Hi Simon - make sure you check out my update video if you are going to do these mods. I go over a few corrections to my roof fix + provide some additional info on the lowering mod. ruclips.net/video/Gk7j9mC527U/видео.html
Literally two days ago I have purchased this beauty. This video just appeared on my feed. For once am glad that Google AI, which spy on us all, predicted this lol. Instructions downloaded cheers
Excellent! I'm happy to hear that Google's AI is working for good and not for evil! : ) Enjoy your build David. BTW per my comment in the description of the video: in step 4 of the lowering instructions by RB-instructions I recommend doubling up on the sub-assemblies that attach to the frame of the model for the front wheels (on each side of the model). This is so that the 3L Technic axles that compresses the suspension (step 5) are supported at both ends, not just from the front side.
was doubting the model and was sitting in the shopping cart and coulnd decide to buy it.. but wow these fixes sold the model to me and instant bought it! Thank you!
That's great news Robert! It's a superb model and I think you'll be very happy with it. Please make sure you check out my update video for these mods though before you do them - I provide some corrections to my roof fix + go over the lowering mod in a bit more detail in that video. Enjoy!
Happy New Year. I have now lowered my Porsche 42096, at the back as shown in the link, at the front I have doubled the support on each side, a total of 4x. a 4L axis is used for this. now the suspension is supported 1x before and 1x after the spring mount on the frame and has received more stability. I took the bricks I needed from my inventory. I also implemented the roof with the tapering of the A-pillar, but put 2x half pins (black) into the lift arm so that the soft axles experience better holding power. Thank you for the great inspiration. Greetings from Germany.
Happy New Year to you Michael! YES! Those are all the correct changes including using 2x 4L axles at the front. I have almost finished editing an update video that explains this set of modifications better and goes through some additional steps for the roof fix. I'm glad to hear you updated your model!
I just bought this model for my son and currently building it for him, awesome find on these mods, i have tons of MOC bricks, so i deff be modding this RSR to race spec!!!!
@@crackoida9938 lol he builds a lot of his sets i buy him but this one he wanted me to build. I don't mind. Hes busy building his starwars sets he got for xmas. Win win.
Sounds good Cfox2000 - please watched my updated video though before you do buy the parts and do the mods. There's additional info about both the lowering mod & my roof fix covered in that video!
To remove the gap from step 467 just leave the white block out not the white No.1. Dont need to buy pieces. I did it for mine and it still looks good, you just need to find the right angle for the white No.1. Hope this helps
Hi Josiah, thanks for sharing. Yes this has been commented on by a few people. The reason I didn't do it that way is that if done this way the end of the Black 2L pin with bush sticks out of the Technic beam and is visible from the roof when looking the model from front/top. You could of course cover it up with the 1L round beam you removed - but this is fiddly to do if you are doing this mod after building the model. Anyway, all good, and I'm glad to hear you found an alternate solution and that you are happy with your model!
Thank you Hafijur. Welcome to the hobby and the community! If you build the Porsche RSR, and later on want to do the mods, please watch my update video instead of the original video. I go into additional detail on the mods + clear up some of the steps required for the roof mod.
Hi there, you can actually kind-of do the roof mod without really needing additional parts. And as for lowering the model - have a look at the Rebrickable page that I linked to in the description of the video for this mod. On the Inventory tab you can see the list of parts you will need. I think you will need to source some additional parts from BrickLink or from your other spares or sets. There are only a small number of parts required that are very common, so that's good news. All the best with it!
Excellent! I think the two mods that I've covered in the video make the most difference to the standard model. There's more that could be done, but it depends on how far you want to go down the mod rabbit hole. : )
You can also do a fix on those round headlights, front part of those can go under the bumper structure. It looks better imho closer to the real thing. Subbed, we need more channels focusing on these little fixes.
@@CraftedBricks np, sorry for the late reply. There is a thread at eurobricks.com forum, for 42096 mods and improvements. Check here: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/169355-42096-porsche-911-rsr-mods-and-improvements/&page=2
Hi Passiegames Original - please make sure you check out my update video for these mods. I go into more detail about the lowering mod + correct my mod for the roof section. Enjoy your build!!!
I've just done the roof mod without extra parts. In your video the roof is already different from the standard model. I put the black flex axles (that make up the A-pillar of the car) in the top of the windowbar with the Porsche logo (like in your video) and removed the black 'knee-joint' thingy's from step 466. I then put the white 'technic connectors' from stept 467 in the place of those knee-joints and got rid of the small red axle from step 467.
Hi Rick - In my 'update' video for this series of mods I go over the roof fixes again to correct any comments or concerns. And yes you can approach the roof fix differently - well done! I think one of the things that is so fun about modding Lego sets is that there are always multiple ways to solve a problem. All the best to you! Cheers, Simon
Hi Hamza, everything you need to know to lower the set is in the instructions that I link to. And I go over what you need to do for my fix to the roof in more detail in my update video (check it out on my channel)! I hope this helps.
4:10 is not the standard version, there's already a change at the black windshield frame wich is not explained in your video. It's like youre missing building step 466, i think that's the reason why there's such a big gap in the front 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Jonas! Did you check out my Update video? I go over all of the steps to fix the roof gap in more detail; yes I missed a few steps in the original video which is why I published an update to clarify everything. There's definitely a large and very odd gap on either side of the roof in the stock version of the model - have a look at your set and also check out the stock Lego photos of the model that I show in the update video.
Hi I have a problem I have assembled everything great, but when I spin the rear wheels one spins forward and the other spins so rearward and it is impossible to drive
