Starcraft 1 cinematics were so fucking dark. Love that shit
I liked StarCraft 2. But StarCraft and Brood War are beyond classic. Masterpiece.
Yes and I want them they have to release remastered.
As much as i love starcraft 2, i gotta say its writing is actual laziness, sc1's writing was actual kino in comparison, when you see arthur mengsk for example you realize how moving his speeches are and why was he even able to get people on his side in the first place, and then in sc2 he's just some evil space dictator 1984 space fashie allegory that nobody likes all of a sudden and nobody has any clue how he got to power in the first place. its so ass.
@@limeangelo6019 Yes ... AND no one seems to understand that Blizzard actually DESTROYED what Starcraft was in SC2, when they included "perfect unit movement" AND "unlimited control groups". This adds up to ULTIMATE DENSITY OF DAMAGE (a TIGHT blob of Marines), which gives the attacker the advantage and thus only "trained Koreans" can play it well enough. With Brood Wars you could play BGH with your friends of different skill levels without one of them roflstomping everyone else.
The only thing SC2 good at is the graphic. Blizzard abandoned this serious dark sci-fi for some pathetic space love story.
@@CP-jk3tc the Diablo 3 writing was terrible too.
I’d love to see a TV mini series based on the original SC/BW story, adapted by Craig Mazin
"Hey what's that?" "A hood ornament in a second." Haha. Got me in 1998 and still gets me in 2015
James Burtis plot twist: the zerg just wanted to cross the road but the humans mercilessly ran them over in big scary trucks, the war could have been avoided with some driving lessons.
"I love you, Sarge!"
#Juststarcraftthings
A so tragic friend's story ... but the quote is just epic xD
HipposHateWater Still a better love story than Twilight.
Adam Thompson ha, good call.
He looks very similar to Admiral DuGalle
The face sarge gave him before the zerg attacked is priceless.
Even though Starcraft 1 cutscenes obviously don't have the greatest animation, they still are able to effectively express a variety of feelings. Whether it is the unsettling nature of the terrifying Zerg, the triumphant and often overwhelming power of the Protoss, or often times just good comedy for the Terran; the cutscenes are memorable and achieve the desired effect despite limitations.
It is clear that even then Blizzard were masters at making cutscenes.
I miss this realistic, dark tone of sc1.
Dark is not inherently realistic. Fuck off with this meme that needs to die.
I love you sarge realistic
Starcraft 1 was not that dark or realistic, it just used a more antiquated CGI that gave the illusion of a gritty appearance.
I dont give a shit if its because of older animation engines. It looked and felt better that way.
@@VunderGuy
Someone saying ''they miss a dark tone'' is not a meme, the only thing that needs to die is unfunny pewdiecancer *and his mindless ''memesearching'' BANDWAGON BITCHES* .
Booya
I really enjoyed how they added the in game sounds to the cut scenes in SC1
These cinematics blew my mind as a 9 year old. Then Final Fantasy X came out and THOSE cinematics were absolutely unbelievable.
Josepg yeh and tje korhal ships lind of travel the rebel.ships frpm.star wars
"Thank god for cold fusion" this is more entertaining than most movies now adays.
8:18 is the coolest cutscene i ever saw. Still holds up in 2019 - over 20 years later. Back then games had cutscenes that you actually WANTED to see - over and over.
I strongly agree with you on this one. That scene always captivated me with the dark atmosphere and suspenseful horror.
@@Turdswamp1 yeah, I got your zerg right here, hehehehe...
This is a reference to Alien, I think
@@TrueBeliever04 just came to this video after watching alien for the first time because that scene looks like it's straight out of that movie lol
I just watched it twice.

+steven twardzik "Yeah, got your Zerg right here, hehehe...." splat!

