I followed Melanie from the get go. She was such a lovely, adorable young lady. I watched a video of her life last year and cried the whole way through. So very sad 😞. She left 2 young children and a beautiful husband. Melanie was just so talented and she made the most wonderful, easy to follow videos. I miss her very much. You are a wonderful teacher! I’ve been crocheting a blanket and needed a break so I decided to learn how to crochet a beanie. Yours was the first video I clicked on and I love how clear each instruction was! Thank you!!
Best video yet for beginners! I'd never crocheted before but I wanted to learn something new and use it for stress management. Doing this helped me to relax, lower my blood pressure and may have saved me from having a stoke! This video presents the information in a step by step manner, easy to understand and doesn't assume I knew ANYTHING about crocheting before this. (Because I didn't) I'm looking forward to learning more complicated stitches and making all kinds of useful things. Thanks again!

It took me a while, but I have just finally finished it, and I'm so happy with it! It's a gift for my daughter in law for Christmas, I so hope she likes it! Now to try and see if I can make your mittens project too! :)

Hi Melanie, thanks so much for the super-clear tutorial. I've been working up the courage to try crochet - I can sew and I'm a novice knitter but the whole one-hook-and-a-ball-of-yarn thing looks a little scary - but this looks so beginner-friendly that I'm finally going to give it a try! Xx
*after watching through this video without following along* this seems super easy and manageable! i'm actually gonna crochet something! *forty seconds into the video trying to follow along* WHAT IS A SLIPKNOT edit: two days later and i'm making good progress! been using mutliple video tutorials to get more in depth explanations. i had some trouble with how i'd go about the crochet, since i'm left handed and i dont want to restrict myself to left handed tutorials. having said that, i figured out an alright way to get things done, even if it's not as extraordinarily efficient as the taught way to crochet. thank you for this tutorial, i'm excited to hopefully finish this! edit 2: a week later, i just finished it :) girl, fifteen inches was way too long, i dont know how you got the result you did with that. despite the length, i think the hat's gonna look alright. it's in the washer right now hopefully stretching out a bit so it looks better, and if it looks good enough, i'm gonna give it to my grandma :) she's basically on her deathbed and i know she'll love if i give her a gift. thank you for reading my journey :) edit 3: two months (more?) later. yes, i gave the first hat to my grandma, she liked it. she didn't really understand that it was a slouchy hat, so she put it on her head and it looked like a cone, but her reaction was so amazing, i miss her. we live in different states, i'd like to see her again sometime soon. i made another hat and it looks really good, both my mom and my sister wanted it. it's white, with a streak of purple. the purple is honestly just because i ran out of yarn, but it looks cool. i'm making a third hat now, and i've taught myself to crochet properly so i can do it faster. i'm left handed, and i really wanted to learn to crochet right-handed for the sake of tutorials' simplicity, but i surrendered and i can crochet left handed. its not even a big deal, i actually understand tutorials way more than i did before.
So glad to see you are back and feeling well, Melanie! You look great! 😃 Once again, great teaching. If you ever did craft classes they would be a hit!
It's taken a lot longer than it probably should have and it certainly isn't perfect but I am so dam proud of myself for making a hat! A hat I can actually wear! Thank you so much for such a simple to follow, patient, kind tutorial
its like she knows what im thinking in my head when i see her do the endings, and she’s talking back, it’s like blues clues for adults crocheting i love it
I am a super beginner and I made this! It came out really cute. I wasn't sure about how to do the the slip stitch closing but I made it work. Can't wait to make another!
I was just looking for a crochet hat tutorial, but when I went to Melanie's page to seek more, I found out she passed away from cancer. This made me cry. RIP, beautiful soul.
YOU ARE SO GIFTED WITH TEACHING! Thank you so much! I'm so excited to have a hat that is 100% original no one else in earth has this one! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!
Great tutorial love the way yours came out! Tip: 15 IN wasn’t big enough for me so i would suggests when your doing your first row of chains/base chains put it around your head to see if both side touch and make sure that its not too tight around you head either.😁👍🏽
The 15 inch chain at the start is for the height of the hat. You need to do enough rows to fit around your head. For example my head is 22 inches so I start with the 15 inch chain and then do enough rows until I get to a rectangle of 15 by 22 inch.
I’m trying to find my first project I’m really excited I’m going to micheals to get some yarn 100 percent acrilic some chunky some thinner and a hook I can’t wait I might make this my first one eventually to get to sweaters and bees and frogs 😁 Edit: I made a fish instead to get the hang of it lol but now I’m back to this making a hat!
I added a fleece liner to mine, it's much warmer for the -30 we get in the winter, this is my favourite hat so far. I've used various yarn weights and hook sizes. My last few, I've used a 6 mm hook and 4.5 ounce yarn. 44 chains, it's perfect.
Hi Melanie, I made it. The thing is though my ribs are going around in circles instead of being vertical like yours. Maybe I held it the wrong way so I am about to make another. Thank you for helping me get started. That was my very first hat in crochet.
