Hi! Amazing pattern, thank you! Which is the lenght of the diameter of the crown part? Asking for the adult size. I'm using a way thinner yarn and I'm struggling with mesurements... Thanks! c:
Love the look of the stitches in this hat! I’m trying to find a good pattern that I can use with a super bulky size 6 blanket yarn that I bought. Do you think your pattern would work with a heavier yarn?
Beautiful and easy and I'm done with a child size following you...Thank you kindly for your great way of teaching and explaining 😊 You truely are good at what you do...Coul I please see a pattern for a man's round poncho in solid colour Thank You and God 🙌 Bless🙏❤
Thank you for this beautiful beanie! I'm trying to work on an adult size but a little confuse when I get to round 10. You had the beanie inside out when working round 10 but before you SL ST you had it right side out. I'm I missing a something here?
I might have flipped it for some reason. It shouldn’t matter. When you do the side rows we are going to only create texture on one side of the hat and that will be the outside of the hat.
Yes. You want the hook size to give you a gauge that matches the pattern. Otherwise the sizing can be off. If you tend to crochet loosely, you might need a smaller hook, if you crochet tightly, you may need a larger hook.
Hi there, I would love to make this beautiful hat for my dad. I have purchased a 4ply yarn which requires/recommends a 3.00/3.5mm hook. I am still quite new to crochet and I was wondering how I could adjust your tutorial to my thinner yarn? Thank you so much for you help❤
You will need to work increase (crown) rows until the hat has the desired circumference then work side rows until you are 1.5-2 inches from the desired length then work the brim rows for 2 inches to finish the length.
The largest adult hat is for a 23" head. My dad wears this size but I wear a adult or small adult size. My Stepmom also wears the large adult size but but she has thick curly hair.
@@WindingRoadCrochet I’m not sure what I did wrong stitch count right, but it will be fine I’m happy with it, it was a very very good tutorial, thank you
Im a begginer when you did a slst and chained one are we gonna start half fouble crocheting from the stitch we slst into?? No right cuz when ibcounted its doesnt make sense
I do not count my starting chain as a stitch. I start crocheting into the stitch at the base of the turning chain. I have checked the stitch counts and they add up correctly.
So do you skip the chain and the joined "stitches"? Because otherwise I come up with an extra stitch. Also when doing the brim I have a space in the back where I joined for each round, is that normal? I can share a photo.
I do not have calculations for that. I would just work crown rows until the circle is wide enough and then side rows until the project is long enough. You can find charts on line that tell you what the diameter should be for different sizes.
Yes that would work. You could work the half double crochet in the front middle bar for all the rows. This would result in ribbing on both sides of the scarf.
Can u achieve this stitch by working from the bottom up? If so can u help me out I'm currently doing a project ND i have the ribbed part done but it's more like a head band. But I wanna continue to the top with the second pattern
I believe that is the row that you work in the third loop. Check out my third loop video tutorial for a slower demonstration. ruclips.net/video/qxMqZyJHlOA/видео.html
Love this pattern and thank you for the tutorial and options in sizing. ♥️ I worked this hat in the small adult size since my head circumference is 22” but it still turned out too big so I ended up working the child size instead.
Your gauge can affect size, and sometimes the yarn is just stretchier and needs to be used on a smaller size. I am glad you were able to find a size that works.
@@WindingRoadCrochet yes I’m glad cuz I loved the pattern I’m making more in different colors. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern with us. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I don't have any worsted yarn I have DK how can I do the adjustments. You only provide rows needed but no measurements for the cap the side length. Help please
Can I ask why you do the turning each row? Because I’m working with an ombré shade yarn & it ended up making the colors look very choppy :( I appreciate your time, thank you!
Yes. It is because the third loop is only located on one side of the stitch. Also we are using half double crochet and if you don’t turn the work, then you seam will be diagonal and not straight.
Working in the front loop only and working in the "3rd loop" or "front middle bar is different. What happens is the front loop and the back loop get pushed down to create the ridge that has the iconic "v" of a chain stitch. Here is a different video that explains working in the third loop better. ruclips.net/video/qxMqZyJHlOA/видео.html If you only work in the front loop, you will only get a single line rib and not the ribbing that resembles "v"s at the top of the stitch.
thank you for the nice pattern, i have a question please .for the side rounds are they 20 ? so the total rows will be 30?or 20 rows total including the crown?? thank you ?
I love this pattern so much! Thank you for sharing it! This is the first beanie I'm attempting to make after learning to crochet a month ago, and I'm getting pretty confused. I'm making the adult size, same yarn and hook size as you, and I still have 11 more rows total but its already big enough to cover my whole head. I've been counting my stitches and rows carefully the whole time to be certain, but I'm wondering, did I do something wrong? Did I somehow make too many rows? I have to redo it and I'm wondering if I should make a small adult but still worried it would be too large if I do. What can I do??
Since you are new to crochet, it is more likely that you have a larger gauge than what I have. Gauge is the number of stitches per inch. Some people crochet really loosely and others crochet really tight. We use gauge to help all crocheters to be able to crochet the same pattern. The way it works is that you start by making a small flat piece using the indicated stitch, then you measure how many stitches you have per inch. If what you get is different than what the pattern suggests, then you will need to either go up or down a hook size. The gauge for this pattern is 7 HDC X 6 Rows = 2 inches, so every 7 half double crochets should be 2 inches wide. If you have 6 half double crochet for every 2 inches you will have a larger hat. If you have 8 half double crochets for every 2 inches you will have a smaller hat. based on what you have told me, I am guessing you need to go down a hook size to achieve the gauge. Feel free to look up a youtube video to have them show you more clearly how to determine your gauge. This is something you will deal with for any pattern that size matters.
Why does my brim keep flaring out? It is goes out for a section and them in like a bucket hat if that makes sense. I have started the brim over and looked at other videos with post stiches but can't seem to do it right. Any suggestions?
I recommend for you to count as you do the fp stitch and the bp stitch , then count all stitches at the end of your row, I just made a hat similar to this ,and my stitch count was off by 2 stitches , so I was able to correct it by counting as I go ,. hope that helps you .
I agree with @marlawetherell8785 . Count your stitches after working a row to make sure you are not adding stitches. It is also possible that you are just working your stitches looser in this section. If the stitch count is correct, then try moving down a hook size just for this section.
I have a question...When doing the sides, for example, the baby, you say to repeat 1&2 until you have 12 rows total, does that mean total of all rows or 12 side rows? Love this pattern!! Thank you!
I had to check to make sure. For the baby size you want to have a TOTAL of 12 rows. So that is the rows of the crown of the beanie (which is 6 rows for the baby size) plus 6 side rows to equal 12 rows total. I try to make sure I say or write total rows somewhere.
I have a silly question, when completing the side round for a child, we do 16 side round rows, correct? I just wanted to be sure when you said total that it wasn't the crown plus side
I was so excited to try this but I’m stuck on trying to do the front middle bars 😭 I’ve tried 3 different yarns and I get hooked up trying to pull through the 3 loops on almost every single one. Is there a trick to doing it? I end up losing count and it becomes too confusing. I guess for now I’m gonna have to keep looking for a beanie pattern I can do until I master that front middle bar area.