+steven twardzik "We are all dead! Blow it, BLOOOWWWW IT!"
Such a tragic end for those Marines and Ghost, Starcraft grittyness at it's best...
10:43 Damn, Hydralisk couldn't even let the man finish his last beer.
5:03 I remember as a kid amazed by the Terrain ending, and how different regions, even the other species, receive that message. Damn I have the same chills right now!
Brood War had one of the most grimdark openings in the franchise.
No cap.
27:02 - Getting some massive Starship Troopers vibes from this. The only thing it lacks is the line "Would you like to know more?"
Dearest Helena when the news of our defeat will reach you, I will be long time dead, the corruption and the need for money, that corrupted the Blizard are untameable...
goddamn old-school cinematics lol
chickengonewild Hey back then it was pretty epic, 20 years from now people are going to laugh at our ps4 and whatnot
I never meant it was bad. I would say it was really good for 1990s cinematics :o
+chickengonewild so much better than the sc2 cinematics. sc2 was so cheesy and b-movie hollywood shit compared to the grim dark tone of the sc1 =]
+numkie yep. zeratul looks completely diff in sc2 cinematics. the voice acting sucked ass too lmao.
+Jon Yu I didn't played starcraft 1 but I must say that the cinematics of 2 was one of the best parts of the game(for me) they were stunning.
the CGI level was insane and was very entertaining to watch.
Simple fact is, Tychus *DID NOT* want to do this, betray his buddy like this. When he talked about wanting Jim to be careful, watch his back, how good fighting with Jim felt throughout the campaign, that was all genuine. In the end however, Tychus had no choice. It was him or Kerrigan, and he wasn't willing to die for Raynor's girlfriend; especially not with her being the single greatest mass murderer in the entire sector, now cured or not.
30:15 Wow the ticker is perfectly timed. Even in sync with the video timer itself!

Executor, the Overmind has been weakened, but I fear we have sustained severe damage ourselves. I will steer the Gantrithor into a collision course with the Overmind. If I can channel enough of the Dark Templars' energy through the hull of the Gantrithor, I should be able to bring swift death to the accursed abomination.
Remember us, Executor. Remember what was done here today. May Adun watch over you.
Pause at 1:48:07 and look very closely to one of Mengsk's tv screens. You can see UED's Victory report from brood war.
Mengks' coronation still is my top SC cinematic! just so freakin epic together with his speech.

@@wonokairun69 yeh is it or just me ir dies mengsk look a lot like ian mchsane
Seems like the zerg are a bit OP in cutscenes
cutscenes show the parts where the zerg have more units.
it's cause everyone has seen plenty of films of humans with guns being OP, aliens are more impressive
Just like in the game, their force is in their numbers.
To be fair, each marine attack in-game is a volley of shots (if going by sound, then 6-8 shots per attack), and their guns are .50 caliber rounds fired from electromagnetically propelled railgun rifles. This means that you need 40-50 rounds of a weapon that can probably shred apart current era tanks to kill ONE Zergling, so the Zerg are in fact ludicrously OP and made even more so by their mass numbers.
@@joshuakim5240 , actually C-14 Impaler rifle uses 8 mm needle-like ammo.
With hypersonic velocity of 6M one round possesses 39551.66 J of kinetic energy which is above AMR's 14.5x114 mm round. It's too little to harm tanks, but can turn some APC into swiss cheese and make a red jelly from organic substances.
So what's my point? It is that the authors clearly do not understand the real capabilities of the weapons they described and unable to show their effect correctly.
"Thank God for cold fusion" Still cracks me up that they have beer next to a nuke.
"The Amerigo" is, so far the best cinematic
I got yer zerg right here