Sounds like you may have closed it the wrong direction. The 15” foundation chain should be the length of the hat not around your head. Does that make sense?
this is the biggest hat i’ve ever crocheted. i would totally suggest sizing it down! i don’t have a small head, but i had to fold it THREE times in order for it to look even remarkably ok. the tutorial was amazing tho
I love this video and this pattern! This was my first completed crochet project, thank you for your explanation and guidance :) very easy to follow and I am so proud of my finished product ❤️
Thank you, your tutorials are easy to follow and great results in making these hats as gifts. Like that there is not a lot of talking except for instructions. Great job.
Melanie, would you be able to help me with a tutorial for baby slippers please. I am going to be a granny any time soon and would love to make these. Best wishes from Northern Ireland. xxx
So I made this... sort of... I love it either way, it sits securely on my crown allowing my bangs free without flattening them to my forehead. My differences is because I wanted horizontal strips of different colours. and her pattern is made vertically. So she made hers chain length and built to diameter. I chained diameter and built to length
Laura Blanco she starts with a chain that’s 15” long for the length of that hat (forehead fold and back) then works until the rectangle fits around her head. What I did was measure around my head and make a chain that long then work up until I reacted that 15”. Making all the lines horizontal.
I don't know what it is but your tutorials are always so easy for me to understand. I struggle with others! Your quilt and sewing videos have been a huge help the past few weeks that I may try your crochet videos as well! I've had a few failed attempts in my past but I'm feeling confident this time around with your help!
I love how my hat turned out using this pattern, but I had trouble attaching a Pom Pom...I bought a faux fur one and it had an elastic strap on it. How would you go about attaching one like this?
I don’t really know what yarn I’m using but I’m using a 1.75 mm hook and I find 0 tutorials that I could really use so I’m glad that you use sizes instead of stitches
i’ve been walking around for the past 5 minutes just repeating “I just made myself a hat” and now i’m wearing it. in august. this is so exciting thank you ahaha

I have have had 3 surgeries on my hands and do not have the dexterity i use to. you were so easy to just sit and listen to then follow. Thank You....
Girl! You have made my life with your instructions. I just made the perfect hat thank you.
However, I am still making her crochet ‘stuff’ which I adore. Much love to get hubby and kidlets from Australia 🇦🇺 💋💋💋
I started crocheting about three weeks ago ,,, you really helped ,,, ive done a few infinity scarves n a baby blanket ,,, tks love jilly
I'm so sad. I only just found you. I will be looking through all your videos- you will live on through them. Prayers for your family.
Thank you! This is the first project I ever actually finished
You are a wonderful teacher! I’ve been crocheting a blanket and needed a break so I decided to learn how to crochet a beanie. Yours was the first video I clicked on and I love how clear each instruction was! Thank you!!
This is a great hat to make for all the people doing chemotherapy and have been going through loosing their hair! Bless You for this easy tutorial!❤
Melanie, thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. Apart from a couple of dodgy granny squares, this was my first crochet project. It took me a while, but I have just finally finished it, and I'm so happy with it! It's a gift for my daughter in law for Christmas, I so hope she likes it! Now to try and see if I can make your mittens project too! :)
This is one of the videos I saw and learn how to start to crochet and did my first mittens . Loved all this videos wow Melanie visiting this place and see how water is so so important , clean water. You did so much . Lovely memories of Our sweet Melanie
Thank you for an absolutely easy pattern and FREE PDF print-out My grand daughter and I are busy together BIG HUG
I saw a post about this beautiful lady's passing and wanted to find out who she was. I came upon this video. What a wonderful instructor! I am going to make this hat even though I know very little about crochet. I'm sorry I haven't followed her before now. May she rest in peace.
Xx
*after watching through this video without following along*
this seems super easy and manageable! i'm actually gonna crochet something!
*forty seconds into the video trying to follow along*
WHAT IS A SLIPKNOT
edit: two days later and i'm making good progress! been using mutliple video tutorials to get more in depth explanations. i had some trouble with how i'd go about the crochet, since i'm left handed and i dont want to restrict myself to left handed tutorials. having said that, i figured out an alright way to get things done, even if it's not as extraordinarily efficient as the taught way to crochet. thank you for this tutorial, i'm excited to hopefully finish this!
edit 2: a week later, i just finished it :) girl, fifteen inches was way too long, i dont know how you got the result you did with that. despite the length, i think the hat's gonna look alright. it's in the washer right now hopefully stretching out a bit so it looks better, and if it looks good enough, i'm gonna give it to my grandma :) she's basically on her deathbed and i know she'll love if i give her a gift. thank you for reading my journey :)
edit 3: two months (more?) later. yes, i gave the first hat to my grandma, she liked it. she didn't really understand that it was a slouchy hat, so she put it on her head and it looked like a cone, but her reaction was so amazing, i miss her. we live in different states, i'd like to see her again sometime soon. i made another hat and it looks really good, both my mom and my sister wanted it. it's white, with a streak of purple. the purple is honestly just because i ran out of yarn, but it looks cool. i'm making a third hat now, and i've taught myself to crochet properly so i can do it faster. i'm left handed, and i really wanted to learn to crochet right-handed for the sake of tutorials' simplicity, but i surrendered and i can crochet left handed. its not even a big deal, i actually understand tutorials way more than i did before.
