I have a tip to fit your head size. Example : your head size 20 inches divided by 4 you got 5 inches then plus 1 total 6 inches. Do your increase row until you got 6 inches width. Then stop increase and continue row 12 until desire length. In malaysia we call this kopiah also 😊
What a blessing to have people like her taking the time to share this design with us...and the printed instructions was a bonus as I like to crochet when I'm watching TV. Mari, thank you so much for such a sweet comment. I appreciate you taking the time to drop me a line. Thank you for giving back and donating to the shelter, you have a beautiful heart. ❤️
I don’t do the magic circle. I don’t like them. I just chain 4, slip stitch in the first chain, do the 11 hdc in the circle of that chain & pull the starting yarn closed tighter then do Row 2 like she says.
Everybody loved it, I modefied it to make it move snuggling, I didn't increase the double in one spot and then 4 single, I did just 2 increases in that row apart from each other and after that no increases at all and the fit is super comfy, I loved it! Thank you so much!!! Oh and I used 4mm hook and loooove it you don't know how. Tks again!
Thank you so much for this pattern! I was at a loss what to get my husband for his birthday when i stumbled upon this. Hed been asking me for a beanie. This pattern fit perfectly on his giant head. I made the folded over one. I used size 3 and size 2 yarns (wool and acrylic) until row 25 and then size 3 super fluffy yarn for the rim.
I'm fairly new to crocheting. I've made 3 babies for my girls using a different pattern. Just made this beanie for my husband (the flip up style) and he loves it so much! He said it means a lot to him. Thank you for sharing this pattern. It's really nice and really easy ❤ now to make my son one lol

New to crocheting here. Have to admit, the magic circle took me about 30 minutes to get but once i got it down it seemed pretty straightforward. Planning on making some for the increasing number of homeless in my area. I tried another pattern, and it was harder even tho it seemed simple. I love your pattern. 2024 i m a beginner crochet and I just completed the beanie hat following your step-by-step method and it came out perfect once again cuz I think I left a comment on here before but once again thank you so very much for this video and for sharing your gifts to us I appreciate you and helping me become a better crocheter 💚🦋🥰💚🦋🥰💚🙌🏾🥰💚🦋🥰 I don't know how to show you a picture of it but it came out pretty cool
My first beanie…. It’s awesome thanks to your well explained, clearly stated stitches…. I love that you say how many stitches we should end up at every row. I have a hard time starting my first stitch after the single crochet, but I’m glad you showed it, and ending is also a challenge for me… thank you for showing it clearl6 and slowly. Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial I start crochet with my grant grant mother 10 years ago when I was 13 yo. Now that I don’t have her anymore by my sides I use RUclips tutoriel to continue learning crochet so thank you very much. Take care and have a wonderful day 🥰🙏🏼
Thank you so much for the easy-to-follow tutorial and written pattern. I just made one for my son and he loves it. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity.
I just made a beanie using this pattern - looks great! It also worked up very quickly! The written pattern has some typos but I managed to work around it. My husband loves his new beanie :)
Just followed along and made my first hat!! Thank you for being so detailed and helpful! The stitch counts at each row surely helped!!! It turned out nicely!! ❤I’m encouraged and inspired!
Just finished my first beanie for my husband :) Thank you so so much for the tutorial on the magic ring! I watched so many videos trying to get it down pat and learned from you in one take! Your instructions and how many stitches we should have helped a lot! I will be coming back to your video to make more in the future :)
Hi Jenni, I just followed along with you to make my beanie and I must say, I love this pattern! I did the "slouchy" version and it's gorgeous. I used a linen color yarn from the same brand you used. Thank you a million times for such an easy and beautiful pattern. I'm going to to the "Folded edge" next. Happy crocheting and keep up the great tutorials😊
What A great Pattern For Men Thank You.I Was not Sure of 24 the Total Of Rounds Have 16 So Far.Will Continue up To 22 Plus 2 Rolls of Single Crochet Still Working Have A ❤GN
Wow! Fabulous tutorial! The only issue I had was my own fault. I used a 5.5 size crochet needle instead of the size 5 that you suggested. Therefore, the beanie came out larger than it should have. Otherwise, it looks great and has given me confidence for future projects! Thanks so much. ❤🧶❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial I appreciate as a beginner you made this so very easy for me All the men in my family will get one of these LOL... Merry Christmas guys😂😂😂😂😂
I love you video and written pattern, THANK YOU, I am not new to crochet but loves to read to pattern and watch the video too and thanks for the options (one pattern 3 DESIGNS) YES YES YES
This is so easy to follow, thank you! My husband has a big head - could you tell me how to make this a little bigger around? I’m assuming I just do another one or two increases (like, get to 88 stitches, maybe) but then I’m unsure how to do the row after I stop increasing. Your next row was 9 hdc then 2, 6 and 2, etc but if I add stitches I don’t think that will work. (I’m new at this, sorry!)
