Future comments for myself if I make this one again & of coarse if it helps someone, that's always good.
This one was alot of trial & error for me with this; I fixed it over and over until I liked it. I like the outcome alot now.
2 comments were really helpful.... one about removing 1 row of increase rounds.... and another about creating a chain to measure the circumference required for the head. So thank you to those people for those inspirations.
I decided to just use a piece of yarn to measure my head circumference (bc I don't have time to count stitches). I pulled off 1 increase round and it was still too big, so I pulled off a second. Once the rim of this circle I had crocheted matched the size I want the brim to be, I started building regular DC stitches to get the height (stopped increases). But thing is.... she does 10 regular + 4 fpdc/bpdc for the brim..... I only needed 7 rows (once it was about to my hairline, for reference) then added 4 rows of fpdc/bpdc for the border. And that is visual preference, it could have worked with 8 rows of dc and 3 rows of fpdc/bpdc for a smaller rim if you don't want it that thick on the border. Anyway.
    So for me, I did....
    Size 4 yarn
    Size H (5mm) hook
R1: The original circle with 10 dc
    R2: 2 in each
    R3: 1,2 pattern
    R4: 1,1,2 pattern
    R5: 1,1,1,2 pattern
    R6-R12: 1 only
    R13-R16: fpdc/bpdc for brim
This worked for me personally. Hopefully this is enough info to help anyone troubleshoot who is struggling too.

My son has a big head and a lot of hair. To make this big enough for him, I used a 7mm hook, started with chain 6 to make the center circle and 20 double crochets for round 1. Then 3 in 2 for the first TWO rounds. Then 4 in 3, 5 in 4, 6 in 5, and 7 in 6 for one round each. Then I followed the rest of your pattern exactly (starting at 7:58). It came out perfect. Thanks so much for this!

Hey Julie, I’m using a much thicker yarn and don’t need to do as many increasing rounds. Could you tell me the diameter of the crown in either centimetres or inches? I think I might only need to to do 4 or 5 increasing rounds.

This was by far the easiest tutorial to follow for a beanie that I've found so far. I was making one for an adult male, so I ended my last round of increases with 9 double crochets followed by an increase every 10th stitch. Then I crocheted 5 rounds without increases followed by 3 rounds of the pattern she uses at the bottom. It fit perfectly!

It took me two trials to make this successfully as i was using medium yarn and 5mm crochet. The first time I tried it, it was very big and I had to undo everything. So I decided to reduce stitches by 1 from the beginning. I did 9 instead of 10 in the first row, 18, 27, and so on. 63 in the repeated 10 rows. Turned out very well! Hoping that it stretches further but is snug right now. Love the pattern! Finished it in a day the second time!

Crocheting is a totally new thing for me as I challenge myself to learn something new to start this year. I wanna prove that it's never too late to learn (I'm now 49 going to be 50 soon!). So here I go! RUclips is my teacher. I have made my 1st project of making infinity scarf then I wanna extend it to a beanie. After checking out some tutorials here for beginners, then I came across this Mindfulknots! And I am now working on round 4 of the beanie. Your instruction is easy to understand, so helpful for a super beginner like me. I paused and go back many times too. Sometimes got lost with the pattern; did I do double crochet on that stitch? And redo again. 😂 I enjoy this new journey. Thank you so much Mindfulknots! I can't wait to have my 1st beanie done! 😘😘

I LOVE this tutorial. There is no unnecessary talking for the sake of loving to hear your own voice. You explain things in a matter of fact way without constantly stumbling over your own words due to your mouth going faster than your brain and feeling the need to fill every moment with noise. Many crochet content creators will not edit out their word stumbling, so it makes it difficult to understand what they’re trying to say. Again, I believe they just love to hear themselves talk. I’ve been trying to find a simple tutorial to learn crocheting in the round and the incessant chatter from all the videos I have watched until this one made it difficult to focus. Thank you for getting straight to the point and only conveying what’s important. I now understand the pattern for increases in the round. You have a new subscriber.

I do what to make a quick note that almost no crocheter brings up when crocheting in the round. Start every other row off with an increase stitch (2 DC into the same stitch) If you don’t do this, but rather start all rows off with the appropriate number of 1 DC into each stitch first, all of the increase stitches will be aligned and you will end up with a hexagon instead of a circle. I keep it simple and I begin the pattern with an increase stitch on every even numbered row. So here is what I mean. Let’s say we’re starting at row 4.
Row 4 has a repeating pattern of one DC per stitch for 2 stitches, then 2 DC into the third stitch
Row 5 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 3 stitches and then 2 DC into the 4th stitch
Row 6 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 4 stitches and then 2 DC into the 5th
According to most in the round videos, row 4 will begin with one DC into the first 2 stitches and row 5 will also begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches. In fact, every row starts with this portion of the pattern. Do not do this. Start row 4 with 2 DC into the very first stitch and then do one DC into the next 2 stitches and so on. Row 5 will begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches, then 2 DC into the 4th stitch and on. Row 6 is an even numbered row, so start with the increase stitch of 2 DC into the first stitch then one DC into each of the next 4 stitches.
I hope this helps out any beginners who stumble across this video because this tip seems to be the biggest secret that crocheters gatekeep and I don’t know why.

Hi! Since we start with 10 double crochets(DC), each row should have 10 more stitches than the previous row.
For eg: row 2 will have 20 (two DC in each stitch), row 3 will have 30 (1DC and then 2DC in the next stitch), row 4 is 40, and so on till it fits your head, and then we add the ribbing
      Hope this helps!

I just made this, took me a few hours but it was imo beginner friendly. The only thing I did differently is 7 rows after I finished increasing instead of 10.. then the 4 rows of the ribbed design and it came out perfect ❤

I've made about 7 of these now using the Lion Brand Landscapes yarn. They don't take too long to make at all. I like how easy it is to adjust the pattern to suit your size requirements as well. For me, I find using a 5mm hook works best. I also skip the last increase round and do six of the straight double crochet rounds after the last increase round instead of ten, and finish with four rounds of the FPDC and BPDC ribbing. The other thing I like about this pattern is you don't have to make the ribbed edge separately.

I 5mm hook, but when i finished the hat it was like circle
      What wrong with me ?

Very beautiful; will try to follow your instructions; I am not very handy with crocheting instructions. Will need to practice. I am a good knitter from childhood but crocheting is newer to me. I am a window of a WWII Veteran. Not too familiar with phone instructions. Hope I can save your instructions 🙏❤

I love how clear you make the process . Something that seemed so tricky makes sense with your tutorial. Question though, what size would this be considered and how do you adjust the sizing for smaller or larger heads?

    • @rosepaul9681
      @rosepaul9681 Год назад

There are charts showing how big to make the top of the hat for different sized heads. I think I looked up diameter of a hat. When you reach the indicated diameter, you quit increasing and switch to the crochet stitch you are working in. Hope that helps.

I recently bought this pattern thru Etsy as I had difficulty following on my phone. After two tries I finally compared the written instructions with the video...clearly different i.e. round 5 instead of 2 dbl crochet in same stitch on the video you double crochet in first three stitches.

Plan on making this beanie. But not with the landscapes yarn. I’m working/struggling to finish a scarf-yarn is uneven in places-super thin in others. No a fan! Tutorial is great! Thanks

I don't know how i did it, but i followed this step by step, stitch by stitch with smaller yarn, and it came out so big I could probably have put my head in there twice. I know it wasn't a tension issue, but I'm trying to figure out what i did wrong. Lovely job giving all the information in a no-nonsense fashion, easy to follow, i just messed up without knowing what I did wrong.
