Beetlejuice is back! Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s award-winning Beetlejuice.
Keaton returns to his iconic role alongside Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Little Women) as Lydia Deetz and two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt$ Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas) as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix films), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his feature film debut, with Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things, At Eternity’s Gate).
Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
Burton, a genre unto himself, directs from a screenplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Wednesday), story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO® Batman Movie), based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson. Michael Keaton hasn't played Beetlejuice in like 30 years and yet the moment he comes back to play the role for the sequel, it felt like it was just yesterday that he finished playing Beetlejuice for the first movie. What a legend he is, so blessed to live in the same time as he does 🙌

@@Werewolf_Korra After reading the lore a bit, apparently the "recently deceased" have to be contained to some general location for 124ish years before they'll be unrestricted....somehow, for some reason.... which means they had been dead for 30some years so that can't be it, unless they were accidentally exercised or they're in the "neitherworld" which is where the office area is along with whateverthehellelse is there because.... presumably beetlejuice had never actually been human as referenced in the movie and the cartoon there are creatures that live among the dead... just confusing AF lol.
So I guess it's logical maybe they're taking a really long vacation or something, maybe they got some.... form of jobs, which pay off..... somehow.

If I wasn't somehow already sold on how flawlessly Michael Keaton slipped back into character or how they managed to get the original cast back, having Willem Dafoe on the castlist is the perfect bow on the gift to this generation.

Who do you think is going to be more over the top? I know Willem Dafoe is one of the best ham actors for villains and madmen (just because he's mad doesn't mean he's the villain) but Michael Keaton stole the show in the first movie.

The most impressive thing about this trailer is that it didn't show every part of the movie, just gave the basic plot of Lydia needing Beetlejuice's help to save her daughter from the ghost realm and a bunch of zany hijinks and easter eggs for fans of the original. We don't know how or why she was taken, whether Beetlejuice will keep his word, or even who the actual villain is. They literally just showed enough to get me into the theatre and hyped for it :)

I feel the same way. I was initially surprised by the fact that Lydia's husband and daughter actually start of as skeptics about ghosts despite the apparent celebrity status Lydia has. I also feel like Astrid is going to be a bit disliked at the beginning but will essentially come around by the end of the film. Can't wait to see how all that unfolds.
And having beatle juice be more active as well its gonna be awesome have a feeling Lydia's daughter tried bringing Grandpa back

Theres some things about Astrid that aren't shown in the trailers we've seen, but there was more shown at CinemaCon. I'll leave it at that.
That said I have a feeling Astrid was likely trying to contact her dad and accidentally gets sucked into the afterlife. She is apparently really struggling with his death and wants desperately to contact him.

According to some test screeners the film really is mostly about Lydia and Astrid. They are basically the main driving force of the plot. It seems Jenna took a lower billing position so as to let the main stars of the original take top billing despite her having more screen time.
Speaking of screen time. In a interview with Empire, Keaton also revealed that while Beetlejuice gets more he's not getting as much as you might think. He and Tim made a conscious decision to not overuse him because it would in his words "ruin the film if they did". Keaton said he's best used sparingly because too much would ruin his charm and could become annoying.
This is the first time, IN YEARS, that i have actually been excited for a movie to come out.
Hollywood needs to realize that people will go to theaters when they make movies we actually want to see.
Same the original is one of my all time favorite movies and I’ve even seen it on broadway.
I think the reason we're excited to see this movie is because the actors are clearly happy to be there and the same talent is working behind the scenes to recapture the offbeat humor and irreverent joy the original inspired. If they had the wrong people working on it, or actors that were only in it for a quick paycheck, it would just be another soulless cash grab. So far this looks like a sequel done right.

Michael Keaton being 72 now and looking like himself at 40ish is INSANE… I know Makeup is most of it, but even his energy and body movement and voice, which also changes with age, I mean, unless they’re using some really crazy CGI stuff which I don’t think they are with him, he looks amazing

It feels like they’re trying to walk the line between the tone of the original movie and the cartoon series, sort of like what Ghostbusters 2 attempted. I hope this does better (even though I like GB2).

I was obsessed with Beetlejuice, Nightmare before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands (basically anything Tim Burton) when I was a kid. I watched Beetlejuice & NBC almost religiously, especially the Beetlejuice cartoon. I'm freaking ecstatic that we're getting another Beetlejuice & that we have quite a few of the original cast back to play their iconic roles! I can't wait to see how they explain Barbara & Adam's absence.

It’s like Beetlejuice and Lydia have to team up again like they use to do in the animated series, but in the live action world they haven’t seen each other in decades and have to really team up for the first time. Best of both worlds and I love it.

BJ from the cartoon is still gross, but not evil like the film counterpart. Beetlejuice on the musical is also toned down in the evil department and more mischievous than anything, and trying to stand up against momma.

Michael Keaton was cheated out of his return as Batman in a few movies. But I'm so extremely grateful we got the bit we fid in the Flash Movie. But to see him full fletcher as one of the most endearing characters, like if this was released years ago, is just amazing to see. The minute he pops up, it's Beetlejuice as I remember him. Thank God they didn't even think about recasting. I'm so gitty about this movie, even at my age. I can't wait.

Michael Keaton has an amazing range of who/what he plays. Many actors play a “type.” He plays normal to off-the-wall to what-is-he-doing and perfectly nails everything. I can’t wait to see this.

Beetlejuice making puns and dressing up as a train conductor and marriage counselor reminds me of the Beetlejuice cartoon.
It also looks like he'll be a good guy in this movie, just like the cartoon.

Keaton is a great actor, but honestly I still have reservations. Beetlejuice is immortal and Michel is not. He's visibly older and less energetic... at least from this trailer. I think he can still pull it off and who knows, maybe it will be great. If it was me doing the casting, I'd probably go for younger blood.
Ryder and Keaton look amazing. It's good to see them in these roles again. Looks like this movie is gonna be excellent.

Pretty much all I see is CGI. Spilling guts, dude reattaching his head and Sandworm (this one is like 2010 school project animation) look extremely fake. I hope it doesn't break the immersion, cause I want a good Bettlejuice movie.

Everyone this is how it's done! Not a remake we didn't ask for with different actors telling the same story. But instead, we get a brand-new story with the same actors we love. Not trying to make them "eternally young". But moving them forward in life. Brilliant brilliant briilant! This is a movie I can get behind. Will be going to see it opening night! Well done! Finally, Hollywood gets something right!
