacting to one of the best Dreamworks films. Hopefully you'll consider checking out more of their work since you seemed to really like this film and Megamind. Other great ones to see are the remaining HtTyD films, the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, the first 2 Shrek films, the Prince of Egypt, the Road to El Dorado, and Spirit (2002).
@CLARISS - Girl.. You spent 80% of this "reaction" (if you can even call it that) looking at your food, instead of the screen... LITERALLY. This was one of the most frustrating watching experiences Ive ever, EVER had.
Clariss in the beginning: Leaning back, eating chips, pausing the video and talking over it. Clariss at the end: Edge of the seat, leaning forward, 2 syllable exclamations at most, completely immersed and at the verge of tears. Yup, this is pretty much why I love this movie.
When I think about it, it actually makes sense toothless would understand "I''m sorry" because hiccup is very apologetic for everything and he probably understands now it's when he feels bad for overstepping bounds Man...every single movie in this trilogy gets me, no matter how many times I see them I get a little teary eyed and even more when I can hear and see people getting choked up. Love this franchise so much
Actually, it’s just cause Toothless straight up understands human speech, the concept of weapons, peace offerings, etc, and shows a great range of anthropomorphic emotions and reactions throughout the franchise. Hiccup often just says little offhand comments midfight and Toothless just understands the whole plan from that.
@@phoebusapollo8365 if that were the case the hiccup would've just talked to him without a struggle. We have an entire section where they're learning to understand each other and continue to throughout the series
It's cut from this reacrion, but moments after Stoick disowns Hiccup, you can see him *stagger* in horror at what he's just done. He's not a villain, he's human, and he redeems himself by the end!
One thing I love, is that the dragons act like actual animals in the situations they’re in. During the final test, the Monstrous Nightmare first come out, aggressive and roaring, then he goes around the cage shooting fire at the Vikings that put him in there, and only when he realizes that he trapped, does he start to stalk towards Hiccup. If you watch his eyes, you can see he’s calming down, and can see that he’s not attacking hiccup. Once Stoick smashes his hammer on the cage, his eyes go back to slits and he attacks hiccup from being startled.
This trilogy is one of my favorites and I'm excited to see your reactions to the other 2 movies. I love the moment right after Stoick tells Hiccup "You're not my son" you see him pause and stumble because of the weight of saying such a hurtful and profound thing. You also understand that all he's known his entire life is that dragons are bad and he has the entire village to think of as well. He is just trying to do what he thinks is right, even if we know there is another way, in that moment he can't see it yet. It makes the moment he does see there's another way, saves Toothless from drowning, and tells Hiccup he's proud of him, so much more powerful. ❤❤❤
Clariss it's SO SATISFYING to see you slowly get more and more engrossed in the movie. You were just snacking and casual and then you were leaning forward crying happy tears by the end (I was too, I love this movie!). Such a genuine reaction to this and it's honestly what I was expecting. The score is incredible, the story is simple and told well. The characters are not boring at all, and the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is so much fun. This movie is amazing. What a great reaction, and it's nice to see you enjoyed it. Can't wait to see receive to the next two!
You mentioned that we've seen this story over and over again, but in this movie it is SO well done. I think primarily because the Dad is so loving. Yeah, he's this big STRONK manly Viking, but you see him struggling to connect with his son and really wanting the best for him. In the standard version of this story, the parents/dad is always like "Well if my son would only try harder" or "he needs X to make him a real man" and while Hiccup feels that pressure from society and especially his peers, I don't feel like his dad lays that on him. Sort of indirectly by being a little disappointed, but also I feel his dad understands that they aren't the same and that Hiccup should find some other way to be a part of the community. It doesn't feel like there's any direct shame in that just that the dragon fighter is glorified and his dad's reputation has made Hiccup have his own expectations. And I find that really refreshing that his dad is so loving about it. He has that moment of weakness when Hiccup tries to explain, but then even on the ship he saves Toothless for no other reason than his son risked his life for the dragon so it must be worth saving. That to me, because you know HE doesn't trust the dragons but he trusts his son's judgment, shows me what a good father he is. So I think that's why it feels so well done. His father is human, and has his moments of screwing up, but in general is loving and caring and doing his best to connect with his son and that to me shines through the whole movie and gives it a different feeling than the "usual" way this story is told. :D
For me, the ending was where you realize that Hiccup went beyond the call to save people that didn’t approve of him being different. The cherry on top was when he lost his leg that showed that he sacrificed a part of himself for what he loved and cared about, and at a young age as well. Now he and his dragon both are similar mentally and physically, since toothless in returned protected and saved Hiccup with everything of his being.
