I'm 12 and am a boy who loves to knit and crochet. I love ur tutorials. Though everyone calls me grandma 👵.😞😓
Kavin Jayaraman just keep doing what your doing and don't mind them! I'm 12 too and I'm planning to sell my creations for money this summer. if you love doing it just ignore them and keep doing it!
Kavin Jayaraman I am also 12 and I crochet as well
Edit: I'm 16, haven't crocheted in a while, and am planning to restart it😊
Don't mind them they are just jealous I know I few boys/men that crochet keep doing what you're doing
Kavin Jayaraman ignore them, do what you want to. ❤️❤️
There are several men that crochet on some of the Facebook crochet groups. It's more common than you think. 😊
I don't want this to come off rude but I like that you don't edit out your mistakes. It's comforting to know that not all of these youtubers are perfect and they still mess up just like i do
not at all, I appreciate that!

Awesome 👍😎
I'm watching this after her passing and learning to make a beanie... and it really made me think that even though she's gone, her videos will continue to educate people for years to come. Thank you for your videos. May you rest in peace. ❤️🙏
Wait! WHAT?! She’s gone? 😳😢

I remember watching this 4 years ago when I was around 8, this was my first crochet tutorial video. The beanie I created was fitted since it was still my first time, my little brother now uses it. It was the first project I started and finished! I made 2 others for my parents and they still have it 'til now. Today, I found this video again and thought about sharing this!
That’s so awesome of you to crochet for your family. Love that your brother is still using your first project! ❤
I'm loving my new beanie. I started yesterday and have never crocheted before but this made it so easy for me. Thanks for putting this up.
I totally agree!!
same
How many hours do you think it took you?
P ZZZ b
Took me 3 days and I went through about 4 different magic circles until I finally got it down. From there, I had to start 2 more beanies before I finally counted everything and knotted everything correctly. AND I FINALLY DID IT!
If you're having trouble, keep trying! I promise, once your fingers get used to the motions, and you get used to the patterns in the yarn, it'll be so easy you'll laugh at your past frustration!
Also, some advice would be to loosen up a little. Don't hold the yarn too tight or you'll never be able to pull the new yarn through. Happy crocheting! ❤
Thanks for your advice.
I'm still trying, but I'll keep trying.

This was so easy for me to follow, she explained so well this will be my first beanie. I'm so so sad to her about her passing. She was a very good teacher. RIP gone but never forgotten. 😪
Did she die or like something?? what happend???????????

I thought I was doing ok
turns out my double crochets are flat and my magic circle is missing the magic
Don't feel bad because I have done the same thing in the beginning!
😅😅 sounds like what I will say since I have not began
SAME! Following step by step for 2 days now, cant get past the magic circle. No winking!! I dunno what I'm doing wrong...
it has taken me close to 2 weeks to get the magic circle. this is the video that helped me the most.
Same! Just keep practicing i guess 😵
Will try this pattern. Sorry to hear she has passed on. So young. How sad. May she rest in peace.
I just wanted to say “thank you” without you and your videos I would never have finished. It’s been 2 years since I started making beanie for cancer patients. I messed up yesterday and as always came back here 😢 and I love how you always respond to your comments 😢 I will forever cherish your help ❤ my condolences to your family and friends ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You know she passed away from Cancer right? R.I.P

Start to finish it took about 4 hours. First time I've crocheted in decades. Very satisfied with results. Thank you for this tutorial.
Made my first ever beanie and love it!!! Just started crocheting a week ago so I’m still a mess but with this video my beanie came out perfect. I love watching your videos because you are completely beginner friendly.
You’re such a great teacher ❤️
I just finished it!! Thank you so much!! After trying numerous tutorials and almost giving up, I have finally crocheted my own grey beanie!! I'll be adding a little pompom to it as well!!
Found Melanie's channel recently and made two of these now. After subscribing to the channel I was sad to learn of her passing. So sad, so young. RIP Melanie and thank you for such an easy to follow pattern
I really am having the hardest time following you when you do the double stitch through the loop. I seriously can’t figure it out and I’ve been stuck three minutes into this video for twenty minutes. Lord be with me 😂

