thank you for showing me the links I have joined the Cryptarchy but I don't think I'm going to do much other than just be happy that I joined it and probably look a bit.
I don't think the crystals are supposed to be quartz. It think it's supposed to be glimmer. Either from decayed engrams or some piece of machinery aboard the colony vessel that produces glimmer and generates engrams. Would help explain why there's so much of it and how it grew so quickly. As to the start of the curse, I prefer the Wilhelm theory over the Rahool one, but knowing that dialogue and what the bones look like (you can find them today still), it's possibly neither. The bones you see are mostly made up of hive (which makes sense, it was a hive spawn point), and the voices aswell seem to have that same inhaling wheeze we associate with hive knights and the like. What if the curse was laid upon the cave by the Hive to prevent Guardians from plundering its depths without consequence? Using the engrams as a lure to ensnare Guardians and force them to murder eachother and/or drain their lifeforce as they carried the cursed engrams.
My personal theory is that the Curse was actually created by an Ahamkara. My first piece of evidence is how the Curse fits with how Ahamkara deal with wishes. They will grant it, but there is always a catch. Grasp of Avarice seems to have a seemingly endless amount of loot. Wilhelm-7 says that at the end of every loot cave, he finds an entrance to an even bigger loot cave. I find it hard to believe that the Exodus ship would have so many engrams packed into it. Plus, all of Wilhelm-7's fireteam, excluding their Ghosts, became obsessed with the loot. They got what they wanted, but they ended up loosing so much more, their sanity and their lives. Another piece of evidence is the crystals. Like Myelin mentioned, these crystals are similar to the ones in the Dreaming City, albeit with different properties. These crystals apparently feed on greed. The chunks where you bank the engrams are called Icons of Excess, and when you bank enough of them, the Icons grow larger. Wilhelm-7's corpse has these crystals growing out of him,, likely feeding off of his lasting greed. The engrams you collect aren't real engrams, more akin to the ones the Trickster was making in Forsaken. These Engrams explode after a short while and when you pick them up, you absorb them and unless you get rid of them, they will kill you. The only other way to prevent the debuff from killing you is to get more engrams. Essentially, these things encourage you to be greedy. And lastly there is another type of engram you find in the Dungeon. There are several grayed out engrams in the early section of the Dungeon. These engrams serve no purpose, however Shaw Han gives an explanation on these Engrams. Here's a quote of him explaining these things: Shaw shows you a cracked piece of crystal, faded and gray. It almost looks like- "It almost looks like a piece of an engram, right?" Shaw says. "But dead, calcified, empty. Engrams don't act like this. Once their data is drained, they decompile. It's weird." I believe that these Engrams are actually made from the crystals we see throughout the Dungeon, that they break off and take these forms because Engrams mean loot, and loot makes people greedy. The Engrams we collect from the ads feed off of their greed, but once you kill them, the crystal Engrams need to feast on your greed to sustain themselves. That's why if you don't get more crystal Engrams, they will eventually kill you. And to truly get rid of them, you must return them to the Icon of Excess, essentially feeding the crystals your greed. Your desires. Just like how the Ahamkara grant wishes to feed on desires.
@@sirflapfla97 I'll admit this one took me awhile. I first had the idea when I heard about the Curse and that the Loot in the caves seemed to be endless. I wasn't so sure at first, but after some research my theory started to make more sense.
Given the nature of paracausality in the Destiny universe, it would make sense that his greed and unwillingness to let anyone have his treasure could extend his will beyond death and curse the treasure to place a burden upon whoever tries to take it. So basically what Myelin said.

9:15 If anyone is wondering about that Exo thing, it's pretty easy to put. In short (By what I know of), Wilhelm was one of those Exo's that didn't feel comfortable just being an Exo, so in lore about Exo's there was a way for them to get modified that would help them retain some part human as they were given blood-like fluid into them, feel pain like human (Exo's in-game already yell when critically wounded but for this it was just feeling pain like you weren't made out of metal), and even have some male reproduction fluid put into him. that was pretty much it
Engrams are just programmable matter. Same with Glimmer. There's nothing saying that the curse can't just be a modification that Wilhelm made in all of his engrams so if anyone other than him picks them up they will detonate similar to the tricksters Trap engrams.

