The voice actor (i believed he was an actor)of Marius really dominates and delivered a fantastic performance for us to experience. in those years voice acting in video games weren't that so great and actors during that days were skeptical about accepting a project involving a video game unlike today. it's like he shattered that stigma and rose as one of the best voice actors in gaming history.
It's the best in all of Diablo 2. The tomes in Diablo 1 give it a run for its money. I personally loved Marius's description of it "I heard a voice then, like a thousand needles in my heart..."
@@drownthepoor example of the story being disney-like? i thought D3 was pretty dark and well written except for shit like azmodan revealing his plans etc
The tragedy of Marius is heartbreaking... from the brief respite when he says he's glad its finally over, to his last sobbing grimace when his last words are "what have I done to deserve this?" Wanted more of his story.
Marius is a loser, he made every choice, he deserved it. He is a personification of the average person. Be mediocre at life, blame everyone but themselves and continue to live life unimpressive.
The biggest improvement (other than removing the Act IV alpha Diablo) was how fantastic Tal Rasha looks. In the originals it was almost a little difficult to see what was happening in the Act III cutscenes and Tal Rasha looked like Mr. Magoo. The final crystal explosion is obviously a thousand times better than the 3d benchmark graphics they used in the original.
Tal Rasha looks amazing here! It´s a shame Bhaal looks worse than in the original. Out of the demon brothers I think Mephisto is done the best, looks strange at first but terrifying when I study him more. Diablo looks good and I´m glad they didn´t make him look like D3, but Bhaal could be better reimagined her I think.
@@martinlidegran4819 Hm. I thought Baal actually looked more intricate / defined his features more with the remaster. Looks more threatening instead of a little robotic crab demon man like in the original.
@@zera2314 I agree. But that´s much to do with the improved graphics, even if Bhaal is more intricate and detailed in this, it´s thanks to 20 years of improving technology. I think it would´ve been better to find a concept closer to the original and then worked on,,, or mix in some of the concept work from his new Tal Rasha form somehow.
I miss the camera shaking when Diablo takes a step. Really added a whole larger than life feel to the villain. Like not only was he huge but he weighed as much as a skyscraper.
Yeah I mentioned this too. Was so surprised they missed the mark with this as they got nearly everything else right. The way diablo walks, his back spines facing down and the leg musculature allude to an intelligent and regal quality that this dinosaur rendition really misses. It's a shame as they game is near perfect as a remake minus the bugs n dodgy launch stuff
I think its more the fact that it sounds like something that's new. If you showed someone who has never seen Diablo they would say this was just made. The audio syncing has nothing to do with it however. They just made the animation to match the audio (also they had a template to work off of) and that's how most animation audio matches. At least with voices any ways, otherwise you would never get a mouth to truly sync up. But, yes the audio is fantastic and even the old cinematics look good.
@@betafishjeremy7454 I’m not talking about the lip sync I’m talking about the overall richness of the audio. The crisp voices and ambient sounds. The extraordinary attention to detail on things like background sound effects (footsteps and even the inmate voices in the asylum. League above what you see in many modern productions. It’s like Painting with Bob Ross level.
Sound design and music was stellar in original game; in-game and in the cinematics as well. And they still are 20 years later considering the technology available at the time. I agree that they have really cranked up the audio with higher sample rates, detailed ambient, deeper bass and some more modern tweaks here in the resurrected version cinematics. Changes are noticeable if you are familiar with the original game and have a decent setup for audio. The sync with the new animation is usually pretty simple: it is done by syncing the separate audio/music/dialogue tracks with the fresh animations. Or change the speed or animation to match it as closely as possible to the characters whether possible :)
@@Easyflux Many people who still care about this game in 2021 are the ones who liked those dramatic gestures. The old sound design was perfect and If they changed that it would have received a massive dislike.
Making it crispy clear and redesigning the looks of characters took away the fell of the story being a nightmare/insane man's recollection of events. The upscaled by AI version that you can find on yt is way better.