Yes. You want the hook size to give you a gauge that matches the pattern. Otherwise the sizing can be off. If you tend to crochet loosely, you might need a smaller hook, if you crochet tightly, you may need a larger hook.
So, when you start the brim, should you be on the ribbed side or the smooth(er) side? I'm stuck at this part.
The brim looks the same on both sides. So work the brim then is the ribbed side is in the center, just turn the hat inside out.

Yes. It is because the third loop is only located on one side of the stitch. Also we are using half double crochet and if you don’t turn the work, then you seam will be diagonal and not straight.
Could you please tell me how much yarn is needed for 1 adult hat! ?
186 yds or 3.5 ozs
u mean its the front loop? like when u do a invis decrease? why call it a middle bar?
Working in the front loop only and working in the "3rd loop" or "front middle bar is different. What happens is the front loop and the back loop get pushed down to create the ridge that has the iconic "v" of a chain stitch. Here is a different video that explains working in the third loop better.

If you only work in the front loop, you will only get a single line rib and not the ribbing that resembles "v"s at the top of the stitch.
I don't get the side rows. Is it different from the first 10 rows?
Yes. For some of them you are working in the third loop. It is also know as the front or back middle bar.
thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
For adult size
Can you please tell me the metres of thread required?
Can I use 207 yds /190 m thread for adult one
That would work. My math says roughly 170 m
Love it 💕
Thanks!!
thank you for the nice pattern, i have a question please .for the side rounds are they 20 ? so the total rows will be 30?or 20 rows total including the crown?? thank you ?
20 total rows, so that includes the crown.
Which size should I take for a 10 year old boy??
I would guess a small adult size but it depends on his head measurement.
Good advise. It is always good to count your stitches now and again.
I am having the hardest time getting the brim right. I’m not getting anything close to those perfect vertical rows 😢
Is it just slanted or is there something else wrong? You could try and block them if there is a slight slant.
I have a silly question, when completing the side round for a child, we do 16 side round rows, correct? I just wanted to be sure when you said total that it wasn't the crown plus side
Total is the total number of rows in the entire pattern. So it should be 16 total rows (crown + side rows). Thanks for asking.
Maybe try a larger hook.
