      I planned our wedding, bought a house, went abroad to get married, came back, spent weeks renovating the house, moved, continued renovating whilst living at the new house. That was total 8 months of non stop work. Buying the dress was a challenge in itself, if I were to make one I'd have another mental breakdown to add to the several I had in the course of the last 8 months 😅

    The fact the dress essentially was knitted during days out and places you visited and days you loved is like knitting the good memories and love into your dress and wearing them as you get married to your love it just seems so sentimental and lovely xx

    When I was seventeen I crocheted 7 dresses ( one for every day of the week). I received sooooo many compliments. When I was 21 I had my first child and used one of those crochet dresses to make a pillow sham and pram cover! For my wedding I always wanted to get married in midnight blue velvet, which I did, however I had two 10 year old bridesmaids and I designed and sewed their white dresses which were edged in blue. All the clothes for both my babies were crocheted by me or knitted by my mother. I have continued the tradition by crocheting little jackets for my two great grandsons, who were born this year.

    If anyone is getting shoulder or wrist pain while knitting, use a boppy pillow (pillow for breastfeeding u shape wraps around your waist). I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and this trick has helped me continue to knit. My physical therapist loved this so much she was sharing with other patients, so physical therapist approved.
    Your wedding dress is absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth all the anxiety I’m sure it caused, along with moving right before a wedding.

    • @ChronicallyCurious
      @ChronicallyCurious 2 года назад +13

      That’s an awesome hack! I have chronic pain and am a patient outreach supervisor at work (and post stuff for patients here), and I’ll definitely pass this hack along and use it myself! Writing is very difficult for me, and while knitting isn’t quite as hard, I definitely have an upper limit. I think with more support, I won’t grip the needles so tightly, and fend off fatigue for longer! Thanks so much for commenting this. 😊

    • @dacktal75
      @dacktal75 2 года назад +7

      @@ChronicallyCurious yes please share, it’s such a huge help for me! Writing is harder for me than knitting too, it’s funny. I only find I grip too hard with smaller needles now. My shoulders and back don’t ache after knitting with the boppy too. I also use it on car trips when I’m passenger, it’s even helping my car sickness because I’m not sloshing around as much. It helps the pain of car trips quiet a bit. I hope you find you can knit longer with this hack.

    • @AmaraJordanMusic
      @AmaraJordanMusic 2 года назад +5

      @@dacktal75 Yeah, it’s the smaller needles for me too! I’m starting more lightweight yarns for hats and mittens and it’s a struggle because it takes so long to see any progress, and my hands get so cramped so quickly!
      But, I’m hopeful that this time next year I’ll be working on knitting some baby blankets, so I’m trying to get used to this more finicky size. 😊 Also, having a boppy already on hand will be helpful. 😅
      Thanks so much, again!

    • @Magpiebard
      @Magpiebard Год назад +2

      Thanks so much for this hint. I was in a bad car accident a few years ago that left my left hand a bit crook - huge chunk of fingers and palm are total dead zones. Can't feel heat/pressure/anything. Weirdest feeling in the world. Sliced thru a major tendon too. I can ~use~ the hand, thankfully, but it when I do anything that requires repeated motions for a long chunk of time, my whole arm begins to cramp and it all just starts to hurt like blazes. Knitting became physical therapy for me but while it has immensely helped me improve my range of motion and use of my hand, the mix of the damage and rheumatoid arthritis play merry hell on my shoulder and wrist. Soon as I've finished this, I'm off to order a pillow and am hopeful it will help. (If not, eh, I've now got a comfy pillow!) I'm wondering if it would help with writing too. (Weirdly? My writing has always been pretty terrible. I'm ambidextrous but I've also broken both wrists and multiple parts of each hand over the years - I'm the queen of klutz 🙃- which has muddled up writing for years for me, but at least I can swap hands depending on what stupid thing I've most recently done BUT my calligraphy and illumination skills are pretty top notch. But since the accident, more than maybe 30 min and my shoulder is on fire and my hand starts to shake. And using ink instead of a 'real' pen makes that a rather.... splashy experience! Here's hoping a bit of a grip like this pillow will help mitigate the issue. I just need to make sure to get one that matches the ink I use.... lol. I'm knitting a sweater at the moment and anything that will let me knit longer than 10 minutes before wanting to wimp out would be amazing!

    • @dacktal75
      @dacktal75 Год назад +1

      @@Magpiebard I really hope this works for you too! Trying to write with it is an excellent idea. I don’t know if you saw my reply to another commenter but I also use a boppy for when I’m traveling in the passenger seat, it helps stabilize my arms more and I’m not as fatigued with finding a spot to put them. I hope it affords you more time to knit your sweater.

May have even needed to buy another skein of yarn. When it was complete I blocked it, but it was taking forever to dry, so I eventually hung it up. It stretched about 5 inches and is now a tunic! LOL 🤣 And to add insult to injury, when I wore it, it left a thick layer of lint everywhere.

    My Aunt crocheted / knitted my communion dress in 1980 from silk yarn too. I live in Australia so being summer it was to the knee and short sleeved. At the time I thought I wished I had the long satin wedding looking dresses the other girls had, ( I never said it out loud) but now I appreciate how much work went into it and how special and unique it was.😍

      Yep many are wanting to make and design their own garments, it also depends on what part of the world you live in too, in the Shetland’s and in the North of the world where winters are long and the days are really short during that time, knitting/crochet keeps you occupied. Knitting is part of our family life Grandma would knit 6 Shetland lace shawls in a night to sell as they were popular with the tourist it was what put food on the table the next day. So Mom and me Aunty grew up knitting from a very very young age Mom was 3 when she learned to knit. I was 11 took me longer to get the knitting bug😹😹😹
      Knitting is very popular in Japan as well, they have some wonderful patterns and I have fallen in love with Afghan/Tunisian knitting/crochet which is done with just a long hooked needle. It’s so good to see a new generation learning the art.

    Girl I salute you! You knocked that dress out of the water. You have a wonderful talent to be able to work all those cable patterns out to create such a beautiful dress, I love it. It is stunning and should be exhibited in a museum. Well done you and massive congratulations on your recent marriage. May God grant you both many years of happiness, health and wealth. Much love from England....x

    AND! You wore that dress like a second skin. It moved right with you and so sleek and elegant! Congratulations! May you and your husband also move so freely through life together!

    What a stunning dress! I love the idea of getting married in a new home where one plans on building a life with their partner. And the fact that you made your dress just like you are making your home is poetic to me. Dreamy. May you have heath and happiness in your home and marriage! Thanks for sharing.

    What a beautiful and meaning-filled journey. The dress is gorgeous and entirely in sync with your spirit and even with the aesthetic of your wedding. So many questions. How did the weight of it feel? Did you take in the bigness of this feat and accomplishment? Here’s to a life filled with love in marriage, bliss, and purpose!!