I strongly agree. There is a lot of little stuff that are not as great as the original one. I kinda dislike the face of Baal too. The original one was more clean visually speaking. Oh and, being French, i grew up with the French version, and actually, i have been able to find the Fr version of the Act 4 cinematic (At the gate of hell) and the voice of Mephisto has been redone at perfection even in French dub (Imho the French dub of Mephisto is even better that the English one :D )
Diablo II cinematics are easily some of the most heartfelt and beautiful in the HISTORY of gaming. I will never forget the emotion I felt when Baal and Diablo overtake Tyrael in ACT II. Or The Wanderer (our hero from the first Diablo) finally loses his battle with evil and transforms into Diablo. The final cinematic from which the worldstone is destroyed and that goosebump inducing score takes places. They did an excellent job transforming these older cinematics into modern works of art. Although I will not say they are perfect regarding some minor changes in scenes and sound that is a little off in places. Otherwise, a phenomenal job. Can't wait to see everyone on the battlefield of sanctuary tomorrow. I feel like I'm 12 years old all over again and it's an exciting time again to be a gamer.
Well said. I will say Diablo’s face was a little different too compared to the older cinematic. I also wish Tyrael’s wings were as long and gorgeous too. But yes, very well done!
Agreed. In my opinion, the resurrected cinematics are a separate piece of art and a new interpretation of the original game cinematics 20 years ago. I remember that they were legendary at the time, too. It is hard to say whether the resurrected ones are better because they are not identical compared to the original - and the technology has been quite limited in the early 2000s :)
I still prefer the old ones. I don't care much about "graphical fidelity", and more about artistical merit. Sure, art is subjective. And I can only give my opinion (subjective perspective) on it. So: I think that except of the epilogue, Marius got kinda ruined because of the lack of expression. I've seen people saying that it is more realistic now, but I think that it is the entire opposite. His expressions makes it seem much more like he is having some kind of inconvenience than, I don't know, maybe literally reflecting the fact that he saw dozens of innocent people getting murdered by demonic forces and indescribable infernal horrors? He literally carries the fate of the world within the stone that he did not have the courage to destroy, because it involved going to hell, but he looks like he just feels uncomfortable because he peed his pants. A real person on that situation would have a bit more of facial expression, wouldn't they? Also, some smaller details. Tyrael's armor was just turned 100% power fantasy. He is just enormous with big, exaggerated armor. And to be honest, they butchered his wings. What made him feel so ominous and beautiful was how immense and detailed his wings looked. Baal's walk after killing Marius also just ruined it for me. The original angle was perfect, and it was even kinda slowed to add dramatic effect. It looked so perfect that I used a screen capture from that scene as my steam profile for many years. Diablo walking towards the portal made he seem HUGE on the original. And now, the things that I think got really improved: Tal Rasha, Mephisto and Baal looks UNBELIAVABLY good. I can't even describe how perfect Baal is. Also, Mephisto got pretty disgusting. The way his loose skin flails in the ritual scene is horrible. I loved it. The scene where Baal kills Marius got completely terrifying. But overall, they kinda ruined what they just couldn't. Marius is the guy telling the story. If you can't get invested on him, it defeats a lot of the immersion. I remember how much I felt sorry for him on the original when he described the gathering on the third act. Hearing his voice break like that made me associate it with that small, fragile, broken man, and it felt so cruel. Now, he just seems... fake. I can't empathize with a character that don't react to emotions. And it's more sad when you compare it with the absurd voice acting. But hey, I still would give it an 8 out of 10 for just how beautiful and well done it is, overall. Just a shame that something so small breaks it so much for me.
Baal’s slow walk as he left Marius’ cell, as opposed to the more menacing walk in the original, is balanced out by the more forceful expression when shouting “enough!” So good.
Honestly, I don't even think he needs to be menacing while walking into a cell of a broken man. He's enjoying himself, having fun, just living in the moment, all while literally trolling a tortured old man which to me feels even more evil.
still...feel sorry for Marius when Baal puts him at rest, and watch him collapse onto the floor like that...you can all feel for him when he (a mere frail mortal) pissed his pants when tried to enter the portal into the burning hells. (though so did he when he removed the soulstone from Baal/Tal Rasha anyways)...so yeah, Baal just put him to rest with that insta kill move :)
For the life of me I'll never understand why they actually extended the bridge to Baal's forces in the Act V cinematic. The emissary didn't even cross it to address Baal, so all they did was just make it easier to lay siege on their fortress.
