You are a great teacher.... Only if I would have teachers like you in school!!! But back in the 50-60s, with me having ADHD!! School was impossible, for me...Bless you and your family, always...Joy Bradford 💕
Thank you Christine :). That is so nice to hear! I will be doing up a new video soon making this out of super bulky - there is a lot of size issues when the bulky yarn because there are different thicknesses. Thank you for being here and making me part of your day. Have a great weekend!
For anyone wondering, this pattern works just fine with a smaller hook and yarn. Best results are following it with a doubke crochet, but if you want to use single, you have to create more increase rounds. It does take some eyeballing and measuring to get the size right doing it with the single, but it is possible
di used to crochet about 25 years ago, but made a lot of potholders, and having to refresh and relearn a lot of what i knew. This is a simple fun pattern that you made easy to make. i would make it a little longer than 6" next time to cover my ears better, but it looks great, and will impress many! thanks!
To be honest this tutorial is one of the easiest I have attempted with success. Your style of teaching is easy for beginners like myself! I actually completed this with success. , it's my first successful piece ever 😊
You have no idea how happy this made me to wake up to this!!! It is people like you that make me want to do more videos!!! Thank you :) xoxoxoxo Be sure to check out my COMMUNITY page to have your say - or post here what you would like me to do next.
People like to push dislike just to make someone feel bad. If I watched this video and didn't like it I would just move on to the next one it just shows how some people are just mean. That being said what an amazing video and so easy to follow I'm about to try it right now
OMG!! Just attaching the yarn to the rubber bands gave me an anxiety attack!! 🤣🤣 I was so stressed that I actually made 37 stitches. 🤣😂 I'm VERY new to crocheting and looking for some easy videos to practice all the stitches on. After I got over the anxiety attack, I was able to finish the hat and I'm very proud of myself, lol! Not too shabby. I'm subbing and thank you for the great video. Looking forward to more. 💜🌻🧡🌷💛
Thanks for making this as easy as singing my ABCs! I know this video is 4 years old, its new to me! I love crocheting but sometimes no motivation or inspired. But this video kept me in a happy space and place to finish!! Anyway thanks!!
Thank you for showing me how to do this. I wasn’t able to do the double ring of yarn you did in the beginning so I just crocheted around the hairband. It turned out very nice!
I just found your video and thought it was great. I’ve been crocheting for many many yrs and in my opinion this is by far the easiest and best video on making a messy bun hat. (the rubber-band is perfect). I’ve searched for a pattern and stumbled upon yours. 😊 happy days.
Love the idea of enploying the rubber band! That's really thinking out if the box, so kudos to you! I also like single and half double crochet much better than the doubles so many others use. I'm going to try this with a lighter #3 weight yarn for the warmer months, as well. Your child is adorable! Thank you for easily understood instructions.
2:30 cast on 30 single crochet. 3:20 end of round 2 5:34 end of round 3 6:37 End of round 4 should have 42 stitches 7:20 End of round 5 should have 48 stitches from then on no increases . Just continue single crochet. 8:30 When the hat reaches 6" from top to brim, time to change colors. 9:30 change color
You are an awesome teacher! Your video was great!!! So easy to follow and see exactly what your doing.... that’s just absolutely wonderful!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
You are an awesome teacher, I completed the hat, and changed the bottom to a double stitch, because I did not have another color yarn , and it turned out adorable, but I don’t know how to add a photo.
Wow, great directions and super easy to follow. Directions are clear and the video was easy to understand and follow along with. You are definitely my favorite person to watch. Thank you
You are so welcome Kim :) I am glad you enjoyed it! I will be posting regularly in this year so you might want to consider subscribing :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I love your pattern. Very simple. I agree with others as this is probably the best project I have completed and I have made a lot of hats, scarves and blankets in the past. As far as people complaining it's too fast...this isn't a video to teach you how to crochet, it is to teach you a beginner pattern. That is why there is a pause button ;) I have yet to find a video perfectly paced for my own abilities and speed. They are either too fast or waaaay too slow. i thought you did well. I paused where you paused, completed the work and resumed. After watching I jotted down your rounds and I have no issue completing the project. Thank you :) I would say, type of yarn is huge for this. It's hard to run out and buy the exact yarn that is used in videos. My yarn isn't stretchy at all...and I felt it was needed for this to be a perfect hat.
I followed the same pattern except I did it with dc instead of sc and I finished my rounds with slip stitch so I didn’t have to count. I would have lost count I’m sure. My border is a row of dc, a round of hdc, and 2 rounds of sc with black. I’ll send a pic of mine. Thanks so much for sharing. This is my first ponytail hat.
Came across this pattern, and decided to give it a go. I did alter it slightly (because I absolutely detest sc 😆), using hdc in its place, with the exception of the first two rounds, kept that sc
Awesome instructional video. Very easy to follow along with. I have one question. I have really thick hair, so if I wanted to make it a bit wider, how many should I start off with on the hair tie? I know if I just increase it by a few, it will throw off the ending of each row. Or does it not matter as long as I keep to the pattern? Thanks again for sharing!!!
