I’m making this beanie for my son-in-law who is a very large man ..I would like to make this hat a little bigger….Do I do this by starting with 12 double crochet stitches in the magic ring instead of 10, or wait till row six and add an additional increase row ?? Thanks for any assistance!!…
You could do either but I would go with 11 in magic circle instead of 12, otherwise it may end up too large. Using 11 should give you another 1 1/2-2".
I am following this pattern but on 3rd row say's 30 at end which was right but after 4th row am left with 45 not 40, pulled it out numerous times but alway's end's the same can any suggestions please
Hi Lesley, it's hard to help without being able to see the piece but are you possibly working 2 hdc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, hdc..all the way around? Because that would give you 45 hdc at the end. For this row you should work a repeat of 2 hdc, hdc, hdc, 2 hdc, hdc, hdc...keep following that pattern all the way around and you should end with the 40 hdc. I hope this helps!
I followed it exactly like you did it. Except at the end mine was more of a large bag than anything else. So I had to unwind it all. I’m not sure if my yarn was much bulkier but I’m using the same kind a size 6. Maybe yours is a different size
Hi Bea! Yes, if you're using bulkier yarn it will definitely turn out much larger. I've only ever made this pattern with the yarn I suggested in the video. If you're going to use bulkier yarn you'll need to adjust the increases and rows. Sorry this pattern didn't work out for you.
Hi! If you get gauge this will fit a circumference of 22-23". I'm sorry, I haven't use a 8 or 9mm hook with this pattern so it's really hard for me to advise you on that.
I love your pattern. I am going to try and crochet this but the man I want to make this for has a size 24 head. He has lots of hair. Will this fit him?
Hi, you can add some additional stitches in the 5th row. 3 increases should make the hat roughly an inch larger in circumference. If you need it even larger, 2 inches, you could change row 5 and work up this instead: Row 5: Ch 1, *2 dc, dc in next 3* Repeat from *to* around. Join with ss. (50) I hope this helps! Good luck!
I am using a chunky 5 with your 10mm hook. It looks so big. Yes, I gauged it too. My last question is you said to complete 18 rows. Is that from center crown down?
The materials said "10mm hook", but when I measured the circle that was supposed to be 11 cm after round 3ish, mine was almost 13cm. I'm using the same yarn and a 9mm "M" hook (that was the largest hook I had, even though you said a 10mm hook). Was this supposed to be the J/10 hook which is 6mm? Thank you for anyone who can answer my question. : )
The 10mm hook is the correct size for this pattern but you may just be crocheting a little looser than I do. You may want to go down another size or remove some of the increases.
Hi Barbara, this pattern will not work with size 4 yarn. I am actually working on the tutorial for a very similar men's hat that does use size 4 yarn though, what a coincidence! I'm hoping to have the video up this week but if you would like the written pattern now, it's on my blog here: byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2014/12/mens-basic-beanie-folded-beanie-or.html?m=1
@@ByJenniDesigns hi I am following your crochet but I am using hoke number 6 so how many double crochet to should to start... I ma trying but is work its too little it doesn't much on the measurement.. Hope you help me to Fine out how..
Hello! Just wanted to ask if I use a smaller size yarn (using a 5mm hook) will the beanie come out smaller?
Yes, much smaller for sure.
@@ByJenniDesigns thank you so much for the response! Love your videos!
Is there a way to adjust?
How would I adjust for a thinner yarn?
I would double up
I just did the same thing. Thanks for letting me know I was cray cray!
This is so easy to make! I just made one, this pattern is great!!
Thanks for sharing, your instructions were very helpful and easy to follow❤❤
Great tutorial! Looks just perfect! Thank you!

Finally found a beanie brim pattern :-) It’s basically 18 rows vs 12 for a basic beanie? Mine turned out well ❤

You're welcome, thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. 😊
What size yarn and hook did you use plz?
Hiiiii I loveeeeeee the measuring tape. #catmom
Thanks for sharing. I have made a school spirit beanie.

@@ByJenniDesignsI did use the Bernat Softee Chunky Yarn. So not sure what happened there. I also used a 9mm hook.
Oh, interesting. Maybe you crochet your stitches looser than I do? I'm so sorry I can't be of more help, it's hard to figure out without a photo.
Is it a standard size for men..I love the pattern n I want to gift it. Can u pls guide me. I have no 8&9 hook . Is it ok. 🙏🙏

My base is not coming 11cm...it is showing less than that... how i will increase...pls guide me
In this case, I usually suggest going up a hook size.
What is the total no of chains after 5th n 6th row. I m knitting this pattern. Can u pls tell me
Hi, Every row starts with 1 chain.
How many wool?
Hi Jenni, can we get you to do some cell phone bags.
Oh, interesting idea. 🙂 I've never seen that before!
Hey Jenni, what is the color of this yarn ?
Hi, this is the gray heather colorway. :)
Hello I’m not able to find the yarn listed for this pattern. What other yarn would you recommend that I can use? TIA!
You can try another 6 Super Bulky yarn or this specific yarn is available online.
I don't have the size of hook you are using mine only go up to size 6.5
Do I do the 1/2 crochet all the around to 18 rows
Is this 18 rows total? Or 18 rows starting at row 7? Thank you!!
I love your pattern. I am going to try and crochet this but the man I want to make this for has a size 24 head. He has lots of hair. Will this fit him?
Hi Nancy, if you get gauge while crocheting I'd suggest adding maybe 6 increases for a 24" circumference. 🙂
Ok great thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it. 😊
@@ByJenniDesigns how do we add increases

After you said if the circle is too big to switch sizes. Do I have to start over, or can I continue crocheting?
Hi Grayce, unfortunately, it would be best to start over with the new hook size.
@@ByJenniDesigns Thanks, you're awesome.
Aw thanks! 🥰 You're very welcome!
@@ByJenniDesigns at the end when you’re crocheting the last 18 rows do you still do a slip stitch after each row?
Yes, that's correct. You slip stitch to join the last stitch to the first stich. 🙂
Can I use a Bulky 5 yarn? What hook would you recommend for this pattern for 5 bulky. Thanks
Hi Shelley, using a bulky 5 in place of the super bulky 6 most likely would result in a hat that's too small. 🫤
I am using a chunky 5 with your 10mm hook. It looks so big. Yes, I gauged it too. My last question is you said to complete 18 rows. Is that from center crown down?
Wow, I'm surprised by that! Yes, the rows are counted from the center down.
Perfect 👍 I will be following step by step
It turned out sooo good💗💗💗💕💕💕
Why won't it work for Worsted weight yarn #$?
Hi, the hat would turn out much smaller with worsted yarn. You could try holding together 2 strands of worsted though. 🙂
Thanks a lot for the tutorial
I’m doing this trw. This was great
I messed up by only doing the hdc in one stitch instead of 2 stitches. Try it and see what hspoens.
Thank you so much. ❤
