Your words ring true and sad. Absolutely, I just hope that the acquisition might spur some old IPs coming back. One can hope. Hope all is well with you!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios nah paying so much money this IP will never again get into the hands of a small group of talented people There will be too many cooks, just with any other high value IP these days
OG Vanilla WoW had that. In my opinion anyways. Their cutscenes and storytelling were still out of this world then and had not started outsourcing any of it yet
keyword: Chris Metzen they were trying to pull him back like last year but still to no avail, he is not the same anymore, something in him broke in Covid period
As a kid, my favorite memory of Starcraft was Tassadar's speech right before steering into the Ganthritor. As an adult, my favorite moment in Starcraft is the Amerigo cinematic. "We're all dead! Blow it! BLOW ITTTT...!!!" Chilling.
the Amerigo was my favorite as a kid because cool gun shooty BOOOOM. my favorite as an adult, and a line that I've repeated hundreds of times throughout my life: "looks like you mashed some poor fellers dog, sarge..."
@@vacuumsleeve haha, great cinematic! I also love DuGalle's final speech before his Battlecruiser is caught up on by the zerg at the very end of the BW campaign
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this, I truly appreciate it! Oh yeah, especially after defeating the Overmind and going.. That's not it!?!!? Plus the cinematic and the year plus wait for Brood War.. Gosh I might just start playing now.. And Amerigo is just fantastic, I always thought it was sad they never got to drink one of those cold fusion beers, what a neat little idea. Hope this finds you well! All the best, Dog Dad
I found a StarCraft shareware in one of my dad's CDs in the 2000's. Have been a fan since then and I still play it until this day. What a gem of a game.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this, I truly appreciate it! What's your favorite race to play as and what has kept you coming back over the years?
I started playing when I was 12 and now I'm 36, i dont play as much as i did but i watch Falcon Paladin & Artosis cast games everyday, not just an amazing game but a true work of art that has engraved itself in my soul
That’s fantastic, I have some games on when I’m grinding RuneScape ahaha. I completely agree and thank you so much for taking the time to write this! Hope all is well
A lot of lore questions you have were answered in the game manual that came with the game in 1998. Back then there was only so much memory space so the lore dumps were kept in the manuals.
Thank you! How did I not think about that? I still have my manual for Warcraft 3 battle chest somewhere around here. It’s a great point, especially since games took so long to download, it was a great addition to be able to read about what you’re about to play. Thanks for taking the time to write this. What was your favorite lore dump from a manual?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios i cant remember wich ones but the first 3 were Tiberian Dawn Red Alert 1 and Tib sun. (i also had WC2 as the first blizzard RTS) if i had been introduced to stacraft first my prefrences when it comes to RTS games would have been diffrent such as what button to make units move left or right click also what i would be used to would be diffrent such as factions being diffrent from the very beggining instead of being the same in the basics but when you get more advanced stuff it becomes more and more diffrent also the nostolgia for starcraft would help it score first place had i played it first i would also have played it alot more had it been on my original windows 7 pc instead of the 3 westwood games
Having grown up in that era, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that they prefer C&C over StarCraft. Command and Conquer is an all time great, but the only thing that it has over StarCraft is Tim Curry.
@@smeagle3295 well id like to argue that thats up to personal opinion wether or not tim curry is the only upside personally i see at least a few more upsides to CNC 1. inf max units so that you can build as large an army as you want no population cap 2. the music frank klepaci did an amazing job with the music in the games he worked on while it may not be as fitting to each faction like it is in starcraft i prefer listening to it 3.kane (joe kucan) 4. infinitely regenerating resources this combined with the prevoius one with no unit cap makes the game really fun if you just wanna chill and turtle up my preffered strat is just build a few high tech defense turrets and watch the ai die over and over as i build the biggest army known to man 5.this one dosent count as an upside if you count the EA stuff past RA3 and its is the amount of games in the franchise 6. the early games do not have the same limitation as Starcraft 1 where you can only select 16 units
I played starcraft as a kid and wasn't very good for a long time. I played maps like fastest possible and 3v3s. It wasn't till one day after playing for 6 years already I found a replay of Boxer and my whole approach to the game changed entirely. I instantly got A LOT better learning little tricks.. then I played wc3 frozen Throne where I learned about micro and hot keys. So I returned to starcrft years later once remastered came out and became pretty good. I watch professional replays from Flash and Jaedong and others.. my APM is around 230 at the moment. My understanding of timings and strategies still grows everyday over 20 years later.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! Wow, I loved fastest 3v3s, what a wild time ( flash back to playing protoss and making rows of pylons and gateways spamming dragoons, the best of time! That's incredible APM; I wish I could do that, maybe I would get 140 in SC2 (I think) back 10 years ago, but sadly as I grow older RTS are becoming harder to be better at. That's why I play DOTA seldomly. What race do you play for SC1? Do you have a favorite moment from the campaign? Hope this finds you well.