Why not? The reason diablo was a great game and great story is that Barbarians are strong mofo, in this game even without the help of Angel, human can come together defeat Diablo and his kind.
@@whosurdaddy1975 Except Diablo is defeated by the Nephilim. Not strictly humans. I think the door and the bridge were connected. Besides it's unlikely that the lack of bridge would've stopped him. Also maybe it's the Necromancer from the town that extended it.
@@lkotro21 There were no Nephalem during the events of Diablo 2, so the Evils were defeated by mere humans this time around. The powers of the Nephalem were sealed via the big red stone that Tyrael destroys at the very end here, hence why they are "returning" in Diablo 3.
@@lkotro21 Humans are decendants of the Nephalem, but not Nephalem themselves. Nephalem have much greater power than humans. But the heroes in D2 are in fact "just" humans. Actually the only time in the three games that the main characters are just a bunch of random dudes.

really did a above and beyond job at the remastering... wish i can say the same for all the other remaster or ahem.. There’s a VG news content creator called Bellula (think that’s the spelling). He explained that there was a lot of interference from Activision that killed a lot of the games potential. It was only going to get them millions in terms of profit, not billions, so they saw it as a lost cause and cut the funding. They only gave them a year to wrap it up and used the profits from preordering reforged on other projects instead of the actual game itself. Some of the devs aren’t off the hook either, but the biggest strides came from Activision.
These new cinematics are next level awesome! One thing I realized and never questioned though: why did they extend the bridge to Baal when he arrived in Act 5? Surely that is not a great idea lol.
@@BeyondDaX And if not, they can always retract the bridge later and separate the beasties from the rest of the army, open the doors a crack and kill the small group that rushes through at their own pace. Rinse, repeat.
The cinematics that were once legendary time, have been remade once again into something legendary. Loving every minute of it. Pray for me, this game might just devour my soul a second time.
only thing i love more in original are Tyraels wings, they are so much shorter now. In the worldstone chamber,i imagined because of the reality nexus you can see even bigger but distorted wings and the portal ripple effect

great graphics yeah but the reason why I love the original so much is because I can really feel the desperation and anguish in Marius' face. That was the first thing I was looking for

Marius : well there were two prime evils guarding that gate at that time a whole army a demons beyond the gate, Tyrael, why is that a pronlem? Marius: are you shi&$&$ me? You couldn’t even beat a weakened form of diablo and bael and you are an arc angel!!! Im level 1 crazy drunken !!
Yeh everyone always shitting on Marius, but who is the real moron here, the skinny old drunkard or the arc angel who entrusted the fate of the world into him and expected him to do that shit?
Tyrael had to hold off Baal and Diablo at the same time which lets face it the only beings coming away from that alive or victorious are the arch angels from the angiris council, uldyssian, or the nephalam who comes later on in the lore/franchise.
Ah, so it looks like they took the original recording of Mephisto's voice, and spliced it in with the edited version. Interesting, I never knew it was the same VA that did the book narrations.
God, I love this. The Diablo 2 storytelling is just special. Watching this, I can still feel the same chills as I did the first time I played this game.
I'm glad the final cutscene is finally in line with the rest of them. It always bothered me that they changed the style (Tyrael's spectral wings in particular) for the addon-cutscenes. Though I have to say I liked the way the crystal splintered into those needle-like fragments in the original a bit more than the new chunkier pieces.
The original wings are sooo much cooler though, and just better animated in general. And who is to say that they are not like that because of the presence of the world-stone?
Tal Rasha's sealing and Baal's invasion of Sescheron was magnificent. But my most favorite cinematic was the destruction of the Worldstone. Tyrael's chanting is really cool. But I think they nerfed the effects on his wings on this part only. I remember it used to have these watery-like-effects-thingy wrapping around his wings.
