      Thank you. I learned because I grew up poor and didn't have the money to pay someone to fix it. You either fix it yourself or you do without. Plus - it comes with a sense of pride and accomplishment if you do things right.

    This is the best video I've seen on this by far. However, glosses over two thinks;
    1) NO way to remove air solenoid if air bag inflated - a-holes put the solenoid clip on top of solenoid on top on metal shelf - zero access. You must destroy airbag and remove that first. No biggie as theyd be discarded anyway. UNLESS you can release air from the compressor end. Thats a pain (mine is under air filter box), and doesnt always work. Video online demonstates on newer (2000s model), but that didnt work on my 97 Cartier.
    2) Shock is virtually impossible to remove with "normal" tools (auto parts store or Home Depot). Host says 7/8 (for upper) - mine is 9/16, ish. Because of weld ridges, no way to set wrench correctly, and even using his undercar demo, damned mounting screw is way too far in from metal shelf edge with the limited acces (exhaust, fuel tank, etc). It might be possible with extra long wrench, but thats special order and you have to have exact nut size :(. It mught also be easier if on a lift rather than floor jack. And, that doesnt even deal with mounting the new shock.
    In my case, i replaced with spring but paid mechanic to do the shocks.
    But, as i said, this is the best overall video ive found. Damned engineers should have to repair what they design. I came up with 3 ways to fix the solenoid issue and 7 for shock replacement, without altering frame, body or accessory design negatively. Phooey

    I have a 2001 Grand Marquis LS and I swapped out the air springs for coil springs. I got a spring compressor tool and compressed them from 18" to 14" and install them. No removing sway bar or shocks. Fits great. complete job to me 1 hour

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  2 года назад

      Hi Paul - great.
      Most people don't have spring compressors so I wanted to let them know they can still do this. As you see in the video, I just used a jack and jacked the axle down. It works fine if you set it up right.

    • @JohnDisque

      Did you change the shocks, Victor? Your old shocks are meant to work with the old air-bags. - If you put coil-springs in..., I highly recommend using the shocks meant to work with the coils.. They're not high in price... but they can be a pain to take off and put on.

    1997 Lincoln town car took the air ride out put the taxi rear springs which are better then the ones you get in a conversion kit then I put coil over shocks in made by monroe they are for a crown vic but they fit perfectly on the town car the shocks in those kits are not good enough that's why I went with the coil over shocks height is perfect and it rides and handles like the air bags.

    Would you recommend buying a 97 town car only problem it has needs air compressor. Not sure how much that’ll be. But seems like it’s a small issue. Other wise car seems fine. 159K for $1700 97’

    • @JohnDisque

      Absolutely - get it. This 92 is by far the most dependable car I ever owned. Some things can be a drag to fix... like the starter.... It's in a moronic place and is quite expensive... Other than that a few other miner things.. it's always there when I need it and people comment on it all the time.
      Get it.

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  Год назад +3

      This is explained in the video. It's because the compressor was also bad and the air lines were dry-rotted. The whole system would need to be replaced and now you're getting into serious money. There's no rich daddy wiping thine buttocks and my normal cost of living is higher than normal.
      Peace and thanks for your time.

      These cars were made with both air and spring, they ride beautifully with coils. I'd recommend changing them. It was stupid to only put air in the rear.

    • @Oops-IMeantToDoThat
      @Oops-IMeantToDoThat Месяц назад

      They do ride differently, but not badly. Air recoil is a but mushier than spring, but still luxury. The big difference is if you're used to hauling heavy crap in trunk, or overweight in rear seat. Air will compensate some, springs won't. And I mean 300-400 on one side in back seat, or 300+ in trunk.

      You're right.
      Videos are getting faster and faster because the human attention span is dropping more and more. I don't think it's healthy to cater to what I see as a problem.
      It's kind of hypocritical to suggest people take their time and then rush through a video half-assing and skipping vital information.
      This job is an experience so the agenda is to show what the experience is like so the viewer can see if he/she wants to live it.
