Who are you, it feels like you're right here next to me, showing me something I should have known about forever. I am in my late sixties and I am learning something new. I never knew I could crochet 🧶 a thermo stitch. It really looks like a warm thermal fabric. I am amazed. I like how you described everything in detail and your voice is soft and smooth when talking to your subscribers. The Bronx , New York.
Thank you for this! My mom has a lot of health issues that give her immune problems. She also has thinning hair and so in short, she catches chills a lot and gets sick a lot. She asked me to make her a simple beanie that would really be warm for going outside and one she could use at night to wear to bed to keep her head warm. I looked and looked for patterns, but the stitches weren't tight enough for my liking to keep the cold out. This was more than perfect and mom loves it. Now I'll be making more beanies for her in different colors. Thank you!
You know, I HAD been wondering how best to make a hat in thermal stitch. I had already worked out how to work it in the round, as well as increasing/decreasing, to get the gist of the basics. So, this tutorial popping up in my recommendations really is a blessing. Thank you for doing the last and most difficult part of adapting a stitch for a hat: figuring out the counts and timing.
I have never crocheted in the round where you turn your work… so interesting. I want to make this the way this pattern shows AND also without turning to see the difference. I’m so curious. Thank you for the tutorial. 😊
Sarah I finally learned how to do this after so many unsuccessful attempts. Your white color video is much clear than the other one. Thank you for the teaching. I do this for my son who is working in the North
This is a great tutorial, my hat turned out great but I had to undo a bit of it to add more stitches before the decrease rounds as it was too short, I was wondering if there is a measurement instead of counting rows to know when it is time to start decrease rounds? Thanks so much!
Phewwww! 😅 Finished my first thermal stitch hat! It kicked my behind for several froggings, but I have prevailed!! Thank you for this tutorial, it was easy to follow and I plan on making at least two more now that I’ve learned something new.
@@mariapappas-rogich6235 it’s when you have to pull/rip out a row or several rows because of a missed or incorrect stitch. crocheted this hat and yes, it did take a while to get done. But it is a beautiful, warm and cozy hat. I usually don't wear hats as they don't fit right or don't feel comfortable enough. This is now my favourite hat to wear. Plan to crochet the striped one with worsted weight yarn soon. Thank you for this lovely pattern and excellent tutorial.
Oh my. That hat is fantastic! I watched your other thermal stitch videos, have yet to try it. But now I really think I need to 😊 Thank you so much for taking the time to share this pattern with us. Have a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe, stay healthy.
@@cherb_soco1891 Two strands of cotton yarn and a 6 mm hook and the end result is the very first potholder ever that doesn‘t get my fingers hurt. Yes, I am extremely sensitive to heat. Thermal stitch is just sooo great. I just finished some safety wristwarmers for myself, with neon stripes and reflective thread, and a colorway I really like, and they are big enough to fit over my gloves for when I use my bicycle. Thank you SO much! I love doing the thermal stitch. I've made several scarves using it. Now with your wonderful tutorial, I'll be able to make sets as gifts. 🙂
Love the beauty of this stitch. I have been dabbling wit Tunisian needles. Guess it is time to play with the regular crochet needles. This beanie is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
My hat is coming along nicely. I was wondering how tall your hat is before the decrease rows start and the finished height. This is for my son-in-law and his head is big. Thank you!