This sounds like it is a problem with your differential. When you lift the model up off the ground and rotate one wheel, the other will rotate in a counter direction, that is normal. But when both are in contact with the ground and driving the differential should allow you to move the car forwards or backwards with no problem. I can't really help as I can't physically see your model, but I hope this has given you an idea on what to look at.
@@CraftedBricks Just when I put the car on the ground and try to move it forward or backward the rear axle locks up :( and I can't go farther than a few centimeters, so I guess you are right the problem is with the differential but what could I have broken if the differential folds on the first page of the manual yes? can it be fixed somehow without disassembling
I can't recall as I'm at work and don't have access to my model, but you can/should be able to see the differential when you flip the car upside down. Check the small tan gears (there are 3 of them) are able to rotate. Also you could have an issue with the parts for the engine, perhaps that is seizing up and causing things to lock-up. I appreciate this must be frustrating! It happens to all of us from time to time with Technic builds. I've had to almost fully dismantle a model in the past due to making a small gear positioning mistake in a gear-box assembly for one of the larger cars. Good luck with it.
Damn, I wish I'd found this video before, I really loved this piece at the first sight, but after I finished assembly was quite dissapointed with so many gaps and weirdly high from the groud. Thank you so much!
Im a huge Porsche fan and also a lego fan. I bought the 911 GT3 RS which lines up proportional well with my real life car, but what I noticed with this technic set is the wheel base is to short throws the whole model out of proportion i wish lego kept the proportions on point like the earlier model.
I know what you mean David. Still I think for this smaller scale and cheaper set it's still a good looking model. I'm going to building the 911 GT3 RS soon, I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks Ilias! ...I'm working on new content and the channel will grow in time. I just want to get better at making videos and show you guys plenty of cool custom MOCs, set mods and cover interesting Lego topics that are for Lego enthusiasts like us!
Blue pins are one of Lego Technics signature, these sets aren’t meant to be clean replicas there meant to be a representation of the car model done by technic components
I'm glad you like it Ronny. If you are going to do these mods yourself please checkout my update video! I cover-off some additional steps for the roof mod and explain the lowering mod in more detail.
@CraftedBricks , thanks for this vid.. I finally just decided to build this set during the holiday!! Quick question for you!! Does the MOD only impact the front suspension to compress it in fixed state? in After state looks like the rear suspension is lower as well but in the instructions, looks like only front suspension is modded. Any clarification you can provide? Thanks much!! Thanks for these 2 vids you made.. looks awesome!!
No problem at all and I'm glad you not only liked the videos but that you've decided to build and lower this set. It's looks really good in its lowered stance. The instructions (not by me) cover compressing the springs on both the front and rear axle. May be as you haven't built the model yet the instructions from the modder who published this seemed unfamiliar. It'll make sense when you get to the build. All the best!
Thanks for prompt reply @CraftedBricks! Looking at the mod instructions I only see mod to front suspension. Is rear suspension same type of mod with same pieces as front? Thank you!!
@@alexlude.gt4rs - so I do appreciate it is a little difficult as the instructions were produced by a German modder and don't contain 'instruction' text. In the PDF you downloaded from his site. Page 2 shows the parts to compress the axles for the rear of the model. Pages 3, 4 and 5 show the mod to compress the front axles. Remember to look also at my comments in the Description of the update video regarding parts required and doubling up on the front axle supports.
Hi Steven, RacingBrick (also checkout his RUclips channel) has made instructions on how to motorise this model, you can purchase them here: rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-23683/RacingBrick/technic-42096-porsche-911-rsr-rc-mod-with-power-functions/#details
Thank you Jang! This is an older video of mine and I think I speak too slowly in it. I have become better at presentation to camera over the last year with practice! Take care, cheers, Simon
Ik this was 2 years ago but Master Lego builders have to take some information from the community to fix up the final builds so that they could be even better then ever
Hi, I just finished building this set and for some reason, the rear differential does not work even though everything is built correctly. When I spin one tyre on the rear the other does not spin?
Hi OrbitaL - that behaviour sounds right. I.e. you should be able to rotate one wheel independently of the other or at a different speed to rotate the drive shaft. That's the beauty of an automotive differential demonstrated right there!
@OrbitaL If there was no differential and the two wheels were connected by an axle, then yes both wheels would turn if you lifted the vehicle up and just turned one wheel. A Differential allows both wheels to turn at different rates independently of each other, even to the point of one wheel turning and the other not at all. All Technic vehicle models with a differential will do exactly what you describe. The real test is actually the other way around, if you turn the drive shaft both wheels should turn. There are a few videos on how automotive differentials work on RUclips, look them up, it's always good to learn how these sort of things work and why they were invented!
Thanks - I go over the fixes in more detail in my update video, make sure you check that out. There's also a link in the description of that video to a Eurobricks forum thread - there are lots of ideas on how to improve and mod the headlights - I think you'll like it!
I've just finished it, but I am not happy with doors. They just do not close tightly and they are not fixed when closed. Is there any fix for that? I thought about some sort of magnets, but it's a not-lego-hack
Hi puvN - I've not modified this model further and made that video a long time back! There is a link in the description to a Eurobricks forum where people have posted other mods for this set. I 'd recommend you check that out - maybe you can find something for the doors to your liking.
Thank you very much for this great video, I slimmed down the sidelines, great, now I'm waiting for the video to lower the 911. Happy New Year, grettings from Germany 🤘🏻😇😈🇩🇪
Nice video...one thing about the stance of the car...it seems like the front wheels aren't in the center of the wheel arch... maybe it's my imagination but it looks that way, and yes!! Buy this set ...it's great, you can't stop looking at it