It was a very helpful first timer video. Although I got super confused when increasing the stich to a larger round. I tried slowing down the video but then I get the youtube pause button on my screen and I can't see. I used regular yarn - in the end, my hat was way too small - either I have a big head or too much hair (my husband says too much hair lol) it would have been nice to know if you can increase the loops (from 33) on the start of the elastic to make a bigger size...? My bad - regular yarn leaves too many gaps on the finished product - so I will try again with a thicker fuller yarn or wool. Lots of useful tips
LOL some days.... LOL. Hard to say for a 3 year old they are right on the cusp. I would say judge by the size of her. My boys were always big and in adult hats by that age same with my grandkids. So if she is on the smaller size maybe 4 less stitches. Hope this helps.
I was able to make a ponytail beanie thanks to you! You're video is so easy to follow as I'm fairly new to crocheting. I've have people at my moms church ask for me to make their daughters some and my next batch is for 2 older kids and a 3 year old. If you could make a video on how to make one for a 3 year old that would be awesome cause I can't find one except the normal beanies and they want the ponytail beanies.
Ok cool thank you so much! My mom is like I need one for a 3 year old and my jaw dropped like uh...how do I resize something with crocheting lol I'll be sure to sign up. Thank you again for your video!
I know this video is 2 years old now but i came across this because I am making a gift for someone and out of all the videos I saw this was easiest to understand and the hat turned out great
Awesome video, no time wasted for advanced crocheters, can this pattern be done with a double crochet if we stick to the measurements? Also I used 2 hair bands in case one breaks it would give the hat a longer life. Thanks
It was an easy video to follow but the adult sized hat wouldn't fit my child sized head. I also used 2 yarn strands at once so it did make the hat larger. I am disappointed that I did not get to wear this in the winter. Thanks for sharing though! ☺
Love this, I'm not having all the good luck tho. Lol mines curled still at row 7.. should I pull out?.. Lol Yep in new but love love this and the color.. Thank you🌹
I was looking a messy bun for my daughter and tried a couple and this was the nicest most simple pattern I found with the elastic! And checked ur blog and love the monkey hat!!! Naturally I subscribed. Love the video. Will definitely be sharing this video
I loved the video. It was very clear and easy to follow. The pattern doesn’t disappoint, but my head was too big.😭 That’s ok, I’ll gift it to someone else ( with a smaller head ). 😂 Thanks! Great job.😊
I’ve already made one of these by this pattern, and I measured the hat. It measures 16.75” I’m going to venture to say that might be a infant maybe a preemie size hat. 😂🤣😂🤣 It turned out adorable but way too small for my head which measures 23”. I’m still relatively new to crocheting. So I was wondering if you could explain to me how to increase each round to make the hat fit my big head? 😂🤣😂🤣 Or maybe even do a new video showing us how to make a adult size hat? PLEASE! 💗
Hey Kim, A lot of the time it could be the yarn. I made one a few months back and used a new skein of the Loops and Threads Charisma and it came out to small for even my grand daughter. I am thinking of adding a pattern to my blog and doing a tutorial using super bulky as that seems to have less issues. Would that help?
Absolutely LOVE your video! (in my opinion) It's by far the best and easiest 'how to(crochet) video' on RUclips! What kind of camera are you using? It's amazing. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with everyone!
I just made a hat using the elastic and it turned out great! I'm going to run out and get that yarn and make another for my daughter to match her monkey socks I picked up from Roots. I think I'll drink my coffee before I start though lol. Merry Christmas🎄
I love that you used a hair tie! Would this work just as good using double crochet stitch? Do you have a pattern for the DC stitch or could I use any pattern and if so how many stitches would I start out with? Thank you so much
Hi Donna - I haven't tried but I really think that you could use any pattern. I would suggest starting with any where from 28-34 sts. Pay attention to the multiple of your pattern too - that will matter. Also if you are using worsted or bulky you may need a few more or a few less. Hope this helps :) MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Love this video I made my first ever crochet project with your video. It fits my head perfectly snug. How would I using this video as a reference make this beanie wider?
That’s wonderful! You would need to do another increase around to add a few more stitches depending on how big you wanted to make it and what you are and you were using. I’m sure this doesn’t help much as a beginner. How much larger would you need to make it?
LMAO I know i tried to get done when the boys weren't home and then for the last part - did you notice my voice was softer? That was in the morning when they were sleeping lol :)
Thank u it's really simple and easy i would l'île to know is it for adultes or children because i've tried to pass over m'y head but seems like my head is si big
I generally mark just once and then count my rounds near ending the project - to me as long as you know generally where the last increase round ends you are good :)
Great tutorial!! I'm new to crocheting and have trouble keeping the yarn tension, especially on foundation chains. Do you have any tips? Thanks so much
I know that problem well. You may want to watch my washcloth tutorial - it is kinda boring but it is a great project to get used to your tension. I find the number one problem with being new to crochet is pulling your stitches too tight. Try to keep your hands relaxed and your mention on the loose side. If you get a square worked up message me with picture on Facebook and I will have a look to see if I have any more suggestions. xo

