My wife, who is a beginner in crochet, just finished this beanie. It turned out great. She had problems with the tightness of the five slip stitches at the start. She said she just kept them as loose as possible and if they were too tight, she used a hairpin to lift it and insert the hook. The top is not bulky and looks good. We're both proud of her accomplishment. Thank you Viv!
I’m a beginner crocheter and I’ve wanted to make some cute stuff to make for gifts, and this is the best tutorial for beginners I’ve found so far! Such a cute beanie and simple to make.
For anyone struggling with the slip stitches, don't make the loops too tight. Keep it a bit looser than your half double crochets so that the hook can slip under smoothly when you're doing the next row.
I have now made four beanies using this tutorial and pattern and just have to say this is hands down my favorite thing lately. I’m still fairly new to crocheting but the fact that I can make this design in two days or less makes me feel so accomplished and satisfied in my work and progress! Thank you for making this, you’ve helped me and so many others! 🫶🏻
This is now my go-to pattern for making hats for donations. I dropped off a dozen in different sizes to my local food pantry/clothing closet yesterday. I Googled "child's size crochet hat circumference" and found a chart that shows different circumference and height measurements. Thanks so much for this tutorial!!
Im a beginner crocheter and i followed this video and finsihed my beanie within a day. Im so filled with joy and thank you so much for a detailed and simple video🥹
I love this pattern! I used this video to essentially teach myself to crochet and ive made four beanies that im super happy with. What i learned that id pass on for others is that if your slip stitches are super tight you need to make them COMICALLY looser. Like ridiculously loose it feels silly. THEY WILL TIGHTEN UP!! bc omg i was fighting for my life for a while there . Im currently working on your lemon peel cardigan pattern and having a blast !! So excited for the results
I have to admit this. I've been through numerous tutorials, but yours hands down is just the best tutorial out there for beginners and even for crocheters... Your explanation is quite helpful and we can learn things so easily, thank you so much, I genuinely appreciate you a lot as my crochet teacher.
cannot recommend this pattern enough!! I was so so so happy with the beanie and not having to count stitches too often is great for some mindless crochet! so so fun!!
I love this tutorial! Finished my 3rd beanie using this. I did two beanies using 2 colours and the 3rd one using four colours. If anyone else wants to try the color switch has to be on the slip stitch end fyi for it to look seamless.
I am a beginner and this was so easy way better than a lot of other tutorials and I did make a couple mistakes but it was easy Smee easy to cover them up and keep going, so thank you you rock and I’m gonna keep following your tutorials
This was my first ever crochet project and it worked!! I'm in shock. This tutorial was so clear, chill and helpful it took me from 100% noob to someone who now feels like they can 'do crochet'. Thank you so much!
Just tried this one and currently wearing my brand new beanie! This pattern is thick and soft and squidgy in all the best ways and is fast and fun to make.
My tension is all over the place but i did it and I couldnt be happier with this hat! Your instructions are concise and clear and i speak english only. Thank you so much! ❤
I've never done crochet and I made this for my bf in just a few days and it turned out amazing! Your tutorial is so clear and I felt confident in completing the project! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this. I tired to make the beanie from that tutorial with over 1 million views and it turned out horribly. I was supposed to give it to my co-worker, but it looks terrible, so I had to find a better tutorial. I’m so glad I found yours!!!
this was my first crochet project and it was a great tutorial! tip for other people: make sure when you do a slip stitch on the brim that you dont make it too tight because mine ended up being the correct length but too tight since the yarn isnt stretchy in that direction
Such a great and detailed tutorial! However, I did the slip stitch rim, exactly like you did with 3 stitches per 2 rows, and it made the rim so small, I couldn't even fit it on my head. I freaked out a little bit but ended up cutting and undoing the slip stitches. Fit absolutely perfect afterward! I've made a beanie with a bunched top, and I much prefer this pattern. Thank you!!
I messed up my first attempt, but I did not make it wide enough, I did not make it long enough, and I used a black yarn for my first attempt. I definitely learned from my first failed attempt so I am going to make sure to follow the directions exactly this time around! This tutorial is super simple and helpful thank you, attempt 2 will be successful!!!
Used this tutorial to make my very first crochet project! I only learnt to crochet a few days ago and this video was so easy to follow! My beanie looks amazing im so happy ty!
Just came over from IG, thanks for this tutorial! I’ve made two beanies in the past with that weird bunching, looking forward to doing it this way from now on! Thank you!
Thank you so so much for explaining everything so well. I am a total beginner and have only ever done single crochet stitches before this and was super scared to try anything else, but this tutorial was honestly so helpful and got me out of my comfort zone. And now I have awesome Christmas gifts! Thanks again!
I've been crocheting for a while but for some reason I've always struggle to make a beanie. thanks to this tutorial, I was able to finally create one :)
I just watched the video at 2x speed before making it. You showed everything and nothing looks too difficult for me. Some people’s voices annoy the crap out of me, but yours is amazing! I have just subscribed, ty so much. ❤
I knit a lot mainly arans and icelandic sweaters and cardigans. I would love to be able to crochet but i have a hard time with it. Now that I have seen this tutorial I am going to follow the instructions and hopefully I will have success. I am so happy to have found this channel.
I'm a beginner crocheter and i just completed this!!! I used a bigger hook size (5.50mm instead of 5.0mm) so it ended up plushier but overall perfectly fine! Thanks for the easy tutorial.
I have crocheted for years. I'm not great but it's relaxing and I enjoy it. I just watched your video and l learned new things. Thank you so much for taking the time to do it!
I have made two beanies like this (also very new to crochet and am pleased with the results. Like many people said- the slips stitches can get really tight and I made the mistake of using super fuzzy BLACK yarn (before I realized how much harder it was to work with) and I had a nightmareish time trying to complete before I just flipped out and started over. I ended up using a cotton yarn for the first beanie that was not at all fuzzy and this helped tremendously. For my next beanie I used a dark green, fuzzy wool and followed someone's tips here and kept the slip stitches CRAZY loose (they don't stay loose but at least if you start loose it's a lot easier going back down the row. Also, COUNT your stitches. TWICE I counted the first few rows and then was like "eh- I'll just go by instinct I know what it looks like to end the row properly" and then 7 rows later I realized I'd added a stitch somewhere. I'm sure more experienced crocheters don't need to do it- but I do. :). Still absolutely love both my beanies. :)
I’ve just finished this project and I have to say it turned out amazing !! I’ve only had a hard time lining up my stitches before closing my beanie but you can’t even see it 🤫 well thanks a lot for this pattern !!
Omg I'm a first timer, and the only other things ive crocheted successfully are a headphone sprout, a moon and a star, and omg im able to follow through with this tutorial and ive made 4 rows of it so far, im planning to make one for my bf, he loves beanies. Thank you so much!
Excellent job! I have been crocheting for 40 yrs. and some crocheters use hooks that are way too big for the yarn size. Therefore, it leaves gapping holes between stitches. Your work is done nicely. Good job!
Thank you so much for this. It's the perfevt tutorial for beginners like I am. I crocheted two beanies with your help and gifted them to my grandparents. Needless to say, they loved them. Thanks a ton ❤
Thank you. I've been trying to find cool crochet clothes that aren't too showy and I figured out how to do this with my left hand. I'm able to crochet fast with my right hand but I need to use my left hand more so making a few of these will help.
I just finished this project and it was my true first crochet project! It definitely took a lot longer than I was expecting but it turned out so CUTE! I made it for my 14 yo son and he's going to love it so much (and hopefully not lose it!).
I've been knitting since I was 15. When I was a bit older I tried to crochet but it never worked. It always turned into a slanted awkward triangle. Now I know why. You simple instructions and slow pace showed me that last stitch on the end. I'm excited to try again!
This is such a beginner friendly video! I‘ve crocheted a few pieces already but this is the first time I actually got to see how to slip stitch! 😍 The beanie turned out really nice too, thank you so much!

