The Gettysburg trilogy is the best thing Ripper Owens has ever put his voice to, and I like him a lot. A total tour de force that does the story of the 3 day battle at Gettysburg justice.
Huge IE fan here and glad to see you do this! I just got four more of their vinyls in the mail from Greece! I have all the CD’s but slowly building my vinyl collection of theirs! I love all the different singers too! Cheers man!
Cool ranking Darcy and good to hear your thoughts on the albums. Agree that they have a very strong discography. For me the Glorious Burden is my favourite, I have a few other albums of theirs but that one can't be beat. If you've not got it, Days of Purgatory is worth picking up, some great versions of early songs with Barlow on vocals.
Yes I really need to pick up Days Of Purgatory, I’ve heard it plenty but have never owned a copy. Hope everything is going good your way 🤘 Cheers Grant
Thanks for doing this band. I've been a massive fan and have seen them a few times. They killed it live and pray these guys can come back and Jon can make this band happen again.
Thanks Darcy, I have been requesting this for close to a year. Outstanding job. By the way, still jamming Winger, Seven. One of my favorite albums over the last few years. Thanks, buddy.
Great band. Jon Schaffer is a legend in the riff world. Most metal bands in the thrash-ish world like these guys are write song after song about not trusting or protesting against the government. Jon Schaffer actually shows up and protests, voicing his distrust in person. Doesn’t get much more metal than that. 🤘🤘🤘

Nice work Darcy! I too have been looking forward to this one. Something Wicked This Way Comes was the fist album I bought by the band back in 1998. It's a great disc. I've followed them since then. Are you a fan of Into Eternity? They are a great band. Dave Mustaine took them out on the Gigantour 2 tour in North America in 2006. This peaked my interest in the band. I really like the discs Stu Block did with Iced Earth. He's so versatile as a vocalist. How was the Testament/Kreator show? I look forward to your Annihilator ranking!

Hi Darcy. So I'm wondering, do you know the debut of Withering Scorn - Prophets Of Demise? It was released by Frontiers records 2023. Glen Drover, Shawn Drover, Joe DiBiase ex-Fates Warning and singer Henning Basse. It is excellent. A bit like their former band Eidolon.