I suppose, but I'm partial to 15:18 ...the dude getting killed while celebrating, the commander just getting melted
This was brutal to me as an 8 year old
Dated though they may be, the original SC cinematics had SUPERB direction, editing, and writing.
MEMORIES! :D Starcraft was my first game, played it when i was like, 3 years old!
the game was so mysterious, I had trouble understanding everything but the game felt more like an exploration adventure to me. which is why it took like a day or two for me to successfully beat a single campaign map, even with cheats on, I was always too scared about what i might encounter.
you didn't play starcraft when u was 3 years old..
phoimer I did, My sister reminded me of what happened. I was watching Dad play games (including Starcraft) and I decided I'll memorize the password because I wanted to play another game. After some time, maybe a few days, I logged in and played many games. I remember some; Bubble Bobble world, Pacman adventures in time, Fianl Fantasy and, Best of all! Starcraft! :D
I grew attached to starcraft because I knew the game had more to it and like i mentioned, I sucked at it XD
There must have been some time when you played Pac-Man and starcraft. I won't believe it
+phoimer Ummm what? The first two games I played were Red Alert 2 and Starcraft, both when I was 4, so I can totally believe him. My dad played these games, and I wanted to play them when I saw him playing them. You don't know him, just because your childhood wasn't as exciting as his doesn't mean he's a liar.
+phoimer I played starcraft when I was 3 years old :P
Damn, its been about 20 years since I first watched these cinematics. I was probably about six to eight years old. What a trip to rewatch them.
Played this on our windows 95 compaq pc was happy it ran smooth on it back then. Miss those days.
I love that Starcraft 1 and Brood War cutscenes had a combined 31 minutes of footage; and Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm had a combined 1 hour 20 minutes.
That cinematic where Tassadar sacrifices himself to kill the Zerg is still one of the best cinematics ever made.
Thank you for posting this vid and reminding me of what Starcraft used to represent, a cult classic.
Here here! I couldn't agree more.
Amen brother.. Same thing with D1 D2 and WoW.. Blizzard turned into an alcoholic father who started ruining everything that was good about your childhood!
19:53 always look for this gem
Don’t run out of ammo in sc tho
It's a damn shame that Blizzard lost so much of their magic. I like the dark tone to Starcraft 1 and Brood War, which had a serious, mature and adult story-line. SC2's campaign is so damn different and the story is much more shallow. I did not believe that Blizzard produced it. The characters were as flat as cardboard and they ruined the series by turning it into a corny love story. The mission briefings didn't have the the strong dialogue in that of Brood War's. The characters in Brood War were well-spoken people and sounded like they were in Greek epic or something. Raynor just met Kerrigan when he joined the Sons of Korhal. He wasn't that attached to Kerrigan. Maybe Blizzard couldn't think of a better way to continue the story. They worked hard on SC2 but its campaign just doesn't match up to the glory days. I think they should make a SC1 and BW anniversary with better graphics and more high quality cut scenes, but without removing the things that made SC1 epic - the dialogue, the dark tone to the story and the serious, life-like characters without all the junk that made Starcraft 2's campaign shallow and childish.
Indeed. Great to see that im not alone.
MrOptimus117
I dont agree, but thats just my opinion
MrOptimus117 lol yea, that was goofy, but they at least made the story feel like it was made for an audience of teenagers and adults. sc2's campaign was damn childish.
thetoughguy jr.
Yeah.
I agree with both sides. Starcraft I depicted humans like we took 2 steps back on the evolutionary path. Starcraft II was more epic, but over-dramatized, at points. Still, I enjoyed watching this.
12:24 Is damn majestic and horrifying at the same time. This unstoppable swarm of unknown creatures are traveling through space, and its only a matter of time until they are at your doorstep. The music is kinda mystical too.
year 1999 i remember my first copy of starcraft i played 12 hours non stop
Without fail, every time I watch Mengsks coronation speech I get serious goosebumps :)
@Jakub Bończak Democracy is flawed, it's human, after all. What would be a good substitute tho?
@Jakub BończakThanks for taking the time to answer me. I'm very curious to see what political and economic system will rule the world in the future. Too bad (or good?) I will not be alive to see.
@Jakub Bończak Let's hope we advance techonolically with no harm to our own World. Look at China, they progress, but they ravage Earth. And like you, i hope we don't end up as an unified world. Most of the time unification means erasing cultures, races, thoughts, plus, as you said, no competition, no progress.
@Jakub Bończak Yes! I'm latino! I'm a proud Latino! I love my continent and people. Pardon my ignorance, but do polish people consider themselves slavs?
It's a shame that modern video games don't have this kinda dark atmosphere, BW basically ended with the bads guys winning and everything being lost...
I mean dead space looked really gritty
Yea the new movies and games these days are simply.
"Gay"
Well, there's the likes of Command and Conquer: Generals+Zero Hour (it ends with America being isolationist and China being the only prime world power) and Tiberium Wars (upcoming Scrin invasion, with the GDI being battered combined with Nod losing most of its manpower and resources). Also, Ground Control I+Dark Conspiracy.
Watch your tone, Daniel Aaron.
@@freedinner886i agree every game looks a little to colorful these days
4:55 still gets me so excited, so awesome.
29:17 UED has defeated Zerg, humanity has triumphed
29:22 UED Fleet is in a desperate retreat to Earth
If only somone can explain wtf is happening
masterman3211 The Earth fleet (UED) was sent to the Koprulu sector to claim the human colonies in the name of humanity, to pacify the zerg and to stop the protoss interference. They succeed up to a point until infested Kerrigan makes an unlikely alliance with Raynor, Mengsk and the Protoss to bring down the UED. She does so by betraying and defeating everyone at the end of Brood War.
Starcraft II came along and pissed all over the original story with mushy-mushy love story that never was in the original game, inconsistent and stupid characters and a storyline resembling that of Warcraft III where instead of the Burning Legion we have the Dark Voice in the Void threatening to Kil'Jaeden everyone. :))
lol thanks didnt expect som1 to respond XD

