I love this movie so much and am very hyped for its squeal! Edit: The scene when Barba and Adam come back to their house and it's been three months. This is why when someone passes away especially in the home even though that wasn't the case for them, Clocks were stopped at the time of death. This was to let the deceased's spirit know that time has officially stopped for them since time is not linear on the other side. Sadly this practice along with others such as covering all reflective surfaces, hanging a black wreath on the front door, and opening the windows when someone passes away. are no longer used. Edit 2: If you look up wedding tradition, the colors of the dress have a meaning. Marring in red means you wish yourself dead.
The clock stopping thing is real. One day my grandma's watch suddenly stopped, dead battery she assumed. She later found out that it had stopped around the time my uncle, her son, passed away.

Like how he makes a Hazbin Hotel reference, fun fact the voice actor for Sir Pentious and Adam (Alex Brightman) played as Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice the Musical (he also voices Fizzaroli in Helluva Boss)
The Maitland's deaths were subtly foreshadowed if you looked carefully at the rear bumper on their car. They have a bumper sticker that says, "I brake for animals". Braking for the dog was what ultimately got them killed.
13:22 I always loved that shot, with only Davis freaking out and Baldwin just taking a gasp while CLEARLY not watching in the same direction, only years later I realized it was most likely a composite shot, and they were reacting to a cue backstage and did not see whatever FX fuckery was going around in front of Keaton's face
My head cannon for the (film) Maitlands is they actually tried to have a baby and either couldn't conceive or lost the pregnancy. It's all in the subtext on Geena Davis' face in that ONE moment when Barbara's cousin (Jane the Realitor?) is telling them they shouldn't live there because the house was "too big for them." While Baldwin really disliked the role (can't blame him because people mix him up with barry bostwick from RHPS to this day), Davis is acting with her whole freaking face in every frame she's in.
@@thebeebz9511 That was my thought too when I rewatched this. I thought maybe it was more evident that it was a miscarriage in an earlier draft or something.
Omg, he really does look like Barry Bostwick in this movie! No wonder it was a small shock every time I was reminded that Alec Baldwin was even in this movie.
That's not head cannon, that was certainly all intentional. There was a time when movies didn't need to explicitly explain everything and they could show information with out telling you.

A lot of the behind-the-scenes info about this movie is really interesting - some of the original Michael McDowell scripts were a lot darker and straight-up horror instead of a horror-comedy (and Beetlejuice was originally written to be a demon instead of a super powerful ghost - something cool they brought back for the musical version)! ^^
I meant to comment right when this episode come out. I lost my wife earlier this year and Beetlejuice was one of her favorite movies and it is my daughter's as well and I watched it with my daughter after my wife died. Fun fact, last year during production on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in Vermont someone snuck onto set and somehow managed to steal the 150 pound Delia Deetz sculpture and a decorated lamp post. The mystery remains unsolved to this day.
"Thelma and Louis-a al-Gaib" is the funniest reference since James managed to drop the word milquetoast during an actual milk toast in the count for some random movie. Well done!
If you know anybody born in the late 80s who makes A LOT of puns/dad jokes, you can probably blame the Beetleguise cartoon that ran on Nick. They might not even remember watching it but if you pull clips from the show, those puns are painfully on the nose...and I kinda love it.
I just rewatched this one last night and my God, it holds up so wonderfully. My brother and I practically had this movie on repeat by the time we were old enough to watch it, so I really shouldn't still enjoy it this much. But it's just that kind of lightning in a bottle that only old school Tim Burton could deliver.
There's actually a third Harry Belafonte song. It's "Man Smart, Woman Smarter." It plays on the radio when they're doing their morning routine. Edit: I just realized there is a fourth Harry Belafonte song, "Sweetheart From Venezuela," that plays in the beginning. So this soundtrack is half Danny Elfman and half Harry Belafonte
I'm so use to listening to the musical I sometimes forget that in the film you have to say his name 3 times even if there are breaks or words in between to summon him. In the musical they make it so you have to say his name 3 times in a row unbroken so they can do bits with Lydia teasing BJ by pretending to summon him then backing out after 2 only to do it when she promised she was for real this time
Fun Fact: Alex Brightman who plays Beetlejuice in the Broadway shows plays Sir Pentious and Adam in Hazbin Hotel as well as Fizzaroli in Hazbin's sister series Helluva Boss with Adam's maskless design being based on him.
I truly couldn't believe that Adam and Barbara were the only kills in the movie. So glad this film qualified for a Kill Count! Also, super excited for the VHS Kill Count and its unique format! I think its gonna be an all-timer!