I'm using worsted weight and a size 8 hook. Would just starting at 34 St and adding a few [2 or 3] increase rounds work?
I was wondering why mine would fit a baby.
di used to crochet about 25 years ago, but made a lot of potholders, and having to refresh and relearn a lot of what i knew. I adore this hat and the pattern. I'll be making these for my granddaughters. Yes I'm obsessed with crochet now that I've found such a great teacher.
Thank you for showing me how to do this. I wasn’t able to do the double ring of yarn you did in the beginning so I just crocheted around the hairband. It turned out very nice!
You are so welcome! What ever works for you :)

+Jennifer you are very welcome!
I made this in 3 hours!!! I love this!! So nice and easy to follow!! Thank you!!! 💗
I love this !! Thank you so much! I made this for my mother in law in grey and pink 💕 she’s going to love it !
Thanks so much, this is my first hat, that I can get my long plait through the top. New to crochet, love to have more patterns
You are so welcome! Be sure to check out my blog www.prettydarnadorable.com more pattern there and adding more all the time :)
SO cute..Adding it to my "must do" crochet list. Your video is VERY well done. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much!
This was soooo easy to follow. Every other tutorial had me stumped. Thank you!
Best video ever!💋👍💜
2:30 cast on 30 single crochet.
3:20 end of round 2
5:34 end of round 3
6:37 End of round 4 should have 42 stitches
7:20 End of round 5 should have 48 stitches from then on no increases . Just continue single crochet.

You are an awesome teacher! Your video was great!!! So easy to follow and see exactly what your doing.... that’s just absolutely wonderful!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
Did one right along with you, turned out great, thanks.
I also like the stitch marker you are using. Can't wait to get started on this project. Thank you so much.
Barbara OConnor I've also used Bobby Pins as stitch markers.
Me too! I usually have more of those on hand than i do stitch markers ;)
Looking at your hands, you crochet very skillfully. I also want to be like you.
Thank you so much 😀 You totally can do it - just keep crocheting!
You are an awesome teacher, I completed the hat, and changed the bottom to a double stitch, because I did not have another color yarn , and it turned out adorable, but I don’t know how to add a photo.
wow you explain so well , I can understand what you are saying ty
Easiest tutorial EVER! Absolutely fantastic! I created 2! And you showed me how to switch colors effortlessly! 🙌❤
Wow, great directions and super easy to follow. Directions are clear and the video was easy to understand and follow along with. You are definitely my favorite person to watch. Thank you
That means so much thank you!
Thank you, you're video, is easy yo follow, hat is a gem... thank you, again. Blessings to you, for sharing.

