- Chattanooga City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod was pulled over for having an expired registration.
She was not driving, but the man driving her vehicle did not have a license. After he was cited, Coonrod told the officer to call then Chief of Police Fred Fletcher, and asked the officer who her sergeant was. She then threatened to call the sergeant about the incident.
Driving with no license, no proof of insurance, and expired registration and then getting an attitude as if somehow you’re being mistreated. What a yeasty gash.
And they’re the first ones to scream privilege.

Edit to add that when cops think the law doesn't apply to them, they should be held accountable and face the max penalty for whichever law they broke bc they are meant to uphold the law so if they break it they should be accountable and it shouldn't be taxpayers that pay settlements, it should be the individual cops involved, maybe then they'd think twice about breaking laws

She apologized for her behavior only AFTER the bodycam video was released. That tells me all I need to know about her character. The officer was lucky the incident was recorded. There's no telling what kind of lies she might have accused the officer of.

WHY do sooo many people fail to have their drivers’ licenses (and insurance and registrations)? This is absurd! I always have my license and my registration and insurance is in the glove compartment. It’s not like it’s some surprise that you’ll need these things, if you get pulled over or in an accident.

I've always been curious with these types of situations, every jurisdiction should have policies in place that protect officers from politicians abusing their powers, the counsel woman made it very clear to point out who she was and kept asking her to give her name, trying to intimidate her, she should be removed from counsel.
For so many people it seems that their default is uncooperativeness, disrespect, and sometimes open hostility. No one likes to be pulled over; it's just common sense to try to make the experience as smooth as possible for everyone. Being polite is a sign of good upbringing. Showing respect for someone in authority doesn't hurt either.
Not to mention showing respect to a public servant like a LEO who puts sometimes his life on the line to protect us, the people.

Do a quick Google search on her. The headline of the first article on her says something to the effect of "From Convict to Councilwoman". She now works for a T-Mobile Call Center while doing her job as a councilwoman, though I have no idea why somebody working in either of those occupations is out on the streets of Chattanooga just before 2 in the morning.

Regarding the insurance card, she SAID she would accept an online copy as proof and while they were looking for it she said she would be "right back." Instead of coming back to see if they had it (which they did) she issued a ticket for no insurance. That was the lie. And I have NO respect for police officers who lie to citizens, especially since being in a position of public trust they should hold themselves to a higher standard. Then there was that old trick about "the tickets already been written." While its true that an officer cannot destroy a ticket once its already been written, they CAN elect not to actually issue it. They just need to explain the reason to their supervisor which, in THIS case, would be that they showed her proof of insurance.
Get your head out of your ass and face reality. This cop WANTED to nail these people with as much as she could!

More concerned with holding the police officer accountable for some perceived “wrongdoing” by just doing her job than she is holding the man driving the car she’s in accountable for breaking the law. What a shocker.

I don't think anybody thinks the man shouldn't have received a ticket for driving without a license. I have yet to see a comment where anyone debated that. The problem is the officer was out of line and the councilwoman tried to use her position as entitlement to get out of tickets.
The was giggling to her partner in the car once she found out who she had pulled over. Then the tone of her voice, immediately following, sounded overly excited to write them some tickets. The officer felt she was disrespected, because the individuals in the car raised their voices so she could hear them. So just because they raised their voices, she was ready to write some tickets before she even got in the car. She acted childish in the car. Then she also lied, saying she would be back to see the insurance. When she got back she already had a ticket and said they should have flagged her down. In all my life, I have never heard an officer tell someone to flag them down and I've been pulled over quite a few times and I've seen tons of videos of cops pulling people over. Police officers usually tell the people to stay in their car and they will be right back. She came back and basically told them she didn't have all night, so she wrote them a ticket anyway. The councilwoman was in the wrong, the man driving was in the wrong, and the officer was in the wrong. None of these adults handled themselves well during that traffic stop.