It's just a bit fiddly in the beginning, then you'll get into the groove. I learned it years ago & holding it sort of sideways (as done here)makes it much easier. Give it a try! You'll enjoy it. 🙂
Left handed and struggling. Using a light weight 3 acrylic and 4 mm hook. Created foundation chain twice, second time with 5mm hook as it became so hard to do the next row and nearly impossible for the thermal stitch. Will keep trying as I love the look of this hat/pattern.
This is a beautiful cap. It looks more like knitting which I’ve tried but can’t do. Two left hands I guess. 😆 When learning a new stitch, I find having the stitch count at the end of row. Just a suggestion. Thanks for posting. I’m going to try as a b’day gift. Have a blessed day.
Hi there, lovely hat & I have gorgeous yarn, ready to go but I have a daft question if anyone can help! Please?! I did my foundation chain (120 stitches) and it came out at 26”. Should I just take off 5” (about 24 stitches) to get to a 21” head or does the hat come up smaller by the time you’ve done a few rows of thermal stitich?
Can you tell me the secret to connecting the rows. First row, fine. However, the other row connections are messy. When I look at her finished product, the connections are perfectly straight. I would appreciate your help.
@alhead7215 the first 3 rows are Def the hardest for me too. It's kinda hard for me to explain. I just do a slip stitch to join, chain 1, turn. The chain 1 i leave kinda loose because when you turn and do the first few stitches it can be too tight and hard to see when you make it all the way around to join again.
This is a beautiful beanie, neatly crocheted and I love it so much. Will make a few in different colors to give as gifts. Thank you for this clear tutorial. Lovely design.🥰
gorgeous pattern! I dropped 30 stitches from the pattern and am still coming up to a large 22 in circumference, not a clue why, but your tutorial is informative
Beautiful pattern! Just really hoping you can tell me the rough height of the hat that equates to the 52 rows before the decreases. I lost count and can’t figure out how to count the previous rows! Any help would be so appreciated:)
Thank you so much for the free pattern!!! This is the pattern that I picked. I just came across your channel this past week. Your work is very beautiful!!! Hope you have a wonderful New Years!!
Oh my gosh I just tried 4 rows and realised I am somehow adding the stitch..... it looks so beautiful I want to make it but I don't know if ever succeed!
Can someone explain 4:42 and 12:03 to me. I don’t understand how you are doing the slip stitch. Is it normal slip stitch? I also don’t understand the alternative stitch
this is a new stitch to me and it will be my next project! so happy I found you on you tube, time to subscribe to see what else you got. Thanks you so much!
I love this hat...but I am having trouble. I don't understand where to move the stitch marker. I usually don't need one but my seam is crooked and awful. please help
What a beautiful creation! While fairly simple, I unfortunately have four failed attempts; and the first row working into the back loops nearly made me lose my mind lol I’m using the 3 weight yarn and size 4 hook as indicated and it’s huge! Sarah’s hats are usually too large for me, so I did 110 chains, then 100, then 90 and it’s still too large. Is anyone else having that issue? My stitches are nice and tight too, which baffles me how mine can be so different from the wonderful tutorial.
I’ve had to change hook and yarn is worsted. I also lost count on the rows although I’m thinking I’d be different anyways. Could you please advise about how many inches it is at row 52? Thanks so much. Such a cute hat!
Thank you.. Would you please explain.... How to continue making a bag on a thermal stitch bottom.. Cause I could not determine the stitches to start single crochet for the body of the bag..
I love the texture of this. But please, why is my hat just a circle? I’m not reducing and keep trying but it makes a flat circle. What am I doing wrong?
This is the pattern I have been looking for. I follow attaching the chain and the first row of single crochets. I can do the thermal stitch. However, the placing of the ending and attaching are somewhat confusing. I wish that when you end and begin a row, stretching those interchanges would be helpful. When I examine your finished product, rows end and begin in a straight seam. Mine does not. HELP!
I started thermal stitch with flat potholders. I had trouble figuring out where to start each row. I found myself increasing and decreasing. I found using stitch markers helped a lot, especially at the start and end of each row. And counting relentlessly. What I don't like here is1) it's not clear how you join rows. Do you slip stitch into one loop? 2 loops? Or the 1 loop of current row and 1 loop of prior row? 2) why painstakingly go through decreases 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and then skip where it becomes confusing?!!!
Sarah, I love your hats. I've made the 4 patterns from October 2021 (Winterberry, Mountain Ridge, Prairie and Grand Canyon beanies). I've given two of them away and the other two are already spoken for. I'd like to make this one for myself. I'm wondering where you purchased that BIG pompom? I'd like to get one for my hat. Right now, I only have the small ones. Thank you for this video, all you patterns and the information on the poms.
BTW I've seen this stitch in a blanket with a different color yarn on each side ( i.e. black on one side and white on the other side). Do you know how to do the stitch like that?

I have had to change how many chains I made at the start as 120 was way to long. I am hoping someone has worked out hold long it needs to befor the decrease rounds start

Wow! Where have you been all my life! I've never heard of using the back bump when you join in the round now that is brilliant! Hurray!