I´ll grab "Something Wicked" now from my girlfriends collection...
Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked This Way Comes are my top 3 from Iced Earth. I'll have to say though, I didn't listen to any of their albums post Framing Armageddon so I can't comment on the newer stuff.
Well, if you want to give the newer stuff a shot I highly recommend Dystopia. If you check it out let me know what you thought. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with me, always appreciated 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I am a huge Iced Earth fan and have been since the 90’s. Really liked every release through The Glorious Burden. Honestly, the two Framing Armageddon albums were so bad that it killed any interest I had in new music from the band.
One of my all time favorite bands. Jon is up there with one of my favorite rhythm players. Some of their stuff is deceptively hard to play. 12. The Crucible Of Man 11. Incorruptible 10. Plagues Of Babylon 9. Framing Armageddon 8. Iced Earth 7. The Glorious Burden 6. Dystopia 5. Burnt Offerings 4. Night Of The Stormrider 3. Horror Show 2. Something Wicked This Way Comes 1. The Dark Saga On the subject of Matt Barlow, have you checked out his band Ashes Of Ares? 3 albums that aren't reinventing the wheel, but they're all great. Cheers Darcy!
I think rankings are fun to watch when it’s one of your all-time favourite bands! You’re like let’s see if old Papa6Stings has a clue here ha ha. I know of Ashes Of Ares, never heard any of the albums. Thank you I’ll put them on next weeks play list. Thanks as always for taking the time to hang out with me & thanks for sharing your ranking 🤘 See you in the next one!
1. Burnt Offerings 2. Horror Show 3. Something Wicked This Way Comes 4. Night of the Stormrider 5. The Glorious Burden 6. The Dark Saga 7. Dystopia 8. Incorruptible 9. Framing Armageddon 10. The Crucible of Man 11. Iced Earth 12. Plagues of Babylon
The tragic thing with Iced Earth is that I can"t take Barlows gothic influenced voice. Love the first two singers and albums. Our group of metalheads went at least to 6-7 shows on the first two european tours because they were so great live back then. And yes, Schaffer is the king of fast riffs. As good as Hetfield and Jeff waters. The glorious burden is the third album I love. Great songs and Rippers best vocal performance. So my ranking is: 1. Iced Earth 2. The glorious burden 3. Night of the stormrider The music on the Barlow albums is great but if you hate a voice you are out. Stu Block has a good voice but the songs are only good. I am sure if the bullshit ends well for Schaffer he will write a great record and Stu Block is perfect for it. Well done Darcy.
I totally get you on the vocals, I’m that way with a few bands too. Yeah I can’t see this ending well for Jon, just the magnitude of what went down. I mean we all have done dumb stuff in our lives, just some dumber than others. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Thomas
I never warmed up to Stu Block. I totally didn't care for "Dystopia" and while I thought that "Plagues of Babylon" was a bit better I never bothered getting the last one. So I fell off before having to make a decision wether I'm ready to still support the Band after Schaffer turned out to be the way he turned out to be. 11. Dystopia: I haven't heard it in years. Can't say I remember any of the Songs. I heard it a couple of times when it came out. Not a big Fan of Stu Block's voice, to be honest. 10. Framing Armageddon: I like Ripper. Didn't have a problem with him being Barlow's replacement. Liked the first Album with him. But this didn't click with me at all. I love TEN THOUSAND STRONG. I remember being somewhat fine with the track FRAMING ARMAGEDDON but at this point I hardly remember it. Haven't heard it in quite some time. 9. Plagues of Babylon: Still not a big Fan of Block's voice but I do like a couple of the Songs. For example CTHULHU, THE CULLING, PEACEMAKER and even the HIGHWAYMAN-Cover. Not an Album I listened to a lot, though. 8. The Crucible of Man: I guess this and the last one are somewhat interchangable. It feels like this is an Album that's just there. Barlow sounds good. As with the one before I like some of the Songs, for example CRUCIFY THE KING, DIVIDE DEVOUR, I WALK ALONE. It's above PoB because Barlow over Block. 7. Horror Show: I remember buying this the Saturday before the release day. For some reason the store put it out already. I went in there about 10 minutes before closing time, though. I like it. At the same time it's an Album I kinda get tired of somewhat fast and don't have to listen to it all that much. But after a good break I can easily get back into it for a while. 6. The Glorious Burden: I recall that Album getting a lot of flak among the people I know. Felt too patriotic for many. I do understand that to a degree. But it really pertains to only two or three Songs and even those are fine. I never really got into the Gettysburg-Trilogy. 5. Iced Earth: The Singer isn't all that good. Took some getting used to and I prefer the Versions with Barlow. But it is a good Album with fine Songs. 4. Something Wicked This Way Comes: At this point it gets tough. This and the next two could probably change places at any given day. 3. Burnt Offerings: Interestingly enough I got this pretty late. I think around the time HORROR SHOW was released. Not really a conscious choice, just happened that way. 2. The Dark Saga: My first one, had quite an impact on me. I still listen to it ... 1. Night of the Stormrider: Singer is fine. Not close to Barlow. I prefer his Versions and would've love had he done not just all of them but had they just re-recorded the Album with him (first one, too) instead of doing most those Songs for DAYS OF PURGATORY. But even with the original Singer this Abum is undeniable it became my favorite rather quickly. And this one is not interchangable with any of the others. Also, if I still bought their stuff (if they will continue at all) I don't think they would reach this one. Same for the others in my Top 4.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Well, you're welcome. Thanks for the video. To be honest, I just copied it from George Gs Ranking Video on which I commented a while ago. :D
Great, fairly consistent band. I hope Jon comes back and makes more music. And he did nothing wrong. He’s a patriot and I admire him. The globalist cabal can kick rocks.
@@steelerfreak1977 Very consistent! I recently had a listen to their covers album Tribute To The Gods, even that kicks ass! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Yikes, we aren't even close haha. Dark Saga, Dystopia, and Horror Show are near the bottom for me. Incorruptible is easily top 5 and The Glorius Burden just edges out Something Wicked for the top spot !!!
So cool to hear from other Iced Earth fans, always interesting to see others Top spots. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Been an Iced Earth fan since 1990, which is kind of strange since I can't stand the cringy and bloated vocals of Barlow, and Ripper and Block are shit as well. Which leaves only the first two really, and those are almost perfect. Gene Adams was much better than he gets credit for, and was a great fit for Iced (he got a "second chance" on the killer Purgatory EP). Maybe the later singers have more power and are better technically etc, but that's not necessarily important. Burnt Offering is good, and Barlow is almost tolerable here, but I wish John Greely continued on that one. The rest of the catalog is just good to ok metal with bad vocals. And the silly Spawn and cartoon concepts and covers for some of these albums are really laughable. Not a good direction after the first two classics. Sorry for the long comment🤘
I thought those two would grow on me more over the years, but they really haven’t! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Jon is a complex character he cares for his country a true patriot not saying that he didn't do wrong but maybe he sees USA making many mistakes in history. I know their finished as a band feel sorry as well for the band members. Sad situation
I can usually separate the art from the artist, but not this time. Plenty of other metal to enjoy. Zero tolerance for those fallen down the conspiracy rabbit hole...
Hey Darcy - I appreciate you can separate the politics from the music but as someone who lived in the US for a long time, I can’t get past the decisions Jon made. At some point, principles and personal character of the band leader needs to be more important than the underlying music. I refuse to give him any attention, but understand that’s just my view, don’t expect others to have the same feelings. Love you and your channel 😀, but this is one time we are not aligned. Cheers my Canadian Metal brother 🤘🤘
Jon made a very bad decision & he’s paying for it, the law should be law no matter who you are! I respect your decision not to give him any attention. See friends don’t have to agree on everything , but I would feel better if you sent me that Testament guitar 🤣😂 So awesome bro!!