As much as I love the lore of this game… I can’t recall the difference between cryptarchs. I just remember as soon as I heard about it I only went to the Reef for my engrams. Possibly it was placebo but I also never felt ripped off after decrypting in the Reef.
Notice how his name is Wilhelm also... He's our One Eyed Willie by name because there is only one "I" in Wilhelm but 2 in Willie. Get it, One "I" Willie 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I love when bugie makes player behavior in game canonical lore. Like how its in the lore that guardians dance a lot and regularly throw themselves off the tower
I like to think it was the Nine, they used the Engrams in there to test Guardian greed, thanks to Dares Of Eternity, we know they can bend reality to some extent, they can't create bodies for themselves, but can bend reality to an unknown extent. I like to think they stopped allowing loot to appear from the cave, but eventually during Season of The Lost, Wilhelm's fireteam is exploring the Skywatch when they notice Engrams from the old Loot Cave, they chase Randal in and fall under the curse of greed by the Nine, eventually Wilhelm is the only one left alive sitting on his "loot throne", his body no longer functional from severe damage during the journey, but his mind still kept alive by the curse. The Nine open the cave again for Guardians at the same time Xur starts the Dares of Eternity, and Shaw Han on patrol found a piece of an Engram near the cave. For some reason most of the Engrams there no longer function, but still remain. The traps might have ben made by the Fallen, Nine, or Wilhelm. However we look at it, Wilhelm is doomed to live forever watching Guardians take the loot he greedily sought. Perhaps the Nine now use this as a reminder to us Guardians to not be greedy, or it could destroy us like it did Wilhelm, who knows why the Dungeon is the way it is, the Nine work often in subtle and mysterious ways, they find us Guardians to be interesting.
Thing is, the crystals grow when they draw out the burden of riches. Which means that us completing the dungeon and continuing to feed the crystals with our greed just perpetuates the curse.
Remember the old ARG Bungie did and when someone figured it out there was a note to decrypt as well as some coins and the note red "2 coins and a blue"?
I like to think that the crystals that you deposit the engrams in are the source of the curse, which Wilhelm's curse created. Because of the skulls and if you don't give back the loot you took then the curse consumes you. And if you deposit enough engrams to the source of the curse, that weakens the curse and makes the bosses drop their immunity shields. Anyway that's my theory
maybe as you mentioned ahamkara’s there will be something to do with discovering their are bones in the cave or smth and it’s actually an ahamkara curse like he wished to keep his riches forever. however i do think your theory is very cool.
I have another theory kinda goes with your fist one, siva. I know sounds crazy but hear me out. The colony ships all carried siva to help build new colonies or what ever they needed and it’s common knowledge that a couple tried to leave earth during the collapse but never left the ground. What if the siva on board got the order from Rasputin for carrhae white which I’m pretty sure was to create weapons to arm as many people in the collapse but while working on that the darkness hit and Rasputin went dark to save himself. And for how ever long the siva stayed dormant until the colony ship was knocked down and stated making gear again and the hive just happens to pick some up like “oh what in the name of oryx is this” and as the hive are being killed the siva is like oh the weapons killing the evil aliens is more effective than what I got so I’ll start making as close to what the guardians are using (maybe explains why some purples went to blues) and the burn and crystals come from the siva nanites like how our guardians where affected by them in D1. And the burn is from the raw nanites and the siva is corrupted by the hive/fallen and the guardians that try to plunder the loot cave I know a bit of a stretch but an idea I had.
I know they have no plans of bringing back the plaguelands but it would be interesting to see what happened after we left, especially since we don't see any of the routes available from the cosmodrome anymore
Rahool has always been the devil. I agree he’s the one manipulating all from behind the scenes. Truly the most sinister being in Destiny. We should destroy him now before it’s too late. And to avenge our D1 characters for all the BS he put them through. Mostly for the BS though. Who’s with me!?! Okay…. “For the puppies!”
very much [Paracausally]-influenced it seems. [mumbled] (or it was supported by a *[Darkness Zone]* around in that area where they kept going deeper as the Days go by. making their defenses not entirely immune with both Lightbearer Guardian & Ghost). if such as that tempting effect able to go through to a Lightbearer Guardian's like Wilhelm. though it became stronger after he Stupidly....severed himself at the end.