It is a story we have herd before but when it is told well, then... Happiness for a lifetime. I as a grown man the first time I saw this movie could not stop from getting sucked in and at the end crying happy tears.
This film (and the sequels) are indeed a wonderful story about making progress through the struggle of being different. As a disabled person I also loved how this franchise actually incorporates disability in the story, without making it about disability explicitly. Toothless's Tail, Hiccup's foot, Gobber's everything.
I can say that this is my favorite animated movie. The first time I watched it, I watched it again right after finishing. There was just something about it that I attached to. I love watching other’s first reaction to the film because I remember mine so vividly.
Stoick and Hiccup both echo the same line when their hearts change about the dragons. Both are standing over a downed Night Fury... And both say to themselves, "...I did this".
Clariss I'm so happy and excited that you're reacting to this film. It's without a doubt DreamWorks Animation most heartfelt and beautiful films and easily one of the best film series after the Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda films. Can't wait for your future reactions to the rest of the How to Train your Dragon films.
the first time i watched this it absolutely destroyed me emotionally as a disabled person. this was one of the best representations of disability ive seen in a movie. hiccups not fixed he gets a mobility aid. also toothless hiding hiccup to protect him until stoick apologises 🥺🥺🥺
One thing I love about this movie the most is the score, just. The thematic themeing and everything, as a kid, this movie's score was something that I listed to religiously because I just fell in love with this movie. To this day I still have most of it memorized, it's all so good.
Also forgot to mention. There’s a lil holiday special short that came out for it too. It’s really sweet and I think you’ll like it too And an animated series called Race to the Edge that takes place between the second and third movie
I like the part where Stoic is looking up at the teens coming in on the dragons and gobber gestures up at hiccup and sayd, 'every bit the boreheaded stubborn viking you ever were.' Stoic just nods. like, yup, can't argue with that. Now, I not you don't really do music video reactions so if you don't want to do a reaction video I understand but please check out 'To Where No One Goes' covered by Peter Hollens. The song is from the second movie (don't worry, there are no spoilers) It also features the singer's then toddler son (this was about 5 years ago)
All we need in this world is a little more of this (gestures the all of you). You're amazing, thank you for the kind words and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we wish the same for you and more! As for the movie, I was so moved by it because it hit home... Anyway, I think I saw it 3 or 4 times the week it came out because I kept dragging friends that haven't seen yet to the theater 😅 You'll love them all, bring tissues
Great job on your reaction Clariss! I really love this movie and if anyone is interested and is also a huge fan of Pokémon and is looking for a really good fanfiction to read I have been reading this really great crossover fanfiction that crosses over Pokémon and How To Train Your Dragon! Its actually part of an ongoing series called The Trials of Sarah but there is a special book that features the main character Sarah, her godfather Tsukumaro, and all of her Pokémon and Dragons coming together to help Hiccup and Zenna (an OC that belongs to someone else-but the author was given permission to use) and some really cool Fakemon including an Eeveeloution Fakemon that happens to be a dragon type (again the author was given permission to use these Fakemon) but it takes place during the first How To Train Your Dragon Movie and how Sarah, Tusukumaro, all of Sarah’s Pokémon and Dragons and Hiccup and Zenna have to come together to help bring peace between Vikings and Dragons!
I'm so happy you liked this movie. It's one of my all time favorites and I'm a very old man... still love it. I'm not ashamed. Lol. Love your reactions. Makes me happy when you enjoy movies I grew up with. Thank you for your channel. I can't wait for what you watch next.
I became absolutely obsessed with this movie when it first came out (I would have been 9 or 10). I watched the first tv show obsessively, read most of the books, I had an imaginary friend who was a dragon, the works really. And I've loved following the 2nd and 3rd movies and maturing with them.