Hi! Yes, you have the right idea. For 1" larger add 4 hdc increases, 8 for 2". You can just do these in row 11. Just spread them out throughout the row. :)
Thanks for the written pattern. Then I can use that instead of wifi at home, and also while travelling. Husbands driving and using GPS so i dont need to mapread! More crocheting.
The way you explained the pattern was so simple to work up this hat! Love your magic circle technique as well! Question…I made the folded beanie and when I tried it on it was way too big so I took out some rows..when I got it to where it fit my head I noticed the row with the 9 stitch 6 stitch was noticeable in the front of the hat in my fold. Is there a remedy for that? Thanks
im using a lightweight yarn with a 4mm hook and at the row 9 measurement I had 5 inches across so I'm going to do another increase row with 1 inc and 5 sc before starting from row 10's instructions doing 10 hdc instead of 9 in the next row. I'll edit this if it worked out or not lol
Thank you! I love that your count fir the first 12 rows is always by 10. It made it so much easier to keep track of the count! Where did you get that head form! I love it!
Hi Shaelyne, I'm so glad you like the pattern. To make this for a child you would need to make less increases and rows. I do not know exactly how many but as a guide 1" = 4 hdc. Good luck & happy crocheting!
Thank you so much for your beautiful video and creation! I was looking for this type of hat & this video came right on time! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!🎉🥳🎊 I LOVE your wire mannequin! Can you share the details of where to purchase it?
Hello, thank you for this tutorial. I would like to get the written pattern because it will be much easier for me to follow if I have it printed, but when I click the above link, it brings me to a page that says "WARNING, this is a malicious site!" Might just be the browser I am using but would you please be able to post the written pattern in the description box of this video if you have time? Thank you if you can!!
Hi, I just came across your channel and wonder if you could tell me what thickness grade this yarn is. I live in Scotland and neither brand you suggest or use are available here, so I need to find an alternative, as I definitely want to make this for my hubby and father in law for Christmas. Thanks so much for your help and your videos. I love that you give not only measurements but also the stitch counts for each row. It is just so important to make sure you are getting it right. So many folks forget to do that. I have just subscribed from this video alone and cannot wait to see what else you make. I am American but moved to Scotland some years ago. Boy do I miss American yarn and their prices as yarn here is just soooo expensive. I was back home in the US last month and hit a couple of craft shops as well as Walmart. I came home with a large suitcase full of yarn, and that is more impressive because my Sister in law loaned me two storage packs that you use the vacuum to suck the air out. And the suitcase was completely full…hubby was relieved as we would have had to buy another suitcase and even doing that with all the yarn costs it would still cheaper than similar yarn! 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you once again. I hope you are staying cool and dry over there. ❤️
Hi Shelley! That's funny about all the yarn you brought home, sounds like something I would do too! The yarn that works best for this pattern is a 4-medium weight but I've also used worsted. With worsted it could turn out just slightly larger so depending what you get for the measurements you could need to go down a hook size. Good luck. 🙂
@@ByJenniDesigns Thank you Jenni! Lol hubby was convinced immigration was going to stop us and I explained anyone that has crocheted for awhile would do the same so they would not be shocked and had probably seen loads of yarn pass through. 😂 So it is good to know I am in good company doing it. When we travel, Hubby is a research scientist so he travels all over the world, I go with him and I always have to bring back a souvenir. If I can find a YS I bring back yarn, if I cannot find one near where we are staying then I come home with seeds for new plants. Since coming home hubby has put me on a yarn and plant/seed buying ban. Silly man thinks that will work 😂 Thank you for the advice for the yarn, I have something appropriate in my stash, so I will begin it tomorrow once hubby has gone to work. I hope you are having a great day! 💙
Haha, yessss, he's very funny trying to push a ban on yarn purchasing. 😂 I about have a yarn store in my house and there's still new colors or weights I need when I start a new project. 😆 Thank you so much, so far so good, I hope you have a great day as well. 🙂
Hi Jenni! I love this tutorial thank you for being so clear with your instructions! I am working up a beanie with three different colors of yarn, how would you recommend to best gauge even color block for creating the beanie with folded brim?
