  • This crochet tutorial shows how to crochet an easy knit-look beanie with chunky yarn. Any other weight yarn will work too. The crochet stitch is very basic so this beanie is very easy to make. It works up fast and can be finished in just 1-2 days. I used almost 2 skeins of this chunky yarn #crochethats #crochetbeanie #crochettutorial

    This will be my first crochet project. I’ve started over several times. My biggest lesson learned with this is as you crochet, the panel tightens up resulting in the length shrinking. So I had to start with a longer braid than I needed to compensate for the shrinkage.

    • @venusspade6449
      @venusspade6449 5 месяцев назад +5

      This actually isn’t because of the stitch if you’re a very beginner it’s probably bc your tension is off! It happens a lot with beginners and tbh this stitch is awful to start with for beginners bc it does require good consistent tension, try making a beanie with sc or dc first and practice squares to perfect ur tensions and edges!!

    Thank you so much!! I’m just getting back into crochet after about 6-7 years and I needed a good refresher. I decided to jump back in by making a Minnie Mouse and Spider-man hat for my husband’s little cousins (3 and 5) and I was soooo mad that I wasted my time on another video that skipped straight to the finished product with unclear instructions and no pattern. You just saved Christmas and I can’t thank you enough!!

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  Год назад +1

      I appreciate it! 😊 Hopefully my instructions are clear enough. You can go through the video before actually getting started to make sure. Also, like I said in the video, the sl st is more time consuming than other sts, so definitely use a thicker yarn or you can even change it to a taller stitch like BLO hdc. Really helps saving time.

    • @Hai_Lello
      @Hai_Lello Год назад

      @@CherilynQ Thank you so much for responding! Working on it now, as we speak. I’m a total insomniac. The only reason I’m doing it with a thinner yarn this time is because I’m sewing a patch on the front and I feel like it would look a little neater on smaller stitches.
      But I did, indeed, go through your video first and then again to make my notes and jot down your instructions like I usually do. My mistake with the last lady’s video was stopping once she got to the repeat rows and starting the work because I was anxious to jump in. When I came back to see where to go from there…well. LOL
      Again, thank you!!! You were PERFECTLY clear and I am so appreciative of your time!

    8:02 Quick question, because I did one right and one wrong and now I’m struggling. When going under “both loops” from the beginning side of the hat, are you meaning two loops from that starting base chain, or the two loops from the actual first row of stitches?

    • @CherilynQ

      Just the loops on the very edge, so the ones from the base.

    hi im new to crocheting and i was wondering is this pattern kinda like one size fits all. I"m making a hat for a friend for Christmas and im really nervous it wont fit his head. I think my yarn is fairly stretchy but idk :/

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  Год назад

      Hi, I would say yes, this size will fit most people cuz there will be a stretch between rows. I usually make the long side of the rectangle (head circumference) 21-22 inches when it's slightly stretched, but it fits my bf too even though I made it my size. Also, if you are using cotton yarn, make the beanie a bit small than you want it to be because cotton tends to stretch out over time.

    I really want to make one of these for my Aunt who has cancer. I feel like she would absolutely love it. Where did you buy your yarn at? I have one passed on to me from my great grandmother who passed away last year, but it seems to be a lot thinner than yours on here.

      I got my yarn at a local store in Australia called Spotlight. For this beanie, you would need a thick yarn like this to be able to finish it fast.

    Hi! Thanks for the super helpful tutorials! I have one question tho maybe someone can answer but is it normal that as I go through the rows my rectangle isn't rectangling? 😭 Like it keeps getting smaller and smaller ?
    Thanks again 💗💗

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hello! The rectangle/rows shouldn't be getting smaller. Make sure you work into ALL the stitches of each row by using stitch markers 💕

      I know this is super late so idk if it’ll be helpful, but Im having the same problem, I thiiiink it’s because the stitches are getting tighter because I’ve been stretching out the newer rows a bit and it’s been helping. This is my first time crocheting and I’m only about halfway done so I might not know what I’m talking about but it’s helped me. Good luck with yours!! 💗

      Yes it'll still work. You'll need to add more sts and rows to compensate though.

    Also, one quick question! If I’m using a medium yarn weight, like 4, do you suggest we still go a hook size up or use the size suggested in the skein? I think I saw you tell someone else to use the suggested size but I just wanted to make sure.

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  Год назад +1

      Definitely a bigger hook for sl sts. Since you are making presents, I don’t suggest weight 4 yarn. Weight 6 would get it done quicker. There’s a another tutorial of mine if you’re interested, it’s also a knit-look beanie but with weight 4 yarn and the stitch/row is taller so it works up faster.

      OK, thank you so much!! I have some extra time because I’m home all day and the little ones are out of town until the middle of next week. But if I can make it to a craft store tomorrow, I’ll look for a heavier weight.

    great tutorial!! i have a really thin yarn compared to one in the video and i don’t remember the size. this is my very first attempt. i see some videos of thickening the yarn by having three lines in one ( i hope i could explain) but it is harder to follow since chain numbers multiplied. would this tutorial work for thinner yarn or what can i do? i wanna do a beanie for my boyfriend as a gift 😣😣

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  6 месяцев назад

      Hi! I get that tweaking the chain count can be a bit tricky, but the real reason I'm nudging you toward chunky yarn is because of the stitch. It can work up really slowly if you go for a thinner yarn. You might even lose motivation before you finish the beanie.

    Hiii!! I love this patternnnn!! May I ask, the yarn I'll be using is a weight 4 yarn and it calls for a 4mm - 5.5mm hook, is it alright to use a 6mm hook? Thank you!

    • @CherilynQ
      @CherilynQ  Год назад +3

      Hi! Thanks!! I think it’s totally fine. You might even need to try larger than 6 mm cuz this stitch can be really tight.
      Also, in case later you feel working this stitch with weight 4 is really slow, try double or even triple strands ☺️