My dad has a large head, I think (64cm / a lil over 25in around), plus he _haaates_ tight hats. So I made this beanie extra long and extra large for him to be happy. 😄 It turned out great.
I have only been crocheting for a few months but this tutorial was so great! Very detailed and it helped me make a beanie in multiple colors! Thank you! :)
Love the new hat I just made. The five slip stitches were a pain but I kept going. For the rim, instead of doing slip stitches, I did single crochet, which made it a lot looser so it still could fit my head.
@@lillymcculloh4948 No, the chain is the length from your eyebrows to the crown of your head plus however much you want to fold over for the brim. So mine was 60 chains and that gave me an inch or so brim. You keep going around until it fits around your head because you’re making it up and down.
Wow, I have been searching RUclips for days to find a stretchy beanie without the bunches. This is the only one I found. It loks great and your video is very well done! Thank you!!
This pattern is amazing. And your tutorials are the best, my first iteration of this is a massive failure and it took me 4 days to complete but that's alright, it was a blast and I've learnt from my mistakes. I bought a mixed colored yarn to do it again. This time, I'll make sure that it's perfect. I absolutely adore your smile as well
This is perf! I had some leftover Bernat blanket and wanted to make a fuzzy beanie. Since the yarn is way thicker I changed the stitches and only did slip stitch for the top 3, but it came out sooo cute. This is only the 2nd beanie I’ve made and it came out so much nicer without the top being bunchy :)
I just put up a written pattern for this tutorial! I hope it makes it even easier for you to follow along! vivcrochets.com/ribbed-beanie

For anyone struggling with the slip stitches, don't make the loops too tight. Keep it a bit looser than your half double crochets so that the hook can slip under smoothly when you're doing the next row.

Hey on an approx how much gm of yarn was used for a beanie?
Omg, ure soooo lucky, I wish I could do that, but I'm terrible at crocheting, I can't even do the chain stitches. Good Job thou 🎉

I bought a mixed colored yarn to do it again. This time, I'll make sure that it's perfect. I absolutely adore your smile as well
Beautiful toboggan. Beautifully done and instructed. Thank you!
Thank you so much for teaching how to make a beanie I’m a beginner and with your help i made such a cute beanie
thanks for the tutorial, I’ve always had problem with the bunch at the top, yesterday I made the beanie and it looks so beautiful thank you ❤
I make beanies for my Samaritan's purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and this was an easy one and came out very nice!
So glad I found this video and didn’t decide to give up!
I’m currently making this from my mom. Thank you so much.
I am really happy with this design, thank you from a new crochet beginner.
Girlll im a totallyyy beginner and this is my very first successful project😭😭 tysm for this tutorial!!! Ty
Great tutorial...a definite project. I love the way the top turns out
This is perf!