Hi Olivia! I actually used this pattern recently to make a 3 color block hat. I did as follows; Color 1: Rows 1-9, Color 2: Rows 10-18, Color 3: Row 19-end. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this video When you reach 7 inches I reached 9 inches ( may be because I m using woolen 2 combine yarn for more thickness) What should I do now should I stop earlier to increase
Thank you so much for your quick response but I was reach only 6th raw nd that time 6 inches Than I skip all 3 raws according to you n going to raw 10 But mine r not 66 stitches Than how can I apply that raw ( hdc in 9 n 2 hdc in next st. Then 6 hdc.....) I m sorry to bother you again 😔
I believe you meant row 11? If you want to apply this row you just need to have 9 increases within your row evenly spaced out. It may be helpful to you to see the written pattern, you can find that here: byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2014/12/mens-basic-beanie-folded-beanie-or.html?m=1
This video is so great, thank you🥰 but I have a question, when you do the slipstitch in the very first hdc, did you also do the first hdc from the next row in that very first hdc where the slipstitch is done?
Hi Monica, thank you! That's a great question! It sort of depends on your preference but I would say maybe to change the color for the last 7 or 8 rows so you would want to switch at row 26 or 27. 🙂
Hi Erica, you would need to make less increases and less rows to make it smaller. As a guide, about 4 stitches (with gauge) = 1". Good luck & happy crocheting!
Wonderful pattern and very easy tutorial to follow. Is there any way I could do this in a single crochet so the gaps aren't as big (they aren't big, I just want them smaller)? Thank you for the video. 😊
wonderful tutorial! i just have a question im tryin to make a brim beanie with a similar color but with a white brim instead of the one color, any reccomendations on how to do this?
Hi Yuki! Yes, actually, there is! I just added it to the description but you can find it here on my blog: byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2014/12/mens-basic-beanie-folded-beanie-or.html?m=1
Thanks for the pattern! Why does row 11 increase differently than the previous rows? Im using a lighter weight yarn so I need to do more increases and Im trying to figure out how/when to increase. Thanks :)
Hi! Row 11 increases differently, simply because I needed a certain stitch count for the hat and the math didn't work out perfectly. I have not made this one with a lighter weight than what's in the video, I wish I could be of more help!
I tried this beanie using a lightweight 3 merino wool and used a size 4 hook. It was working well until the 11th row. I needed to continue increasing. Is there a magical formula for increasing till we get to the size we want?
Hi Lynda! Since you are using a different weight yarn, that would be difficult for me to figure out since I've never tried it. About the only advice I can give is to lay the hat flat and measure across and then multiply by 2 to help you with getting the correct circumference. I hope it turns out for you because this would be a great hat in a lighter weight like you are using. 🙂
First came out beautiful, but is the seam in the back supposed to be straight or does it go off to a slant? The first one I made it went to a slant and it fit perfectly the second one I made I thought maybe it’s supposed to go straight and so I joined at the stitch right to the left and where you showed you joined and it went straight, but then the hat was small. What is the seam part supposed to look like thank you
I love this tutorial, thank you. I wanted a hat pattern made with hdc because I think it's a more closed stitch and thereby a warmer hat. At the 5:55 mark when you measured, my circle measured close to 3". Would I change the stitch count at some point for a men's size?
@@ByJenniDesigns Thank you, so much! I'm following along because it's the men's version with the folded brim - just what I was looking for. Thanks again. It's a great tutorial! Happy Holidays!
Hi Jenni, I'm about halfway done and the width measures 12" across. A little research online indicates almost unanimously that a men's circumference beanie is 23". It seems like this will be too big. I don't mind taking apart what I did to make it smaller. Would you recommend that?
Oh no, that is measuring a little large. I'm so sorry! Before you pull it out, if you haven't already, try it on your head so you can get an idea of how much smaller you would like it. Then, you can pull out back to row 11 🫤 and remove some of the increases. To decide how many, you'll need to measure across and see how many hdc's make up an inch or two (depending how much smaller you need it).
I love this hat and I love this pattern. I was just wondering where did you get that cool hat mannequin, it looks to be made out of wire or steel. I’d really like to find something similar for my hat displays at craft shows. Thanks
Wow this is amazing! You have created such an amazing video! Thank you for taking the time to teach this! I have a question though. If the man’s circumference is 24 inches, how do I accommodate to that. Like how should I add to it to make it bigger?