My favorite childhood memory is playing a SC mod called Gundam Century. I was bad at the game, and I regularly lost normal skirmishes but somehow playing with massive mechanized units was ridiculously fun for my 7-8 year old brain.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I truly appreciate it! Was it a full mod or a custom game online? I remember being confused about so many except for FASTEST possible/ tank defense, which I sunk so many hours into. Sadly I couldn’t find it when I played for the retrospective. I hope you’re doing well and again I appreciate this comment so much! Cherishing those memories is something special.
Came into RTS genre like a year ago looking to step out of my comfort zone with Command nad Conquer remastered and immediately looked for other RTS gems after falling in love with C&C, after playing Starcraft 1 and Broodwar have to say it's my favorite RTS and I have still not found a better one. Thank you for this video!
My favorite memories of starcraft are just multiple LAN sessions with my father, brother, and a random smattering of our friends. once we played 4v1 and my father still killed us all. it was so fun, and we were so bad at it. but like i was in elementary school when we started playing it
Starcraft was one of the first online multiplayer games I ever played, the other being Diablo. Those were pretty much the only options on a 28k dialup modem. As a result, I played an ungodly amount of it. The singleplayer campaign was incredible as well, of course. Every soundbyte and cinematic are permanently etched into my mind. I take it we're in the same midlennial age group so you've pretty much extracted my exact thoughts on the game with this video. Good stuff
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment and share it with the community! I completely agree, I played a lot of games at this time, but there is something so specific and vivid about the visuals that too are etched into my memories. I appreciate that last sentiment more than you know, and I hope to reach more people around our age to be able to share their memories and feelings towards these games. It's so much fun to hear everyone's specific experiences/ stories surrounding these games and times. I hope this finds you well! Is there one moment from Starcraft that really stuck with you all these years? All the best, Dog Dad
As a kid, I remember being 5 to 7 years old playing with my father and brother trying to get the units to actually follow my commands without clipping through the map Great times
What i always loved about SC1 was that the player had their own character and all the major characters would brief you in the mission room it was so cool
My uncle that barely knew me got me starcraft and brood war combo pack for my birthday back in the day. I barely even played video games back then. But since we lived in the middle of nowhere I ended up playing these games CONSTANTLY. I now look back at them as a huge part of my childhood. Wings of liberty came out as I was graduating high school. I never did get to play legacy of the void because I was saving up for my marriage but when that archon said power overwhelming in the trailer I was pointing at the laptop and soy facing like in the meme lol after watching your video I now have to boot up starcraft after I get the kiddo to bed
The first RTS I have ever played when I Didn't even had a computer but went to cyber cafe internet. I saw everyone playing that game. I barely knew ho to use a computer but then one day desided to learn it and ever since loved it
The openning you show was actually from brood wars, the original openning was the footage of guys recovery salvage in space and then dying shortly after
Thank you for taking the time to write this. I believe I say this in the video, since I’m playing the remastered version and this is the default intro with that, or that was my experience. Hope all is well!
My introduction to Starcraft is a little silly. At the time I didn't own a copy of the game and I was playing mostly Warcraft 2. Money was tight growing up so new games were generally not an option. During the 2000s there was a really large scene for flash games. There was a tower defense game that was based around using sunken colonies and Zerg defenses against waves of protoss. This was obviously an unlicensed game that was just inspired by the setting. from there I downloaded the demo missions which i played over and over for months. Back then RUclips wasn't really a thing much less playthroughs of the game. I love reading anything I could about it and remember checking out a copy of the manual at the local library from the magazine section someone had donated. Much later in life with adult money I jump back into Starcraft 2 when Wings of Liberty was announced and then it was a match made in heaven.
Thank you so much for writing this, I truly appreciate you sharing this not only with me, but with others. Its always amazing to hear other's stories, especially how they started out with franchises. I'm so glad you got the chance to play WoL, and I'm so excited to replay it again for the channel soon. What was one of your favorite things that you read back then? I love the local library part, I remember ours in NYC had magazines, including Game Informer and PC Magazine. Hope all is well, and truly thank you, I can't convey it any other way : )
@@SilverKnightPCsI had a pirated copy of starcraft brood war, it was my favourite game and think that it was maybe the first game I ever played, but when I was bored I was searching on the internet starcraft and that flash game was one of the first results, also I remeber one that was like pokemon
I haven’t played in ages and before my laptop finally cooked out, I found my StarCraft and thought damn, let’s go back in. I played through the first and through to legacy of the void. God I loved every second.