StarCraft is one of my favorite game franchises. Thanks for this video. I love it so much
the art direction for sc1 was way better
In my opinion the designs in sc1 were pretty ugly
17 years ago, yet I still think this looks pretty good :)
+Simon Huus Kristensen Ahhhhhh, the memories and nostalgia!
It's ironic that old games kick ass much more than newer ones. Same for movies. Why?
Tom Cat Keep telling yourself that, must be you're either too nostalgic at heart or just not invested enough in the current gaming scene to know that the jewels of this era in gaming excel at everything old games just weren't ready for yet. Mechanics are better, production value has went way up, visuals are better, communities grow larger, bigger multiplayer (bigger everything actually) and most narratives are awesome, you just need to avoid the corny, cheesy, crappy AAA storywriting and -telling if you find story really important. Shit's real good nowadays, you just need to get over all the good times you had playing the old stuff, it's not always as amazing as you make it up to be.
Karel Van Daele
I guess I'm being nostalgic but the feeling remains. I think the same about movies, animes and mangas.. Especially about mangas, my favourite ones date back to the 90's or even earlier. The reason might be that I grew up with that stuff, so watching and comparing the various masterpieces all around brings back old memories. I don't know but that feeling of surprise and wonder is not the same. I can bring u some examples, like "The Fifth Element" or "The Terminator". There is a scene in the first movie I mentioned, where the Diva sings and u can see planet Earth in the background. It was simple, yet beautiful, and I'm not the only one saying that. I played all the Starcraft games, but the first ones cannot be beaten in my opinion. I'm not talking about the graphics, the visuals and the communities, cause of course, this battle will be won by the recent games. I'm talking about something I can't find anymore and that I can't explain properly (and I apologize for that). And it's not about growing up or dealing with reality, cause I still play and read mangas like when I was a teenager (or even earlier).
Tom Cat I'm nostalgic as shit about morrowind and oblivion, but after playing skyrim I just can't go back and enjoy them like I used to because of how horribly dated everything is.
SC1 holds up ok compared to newer rts games, but I wouldn't give it any awards outside of a neat storyline that is not afraid to be dark.
Nostalgia is 50/50.
Basically, stop trying to compare everything to 'the good old days' and you will suddenly find yourself marveling at everything again like you used to, although you're now more mature than you used to be (I hope ;3).
Just let things stand on their own and don't try to compare it negatively to the past, it does it's own things that the past didn't or couldn't do, so there is now more new stuff than ever to wonder at.
TLDR: you cant forget what you learned in the past, but if you really try to avoid comparing everything to it, you will find yourself enjoying everything new a lot more.
Karel Van Daele original statecraft is still way for fun than stacraft 2 will ever be
Easy post-modernism.
I'm was really disappointing how SC2 got Michael Bay'ed - great visuals and designs, terrible dialogue, plot, and overall substance. The original was concise and mature, SC2 is just a teenager's action/drama going on nothing other than "rule of cool".
More like horrible Hollywood dropouts along with shitty love story between Raynor and Kerrigan.
"Yea, I started rebellion because of a woman I loved turned Zerg, despite the fact she killed billions of Terran and Protoss."
Yeah it’s kinda like Starwars in the sense a few people’s personal bullshit killed millions across a galaxy. There are no real heroes, and if they are, their self involved Greek tragic ones. Meh.
I remember the exact moment I lost anything resembling interest in SC2's story
It was when Kerrigan, without any prior explanation, gets into a giant DBZ laser fight with a bad guy.
I'm still impressed the cinematics for Starcraft 1 still look great after all these years. I used to remember playing this game a lot on Win95 way back in the day. :)
16:26 What did that poor dragoon ever do to those terrans? His friends avenged him pretty quickly though.