Hi Blair, thank you! To make this hat larger I suggest adding some increases in row 12. As a guide, 4 increases should make the hat about an inch larger in circumference so you might want to try 6-8 increases. 🙂
Hey I absolutely love this pattern and I’ve made these beanies for my family and friends. On my most recent one I changed up the yarn and used a 4mm hook. Are you able to increase it more? Like on row 13 (row 12 would be a row of hd) I’d hd for 10 stitches and hd twice into the next stitch then I’d hd into 7 and increase on the 8th?
Thankyou for the pattern, finished the hat but it's too small. Shall I try again with a bigger hook or add more increases ? Feeling frustrated Thanks in advance for your help
Hi Karen, using the next hook size up will increase the size but for a more accurate way of increasing you can add 4 increases for every inch bigger you would need. I hope this helps, happy crocheting!
I have a tip to fit your head size. Example : your head size 20 inches divided by 4 you got 5 inches then plus 1 total 6 inches. Do your increase row until you got 6 inches width. Then stop increase and continue row 12 until desire length. In malaysia we call this kopiah also 😊
Do u divide by 4 no matter what head size? Then add 1?

Aw, thank you. 🥰
So clean! Wow. I'm going to try this soon as I can.
You didn’t mention that at the end you seem to be crocheting on the inside rather than the outside.
I don’t do the magic circle. I don’t like them. I just chain 4, slip stitch in the first chain, do the 11 hdc in the circle of that chain & pull the starting yarn closed tighter then do Row 2 like she says.
I was able to complete my first crochet project watching this video, thank you very much 💌

im using a lightweight yarn with a 4mm hook and at the row 9 measurement I had 5 inches across so I'm going to do another increase row with 1 inc and 5 sc before starting from row 10's instructions doing 10 hdc instead of 9 in the next row. I'll edit this if it worked out or not lol
Best of luck, Lemonyeri!
Thank you! I love that your count fir the first 12 rows is always by 10. It made it so much easier to keep track of the count! Where did you get that head form! I love it!
You're welcome. 🙂 The mannequin head was from Amazon, I recently checked for someone else and they were no longer available. 🫤
Perfect for my dad for Christmas, all the tutorials are for posh ones and my dad wears slouched ones
Hello do i have to chain 1 after each row after the 12th one?
@nadamoumene3916 Yes, you chain 1 at the beginning of every row.
you are awesome. the first hat i crocheted. turned out perfect . super easy to follow you. thank you so much
You're welcome and thank you too! 😊
Awesome tutorial. Very easy to follow. Love this!!
First hat I've been able to master. Thank you so much! ☺️
Love this pattern. Was wondering how I could make a kids size
THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!🎉🥳🎊
I LOVE your wire mannequin! Can you share the details of where to purchase it?
Hi Felica! Thank you! 😁 The wire mannequin was from Amazon, I checked recently for someone else who asked and it wasn't available any longer. 🫤
Hi Jenny ! Thankyou for explaining this so well ! off to buy yarn to make the slouchy beanie for my partner :)
You're welcome, Jillibean! 😊
Thank you what a lovely pattern my beanie came out perfectly.
You're welcome, Sharron. 🙂
Thank you once again.
Silly man thinks that will work 😂
Thank you for the advice for the yarn, I have something appropriate in my stash, so I will begin it tomorrow once hubby has gone to work.
Thank you! I’ve made 2 so far!!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for sharing this video
When you reach 7 inches I reached 9 inches ( may be because I m using woolen 2 combine yarn for more thickness)
What should I do now should I stop earlier to increase
Hi Jalpa! Yes, you can try making less increases. You will also need to make less rows.
Thank you so much for your quick response but I was reach only 6th raw nd that time 6 inches
Than I skip all 3 raws according to you n going to raw 10
But mine r not 66 stitches
Than how can I apply that raw ( hdc in 9 n 2 hdc in next st.
@@ByJenniDesigns thank you 😊 I'll try
You're welcome, good luck!
This video is so great, thank you🥰 but I have a question, when you do the slipstitch in the very first hdc, did you also do the first hdc from the next row in that very first hdc where the slipstitch is done?
Hi Kate, thanks for the question. Yes, after you ss to join you will then ch 1 and hdc into that very same stitch. I hope this helps!
This tutorial is amazing!! Which row would you recommend changing colors in if you wanted the folded edge to be a different color than the crown?
Hi Monica, thank you! That's a great question! It sort of depends on your preference but I would say maybe to change the color for the last 7 or 8 rows so you would want to switch at row 26 or 27. 🙂
I had that same question! Thanks for asking it
Hello it's beautiful 😍I just want to know you make 2 hdc in 2nd row in each stitch
Hi Savita, yes, you work 2 hdc into each stitch all the way around. This will double the stitch count at the end.