What I like about this movie is that it doesn't paint Stoic as some sort of villain, Stoic had every reason to hate Dragons, in his mind they hurt his kid and killed his wife and Stoic WAS ashamed for Hiccup because he wasn't able to kill dragons and killing dragons in this society is far more important then sports, they come in, burn down the village and steal their food, granted they did so under the influence of a Queen, but no one knew this until Hiccup discovered it. It also shows that Hiccup tried too hard being somebody he is not and it also makes sense why he would be that way, it is because it was instilled into him from a very young age that dragons are evil, heck the Dragon Manual shows you how the vikings see dragons and many of them are vicious and dangerous, Hiccup learns this in the show Dragonriders, not all dragons are nice or misunderstood, there are some vicious ones out there. Hiccup was just lucky that the dragon he started trusting wasn't vicious. But yeah, this movie was great, there are some that argue that the red death is a weak villain and to them I say, this wasn't about the villain, it was purely about Hiccups Journey into adulthood and becoming accepted by accepting who he is and walking his own path, not the path that everyone expected him to follow. The Red Death is just there for Hiccup to show how much he has grown as a character and to show that Stoic, for all his flaws, was able to see that and finally told his son that he was proud of him, not because of what he expected him to be, but because he became better then he could have ever expected. And that isn't even mentioning how much character they gave to a roll that doesn't speak a single word the entire movie. Toothless is just the most adorable thing ever.
When I was little (I was 4 when this released) I never had the attention span to watch this movie, I thought they were nothing more than the title said and I assumed the same for the rest But after watching them a few months ago I regret not watching the trilogy sooner. Honestly this is in my top 10 favorite movies and that’s saying a lot (I watch a lot of movies) I love the storyline, the music, the soundtrack, and characters, I just love it all This movie is so iconic and I now understand why These movies are so much more than just movies about a boy training a dragon
Same Clariss same I always heard great things about this movie franchise never knew how great they was until now I recently got all of them and the game lol
If you liked this then you'll love Meet The Robinsons! Just passing to drop this comment, will add more later (edited). I'm back! So when this first came out, I saw it in 3D! The scene with Hiccup,, Astrid and Toothless flying through the sky in 3D was spectacular! It's one of those movies, like Dredd, that uses 3D to help tell the story rather than a gimmick. Gerald Butler was busy around this time! He did this, Gamer and Law Abiding Citizen! The last one still have audiences divided.
I ended up watching this movie a few days ago just so I could watch this reaction video to it. Now I feel like I should watch the other ones so I could watch the other reaction videos. 😂
Phew, so watching this movie brings me BACK. I watched it in my first semester of college, and I was inspired to write an essay about how the film reflected the extremely conservative, Islamophobic, homophobic world I was raised in, and it essentially said to me, "Yeah, they say these things like they're true. But you being closer to right, to love? You're allowed to talk about it there. They're gonna fight you on it, but that doesn't matter, because someday, people will hear you and they will agree, and anyone who tells you that any other person shouldn't have the right to live because they were born in a certain manner they don't like? They're not going to win, because the people heard *you* and that's shit that's worthy of being believed."
Hi Clariss! I found you from Tim’s channel and I’m definitely not sure why I didn’t subscribe to your channel before now but here we are 😅 As for the current video, I LOVE this movie so much 😊❤
I just started watching your channel and I enjoy your reaction and how you explain some of the more technical aspects that is regular people know nothing about. I don't know if you ever react to shows but I would love to see your reaction to Julie and the Phantoms on Netflix. It is silly but also deep, it has amazing music and the acting is generally great!
I'm SUPER happy that you LOVED this movie too!! Believe it or not, I was only 10 when the first movie came out (I'm 22 now), and I remember BEGGING my Mom to take me to see this movie in theatres because the trailers for the movie looked sooo good!! I remember LOVING this movie and the other 2 to pieces!!! I also went to see 2 and 3 in theatres opening weekend as well!!! I've rewatched these movies sooo many times I can almost quote the whole thing now!!! I even got my best friend Ally to watch these movies with me one weekend a few years ago, as she LOVES dragons, and there her favorite mythical creature ever! So.... I had a hunch that she would LOVE them just as much as I do, and she did!!!!
I saw the first one basically on accident because I messed up the movie times and didn’t want to wait 2 hours for the movie I intended to watch at the theater and I loved it. I expected the sequels to not be good since so many can be just cash grabs but they were great as well.