Hi Cloude, that's easy! The Porsche RSR for sure. It looks great, especially when lowered. I still love mine. I've seen lots of reviews of the Ferrari 488 and Lego dropped the ball with that set. It's poorly designed, has way too many stickers and doesn't look that good (other's opinions may differ though). I'm not buying that set. If you really want a set that is going to put a smile on your face though - it's the 1:8 scale Porsche GT3 RS. (I did a video on it). I'm also working on the Bugatti at the moment, and it is going to be Epic! Lego has done a superb job with these 1:8 scale Technic super car sets.
Unpopular mod: I’ve removed the stickers on the rsr 488 and Senna and it looks miles better (not all the stickers just the sponsorship stickers) makes the models look way cooler
Haha! What a great mod Bernard. I actually like the stickers on the RSR and think they make the model look very good. But the 60 stickers required for the Ferrari 488 are putting me off from buying the set at all!
No problem Daniel. But make sure you check out my update video on these mods! I go over the lowering mod in a bit more detail and there are a few extra steps for my roof mod. 🙂
I did a quick Google search and it seems like it may be possible to fit the Porsche GT3 RS wheels onto this RSR model, but I've not tried so I can't give you a complete answer. Do a similar search and see what you come up with. This mod thread for this model on Eurobricks may also be of help: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/169355-42096-porsche-911-rsr-mods-and-improvements/
Absolutely! I was thinking about doing the same lowering mod for that set when it becomes available. But on looking at some other Lego RUclipsrs who have done early reviews of the set like RacingBrick and Sariel, I'm not sure if I'm going to buy the set at all. 60 stickers! + no functions + it seems to be very flimsy and poorly designed which is a real shame.
Hi Dustin, unfortunately no, it would require a complete overhaul of the model and is probably not worth it for the effort needed. I'm happy with the two basic mods and I need time at the moment to focus on my Castle MOC + to shoot new content! : )
@@CraftedBricks prices on aliexpress are weird. I got 42171 mercedes w14 for like 15 usd and 42096 for same price with rc mod kit included In terms of quality issues - blacks on 42171 stickers are a bit greyish. No issues with damaged bricks at all - but lets be honest, 15 usd knockoff vs 200 usd for official. It is worth even for parts.
@@karoljankowski9584 - interesting perspective! I think the quality of the ultra cheap Chinese knock-off Lego sets isn't even worth the $15 usd. I'd rather pay more and have a high quality set in my home versus bad plastic. BUT that is just my option, for you and others the knockoff's are a steal and worth it!
Hi Bill - check out the comments - there's a link to a Eurobricks forum topic (also in the description of my update video) that will give you several ideas on how to fix the headlights.
i think it's the same designer as the Ferrari 488 GTE (#42125) because i had the same height problem with the Ferrari and if i watch this video it's because i built the Porsche 911 RSR (#42096) and it's in "baja" height position (ready to endure the desert) The ford GT looks flat so i think there's a modification for this one too there's another problem : there's no twin wheels on lego trucks (i'm truck driver and there's 4 wheel on each rear axle : 2 on each side, ok wide wheels exist but the wheels on lego trucks are the same width at the front and at the back so, it doesn't work)
Thanks for sharing. You definitely sound like someone who would love building custom Lego models versus sticking to standard sets. There are a lot of impressive Truck models and builds on Rebrickable, perhaps some of interest? rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=truck&page=9&sets_page_size=50&sort_sets_by=4&sort_sets_dir=D
Hi Marjorie - I'm not sure what you are asking? If you are looking for more modifications for this set - try searching on Eurobricks or Rebrickable. Both those sites will have options.
Late bloomer here lol...and I plan on purchasing this set soon esp. with the modifications youve provided. Only question I have is...Can you replace the blue technic connecting pins with black ones to make cosmetically better? I agree with the blue making it look a little more distinctive and unsightly. Just concerned if it would make assembly harder to follow?
Hi Albert! This is definitely a great set to purchase, you will not be disappointed (aside from having to place 52 stickers!). If you are going to do these mods please watch my 'update' video on these mods, I go over some corrections to my changes to the roof and explain the lowering mod in more detail. Yes you can replace most of the 3L blue pins with corresponding black pins, however some of the visible blue pins are the shorter 2L pins with a cross axle, they only come in blue, so you won't be able to fully replace all of the pins. I hope this helps! Cheers, Simon
Hi Clark! I wish I could help you but obviously with me not being physically able to see your set I have no idea what's wrong. The best thing you can do is to carefully take the set apart bit by bit, checking the instructions to see where you may have made a mistake. Usually this sort of thing happens when some parts have been attached at the wrong position. I hope you get this fixed!
I've improved on some things aswell! Did the following mods according to he video, and recycled some of the left over bricks doing so. Door handles are very out of place imo, completely ripped those out, and used the two White 1L Connector Ring's that were removed from the roofline, for two much sleeker door handles. Then I've used those two white previous door handle White Wedge thingies, to simply fill out the gaps between the rods and the physical front hood, on the very outer ends. Great video!
Thanks Jason - I like the sound of your additional mods. It's always inspiring to hear how people take the initiative and customise their model even further! (Note I hope you watched my 'update' video? The roof mod is explained more clearly in that video, with some additional steps outlined.)
Hi Jun, the Speed Champions line of models is superb - great for car enthusiasts that's for sure! As for me I typically only build large sets or custom Lego models these days so I don't own any of the Speed Champion sets.
Hi Audi RS - I've got an update video coming out soon for these mods. But you'll still need to download the instructions from Rebrickable (link in the video description) to see how to lower the set.
Hi Ter8314, yep you can definitely do that if you like! There's a reason for my approach, check out my explanation further down in the comments to CJWarr3n. He had the same comment/thought. Cheers, Simon
No problem JUbinabricks U, I'm working on an update video today and I'll have it out later this week, there's some extra information I think is needed about these mods going off all the comments and questions here!
@@goldenplectrum9695 - do you mean motorising it? If so definitely not. If you mean the LED lighting kit, it depends on how you display your models. If you display them in a case then I'd say not worth it as you'll likely never turn the lights on. If you regularly touch and or move or admire your models then lighting them up can be worth it. 🙂