After being jobless after Starcraft: Remastered, Aldaris left Aiur, gave his all for living as Mephisto somewere in Sanctuary world. Thx bliz for clearing this to us :D :D
Though I prefer Tyrael's Diablo 3 voice actor, I love how he's portrayed here. Somewhat ambiguous and threatening. His wings are absolutely incredible to look at, too. I always loved the Diablo franchise's take on angel wings and how they're just these massive tendrils of light. They're so expressive and dynamic - much more than just some bird's wings.
@Teutonic Knight 100%. I prefer 3's voice, but Diablo 2's everything else when it comes to Tyrael. He's just so... sterile in 3. Not a threatening bone in his body and I hate how much they softened him. Justice isn't soft and caring and any personification of it should be more harsh and imposing. Just because a character is a "good-guy" doesn't mean they have to be all friendly and approachable.
Im sad to say that the D2 remaster is probably only this good because Blizzard understood how not allowed they were to ever repeat anything remotely close to Warcraft 3 reforged. Silver lining i suppose.
I feel like it's an AMAZING feedback that all people have are nitpicks that not everyone even agrees with, because honestly, this couldn't have been done better by any other studio. Thanks Vicarious Visions
Tal rasha use his body to hold baal similar to the warrior and diablo, act v shows tal rasha is no more, baal oso consumed tal rasha knowledge meaning he is stronger than before captured
Uploader doing god's work. These cinematics are the only reason that I would have considered buying D2:R, especially since it won't have mod support. So that being said, thanks bro, you saved me $40! :)
Looks great, but i feel originals were more convincing, especially regarding Marius, the only thing i favor here is that Baal looks so much more intimidating and horrifying.
The best of all cutscenes in Diablo 2 is the last one where Tyrael destroys the worldstone. Not only it looks epic, it gives the player a sense of satisfaction on watching such an awesome sight after beating the game.
Mixed feelings about this one. I feel that they subdued Marius' body language a bit too much, and took away a lot of the drama from the Kurast temple bit by removing Mephisto's facial animations and the weight from Diablo's footsteps that made everything shudder in the original. You can't even make out the screaming faces of the portal. However, Baal looks fucking fierce, especially in the LoD intro, and the early acts really benefit from the effects reboot. And I'm of course pleased to see they stuck to the source material extremely closely.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. Watching Marius was harder this time around because you couldn't feel his desperation and anguish in his facial features nearly as much. Diablo looks amazing, but his presence isn't felt with the ground shaking beneath him. He didn't feel as "powerful". And Mephisto's body language was kinda half-assed with his opening sentences seemingly not lining up properly in the animation.
I'm also on the fence, don't get me wrong it's mind blowingly impressive but there's a few artistic flairs they threw in which I think spoil it. That silly little roar Diablo makes as Mephisto talks to him before entering the portal... why??! Another is Bhaal revealing the Marius that he's not Tyreal.. with a little horror-face flash over him, just not needed. Lastly Tyreal looks fucking amazing graphically updated but I much preferred his trippy jelly wings that spread over the entire shot, and they removed his burning-white aura when we get a front look at him before he chants to bless his sword before hurling it. I feel like that kinda gave him that other-worldly godlike feel and they took it away :( Nit picky things but yeah still very impressive and nice to see.
Baal's facial expressions and gestures are actually drastically toned down in this new LoD intro cinematic. I prefer the cheekier shit-eating grin and flamboyance that the Baal in the old LoD intro cinematic had.
I'm disappointed because they removed Baal's body gestures so instead of expressing his eccentric character on the very first up close shot, he looks instead like a bored demon. I missed him silencing the echos with just the snap of a finger, and feels odd that they would draw the bridge to an army of demons.
Most cutscenes are amazing. Especially the last two. But they tend to cut away often at good, gory, and more cinematic stuff like Act3 Tyrael's white/shiny/blurry delirious speech at Marius Act4 Wanderer's skin being rip asunder from within. Epilogue's Diablo body exploding/gibbing, Baal's walking off the burning asylum at slow-mo *and low FPS* Act5 Emisary's eardrums bleeding, and Baal's army charge.