Sooo easy. Only took me an hour. Thanks for an easy to follow video 😁
Great to hear!
Love the pattern and video. Super easy to follow with a beautiful finished project.
Thanks so much Sylvia!

I'm on Instagram if you would like to tag me - i would love to see :)
So happy to see a smaller hole for thinner hair! The holes are always too big! TY!
Thank you, love this hat.
I would love this pattern in a regular beanie, not sure how many stitches to.add at at the top. Please and thank you.
I can't wait to try this!! Seems super simple!! And I am definitely in need of those markers and the fray glue!! Thanks so much!!
You are so welcome - hope you had a chance to give it a go :)
Yes ma'am I have!! I've made several!!! This was the start of me mastering my crochet hook!!
Thanks for giving us that information I made that hat and it was so beautiful
Came across this pattern, and decided to give it a go. I did alter it slightly (because I absolutely detest sc 😆), using hdc in its place, with the exception of the first two rounds, kept that sc
Does the hdc make a tighter or looser weave? Thanks!

Great “how to video”, really. It was easy to follow and I loved the surprise ending lol thanks for posting 🙂

Love it! I did one for my daughter. Winter it's around the corner!! Tell hi to your little boy. He's cute! Thanks for the tutorial! 😉
Little late on my reply so WINTER IS HERE!!! I hope your daughter loved her hat :) I will tell him HAPPY NEW YEAR! XO
I smiled when your background sounds like my house every day lol. If I wanted to do this for a 3 year old, would it be the same or less increases?
LOL some days.... LOL. Hard to say for a 3 year old they are right on the cusp. I would say judge by the size of her. My boys were always big and in adult hats by that age same with my grandkids. So if she is on the smaller size maybe 4 less stitches.

I made this hat for my daughter and she absolutely loved it! I did use charisma yarn as it's my favorite anyway!
Thank you for your videos. I'm a beginner and you made it so simple.
Beautiful hat. I love your color choices.
Thanks so much Tracey :)
Thanks! This was my very first project and it turned out perfectly.
Awesome video! I LOVE this pattern! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!~

I know this video is 2 years old now but i came across this because I am making a gift for someone and out of all the videos I saw this was easiest to understand and the hat turned out great
Awesome video, no time wasted for advanced crocheters, can this pattern be done with a double crochet if we stick to the measurements? Also I used 2 hair bands in case one breaks it would give the hat a longer life. Thanks
Thank you for sharing ❤️ the great step by step instructions
Love the pattern and the video I’m working on mine currently. It seems pretty small though so I hope it actually fits in my head haha
Yea finished mine up and it’s definitely pretty small. I even checked my stitches and I didn’t drop any or anything like that.
@@tabithiawilliamson9011 It's either the weight of your yarn or your stitches being too tight.
Love this tutorial! So, easy to follow along. Thank you. ☺️
So glad! Thank you for being here!
So glad! Thank you for being here!
It was an easy video to follow but the adult sized hat wouldn't fit my child sized head. I also used 2 yarn strands at once so it did make the hat larger. I am disappointed that I did not get to wear this in the winter. Thanks for sharing though! ☺
Great video! Easy to follow for beginners. Great instructor!
Is there any way u can tell me how to make it bigger. This size didn’t fit me. I absolutely love this pattern. Super easy very well explained.
Love this, I'm not having all the good luck tho. Lol mines curled still at row 7.. should I pull out?..
Lol
Yep in new but love love this and the color..
Thank you🌹
Thanks mam I'm also learnd how to make this hat. have a nice day bye.
I was looking a messy bun for my daughter and tried a couple and this was the nicest most simple pattern I found with the elastic! And checked ur blog and love the monkey hat!!! Naturally I subscribed. Love the video. Will definitely be sharing this video
I'm so glad! Welcome!
I think this is the pattern for me! Thank you and Merry Christmas!!!
Wonderful!!! Enjoy :) And Merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks, so pretty combination of the colors. I’ll try it soon 🔜!
Happy Holidays 🎄🧣to you!
Thank you and to you too! xo
I loved the video. It was very clear and easy to follow. The pattern doesn’t disappoint, but my head was too big.😭 That’s ok, I’ll gift it to someone else ( with a smaller head ). 😂 Thanks! Great job.😊
BEAUTIFUL thank you so much for the beautiful tutorial
You are so welcome
Love this pattern - so pretty and clever! Thanks for great instructions and such a pleasing voice! :)
Thanks so much :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!
For this pattern do you think you could us half double or double crochet for a different look
Wow great tutorial and pattern ... thank you for sharing this!
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed it!
Would that help?
ilse de villiers Thank you I LOVE IT
Absolutely LOVE your video! (in my opinion) It's by far the best and easiest 'how to(crochet) video' on RUclips! What kind of camera are you using? It's amazing. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with everyone!
Thanks so much!! I use a Canon HR500 easy to use but the battery life is terrible I would suggest getting a second battery:)
HI DeAnne thank you so much! It is a Canon umm okay I need to dig it out and will post the model lol.