Hi ForburyLion - check out the link in the description of the update video I did for these mods for the RSR. There's a link there to a Eurobricks forum post that has lots of info about possible headlight mods.
Great video! Love it! Thanks for the tips! I also would have seen that the studs are in the colour of the car. So that the blue ones had to been black and some white. I think that would have made the car even better!
Hi Marcel, thank you and you are welcome! ...regarding replacing many of the blue pins with black or white pins it is possible, but could be very expensive to do! Lego only produced parts 43093 (2L pin with an axle) in a handful of sets in white or black. And part 6558 (3L pin) is available in black but was only made for one set in white. So as you can imagine given their scarcity the cost for those parts on BrickLink in those colors is crazy! I agree with you though if Lego had have used black and white pins for this model it would have made the model much better and given it a cleaner look.
Concerning the adjustment made to the flex-axle on the roof, couldn't one have simply take the 1x1 beam and place it "behind" the beam the connector plugs in to ? Which would bring it one stud closer ? I don't remember the part names, please excuse the terrible explanation.
Heya Nathan, yes you could do that; you are talking about the 1x1 white beam, part #18654. One of the reasons I went with my option to use a different pin to shift the angle elements, that the flex axles thread through, in one stud is that it is very easy to do the change that way after the model has already been assembled. Your suggestion would also work but would be more fiddly to do, but I like it that you would not need any additional parts! Well spotted!
Hi there, the lowering mod works by compressing the suspension to lower the vehicle, so unfortunately no it won't bounce up and down post the mod. But as this is a display model, and it looks 100% better lowered, it's worth it!
Hi Space Dragon - Good question, I mentioned this in one of the other comment replies: lowering mod works by compressing the suspension to lower the vehicle, so unfortunately no it won't bounce up and down post the mod. But as this is a display model, and it looks 100% better lowered, it's worth it!
Hi Mauricio, check out page 3 in this forum topic - there's someone who's come up with a mod for the headlights that could work for you. www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/169355-42096-porsche-911-rsr-mods-and-improvements/
Even if you lower it, the side gap remains, the wheels are just too small for the car. But seems Lego doesnt have proper sized wheels for this scale of cars, unless you take the thicker wheels from like the F1 Ferrari, they got the same rim-size, but bigger tires. The steering will be kinda broken (get stuck), but at least it looks proper sized.
Hi Kill3rKueml, I don't own the Ducati set but there are a lot of mods for that set published on Rebrickable that you may be interested in, take a look here: rebrickable.com/search/?show_printed=on&include_accessory=1&q=ducati&search_type=all
very nice but on the real car the exhousts sits longer out to the sides and i fixed that too so there is actually three things you can fix with this car
Hi Malcom - RB-instructions seems to host his mod instructions on his own site. Sometimes he seems to take it down to do changes. If you are having issues I'd recommend trying again later or contacting him on Rebrickable.
Did you change the windscreen at all on the initial build? Because it looks a lot different than mine. The two black flex pieces actually connect above the Porsche banner to part that the roof panels are connected to, if that makes sense. I don't have a huge gap like yours did and I think it looks closer to the real thing. Having such a narrow roof would hinder driver entry and exit from the car. Just my two cents. I do like the lower stance though. Looks much more aggresive.
Kevin - you raise a good point my friend! I see. I modified the model quite a while back. I wonder if I release a short correction video for the windscreen?
@@CraftedBricks A short correction video may help. I might not be the only one doing double takes and trying to figure out why yours is different initally.
Hi Kevin - you may have seen my update video!? I do a shout-out to you, thank you for picking up that the roof changes needed more explanation + that I needed to cover off some additional steps. All is now clear in the new video! Cheers, Simon
Hi Mass, I can't really as I'm not sure what the issue is. Here's a direct link to the designers page with the parts list & instructions: www.magentacloud.de/share/z0budzgjou#$/ Note I have no control or ownership over the designers site or pages - it is great that he's provided these instructions free to download for everyone!
Hi Anthony, I explain my roof mods / fixes again in this video: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoGk7j9mC527U/edit ...and provide some extra information about the mods to answer commonly asked questions. This may help you. As for the lowering mod as I explain in the video its by a German MOC designer so that's why the link to the instructions goes to his site. You don't need to read the content of his site just select the bottom link to download the PDF. The instructions and mods are very simple. Super easy to do. Also if you open the link from Rebrickable in Google Chrome, select the 3 dots in the very top right hand corner, then from the menu select translate, then English, Google will translate the page for you. This may help. All the best!
Hi 2ndLastJedi - you can definitely still pick them up in Australia - try Target, Big W and Amazon (AU) online! + Lego themselves are still listing them!
Hi Steven, I'm getting the same issue (but it was fine yesterday when I checked for another YT member). The designer for the lowering mod (RB-instructions) hosts his instructions on a sever/location outside of Rebrickable. I sent him a message to let him know the link broken - let's hope he gets it back up soon!
Hi computercrack - in my update video, in the description there is a link to a Eurobricks forum thread on mods to this set. Check it out, there are several options people have come up with to update/improve the headlights. I think you'll like it.
It is a superb model and yes can take a while to build. With your steering issue double check your work against the instructions to see what the issue is. It can often be a small mistake early in the build that affects the model later on.
2 things Lego screwed up... At this rate they should hire some of the creators that fix these issues and also the ones that created the Koenigsegg, McLaren P1 and other amazings kits.
Yes for some sets it certainly it seems like the Lego designers take shortcuts or make unnecessary compromises. The Ferrari 488 in this scale is terrible! But the larger 1:8 scale super cars are superb, the Lego designers have done a great job with those.