I just finished making a hat for the winter during quarantine and I love it sooo much! Thankyou!☺
How long did it take?
@@fidellaelyssia8231 About 5 hours!
its like she knows what im thinking in my head when i see her do the endings, and she’s talking back, it’s like blues clues for adults crocheting i love it
Just finished making my first beanie , and just wanted to say thank you for this awesome tutorial!!! ❤️❤️
I am a super beginner and I made this! It came out really cute. I wasn't sure about how to do the the slip stitch closing but I made it work. Can't wait to make another!
Thank you for sharing these two videos (hat & mittens)! You are so genuine. Prayers & blessings for continued great health!
This is probably the easiest pattern I’ve seen on how to make a hat! Thank you for walking us through, step by step.
I can’t believe I was able to actually do this and it turned out nice! Thank you Melanie!
I was just looking for a crochet hat tutorial, but when I went to Melanie's page to seek more, I found out she passed away from cancer. This made me cry. RIP, beautiful soul.
OMG this was such a good tutorial. I had just started crocheting 🧶 and this tutorial was so clear and easy.🤩😝
I want to thank her for her training and send my sympathy to her family.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I’m trying to find my first project I’m really excited I’m going to micheals to get some yarn 100 percent acrilic some chunky some thinner and a hook I can’t wait I might make this my first one eventually to get to sweaters and bees and frogs 😁
Edit: I made a fish instead to get the hang of it lol but now I’m back to this making a hat!
I added a fleece liner to mine, it's much warmer for the -30 we get in the winter, this is my favourite hat so far. I've used various yarn weights and hook sizes. My last few, I've used a 6 mm hook and 4.5 ounce yarn. 44 chains, it's perfect.
Glad to read this! I just started today. Mine ended up 45 chains w/ 6.5mm hook. Did u notice a difference between inside/outside texture?
Hi Melanie, I made it. The thing is though my ribs are going around in circles instead of being vertical like yours. Maybe I held it the wrong way so I am about to make another. Thank you for helping me get started. That was my very first hat in crochet.
mine too! :/
Thank you for the free pdf. Gonna go get yarn now...can't wait!! My first project in years and years!!
U r a gem ! I am a beginner. U explain and make it easy to understand I am just smiling that I am crocheting. Love it !
I love this video and this pattern! This was my first completed crochet project, thank you for your explanation and guidance :) very easy to follow and I am so proud of my finished product ❤️
How long did it take you to finish? I want to make three as Christmas gifts but I worry about having enough time.
Thank you, your tutorials are easy to follow and great results in making these hats as gifts. Like that there is not a lot of talking except for instructions. Great job.
I used your method to make myself a candy corn hat for fall!! It’s adorable thanks for posting this
What a great idea!
I made one. Thank you for the video,it is truly amazing to see what you can do with your hands. I'm going to make for my whole family.
Melanie, would you be able to help me with a tutorial for baby slippers please. I am going to be a granny any time soon and would love to make these. Best wishes from Northern Ireland. xxx
I am so excited that I was able to make a wonderful hat and hide all my mistakes with this amazing design! Thank you so much!
So I made this... sort of... I love it either way, it sits securely on my crown allowing my bangs free without flattening them to my forehead. My differences is because I wanted horizontal strips of different colours. and her pattern is made vertically. So she made hers chain length and built to diameter. I chained diameter and built to length
Can you explain a bit more on how to do that difference,I like her patter but I do also want horizontal lines. Thanks
Laura Blanco she starts with a chain that’s 15” long for the length of that hat (forehead fold and back) then works until the rectangle fits around her head.
What I did was measure around my head and make a chain that long then work up until I reacted that 15”. Making all the lines horizontal.
Thank you will try.
This tutorial is one of the best I have ever watched. Love my new hat!!! Thank you!!
I'm wearing your hat in my profile pic! Thank you so much!
no you’re not.
Ummm, posted 11 months ago changed profile pic several times since then
@@virginiaboyer4102 oh m’fault
I don't know what it is but your tutorials are always so easy for me to understand. I struggle with others! Your quilt and sewing videos have been a huge help the past few weeks that I may try your crochet videos as well! I've had a few failed attempts in my past but I'm feeling confident this time around with your help!
I love how my hat turned out using this pattern, but I had trouble attaching a Pom Pom...I bought a faux fur one and it had an elastic strap on it. How would you go about attaching one like this?
OMG I miss Melanie and her tutorials 😢😭
Awesome hat Melanie! Simple but elegant. Can’t wait to make this one. It looks great on you.
Thanks! 💕🧶🦋🌼
I don’t really know what yarn I’m using but I’m using a 1.75 mm hook and I find 0 tutorials that I could really use so I’m glad that you use sizes instead of stitches
Best tutorial.. just finished it today.. and im loving it😍
Thank you so much for you're videos. You are a gift from God. I couldn't chrochet at all. I learned what I know from you're videos. Thank you so much❤
Love the hat and mittens, you have a great teaching style and easy to follow for the beginner and experienced. Love all your tutorials.
This was the easiest hat to make. Thank you so much for the easy to follow tutorial. I am so excited to be able to say that I made a hat.