@@P3ndejosG4ng fuck man, look at a real war in Ukraine, how American HIMARS have been fucking up Russian supply depots, you can never let the enemy get too close to your supply depots. It all makes sense now.

The editing are art was amazing wasn't it? The tone, the colors the culture of the characters. All fit together great.
Great compilation! Much appreciated! God...its incredible but of course not surprising how much the Blizz cinematics have developed over the years...
30:15 so advanced in time and technology and they still have record players.
41:09 “New exclusive footage confirms the Queen of Blades is in fact leading the swarm!”
The music and the sight of Kerrigan’s eyes turning to the camera… chills! Especially after waiting for so long between the two StarCraft games.
Watching these after seeing the end to LotV makes it a lot more interesting. Especially with the foreshadowing.
12:11 - I know a lot of sci-fi franchises do things like this, but that explosion was so over-the-top that I just need to say...
There's no sound or fire in space.

Somebody needs to make a movie based on this! No question.
I remember thinking the graphics were so good at the to time. Good stuff
Holyshit. This takes me all the way back to 98'. Stil remember the very first time I played starcraft with my classmates over LAN party fell in love with everything about this game

SC1's story was mature, political and adult. And the cutscenes reflected that perfectly with the dark atmosphere you mentioned. It did not feature "in your face" scenes...it rather created a forum for conjecture than spoon feed you "teh epicness".
Go fuck yourself
derpeter1234
Fine argument. Please, let us hear more!
Alonso de Hojeda adult and mature are not points of praise in the same way childish is not a point of criticism they are merely descriptive terms and the fact that a story is considered by you as adult or mature does not affect the product in any way shape or form
Evolution happened. Just sayin'.... I mean you would blame Blizzard again if it was the same feeling. The purpose of the games is to move on.
Who wants to see the UED come back in Starcraft 3, but this time they are falsely led by Duran who didn't 'SPOILER' die at Kerrigans hands to bring vengeance against them for killing Amon
I don't think Starcraft 3 will ever come out. Will it...?
Lentex The Legacy of The Void is the ending of the StarCraft Trilogy.
Trilogy? There was only starcraft 1 and 2 so far...
oh ok
blizzard had hinted that there will be return of UED
The greatest love story of all time .. worth watching
Ive always been pussled by the opening scene and endscene of the Terrans...
The sound design is wellmade, and gives a feeling of loneliness...
The reason is the echo in the spacecrafts radio...
But the catch is.... In space, and even more so... in a suit... there is no room for echo....
The sound gives you the right feeling, but the physics say its ooo so wrong with echoes in space or tightup suites...
Wierd how association overrides common sense.
common sense? the cosmic space is relatively new concept for human sense
Terran
i prefer the style and tone of this then SC2, sc2 is so over refined and fancy compared to the grimy space truck stop that is sc1
100%
the plasticine transformers SC2 is a total garbage
That Dragoon ambush was awesome
The opening to brood war always pissed me off, those bureaucratic bastards left those men to die
The marines in the trenches were not their men. Actually they were enemies because the marines were from Terran Dominion while Stukov and DuGalle are from UED. They were observing warfare and potentialities of zerg and hostile terrans.
NO MATTER DA COST!
StarCraft II's script is a silly space opera, a mockery of the first title's dark story and an insult to the deliciously evil female badass that was BW's Kerrigan. Luckily it's first and foremost an online multiplayer game, arguably the best, and the single player missions are still fun to play.