#OMG 52 stickers!!! I ❤️ the building element of technic but get so 😡 w/ a passion the sticker element cos I’m so anal about attention to detail when being applied.
This model is a shocker for stickers. So if you are anal with regard to sticker placement and you want to build this model, I recommend you pick up a second sticker set from BrickLink for this RSR. That way you have a spare incase you botch any. It's what I did!
I too just built this and now feel compelled to do these urgently required modifications

Yes! The height was the first thing I noticed when I finished it. It really bothered me. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome!
I just bought this model for my son and currently building it for him, awesome find on these mods, i have tons of MOC bricks, so i deff be modding this RSR to race spec!!!!
I Would build it together with your son. He should learn it too so He can build it himself.
@@crackoida9938 lol he builds a lot of his sets i buy him but this one he wanted me to build. I don't mind. Hes busy building his starwars sets he got for xmas. Win win.
I noticed those things but never went ahead and changed but now that I have seen it... I am going to do it, Thanks!
I did my first Lego doing the McLaren GTR. It is so effing addictive and so fun. Definitely looking to get the Porsche next. Great video 👍
Thank you Hafijur. Welcome to the hobby and the community! If you build the Porsche RSR, and later on want to do the mods, please watch my update video instead of the original video. I go into additional detail on the mods + clear up some of the steps required for the roof mod.
@@CraftedBricks okay thanks for the reply. Certainly will be doing. You have a sub 👍
Sir,
Thank you so much for the tips. I just received my Legos set # 42096 from Amazon just 20 minutes ago and can't wait to start it.
Sounds good Stephen! Please make sure you watch my update video for these mods as I go over them in more detail. 🙂
is it possible to make the mods without buying new parts? i mean there are spare parts in the bag
Thanks!, really easy mod and the car looks awesome
No problem, and you right, it's such an easy mod, but makes a huge difference. The lowered model looks much better!
Great work mate! Harry and I are nearly finished building this model, the mods will be great to make this look even better!
Thanks for the sub Ricardo! Can you point to me to a forum page or site showing the headlight mod? I'd like to check it out!