The change in Act V was very positive - the "eardrums bleeding" that you described is unbelievably annoying for people suffering from tinnitus. I'm really happy they removed that effect. I don't however understand why they made Baal do some weird gesture with it's hand while it's clear he tried to hush down the voice in the original with specific gesture.
@@ashrasmun1 I don't get your first statement, both are sign / symptom respectively that can or not be related (often not) depending on the illness responsible, and even then, we're talking about very loud, mountain-shaking levels of decibells beating down on a poor mortal's eardrums, hearing bones, and cochlea of course they're gonna be shattered... hell poor man should start suffering from vomit and vertigo right away. Anyway, about the gestures, yeah he does wave his head and hands in the original cutscene but not that much. This could also be because they've messed around the camerawork at some parts.
I love how Marius looks at his pipe at 6:01 like, "Bruh, dis sum good shit." Also, that gatekeeper who told Baal to piss off is the bravest mofo in the history of gaming EVER.
Well, if you saw a guy who 5 seconds earlier could barely walk, start speed walking at full speed with no trouble, you would kinda be freaked out too right?
As much as i love these remastered cinematics i don't like one thing about them. Tyrael looks here like in diablo 3, i know it's still an amazing design but in original diablo 2 you could feel that he's a being from different realm, like everytime he was present he was very blurry and he's wings seemed to have no end. You could feel that he didn't belong there
Literally the only thing they failed with, which is sort of a big deal in a way, is the emotion on Marius face. He's not very expressive here while you can see how pained he is in the original cinematics. Especially in act 4. Kind of a bummer but other than that, this looks absolutely amazing!
They weren't as aggressive about treading that line between realism and artistic exaggeration that was necessary to portray it. The Resurrected is too heavy on the former, more muted expression and the original was over the top - which suited Marius' unbelievable performance.
His body language is also incredibly muted or makes him look more confident then his voice sounds in the remaster. Especially in the first cut scene, he looks more stretched out towards Baal which makes him look more confident and wise instead of afraid or tormented. He just doesn't look like the broken and disturbed man that fit the original so well.
The only thing I don't care for is...why is it when they open the gate to Hell, did blizzard make the sounds of the souls of the damned super quiet or practically not there at all?
That used to bug me in the original cinematic too. Come to think of it, Meph probably used telepathy to convey his thoughts, hence foregoing physically using his mouth to talk.
New Marius (well, new aged Marius) looks great. My main beef with the new intro cinematic would be the shot of Bale assuming Tyrael's form: in the old version, it truly looked confused and spectral, like an apparition, something wonderful, either angelic or daemonic. In the new version, that sense of mystery is gone, he looks like a big generic Blizzard character with giant cartoonish fingers and shoulderpads, might as well be Buzz Lightyear. I also find both hooded-Bale and the wanderer a bit too "human" in this version. Their taller silhouette and slightly unnatural movement in the old cinematics made them way creepier.
I remember 16 years ago my father first introduced me to this game. It was my first game ever that I played. 16 years ago I still play it. I was 6 back then
A few things I noticed: 1.I like how the intro cinematic gives off a slightly different feel to Marius then the original. Whereas there he was fidgety and shaking to give off the feeling of someone who was on the verge of madness, but forced himself to remain vigilant Here, he seems like a half-dead, beaten and tired old man keeping himself alive out of obligation to guard the soulstone , even if it is draining what little strength he has left 2.In the act 3 cinematic, I like that they slowed down the fight between Diablo and Tyrael, to make it seem that Tyrael wasn't just wasting time swinging wildly but was actually going for the kill and would have succeeded if Marius hadn't pulled out the soulstone 3.In the Act 4 Cinematic, I felt like it wasn't as epic as the original cause the screams of the damned souls are basically inaudible most of the time, plus they added more sound effects to Mephisto's voice which honestly took away from how good his voice actor's performance is (the voice of Grandpa Max from Ben 10 ironically) 4.In the epilogue, I feel like the model didn't quite match the pain and anguish the voice actor was portraying ( 60's Batman's Riddler, no really, look it up) Whereas in the original this was a lot better as he was fidgeting , drooling etc 5.And in the LoD cinematic where we see Baal for the first time in his real form, if you look at his face you'll notice that its the skin of Tal'Rasha's face torn and stretched from his transformation. You can even see the line where it ends, leatherface style And its a nice piece of characterization too, cause it shows how petty Baal is. He is literally wearing the face of the man who helped imprison him out of spite, even tho his soul is long gone 6.And in the final cinematic there's a slight stutter at the very beginning, likely a reference to how the original was
Another interesting detail added is that in the Act 5 intro cinematic. Baal's army being in much higher detail actually shows in-game enemies standing ready (the spike maulers and the reanimated horde skeletons). In the original, the only troops that had enough detail to barely be discerned were the clan lord minotaurs, who don't even show up in the first segments of the act.