I prefer the shows to the movies but it'll take a bit too long for her to watch through unless shes REALLY comitted cuz id also recomend watching the shows
Wow, this one got to you a bit. Great reaction, it is a heartwarming story even if we have heard it told in different ways our entire lives. Be well and thanks again.
l remember watching this for the first time when my friends invited me over for dinner this movie was great and l was so happy to see a cool dragon movie, glad you enjoyed it so much have a great day fam
Apparently seeing this in IMAX 3D was amazing! And also I love that this movie was brave enough to show the consequences of brave, dangerous actions. All the time you see kid heroes winning without a scratch. It's nice they injected some consequences.
You where right about your speculation about Hiccup. Is somewhat of a pacifist. And will refrain from killing if not absolutely possible. Like in the end with the Red Death. It was the only way to end her reign. And it was for the better of many other lives. “The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few.” You should definitely watch the other movies as well ❤️
Clariss, I love your unadorned reaction & all your comments. I also lovve your choice of cloth, make-up & accessories, but I especially notice this time that you are *so brazenly beautiful.* Please don't starve us for *your unadorned face & pure expressions* for they were a spcial prize to behold.
I only saw this movie in the summer. Became a favorite. I felt really bad for Hiccup the whole time and really had a hard time forgiving Stoick, even after he learned. Of course Hiccup ends up connecting better with the other mistreated creature on the island. The villagers wanted nothing to do with him and Toothless helps guide him to be the best version of himself. Berk lucked out he was the forgiving type. Stoick really had very little interest in being around his son or even attempting to understand or listen until he thought his son was good at what he does. I mean I get that from the other kids, but I also know they take cues from adults. IMO Stoick needed to learn more than Hiccup did.
While I have always loved your commentaries and simply awesome personality, that commercial was the best I've seen in literal decades. You are definitely john wick level awesome and engaging.
the story is overdone, stereotypical, generic even , but the story-TELLING is so well delivered and expressed in such a way that it MOVES you and INSPIRES you. HTTYD makes me cry, all of them.
Toothless was accepting death, it had nothing to do with him not being scared of hiccup. He was tied up and accepted that he was about to be killed. Idk how reactors keep mistaking that for toothless not being scared, or not taking him seriously. He was most definitely scared, because to him hiccup was just like any other human a killer. He was injured and tied up, how else would toothless have reacted other then closing his eyes and laying there waiting to be killed. Adding that toothless never saw hiccup as weak. The entire bonding montage, as menacing as toothless looked, he was afraid of hiccup and kept his distance.
His dad is insanely caring and understanding throughout the whol;e movie. I get that its shown through the eyes of the kid, but image you are in a society where you are now an old man and have seen your best friends be killed by horrific beasts one by one throughout your whole life. Thats all youve known. And You live in a patriarchal society where youve been taught to be in charge and you take it seriously, always willing to put your own life at risk to save the people you are responsible for. You want the best for your son and have no reason to believe befriending the killer monsters is a sane option. You dont want him wondering off alone to die, and you want him to be a productive member of society, and you have your own hopes and dreams about him becoming the leader like you are... Given that whole perspective, he's damn caring and thoughtful Id say. Just something to consider.
Tbh, I think HTTYD is more thought out than Kung Fu Panda. Or at least better written since Kung Fu Panda 3 is one of its weaker stuff cause from the 1st to the 3rd movie, it's pretty fucking solid. Like I haven't really heard anything bad about any in the levels as Kung Fu Panda 3.
Love this movie and franchise, IMO, hands down the best animated trilogy by far!!! With the next one, there is an adorably cute, live action promo, "Kit Harington and Toothless' Lost Audition Tapes" that you should definitely watch. Kung Fu Panda is great and lots of fun, but Po in particular never really shows much in the way of character development or growth, he just levels up skills. I also feel that while it works really well for the first 2 movies, by the 3rd, having all 3 movies centered around concepts of identity, just gets to be too repetitive. HTTYD, on the other hand is all about mixing it up and really emphasizes, the amount of character development and growth throughout.