Thanks, i am building it now (at step 38) so gonna need this in like 10 hours
Dude those were excellent mods to the car!
They are - I'm working on an update video to clarify a few things with these mods - stay tunned!
Can you please make a video on how the changes were made steps
Hi Hamza, everything you need to know to lower the set is in the instructions that I link to. And I go over what you need to do for my fix to the roof in more detail in my update video (check it out on my channel)! I hope this helps.
Thanks so much !!! Made my RSR looks much better now !
Great to hear!
Good luck with it.
i actually motorised the cylinders with a m motor (4x speed geared) so it has a running sound of some sort
thx for the fix
Damn, I wish I'd found this video before, I really loved this piece at the first sight, but after I finished assembly was quite dissapointed with so many gaps and weirdly high from the groud. Thank you so much!
You are welcome - I hope you get to modifying your set!
Definitely considering putting these mods on my model, thank you for sharing!
Really appreciate these mods. Thank you!

And also 100% change all the visible blue Pins to Black ones...thats always my Nr.1 fix
Such a poor decision on legos part... Why use BLUE when BLACK makes much more sense??
@@hotdogy12345 there are thousands of descisions which make 0 sense...I think Lego wants that everybody hates them
@@hotdogy12345 because it would cost so much more, the licence probably didnt have a big budget but lego cares about the profit, its a manifactureer
@@FG-vp6id so you're saying black pieces instead of blue pieces would cost more?
Blue pins are one of Lego Technics signature, these sets aren’t meant to be clean replicas there meant to be a representation of the car model done by technic components
fantastic mod, thank you for sharing!
Do you have any instructions to motorise this model please. There is a large amount of space in the chassis to add motors