Rahool is the master of our hive worm. We gotta satiate it with our theme (hive being killing, Savathun about tricking, guardians about hoarding) or we'll be killed. If we don't do it we'll die (prob leave Destiny). I just made that up but it sounds nice to me.
I remember when you first exited the wall in D1, and the ketch and skiffs come in, one of the colony ships falls over. Could this be the one that fell over? I can't remember if the ship falls in the D2 version.

Remember the old ARG Bungie did and when someone figured it out there was a note to decrypt as well as some coins and the note red "2 coins and a blue"?
You can just casually see his wife in the background, as the video ends lol. Wasn't expecting the door to be open this video tbh
Ghost casually says “I almost just stuck with the other guy”
maybe as you mentioned ahamkara’s there will be something to do with discovering their are bones in the cave or smth and it’s actually an ahamkara curse like he wished to keep his riches forever. however i do think your theory is very cool.
Myelin in stream:Gordon Ramsey Myelin on RUclips: Bob Ross
oh nice i didnt know it was all a goonies reference, or that randel the vandel was lore accurate
I'd really like some more long cave areas in destiny. They're some of the coolest areas to explore
This format is great. Keep it up man. 👍🏻
Willhelm is also a baddy from borderlands franchise with an eye patch as well lol
Dune(Jessica): "A million deaths are not enough for Doctor Huey".
RAHHOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL. Happy new year dude will drop into stream when I can
everytime i do the dungeon i slowly become wilhelm as my friend keeps getting my eyaslunas
I know they have no plans of bringing back the plaguelands but it would be interesting to see what happened after we left, especially since we don't see any of the routes available from the cosmodrome anymore
Master “big blue boss man himself”Rahool
I remember exotic engrams turning into purples in D1 rahool is a eviiiiil man
Rahool has always been the devil.
I figured it wasnt a curse as much as he just got mad with greed, he also went mad being stuck down there
I said in my first run that the dungeon was a Goonies Easter egg haha well done
And this is why I love Bungie the absolutely amazing story telling ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow how good of a theory and explanation brotha!! I can’t believe bungie caned you for the lord stuff!! God speed!! Great video!!
Myelin: “RM80 is probably met to be said like a pirate.
RM80: Am I a joke to you?
The final shape is an engram
Confirmed. We found it, Guardians.
Seems like this would be a great idea to drop during season of plunder.
Holy sheet, this is such a cool breakdown.
Wolf spent eons making the script. Hope he's okay. Oh and Matt helped I guess Kappa
Myelin Destiny lore, proudly made (in sweatshops) in Australia!
wow great video. This was very inciteful.
Excellent video Myelin! I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie made this Canon later down the road. 🤣🤣
It's the Goonies. Wilhelm is One Eyed Willy. Yes, I'm fucking old. All we are missing is the giant squid battle. It's amazing.
Jokes on you Wilhelm, all that god roll loot...Sunset
The truest burden.
How wicked is this game.
very much [Paracausally]-influenced it seems.
It wasn't sometimes. Its was all the time. Getting a purple from the purple emgram was rare AF.
Very cool Matt!
I can't remember if the ship falls in the D2 version.
very much enjoy your lore mate ggs
Ooohhh I’ve been waiting for this one
Plus the boss and his right-hand men emerge from the poop-deck!
Rahool needs to become a raid boss already
If Wilhelm wanted exotics he should’ve just farmed Lake of Shadows Grandmaster 4HeAd
i appreciate myelin becoming a hammer man
Rahool!!! Love your work and your explanations.
I always assumed that the crystals in the cave were supposed to be giant salt crystals, a reference to players getting salty over loot.
Styelin Games with another RUclips video
What a bloody leg end
RAW - HOOL my dude. otherwise i loved the vid, awesome theory and great work with tying it with d1
Crashed colony ship and engrams we can't explain sounds like either SIVA or Ahamkara
I like to think it’s the only wish Rahool ever made :P