That reference to “The Beach that makes you Old” absolutely floored me! I already found the initial joke from that Kill Count hilarious, but hearing it carry on here is just insane and so good.
Best description of this movie. It's about a pair of dead people being haunted by living people
I love this movie so much and am very hyped for its squeal!

SWEET!
I’ve watched this movie like. At least a dozen times and I never realized the real estate agent was Barbra’s cousin?! This is just one of the myriad reasons why I love Kill Counts
Born in 2000, this was on 24/7 as a child. Love it, how it adapts the dead is peak… The moving on Family, Beetlejuice himself !!!! Just love it
Like how he makes a Hazbin Hotel reference, fun fact the voice actor for Sir Pentious and Adam (Alex Brightman) played as Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice the Musical (he also voices Fizzaroli in Helluva Boss)
And the voice of Rosie, Leslie Kritzer, was Delia and Miss Argentina! That show is a veritable treasure trove of theatre actors!
Alex brightman is just a national treasure
Ooo
That's how Burton writes out Adam and Barbara from the sequel. The other Adam got them.
@@AlexHarrison-zv4jj haha ya they just take a vacation to hell right when the exterminations happen
The Hazbin Hotel joke is 10x funnier when you know some of the characters were voiced by Alex Brightman, who was the Broadway Beetlejuice.
I never noticed this, but now I can't unsee it.
i think Beetlejuice is a perfect example of a character that's really fun as a fictional person, but would likely be hated as a real being
A hazbin hotel AND gravity falls reference in one kill count? Oh James you spoil us!
My cartoon-loving heart remains pleased
Geena Davis?
That's not head cannon, that was certainly all intentional. There was a time when movies didn't need to explicitly explain everything and they could show information with out telling you.
Geena?

A lot of the behind-the-scenes info about this movie is really interesting - some of the original Michael McDowell scripts were a lot darker and straight-up horror instead of a horror-comedy (and Beetlejuice was originally written to be a demon instead of a super powerful ghost - something cool they brought back for the musical version)! ^^
I meant to comment right when this episode come out. I lost my wife earlier this year and Beetlejuice was one of her favorite movies and it is my daughter's as well and I watched it with my daughter after my wife died. She passed away unexpectedly in July and I so would have loved for her to have seen this episode. This was a pleasant surprise as was The Terminator kill count! Love this channel!

Well done!
"Riding in on a sandworm like Thelma and Louise-an Al Gaib" is one of the craziest and most clever lines I have ever heard lol
If you know anybody born in the late 80s who makes A LOT of puns/dad jokes, you can probably blame the Beetleguise cartoon that ran on Nick. They might not even remember watching it but if you pull clips from the show, those puns are painfully on the nose...and I kinda love it.
Yeah Beetlejuice ran on Nick around 91-94 then Cartoon Network picked it up from 94-early 98, those were some good years.
In the musical they make it so you have to say his name 3 times in a row unbroken so they can do bits with Lydia teasing BJ by pretending to summon him then backing out after 2 only to do it when she promised she was for real this time
The musical is so iconic
17:42 the hazbin hotel shoutout and the fact that the show, I have watched since the original pilot, has made it so mainstream is beyond me.
I don’t know if the sequel will be good or not, but gosh dang I’m excited to have the opportunity to watch a new Beetlejuice movie in the theater.
Seeing James yell "MEUNDIES?! MEUNDIES???" in a helllike area is not something i thought I'd see.

11:34 That jumpscared me for a moment and for another moment, I laughed at James' Beetlejuice's BUSINESS costume
This movie has a special spot in my heart mostly because of the musical. Not only did I see it live last year but I also got a picture autographed by Alex Brightman from my theater teacher as a graduation gift. I can even do a decent impression of Alex Brightman's Beetlejuice.
Beetlejuice just became playable on Multiversus today. What great timing