Toothless is just the most adorable thing ever.
also, one more comment, its kinda funny that toothless waits till stoic apologies before he shows him hiccups safe. smart dragon indeed
This trilogy is the best since Shrek
When I was little (I was 4 when this released) I never had the attention span to watch this movie, I thought they were nothing more than the title said and I assumed the same for the rest
But after watching them a few months ago I regret not watching the trilogy sooner. Honestly this is in my top 10 favorite movies and that’s saying a lot
(I watch a lot of movies)
I love the storyline, the music, the soundtrack, and characters, I just love it all
This movie is so iconic and I now understand why
These movies are so much more than just movies about a boy training a dragon
Same Clariss same I always heard great things about this movie franchise never knew how great they was until now I recently got all of them and the game lol
Ah, my all time favorite movie
It's so cute how overprotective toothless is when it comes to Hiccup😍😍love to see it honestly
I may be basic but this has to be my favorite movie, I'm so glad you enjoyed (even tho I cried when you cried)
This is one of my favorite movies! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I personally think this is the greatest animated trilogy of all time.
Along with Kung Fu Panda
I saw this movie in theaters and thought it was fun. I've now seen it maybe 50 times. I can't wait for your reaction to the sequels.
I'm only two videos into your channel and... you're incredible. I wish you love, kindness, and success
I ended up watching this movie a few days ago just so I could watch this reaction video to it.
Now I feel like I should watch the other ones so I could watch the other reaction videos. 😂
Awwwww I love reactors watch this saga for the first time!!!!!😭😭😭😭🤭🤭🤭👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉 Waiting the reactions for the next 2!!!!
I love your intellectual approach to analyzing this film!!
Definitely watch the other two movies in this trilogy - it's my favorite trilogy of all time, and every movie is perfect.
Oh yeah, prepare thyself for a legit epic trilogy of emotions and visuals : D
Toothless is so adorable
There is actually a show that takes place between the first and second movie that I recommend watching first
I prefer the shows to the movies but it'll take a bit too long for her to watch through unless shes REALLY comitted cuz id also recomend watching the shows
Love this movie so much ❤❤
This series is amazing, all three of them are fantastic. The second is my favorite, but the last one is still the perfect end to the series
Toothless reminds me of my daughter's cat Jedi. I wish I saw this movie in theaters on the big screen.
AWESOME movie, the score, and direction.
Wow, this one got to you a bit. Great reaction, it is a heartwarming story even if we have heard it told in different ways our entire lives. Be well and thanks again.
Watched this in a cinema and made the flying scenes just extra amazing to watch
l remember watching this for the first time when my friends invited me over for dinner this movie was great and l was so happy to see a cool dragon movie, glad you enjoyed it so much have a great day fam
Apparently seeing this in IMAX 3D was amazing! And also I love that this movie was brave enough to show the consequences of brave, dangerous actions. All the time you see kid heroes winning without a scratch. It's nice they injected some consequences.
This is one of the best and perfect animated movies I have seen in my generation
Where it all began and and how I greatly miss it
(At 6:00) To me, Toothless looks like a giant black newt… with wings.
You where right about your speculation about Hiccup. Is somewhat of a pacifist.
And will refrain from killing if not absolutely possible. Like in the end with the Red Death. It was the only way to end her reign. And it was for the better of many other lives. “The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few.”
You should definitely watch the other movies as well ❤️
(At 23:40) he can't go anywhere, if he's stuck in the middle of the flock.
what did you think of the tail at the end,red with a white symbol on it.
Animated or not, the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever. Watch the other 2 movies.
It is such a beautiful wholesome movie.
I think you should react to riders of berk next
I love this franchise loved the reaction
Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy
Underrated channel
I watched this on DVD so much my xbox 360 (which doesn't have an auto replay setting) some how would continously play it until I would stop it
This movie is part of my childhood ☺️
Its funny how hiccup is the only one that killed a dragon
In the whole movie
Great film, great reaction. Thanks. I need to find friends like you.
Cant belive its your first time watching this movie
How to train your dragon is such a amazing movie
HTTYD is such a good pure movie, I love it! 😁❤️
While I have always loved your commentaries and simply awesome personality, that commercial was the best I've seen in literal decades. You are definitely john wick level awesome and engaging.
Awww thank you so much! It took a bit of work so I really appreciate it 😊
the story is overdone, stereotypical, generic even , but the story-TELLING is so well delivered and expressed in such a way that it MOVES you and INSPIRES you. HTTYD makes me cry, all of them.
16:48 that's actully dragon nip kinda like cat nip
Grew up watching these and love the first 2 the third is just okay
Thank you for the warmest wishes
This my favorite childhood movie.
Stoick: They killed hundreds of us
Hiccup: and we killed thousands of them
Exactly how are they any different from the dragons?
part 2 pls
Cute hair for a cute movie! :)