Oh, heah, act 4 cinematic! The faces in the portal are less obvious and the wailing is way down. In general, I'm not really a fan of the changes to the audio mix, just seems more muddled and average.
same. maybe just because I watched the originals a few 1000 times, but some of the facial expressions are missing or not as I would have made them. Not sure I like tap rasha and Baals look now....and finally, and this is a weird one: once diablo transformed, the physics on his worn and torn cloak were amazing and they kind of toned that down here
Baal looks like he was played by Joaquin Phoenix. "How about another joke, herald of Sescheron? What do you get when you take a Prime Evil and banish him IN A SANCTUARY THAT TREATS HIM LIKE A LOOTBOX?"
It's pretty good for the most part particularly the prime evils look great, but Marius seems so expressionless in this remake compared to the original. Call it nostalgia or whatever you want, but honestly i still prefer the original cut scenes.
Looks amazing, though the original hellgate with the tar faces was more creepy to me. And Baal didn't do the cool thing where he silences his own echo. Dunno why they removed that, I always thought was extremely badass...
@@barryschalkwijk9388 I mean the gesture is pretty visible. 23:39 Also the gesture can be more subtle because the technology is better, so the animators can make softer animations without them becoming blurry and not visible.

The hd improvement is just an icing on the cake. Marius' voice is still the cake for me.
Tal Rasha looked like Mr. Magoo
lmaoooooooooo
Shout out to the worldstone no longer looking like it was made of wood when it explodes.
Although his footsteps landing then, pause, followed by sinking into the bones as they crush under his feet is a nice touch.

DIABLO WALKS THE EARTH
you sound like Mac from it’s always sunny talking to the therapist about how he used to be a monster as big as a skyscraper
Really a testament to how outstanding the sound design was for this game. Original audio syncs perfectly with modern animation.
Well, not perfectly. I think this aspect could have been tuned more. Still, it's not bad by any means.
It’s more realistic than the original, I get to see how Baal killed Marius, by stabbing his head with tentacles.
I love the HD graphics but Marius and Baal's gestures are toned down in the remaster.
Agreed. They don't quite match the voiceovers.

@@pistool1 Very well put
No, same game , but we are changed ,
I still prefer the old ones. I don't care much about "graphical fidelity", and more about artistical merit. Sure, art is subjective. And I can only give my opinion (subjective perspective) on it. So:
I think that except of the epilogue, Marius got kinda ruined because of the lack of expression.
And now, the things that I think got really improved:
Tal Rasha, Mephisto and Baal looks UNBELIAVABLY good.
Act 4 has always been my favorite Cinematic and they made this even more epic with modern cinematics.
The background voices building up when marius wanted to give Baal the stone is just as terrifying as i remember
ruclips.net/channel/UCkr9dxEEOmopQyX6rYZRVvQ
I always loved that detail too. As though the inmates are not merely mad, just aware of things we cannot see
They did remove one line "Look at what they've done to me"
Baal’s slow walk as he left Marius’ cell, as opposed to the more menacing walk in the original, is balanced out by the more forceful expression when shouting “enough!”
So good.