Loved the tutorial my hat came out so nice . Great ideas and I’ll continue to use this pattern . Thank you for sharing .
I just made a hat using the elastic and it turned out great! I'm going to run out and get that yarn and make another for my daughter to match her monkey socks I picked up from Roots. I think I'll drink my coffee before I start though lol. Merry Christmas🎄
LOL Always coffee first! Would love to see what you make I'm on Instagram and Facebook if you want to share :) xo
thank you, thank you ! This was so easy and looks really cute !
How do we go about making it bigger or smaller please? Excited to try this! Yay
Excellent tutorial! Simple, clear, and understandable!🌺
If your using smaller yarn do you need to do more increases till the top is the width you need ? Before continuing without the increases?
Working on it now, and I added one more row with the increase and it worked well!
Thank you so much for this video.i was finally able to make this hat.it was so easy!
Thank you. That's lovely.
Very nice video. I would love to do a mommy and me hat with this same pattern. Any suggestions how to change the pattern to fit a 3 yr old?
Great video and you have a beautiful voice
Love this video I made my first ever crochet project with your video. It fits my head perfectly snug. How would I using this video as a reference make this beanie wider?
That’s wonderful! You would need to do another increase around to add a few more stitches depending on how big you wanted to make it and what you are and you were using. I’m sure this doesn’t help much as a beginner. How much larger would you need to make it?
Checking in to see how you made out with the extra four stitches
Nice and easy, thank you for this tutorial!!!!
Thanks I agree - you are so welcome!
Pretty Darn Adorable Crochet Tutorials Love this pattern!
Thank you so much! XO
Great video... I was wondering about the noise in the back ground... Hello to the cutie culprit 😃
I’ve made 3 hats like this using your great tutorial. I would like to make this same hat without the ponytail hole. Do you have a tutorial for that?
I do :) Here ya go prettydarnadorable.com/2017/09/20/super-bulky-beanie/
I’m super new to crochet and was wondering what you needed to mark it for if you were going to just continue it all the way around.
I generally mark just once and then count my rounds near ending the project - to me as long as you know generally where the last increase round ends you are good :)
Awesome I going to give this a try looks so easy 🌺
Excellent! Hope you had fun :)
very good video, and very clear, and easy to understand.
How would you go about using a worsted weight yarn please???
thank you :)
If you get a square worked up message me with picture on Facebook and I will have a look to see if I have any more suggestions. xo
Do you have measurements for the circumstance and the hight? I am using smaller yarn
You’re very easy to follow!! Can you please do a mitten one!!
I used different colors but your tutorial was great!
Would love to see it - here is my Facebook facebook.com/prettydarnadorable/
Thank you, Thank you for this!!! What a blessing you are!!! How do I save this video for future?

It is Charisma yarn by Loops and Threads
Do you have the same hat without the hole? I'd like to make a hat for my son as well and you were super easy to follow.
Love this pattern. Easy to follow. Would love to send you pic of my hat. Where can I send it too?