God me too... The first one is fine then I just lose it lol
I had to rewind it several times throughout the entire video. Now I got it though 👍🏻
I can't even get the first circle to make sense, no matter how many tutorials I watch
I love that you also explained how to read the pattern for it, I think it's the first beginner crochet video I've come across so far that's done that. It's so helpful to be able to read and follow along with basic patterns :)
Love it. Half way through my first crochet hat ever . So easy to follow , still can’t believe I can do crochet yay. Thank you for the easy tutorial :)
Wow. This is my first video of Melanies I am watching and I got a good way thru before I looked at the comments and saw she passed. I am firm believer you keep people alive thru memories and experiences. Long live Melanie. I hope you and peace are in harmony.
I really love the way you combine technical terms and simple explanations, it made your tutorial SUPER easy to follow!
Trying to make this for my best friends daughter, you’re a great teacher! Thank you for your uploads, I truly am learning a lot from you. God bless you 💚
I love the way you instructed us.. simple, slow, exact/precised. Thank you very much. You are a very good teacher making learning easy and fun😉
Not very slow...
I love the way you teach us 😊😄😃
I just self-taught myself how to crochet a year ago, so I am still learning, and this video was perfect! Thank you! It helped me finally get down how to crochet a beanie, my son has been hounding me to make him one.
I just wanna say, me and my auntie have just started watching ur videos and they were MUCH more simple than others. I just started crocheting last week and I finished my first scarf in a week. Thank you for your very helpful and easy videos.
Hi. I made the cap with cotton multi-colored yarn, #4 and a 5.0 mm hook. It is for a lady who lost her hair from chemo. It will be cool for the coming hot summer. It really was quick to make.
I decided I wanted to learn to crochet, so I went out and bought some yarn and a needle and followed along with this video. You made it so easy to understand and follow along with! Thank you!
Lindsay Drake have you seen my black crochet bag have you seen my black crochet bag I can't find it it's not there
Do you know them?
U need a crochet hook. -_-

I am not doing well, and am having an anxiety/panic attack trying to do this. Thanks Melanie!!
I love the fact that I didn't have to go back and rewatch one step a million times to just get it right. You see everything she does and it's slow. Love it! First beanie being made now. I've also made a doll too for my daughter and blanket for my son.
Oh my gosh! I did it! i'm only ten and this is awesome!. I made this for my awesome big sister for christmas tomorow! thank you!
from your new subscriber
Oh I'm doing it for my mom for Christmas and I'm 11 lol
Good for you!
Yay! This was my first project after teaching myself how to do the stitches and I did it! You explained it super well and the pattern is easy to memorize too!
Thank you for the good tutorial, I have very little crochet experience and this was the first usable crochet item I have made :)
I love the way you finished with two SC rows followed by slip stitching. It gives it such a nice finished look.
I cant tell you how happy I am that I found your videos... I've been trying on and off for years to progress with my crocheting/knitting and have never made anything other than fancy scarves and some leg warmers. They're nice but I wanted to do more and I thought itd be too hard but you made it so easy. This is so exciting.. Thank you 💜
I don’t get why anyone should be confused... Your instructions are crystal clear, and so easy to follow.. The tip on the 2dc vs DC 2 was very helpful. Great tutorial.
So simple indeed. Thank you for this tutorial! Just completed one, I added a little design to mine too.
Thank you so much for finally translating crochet for this old time knitter! You're the only one who explained it in a way that made sense. I appreciate you! Keep up the good work.
I love the bright colors you picked for the hats; it stands out more.
I appreciate your time and patience; thank you for all you do. You make it look easy lol! 🥰
I really like how she explains everything! And I can understand❤️❤️❤️☺️