Yeah... I remember him walking with urgency like he was on a mission. This one made me LOL
Honestly, I don't even think he needs to be menacing while walking into a cell of a broken man. He's enjoying himself, having fun, just living in the moment, all while literally trolling a tortured old man which to me feels even more evil.
ENOUGH
Even now. Years later. I still shake my head at Marius in disappointment when he kicks the camel for dying on them. Dick move Marius. Dick move.
This is partly why his death is not anything but karma for his ass lol
Hahah
still...feel sorry for Marius when Baal puts him at rest, and watch him collapse onto the floor like that...you can all feel for him when he (a mere frail mortal) pissed his pants when tried to enter the portal into the burning hells. (though so did he when he removed the soulstone from Baal/Tal Rasha anyways)...so yeah, Baal just put him to rest with that insta kill move :)
That’s what he did to “deserve this”.
Marius: What have I done to deserved this!?
Spirit of Aidan: You kicked the camel.

@@ellb99314 It doesn't surprise me, too bad they ended up butchering one of the most hyped up remakes that people wanted.
These new cinematics are next level awesome! One thing I realized and never questioned though: why did they extend the bridge to Baal when he arrived in Act 5? Surely that is not a great idea lol.

Though I have to say I liked the way the crystal splintered into those needle-like fragments in the original a bit more than the new chunkier pieces.
When I was younger, I always thought the splintering made it look as if it was made by wood.
The original wings are sooo much cooler though, and just better animated in general. And who is to say that they are not like that because of the presence of the world-stone?
I assumed the giant wings were just cause he was gathering such a ludicrous amount of power or something, since he was prepping to blow up the stone

And the World Stone actually shatters into small shards, rather than wooden splinters like in the original D2 lol
100% appreciate and thanks for uploading the cinematics. I will compare again and again between the old and remastered version.
I feel like that kinda gave him that other-worldly godlike feel and they took it away :(
Nit picky things but yeah still very impressive and nice to see.
Baal's facial expressions and gestures are actually drastically toned down in this new LoD intro cinematic. I prefer the cheekier shit-eating grin and flamboyance that the Baal in the old LoD intro cinematic had.
I also absolutely hate the design of Tyrael. It just looks goofy.
I'm disappointed because they removed Baal's body gestures so instead of expressing his eccentric character on the very first up close shot, he looks instead like a bored demon. I missed him silencing the echos with just the snap of a finger, and feels odd that they would draw the bridge to an army of demons.
This is so much better than movies i have seen in years.
Most cutscenes are amazing. Especially the last two. But they tend to cut away often at good, gory, and more cinematic stuff like
Act3 Tyrael's white/shiny/blurry delirious speech at Marius
Act4 Wanderer's skin being rip asunder from within.
Epilogue's Diablo body exploding/gibbing, Baal's walking off the burning asylum at slow-mo *and low FPS*
Act5 Emisary's eardrums bleeding, and Baal's army charge.
Act 4 the ground shaking as Diablo walked to the portal was also removed!

As much as i love these remastered cinematics i don't like one thing about them. Tyrael looks here like in diablo 3, i know it's still an amazing design but in original diablo 2 you could feel that he's a being from different realm, like everytime he was present he was very blurry and he's wings seemed to have no end. You could feel that he didn't belong there
"I should've known that you'd travel in disguise.. They're... They're always watching..."
My favourite line
Dumb ass me always thought he said traveled in the skies 🤣
Diablo true form - The strongest zergling
22:15 - why on earth did they activate the bridge?!! Did they not see the army outside their gates was comprised of demons?!!
2:32 "Hey you want someting" guy needs to be a fucking meme.
I just finnished the game on normal. Had to come here to watch the cutscenes again because they were so badass
You done good lad
Vicarious Visions* not Blizzard.
Any glory or critisism about this game should go directly to them, not Blizzard.
i noticed that too, no idea
"like a thousand neeeddleesss in my heaaarttttt" what a delivery goddan
Love the cinematics, they really did a great job!!
Although Mephisto's lack of mouth movement is really screwing it up when you look at him..