+xtremereggae True that, but I kind of enjoyed Wings of Liberty's story.... still, the ending was too fairy-tale for starcraft. They could have done it much better, if Kerrigan would have been killed, Raynor goes mad with fury and kills Tycus, then in the second expansion when facing Zeratul's impending doom vision thing, they could have done something along the psi emitter development line story... the zerg are in chaos and fighting amongst each brood again and Raynor's crew tries to gather intel and develope a new advanced psi emitter to somewhat control the zerg and use them against the coming Xel'Naga (but secretly he just wants to use them to attack the Dominion and kill Mengsk. We could have also had a some major story development for Nova, with Raynor trying to turn her against the Dominion and maybe use her powerful psi abilities in conjunction with a new psi-emitter to control the zerg... basically try to use Nova in the role of a Queen of Blades... but maybe without the whole metamorphosis again (would be too repetitive).
Sorry for the wall of text, but I just had this alternative story idea and couldn't keep it to myself :D
+xtremereggae are you not listening to the story? catch up on it in legacy of the void and tell me again how its some mockery. i think it lived up to sc1 nicely.
+dawsonoo7 Thnks for the spoiler
Ridalia
You're welcome... but really? the game has been out for how many years now and it's a random comment that spoils it for you? you could also have stopped reading after "the Wings of Liberty story"
thats ok :3
I fucking love Kerrigan
"So I says, Answer THAT and stay Fashionable!"
"It's not funny anymore Harley!"
When you think about it, I love how Kerrigan decides to leave Jim to create a new form of a Zerg swarm: One that follows Kerrigan to actually never to conquer any other planet. I feel like if they make a Starcraft 3, its going to be the Primal Zerg's Colony vs Kerrigan's Colony (with the help of the Protoss and Jim's Army), making the third one a final series and to finish off the game.
If that happens, Im buying all of the Starcraft games to make Blizzard happy
It can be interesting but i would rather the idea about the UED returning, just maybe some of the fleet survive in hidden planets and went to the Earth but due to the distance it would take them more time than expected.
Absolutely loved the gameplay, music and artwork of SC2, but the script... it's like the script was fanfiction written by a 13 year old. The story and dialogue of SC1 was more intelligent in every conceivable way.
SC1 was keeping the mysterious atmosphere better. And I finally realized there were only 32mins of old SC cinema
Cant wait to see these re-mastered!!!!!
Late reply, but remaster of first game and blood wars didn't change cinematics
Well, at least they added subtitles
So....why was Jim locked in a jail cell on a prison ship........with his loaded hand cannon? They must have been on the honor system.
18:00 best cinematic blizzard ever made, change my mind
The way sarge says “that’s a zergling, a smaller type of Zerg” idk it’s just about the best voice acting I’ve heard in my life. They simply don’t make them like they used to
Also to the Protos cutscene at 23.36 min.... The track International Code from Independence day fits perfect to the cutscene...
Almost too perfect :)
SC1 Terran cutscenes are just amazing. Nothing comes close.
The Device at 25:36 must have been a variant of the Xel'naga Artifact in WoL
lol lol the character models look like they’re made of play dough 😂😂…MANNN this brings me back, I would play this everyday after school in 1999. Still holds up better than most!!!!
I always hate seeing the poor white Marine and the black Marine left to die in the trench, its kinda funny because the black marine knows that if the BC isnt already helping it wont so hes coping with his death by rocking back and forth. The white marine somehow holds on to it till the very end until that look on his face when the BC heads off to orbit.
Marvelous work and efforts done, very very nice. Thank you.
The Science Vessel fight scene gave me fucking NIGHTMARES.
reminds me of when starcraft was good. WHAT HAPPENED?

Awesome man, thanks for uploading this
TBH I wanted Kerrigan to have her hair red again after turning into a human
Me too; have her hair stocks hollow and pulled away with her red locks within. Nobody would question it.