@@MetalJohn1979If you had to pick your overall favourite studio album from Iced Earth what would it be? Come on you can do it 💪
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 The Dark Saga because that was my intro to Iced Earth in 1996 because of my favorite comic Spawn.
The Barlow albums are the best with dark saga being the best overall
I was listening to iced earth yesterday. My favoite something wicked this way comes and my second is night of the stotm rider
Great choices, love them both! Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Sean
Live albums are incredible 💯🤘💯💯💯
Especially Alive In Athens 🤘
Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked This Way Comes are my top 3 from Iced Earth. I'll have to say though, I didn't listen to any of their albums post Framing Armageddon so I can't comment on the newer stuff.
Well, if you want to give the newer stuff a shot I highly recommend Dystopia. If you check it out let me know what you thought. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with me, always appreciated 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I was a huge huge fan up to and including horrorshow... nothing after has interested me .. 😢
Try Dystopia one more time just for me, if you still dislike it after that just pretend I ever asked lol 🤘 Cheers Ian
12. The Crucible Of Man
11. Incorruptible
10. Plagues Of Babylon
9. Framing Armageddon
8. Iced Earth
7. The Glorious Burden
6. Dystopia
5. Burnt Offerings
4. Night Of The Stormrider
3. Horror Show
2. Something Wicked This Way Comes
1. The Dark Saga
On the subject of Matt Barlow, have you checked out his band Ashes Of Ares? 3 albums that aren't reinventing the wheel, but they're all great.
Cheers Darcy!
I think rankings are fun to watch when it’s one of your all-time favourite bands! You’re like let’s see if old Papa6Stings has a clue here ha ha. I know of Ashes Of Ares, never heard any of the albums. Thank you I’ll put them on next weeks play list. Thanks as always for taking the time to hang out with me & thanks for sharing your ranking 🤘 See you in the next one!
1. Burnt Offerings
2. Horror Show

7. Dystopia
8. Incorruptible
9. Framing Armageddon
10. The Crucible of Man

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your ranking, love seeing Night Of The Stormrider near the top. Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers Kevin
I don't give a shit about democracy, I'm just here for the music.
😂 Tankard, Kreator and Destruction would spit in your face, man.
So my ranking is:
1. Iced Earth
2. The glorious burden
3. Night of the stormrider
The music on the Barlow albums is great but if you hate a voice you are out.
Thanks for taking the time to type out such an awesome comment/ranking, super detailed! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Well, you're welcome. Thanks for the video. To be honest, I just copied it from George Gs Ranking Video on which I commented a while ago. :D
Stu is a great guy
I never met him myself, but I’ve heard he’s a nice guy!
I enjoy Alive in Athens the most …
Yeah it’s fantastic! They’ve always been great live, but that show was next level stuff! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Thanks for your work and greetings from Australia
Here’s a real metal head who listens to music & thinks. Keep rocking
Never understood the hate for Anvil. Although I'm not that into anything they've done after the first three albums. Not bad, just forgettable.
I agree with your bottom two albums. Completely forgettable albums, no memorable songs whatsoever.
I thought those two would grow on me more over the years, but they really haven’t! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy

I lost respect for Jon as a person, but not as a musician. I’ll always be a fan of the music.
Get over yourself
Luckily the world doesn’t revolve around you (or me) stop making everything about you
Piss off 😂
Jon is a complex character he cares for his country a true patriot not saying that he didn't do wrong but maybe he sees USA making many mistakes in history.
I know their finished as a band feel sorry as well for the band members.
Sad situation
I can usually separate the art from the artist, but not this time. Plenty of other metal to enjoy. Zero tolerance for those fallen down the conspiracy rabbit hole...
Your choice for sure Paul. Like you said lots of other metal to enjoy & to chat about 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Paul’s not about the music, just following every progressive headline. Paul’s like a boomer but older & believes everything. Don’t be a ‘Paul’
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Haha - I will keep the guitar 😀, but I did get an extra band signed copy of The New Order vinyl (the most recent reissue I think you passed on) - happy to send your way if interested. Let me know.