I was 6 back then
My father doesn't know how to use a computer or mobile phone.
holly awesome this is phenomenal ART
22:26
Left hand skeleton carrying Baal's throne looks an AWFUL lot like Pindleskin.....
Same helm.
That’s an awesome touch!
they removed the minotaurs -_-
The other inmates in the insane asylum becoming increasingly incensed as the stone was given to baal was an incredible touch
A few things I noticed:
1.I like how the intro cinematic gives off a slightly different feel to Marius then the original.
Whereas there he was fidgety and shaking to give off the feeling of someone who was on the verge of madness, but forced himself to remain vigilant
Here, he seems like a half-dead, beaten and tired old man keeping himself alive out of obligation to guard the soulstone , even if it is draining what little strength he has left
2.In the act 3 cinematic, I like that they slowed down the fight between Diablo and Tyrael, to make it seem that Tyrael wasn't just wasting time swinging wildly but was actually going for the kill and would have succeeded if Marius hadn't pulled out the soulstone
3.In the Act 4 Cinematic, I felt like it wasn't as epic as the original cause the screams of the damned souls are basically inaudible most of the time, plus they added more sound effects to Mephisto's voice which honestly took away from how good his voice actor's performance is (the voice of Grandpa Max from Ben 10 ironically)
4.In the epilogue, I feel like the model didn't quite match the pain and anguish the voice actor was portraying ( 60's Batman's Riddler, no really, look it up)
Whereas in the original this was a lot better as he was fidgeting , drooling etc
5.And in the LoD cinematic where we see Baal for the first time in his real form, if you look at his face you'll notice that its the skin of Tal'Rasha's face torn and stretched from his transformation.
You can even see the line where it ends, leatherface style
And its a nice piece of characterization too, cause it shows how petty Baal is.
He is literally wearing the face of the man who helped imprison him out of spite, even tho his soul is long gone
6.And in the final cinematic there's a slight stutter at the very beginning, likely a reference to how the original was
good observations!
"The YEEVIL...the YEEVIL is coming..."
To this day I have never encountered Yeevil in this game.
Really well made, gets a 9.5/10 from me.
Not а fan of some of the changes, but overall pretty faithful
same. maybe just because I watched the originals a few 1000 times, but some of the facial expressions are missing or not as I would have made them.
The nicest thing about this remaster is that baal actually has a face now
That one guy who says hey whats up meh. He is my favorite
It's pretty good for the most part particularly the prime evils look great, but Marius seems so expressionless in this remake compared to the original. Call it nostalgia or whatever you want, but honestly i still prefer the original cut scenes.
I like the fifth cutscene from the original better than this one. It’s feels like they sucked all the feeling out of it.
You are right and i have read that from many other people too. He is almost totally without expression on his face. Very dull looking.
Not just that, the lip sync is worse.
Look what the stone has done to me 😐
Looks amazing, though the original hellgate with the tar faces was more creepy to me.
And Baal didn't do the cool thing where he silences his own echo. Dunno why they removed that, I always thought was extremely badass...
So true! I totally forgot about that!
But he did silence it! Look at his fingers, he did the "cut throat" gesture like "that's enough" and it silenced the echo.
@@TheHalogen131 on third viewing i did see a few frames that allude to it, but his fingers don't nearly articulate the same.
@@barryschalkwijk9388 I mean the gesture is pretty visible. 23:39 Also the gesture can be more subtle because the technology is better, so the animators can make softer animations without them becoming blurry and not visible.
amazing story, animation and narration
I wonder if blizzard purposely put the ole stutters in there for the ending of Act 5. Feels like I was back on my ole late 90's computer struggle bussing through videos and gameplay.
ikr XD
Yes! the framerate is definitely lowered for that one.
Yeah man I didn't need the lag feels
Might be just this upload/youtube
If I recall, the wonderer is actually who you played in Diablo 1
The Dark Wanderer is the warrior, Blood Raven is the rogue, and The Summoner is the sorcerer.
It is, his name is Prince Aidan, the eldest son of King Leoric.