I just received crochet hooks and some yarn at Christmas, as it was something I have always wanted to learn (my grandmother was amazing at it, but I never got the chance to learn from her). I just want to thank you so much for all your beginner videos! Your speed and explanations have been great to work with, and even though I am not 100% adept at reading written instructions, having the visual and then to compare to the written truly helps! I just followed this beanie today, however I used a 6 weight yarn and a 10mm as that was the pairing I had on hand that worked, so I did need to adjust the rows for fit. It took me around an hour, but it went wonderfully!! Again thank you!
This is my second beanie I’m making, I made 1 and it turned out good even though I realised I made some mistakes! I tried several other beanies which were 50times harder and very hard to follow their instructions so I came back to watch yours as your have been the best so far to guide through the steps. Thank you so much!! I will be following your videos, keep up the good work!
this is an incredible tutorial! thank you for the very clear instructions, and consideration for beginners.
I just finished my very first crochet hat thanks to this tutorial!! Thank you!😊
I’ve been crocheting for 10+ years with only a handful of lessons. What I’ve learned, I’ve learned on my own after I was given those early personal lessons(from geriatric nursing if you care to know. Yay! Old people! I love you!) and have never watched but one or two crocheting how-to videos. The reason is because the videos were never “stupid simple”. And because I am ambidextrous, but left hand dominant, I would always do BACKWARDS, what was shown and it never came out right. I would get disheartened and stop crocheting for awhile because I couldn’t get out of my very basic, 1-3 stitches.
I could cry watching you. I understood EVERYTHING and how it was presented. Thank you. I’m confidant to try this pattern when I get home. Thanks!
Thank you for re creating this video! I actually succeeded this time! Recreating old videos and all things for beginner / intermediate crochet is appreciated!!!!!!
Just wanted to tell you thank you for this video! You explained it so well. I can't wait to try it!

Made my first beanie. I have never crocheted before. This was a great tutorial. I also made my very first quilt based on your tutorial video. Once again never used a sewing machine ever in my life. Definitely your videos have been a blessing during this pandemic!!
I just made my first two hats and I am addicted! My daughters love them and I plan on making a lot more crochet projects this winter! Thank you for all the amazing videos and tips. May the Lord bless you!
I was able to make 2 beanies in one day Melanie made it so easy. And it's my first time!
... why did I learned to crochet at the end of winter?
Why not learn at the end of winter? By the time you have something you really like it may be Fall or something, or started a long term project such as a blanket.
Thanks by teaching

🤣🤣 good news winter is back ! ☺️
Anytime is a good time to learn to crochet👍😊
Thank you for making this easy-to-follow video! I’ve been trying to crochet a basic hat on and off for years and this was so much easier to follow than printed instructions or blogs - and finally have a hat that looks perfect!
I just finished my first ever beanie. I am an absolute beginner and your instructions were simple and easy to follow. I never thought I could crochet a beanie by myself. Thank you!!!
Thank u so much for it I love the way it shaped!! And yes I usually run away from magic ring but u made it so simple!! Keep up the awesome work!! Love how the beanie turned out it was for a friend!!
This is the first video that actually taught me to crochet, i finished the hat in one evening and i love it.

After many failed attempts, I just finished this beanie and I'm pleased with the results. Thanks for this video! For people who have never crocheted before like me, I recommend watching a video about the crochet basics and practicing on a swatch before doing this. Don't give up!
WONDERFUL tutorial! I never thought I could make a hat/beanie. Now I’m going to go crazy and have all kinds of colors for the winter. Thank you! 🥰
Hello! I am on my second beanie and I am making chokers to go with them. Thank you for the instructions. I love it especially since I live in Florida where it gets chilly, but not too cold. Continued success to you for 2020!
Did it fit? Mine was too tight, I had to undo and start with couple of more stitches and go two levels of same pattern 2/1 2/2 and then continued as in the video...
You made this video wonderful! Thank you so much! I made my first crochet project with this video!
First time crocheting and I did this beanie in 2 hours! Great video, very easy to follow.
Learned this pattern the first time almost 2 years ago now to learn how to make a beanie for my cousin, I made 3 from her tutorial. One for my cousin, one for his granddaughter, and one for my friend. So sad to learn of her passing, she was clearly a wonderful person and a great teacher. thank you so much for sharing your love and knowledge of this craft with us!
This is exactly what I was looking for, an easy tutorial! Though I still don't quite have the hang of it I will keep practicing. Thank you!!
This is truly one of the easiest beanie tutorial I've seen so far, the edging makes it looks much better than some of the others.
Im still enjoying watching Melanie tutorial even in her absence she left me more over with a impart able lesson ,,thank u to Mr Hem and mels whole family ❤❤
This is the first hat tutorial i have been able to do!!! Omg its adorable i cant wait to make a billion of these!! Ive finally succeeded using the magic ring!