@@CraftedBricks Hi, shouldn’t spinning one wheel also cause the other to spin on the other side ?
@OrbitaL If there was no differential and the two wheels were connected by an axle, then yes both wheels would turn if you lifted the vehicle up and just turned one wheel.
A Differential allows both wheels to turn at different rates independently of each other, even to the point of one wheel turning and the other not at all. All Technic vehicle models with a differential will do exactly what you describe. The real test is actually the other way around, if you turn the drive shaft both wheels should turn.
There are a few videos on how automotive differentials work on RUclips, look them up, it's always good to learn how these sort of things work and why they were invented!
Amazing job bro how about the headlight
Looks ugly how we can change that to nicer headlight

Thanks Michael - I will be doing a future video on the Lego 911 GT3 RS; I'm just waiting on some parts to arrive!
Nice video...one thing about the stance of the car...it seems like the front wheels aren't in the center of the wheel arch... maybe it's my imagination but it looks that way, and yes!! Buy this set ...it's great, you can't stop looking at it
What would you rather pick a lego porsche or ferrari 488?
Thumbs up for the tip, If I had the model, I would try the fix the headlights as well. To me thats just the worst.
Check out the Eurobricks forum post I linked in several comments for the vid - another Lego enthusiast has changed and improved the head lights.
Good work. Keep it up
Thanks bro. I'm gonna do that as soon as possible 😁

@@CraftedBricks oh, I will do. Thanks 👍
any way to put bigger wheels on ?
I did a quick Google search and it seems like it may be possible to fit the Porsche GT3 RS wheels onto this RSR model, but I've not tried so I can't give you a complete answer. Do a similar search and see what you come up with. This mod thread for this model on Eurobricks may also be of help: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/169355-42096-porsche-911-rsr-mods-and-improvements/
Could something he done to a similar extent with the new 42125 Ferrari 488?
Can you make the front wheel centerline forward one stud? The front axle looks set back too far.
Hi Dustin, unfortunately no, it would require a complete overhaul of the model and is probably not worth it for the effort needed. I'm happy with the two basic mods and I need time at the moment to focus on my Castle MOC + to shoot new content! : )

Love these mods
I just bought a replica with remote steering for 20$, lego would not even sell a remote for that price. Cant wait!
Hmm are you sure you've not been scammed? $20 for a set of this size doesn't sound legitimate, even if being a knock-off/replica.
@@CraftedBricks prices on aliexpress are weird. I got 42171 mercedes w14 for like 15 usd and 42096 for same price with rc mod kit included
In terms of quality issues - blacks on 42171 stickers are a bit greyish.

We need to figure out how to make the headlights look better.
Hi Bill - check out the comments - there's a link to a Eurobricks forum topic (also in the description of my update video) that will give you several ideas on how to fix the headlights.
Yes IMO that's a much bigger issue than what was modded here
i think it's the same designer as the Ferrari 488 GTE (#42125) because i had the same height problem with the Ferrari and if i watch this video it's because i built the Porsche 911 RSR (#42096) and it's in "baja" height position (ready to endure the desert)
The ford GT looks flat so i think there's a modification for this one too
there's another problem : there's no twin wheels on lego trucks (i'm truck driver and there's 4 wheel on each rear axle : 2 on each side, ok wide wheels exist but the wheels on lego trucks are the same width at the front and at the back so, it doesn't work)
Thanks for sharing. You definitely sound like someone who would love building custom Lego models versus sticking to standard sets. There are a lot of impressive Truck models and builds on Rebrickable, perhaps some of interest? rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=truck&page=9&sets_page_size=50&sort_sets_by=4&sort_sets_dir=D
btw where is the hand of steering im finding it for hours
Hi Marjorie - I'm not sure what you are asking? If you are looking for more modifications for this set - try searching on Eurobricks or Rebrickable. Both those sites will have options.
i need to do those once i re-assemble it
The mods make a great difference to this set that's for sure!