Thank you I will crochet for my son today 🎉👏🏻👍
This is a nice and easy pattern. How can I adjust the size to fit my kiddo’s head?
Hi Erica, you would need to make less increases and less rows to make it smaller. As a guide, about 4 stitches (with gauge) = 1". Good luck & happy crocheting!
Loved the tutorial sooo much, thanks 😍💖
Enjoyed crocheting along with you.. thankyou
You're very welcome! Happy crocheting! 😊
Wonderful pattern and very easy tutorial to follow. Is there any way I could do this in a single crochet so the gaps aren't as big (they aren't big, I just want them smaller)? Thank you for the video. 😊
I don't have a pattern up for sc hat up yet but it can for sure be done.
@@ByJenniDesigns that’s awesome. Thanks for the quick reply. New subscriber, your videos are great.
Thank you so much, I appreciate you. 💛

Hello do i have to chain 1 after each row after the 12th one?
@@nadamoumene3916 كملت الأسطر من بعد 12 بدون الارتفاع .
wonderful tutorial! i just have a question im tryin to make a brim beanie with a similar color but with a white brim instead of the one color, any reccomendations on how to do this?
Hi & thank you! To do that, I suggest fastening off after row 25 and joining your white for row 26-end. 🙂
Thankyou so much!!@@ByJenniDesigns

Lovely tutorial and you made magic ring sooo easy 🤗
Thank you for your sweet comment. 💕
I love this, was wondering if there's a written pattern for this
Hi Yuki! Yes, actually, there is! I just added it to the description but you can find it here on my blog: byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2014/12/mens-basic-beanie-folded-beanie-or.html?m=1
@@ByJenniDesigns thanks for the link! Now I can read the design and see what I can do with different colours 😄
You're welcome! 🙂
That makes sense! Could I continue increasing by 10 every other row until i get those measurements you gave, or might that mess up the pattern?
It could work out fine, I hate to say for sure since I haven't done it myself. I'd love to hear how it turns out when you are done!
@@ByJenniDesigns I’ll let you know, thanks again!!
Excellent tutorial,making this tomorrow.Thanks.
What is the seam part supposed to look like thank you
The seam does go off to a slant. I've tried one in the round (no seam) and you do have to add quite a few increases to make it the right size.
I love this tutorial, thank you. I wanted a hat pattern made with hdc because I think it's a more closed stitch and thereby a warmer hat. At the 5:55 mark when you measured, my circle measured close to 3". Would I change the stitch count at some point for a men's size?
Hi Nicole, this pattern is for the men's size and almost a 3" measurement should still be ok. 🙂
@@ByJenniDesigns Thank you, so much! I'm following along because it's the men's version with the folded brim - just what I was looking for. Thanks again. It's a great tutorial! Happy Holidays!
You're welcome, and thank you! Happy crocheting!
Thanks
Hi Stephanie, Thank you! I believe I found that display on Amazon, it's been maybe 5 years since I purchased it though.
@@ByJenniDesigns Thanks so much. I’ll have a look. I’m going to be making lots of these hats for Christmas gift ideas, they’re perfect (all 3 styles).
That's great, I love to hear it! I'm actually working one up currently. 🙂
Was about to ask this! Thank youuuuuuu!!! ❤❤❤ i’ve made 4 beanies with this pattern for my friends! And they all love it!! Thank you jenni designs!
Hi Apple Shinee! That's so great, you're welcome! 🥰
Wow thank you so much!!!
@@ByJenniDesigns im a little confused..how should i add the increases? is there any particular pattern for increases after row 12
Yes, you sure can! 🙂
@@ByJenniDesigns Awesome you’re the best! 🌞
Aw, thank you! 😁
Okay worked like a charm. It’s now measures to 7 1/2in and that’ll fit a 22in circumference head.
So glad to hear! 😊
I love your video and your beanies
Thank you Megan!
Love the yarn squeak.
😂 lol
where can i get the written pattern for this. i love it.
Hi! There is a link to the written pattern in the description under the video. 😁
Thanks so much! I really enjoying whipping up this beanie. 😊
You're very welcome. 😊
Thank you so much for this video! ❤
You're welcome 🥰
Thankyou for the pattern, finished the hat but it's too small.
Shall I try again with a bigger hook or add more increases ?
Feeling frustrated
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi Karen, using the next hook size up will increase the size but for a more accurate way of increasing you can add 4 increases for every inch bigger you would need. I hope this helps, happy crocheting!
@@ByJenniDesigns thankyou so much
