  • Many people have been requesting a follow up to the Bulky Crochet Beanie tutorial I did before Christmas. If you enjoyed my previous beanie video you will love this one made especially for worsted weight yarn.
    This video is slightly faster paced than my previous beanie video but I will still be walking you step by step through making this crochet beanie from worsted weight yarn.

    Best video and tutorial ever!! Clear video, precise instructions, no fingers blocking the stitches so you can see what the instructor is teaching. Counts each row and the video time line is fantastic. Thank you sooo much. I make hats for a charity and learning a new hat easily is important.

    Thank you! Newbie here, was looking for 'teach me how' easy to follow video and I have found yours. Appreciate that very much. You did great! Thank you for all your work! Love that you are sitting with the camera behind so we can see real-time what you are doing. And those time stamps (as well as the speed change option) - wowza! Please keep sharing things like this one for various patterns (how to step by step).

    I just did a second hat, using the same yarn, same color, same pattern. What I really love about your tutorial is that you are facing with your back to the camera. I have a horrible time when the person teaching the tutorial is facing me. I did not know how to use a marker or how to tell where the second chain from the hook was or how to count stitches. I am now trying my hand at baby booties. I find myself going back to this tutorial to refresh my memory. As I grow old, so grows my mind! Thanks, a million thanks for sharing...

    For weeks, I have been looking for an easy hat to crochet for my dad who is currently going through chemo. After he woke up this morning to find his hair all over his pillow, I decided now was the time. This pattern is so easy. I started with the video - which btw you do a FANTASTIC job with doing the walk-through for newbies - but ended up following the written form instead. I am grateful you included it. Definitely a fan. I have a grandson on the way as well, and I don't believe I will have a problem tweaking this pattern to fit him. Thank you so much.

    Very clear instructions, love that they are written in the comments box but tried three different ways and different sizes and none gave me an adult sized hat.

    • @prettydarnadorable
      @prettydarnadorable  3 года назад +1

      +teresa payton oh no I’m sorry to hear that did you check your count at every round? And you use the same size hooks correct? I think it may come down to tension in which case I would recommend doing an additional increase round because we’re already using a 6.5 mm hook. It may be the only way to get it large enough they should make the hat about an inch larger

    I've just started crocheting to provide hats to our less fortunate fellow Tampanians. Yes, even central Florida has a few days a year where a beanie is preferred over a ball cap. A few of my coworkers tried getting me started but I didn't fully grasp the 'how to' until watching your tutorial. The cherry on top? Your mentioning how to slow the video :) :) :) I've completed my first-ever beanie and predict they'll get better from here. THANK YOU!!!!

    Excellent tutorial. I messed up so many times, I lost count. It was well over an hour before I figured it out and even so, I finished the hat in under 24 hours!!! My first official hat from a pattern!!! Previously I'd crocheted as a total amateur as I remembered my aunt teaching me when i was a kid and I'd sorta been doing it wrong and my work didn't have a very professional look so I decided to look up a proper pattern/tutorial. My work, for the first time, actually looks professional! And even though I had to rip it out 10+ times cursing myself every freakin' time, thanks for the tutorial!!!! (Part of my problem was probably using multicolored yarn.)

    • @prettydarnadorable
      @prettydarnadorable  5 лет назад +1

      Oh yes multi is hard to work with as a beginner. My tips would be to use light coloured yarn and a hook on the larger size. As a beginner your tension may be on the tight side and the larger hook will help to compensate for this making your stitches easier to work into:)
      I am so happy it all worked out!

      I agree with the comments below - be kind to yourself once you are used to holding the yarn and working with the hook it will all fall into place. Keep with it but take breaks when you get frustrated. Sometimes walking away for a bit is the best solution of all. But make sure you come back ;)

I'm pretty sure I will be able to figure this out before you may have a chance to show how to do it... however if you get a chance to post a video, I would like to use this start but then use a Thermal Stitch at the bottom in order to provide extra warmth and wind resistance around the ears.

I do end up with the correct number of stitches for each round though. I had to do a few more rows of increases to make a larger hat.Thank you for your video and pattern.

    Before coming across this video, I tried a few other videos and just couldn't get the magic circle right but this tutorial really helped so much to do it another way without the magic circle and I successfully completed my first ever crocheted beanie! This video was so extremely helpful and i most appreciated all of the tips! Thank you :) !

    Aaah this is amazing!! I messed it up a lot and after the 1000th time restarting I just gave up and ended up with 63 stitches at the end (don’t ask me how I have no clue) but the end result looks different to ur but still pretty good!!! Thank you!!

    Thanks you so much for your tutorial. The shape became very beautiful but it is a bit small. Maybe because the yarn was thinner. Is there a way to mesure it? So that the size will be suiting?

    • @garrettwillett
      @garrettwillett 3 года назад

      (edit) I just tried this pattern again and after the first row do double crochets instead of single crochets. Also use maybe a bigger hook, I used size 6mm. I'm using yarn weight 3 and the hat is coming out perfectly!

    I used to crochet alot. I started when I was 11...I used to make beanies for everyone. Also made scarfs, baby blankets, bags, granny squares, etc wanted to do a temperature afgan, but never got around to it. Well I guess I burned my self out and got distracted by life and other art projects so I got rusty and totally forgot things. I could remember the getting stated with the ring and the count pattern like 2.1.2 and increasing but I couldn't understand why my circle kept looking hexagon style and at the end looking more like a beret. This video really helped refresh my memory. I never used stitch markers before. Course every beanie pattern is different. Maybe my brain was trying to combine two old patterns I had deep in my memory lol. May have to now. Be a Fun trip to hobby lobby. Getting old is no fun. But I always love the simplicity of this style beanie. It's not fancy but it's super functional. I like how the stitches are closer nit to keep your head and ears extra warm. I'm currently trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm trying to make my finances friend who was in a bad wreck and have half his skull plate remove a beanie with a feauxhawk. He's self conscious about his head and always hides it under hats...He use to have bright green Mohawk so I'm trying to Boost his self esteem by giving him someone he use to have before the wreck. Imma even unravel and pet brush out the yarn to give it that hair like effect.

      Around 56 is usually the count I use. I believe for this pattern it would just be one less increase round :)

      I'm so glad and Yes you can! Depending how thick you want to stripes you can definitely do it - not sure how much you crochet but just make sure you do it at the end of every round. :)

    Will it make a difference if I started with a 6.00 crochet hook and transitioned to a 6.5 hook after several rows into the all single chain rows? I didn't realize you were starting with a 6.5 at the start.

    New subscriber ! Love this tutorial ! My son likes shorter hats (just above the ear ). What measurement don you suggest before switching to a smaller hook ?

    • @prettydarnadorable
      @prettydarnadorable  3 года назад +1

      Oh that makes me so happy to hear and welcome! Don’t switch to a smaller hook because that will actually make the hat too small to fit around the head just crochet about 2 to 3 rounds less seeing as it’s your son you can always try it on and either subtract or add rounds until you get the length he likes.

    Hi!
    Very nice tutorial!
    Can we make the same one with hdc?
    If yes how we will join?
    With the same way or with sl st and chain one?
    Thank you very much!!!

    • @prettydarnadorable
      @prettydarnadorable  3 года назад

      Yes, you can just use the HDC instead of the sc. Don't worry about joining. Measure when you get close to being done because you won't need to do as many rounds.
      Good luck!