So, how do you fix those unsightly Headlights?
Hi Mathias - check out the ideas in the Eurobricks forum post I linked to in the description of the update video.
Cheers, Simon
the steering wheel and the piston is not working how to fix it? please i need a tutorial
@@CraftedBricks Oof! I'll watch right away, thanks alot!
Would be nice to fix the wheelbase length too: the LEGO version is proportionally shorter, front wheels heed to be moved forward (a stud or two)
I see what you mean, but that would be a tough mod to do and potentially affect so many other sections of the model.

Do you think adding electric kit worth it?
@@goldenplectrum9695 - do you mean motorising it? If so definitely not. If you mean the LED lighting kit, it depends on how you display your models. If you display them in a case then I'd say not worth it as you'll likely never turn the lights on. If you regularly touch and or move or admire your models then lighting them up can be worth it. 🙂
I've still not built mine - The headlights are the thing that stand out as looking odd.
I agree with you though if Lego had have used black and white pins for this model it would have made the model much better and given it a cleaner look.
ruclips.net/video/lZc_I0c7drg/видео.html
Buy Black Pins from Cada. They are great and way cheaper
@@CraftedBricks Hahaha trying to attach the little 1x1 beam with the roof completed would definitely be quite fiddly.

Well, they’re called “egg lights”
Even if you lower it, the side gap remains, the wheels are just too small for the car. But seems Lego doesnt have proper sized wheels for this scale of cars, unless you take the thicker wheels from like the F1 Ferrari, they got the same rim-size, but bigger tires. The steering will be kinda broken (get stuck), but at least it looks proper sized.

Thanks for the reply. Just not sure how to lower it that’s all as your video doesn’t explain clearly unlike the roof gap, thanks.
When you can download the instructions all will be clear! + I'll publish an update video soon to clarify several things that people had questions on.

Can't even buy this anymore in Australia:( I wish I could find one.
Hi 2ndLastJedi - you can definitely still pick them up in Australia - try Target, Big W and Amazon (AU) online! + Lego themselves are still listing them!
That’s so clever!

Great video! One question. When I try to download the instructions for the lowering mod it says the link is expired. Is there another link available?
Hi Steven, I'm getting the same issue (but it was fine yesterday when I checked for another YT member). The designer for the lowering mod (RB-instructions) hosts his instructions on a sever/location outside of Rebrickable. I sent him a message to let him know the link broken - let's hope he gets it back up soon!
Hi Steven - Remo, the designer of the lowering mod, has fixed his site, the instructions link is back up.
@@CraftedBricks Thank you!!!
Thank you I will try this out
Excellent, I think you'll be happy with the lowered look of the model!
What about the absolut ugly headlights?
Hi computercrack - in my update video, in the description there is a link to a Eurobricks forum thread on mods to this set. Check it out, there are several options people have come up with to update/improve the headlights. I think you'll like it.
I have an issue at my steering wheel this took me 12 hors at myself :(
It is a superb model and yes can take a while to build. With your steering issue double check your work against the instructions to see what the issue is. It can often be a small mistake early in the build that affects the model later on.
@@CraftedBricks thanks
@@CraftedBricks can you do a trc mod with tgis model btw?
2 things Lego screwed up...
At this rate they should hire some of the creators that fix these issues and also the ones that created the Koenigsegg, McLaren P1 and other amazings kits.
Yes for some sets it certainly it seems like the Lego designers take shortcuts or make unnecessary compromises. The Ferrari 488 in this scale is terrible! But the larger 1:8 scale super cars are superb, the Lego designers have done a great job with those.
My biggest issue with this kit are the huge headlamp covers, they are just bulbous and ugly, nothing like the actual Porsche!
Hi Brian - check out the mods other Lego enthusiasts have done to this set, including changing those headlights: www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/169355-42096-porsche-911-rsr-mods-and-improvements/&page=3
Yes
I just zip tied the suspension to keep it compressed. 🤷🏻♂️
Hahaha! 'MacGuyver' mod! : )
no. the headlights are the issue
Hi skaterfugater - check-out the update video I made for the mods for this set. In the description of that video there is a link to a Eurobricks forum post that has lots of ideas and ways to change the headlights for this model. I think you'll like it.
the ride height of the Ferrari 488 GTE is more prominent
Hi Alex in my update video for the Porsche I mention that RacingBrick has already done a simple mod to lower the 488 GTE. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/5bgz_zE9LjE/видео.html&ab_channel=RacingBrick
@@CraftedBricks wow that was a fast reply. I will do the mods on the RSR. I have ordered the GTE and I will fix the suspension. Thank you!
I cut the spring ;) :D
Haha - an' old school' lowering method - I like it!