I love this tutorial video!! Thanks for teaching me how to make my first beanie x
I’m halfway through my first ever crochet project, which happens to be this beanie and I’m loving this tutorial! You are so helpful and you make it very easy to understand. Please never let frustrated people who can’t accept that they need to practise to be good at something and blame you when they don’t make a perfect project first try discourage you from making videos. I know people can be mean, but you’re doing amazing 🌸
Thank you . I just acquired 6 tote boxes of yarn .watched my mother and grandmother crochet for years but never had them teach me. I have some spare time. Now,where I'd like to make some hats and booties and totes so thank you so much for sharing this

Thank you! Finally made my 1st beanie thanks to your tutorial!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am an extreme crochet beginner and I was able to use your video to teach myself the double crochet. I have made several of these hats they are quick and easy and the perfect way for a beginner to practice.

Can you please make a beanie using two different coloured yarn.
Thank you for your awesome videos .

Yesss... it's pointy. she missed a step

To change colors on any project, cut a long tail on the yarn you are currently using, then make sure to simply start using the second color of yarn in your next stich, I know this is a little confusing but I'm sure you could find a video that teaches you how to switch colors, it's easier than it sounds 😊
Yea, it's possible, leave the needle looped in the yarn and tighten it so there's no slack, if you want to switch from one color to another from one entire double stitch to the next cut the yarn off about 2 inches from the needle (the yarn connected to the roll of yarn). Tie the other color to the loose end and clip off the tags. You should have about enough yarn of the original color to make another double stich before you transition into the next color. You may need to experiment with the length of cut offs to get the desired effect.
You lost me at the double crotchet and now I’m crying tears of frustration lol
I get lost there as well. I watched this back when she put it up and I'm not going to give up..
@@junebugg045 good luck 🥲
I've crocheted for many years, but only know a few stitches. I've also only made blankets and scarves. I wanted to "branch" out and make something different, but I consider myself a beginner in that regard. This video has been extremely helpful. I like her style of teaching, not too fast and not too slow. I'm able to follow her easily. My first attempt at a Beanie is not going to be perfect - I know that already. But I'll keep watching the video and I know I'll get better. She's very easy to watch and listen to.
Melanie, thank you for that very simple and easy to follow tutorial. It took me hours to make my first beanie, but I did it! I will be making more!
Thank you hat came out perfect 👌.
Love love love your tutorials, easy to follow, its great!
yaaaa!! really its great!!!😃😃😃
You must not know the basics of crochet not to be able to follow this.
this tutorial was extremely easy to follow! I just found your channel and it is now my favorite!!! my hat turned out PERFECT and you did a very nice job explaining. this is probably the best thing I've crocheted in years thanks to your channel!!! also, thank you for being slow, it really helps us viewers grasp and understand what you're doing and how you are doing it. thanks for explaining the 2dc and dc2... I have been trying to figure that out for years!
I am beginners..and i wanna say THANK YOU!This video extremly inspire me and now i am doing it.God Blessed You as always!!
Very nice tutorial, 2 things though.
1: The hat will be pointy (my first one kinda funny beacuse of this).
2: The size of the hat will be tiiiiny. If you like me got a big head you will need to expand the size MUCH faster, I'm not sure how much yet (have still to get yarn for my second hat) but I will probably try and double the rate of expansion.
Other than that, its a great tutorial, thanks!
The hat shouldn't be pointy.
When I make hats that turn out like a dunce hat it's because I tried to wing the pattern or I made an extra row and waited too long to start increasing.
Zvanteman mine too. Unravelled it twice and then found a different tutorial lol
@Sarah Liao For how many rounds did you do this? :)
You tutorial is very clear and your hat is very pretty. Thanks for sharing (even though im late by almost 2 years)
Yeah, me too lol
Same lol
After finishing my first beanie with this pattern I learned a lesson about tension. I listened to watching the slip stitch and the single crochet but I didn't realize when i started how tight I was crocheting the whole time until the end. This hat is so tightttt
I have done this project 3 times within the past year and I enjoy making this beanie!
Im so happy right now because I've been doing crochet for one year but I would never make hats or beanies or gloves I would only make blankets and scarfs but Right Now I just made a beanie I'm super happy and I want to shout out in the world that " I made a beanie a eleven year old made a beanie , ya hear that world I made a beanie , beanie that fits me and I made a beanie by myself "
I totally relate! I've been doing crochet for, like, 5 years but could never follow a written pattern so I couldn't make anything like this

Melanie I love your videos!!! I would recommend them to anyone especially if your a newbie like some of my granddaughters. Start with the basic videos and it is an awesome hobby to take up. I like the fact that you take your time and go over the stitches several times. Makes it easier for the girls.