I always liked to think the overmind let Kerrigan loose knowing he didnt have his own willpower so he made a leader for the zerg who would and who works within the limits of his programing
I remember when this game first came out. I knew nothing about it. I saw it on the shelf at Wal-Mart. I said, "Warcraft was good, so this has to be good too. I remember in elementary school hoping for Starcraft 2. Little did I know, I'd have to wait until i graduated from university. I have mixed feelings on the remaster. I guess they wanted to allign it with Starcraft 2 visuals. There is something about old school developers and coders. They had passion. My grandfather born 1935 was a programmer, not for games, but other types of software. He did enjoy games though. Nothing can match the passion old programmers had. I see huge differences between programmers today and people like my grandfather. Most new programmers do it for money and nothing else. On a side note, i posted this comment to the wrong channel on a video about a 100 year old woman from 1979. I was supposed to post it last night 😂
Howdy and thank you so much for taking the time to write your comment, I truly appreciate you sharing all of this! Wow, that's really cool about your grandfather, what type of software did he code for? I enjoyed the remasters graphics on a whole, but yeah there was some egregious misses.. Also being able to go back to the 90's graphics was a great touch that blizzard has done with almost all of their remasters, so you can see the true brilliance from those developers and coders that, as you say, had the passion. I hope this finds you well! Thanks for stopping by!
@Dog.Dad.Studios Grandfather worked on databases for companies like keeping track of inventory and prices. When I would play a game like GTA 3, he would always tell me to appreciate it since someone had to program everything you see. He introduced me to gaming with Wolfenstine 3D. I loved that game. However, to be honest, Doom is far superior. It's difficult to go back. I have a hard time returning to some older games GTA3, for example, because Vice City is so much better. Then you have games like Starcraft. I like Starcraft 2, but I prefer the original.
I learned of the SC2 announcement on my graduation day, and the day after I was broken up with. It helped me get up and keep going. As of today, I've been married 16 years.
I just played the campaing through for the first time and I really loved it. There is something special about the old classics. The gameplay was great even if pathfinding and unit ai is ifuriating sometimes. I played it as a kid too but then I got stuck in one of the protoss missions. Best memory for me back then was spamming nukes as terran :). Now as an adult I mainly used more sensible siege tank and Goliath approach.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! Absolutely, I’m so glad you had a chance to play again. Yes the pathing with the level design could have me screaming, that’s why I also love siege tanks ahaha, the slow push.. hope all is well!
The overmind was created by Amon in order to subjugate the Primal Zerg, on the same note Amon was also the xelnaga who revealed himself to the protoss in order to give them the Kahla, so Amon could subjugate the protoss as well.
I think starcraft was the very first science fiction thing I ever got into, I can't think of how many years I used to draw Marines and power armor, think about three races one being bugged like one being an absolute badasses but to an old dying empire and of course humanity constantly just fighting for scraps of the universe
It's definitely the game I played the most in the 90's. I was a fan of Warcraft II before this, and I remember people talking about the upcoming "spin-off". I also remember downloading the demo (which took all day of course), and as soon as I had installed I called my friend so that he could come over and play, only to hear he had just purchased the full game. Luckily this was one of those games where you could install the full version, start it up and then remove the CD, while the game continued to be playable. So we could start the game on both of our computers with one CD and then play each other online. This game was king at my local internet café as well (along with Quake, Red Alert, Age of Empires).
35:55 Welp, the issue is that you can start with the protoss campaign at any moment as the only thing preventing you was a warning pop-up saying "pwwese don't do it, it's gonna be hard without the others completed", so it kinda makes sense.
what i love about the protoss are the voice overall.. every unit has very unique voice lines and i remember spending hours not playing the game properly, rather just clicking on each protoss unit to hear all of their voice lines especially the secret ones.. 🤣 my favorite lines will always be corsair’s “it is a good day to die” and artanis’ “direct my wrath!”.. 😁
I remember playing this on my friend's dad's PC. It's actually one of the earliest games I fell in love with the lore of. The first 3 were Pokemon, Zelda, and StarCraft, all of which strangely enough had one of their most important releases in '98. SC was also the first game I played online. I played a lot of TD, Special Forces, Cat and Mouse, and any other weird mode, such as Grocery Store Wars. The announcement of SC2 even greeted me the day of my graduation, and the day after I got broken up with. I ended up marrying the girl a year later anyways, and we've been married 16 years as of today. It's the only game I ever bought 3 times, and it would have been 4 times if I hadn't had been short on funds during the SC2 release. The collector's edition came with the first game on a USB, along with the ingame sountrack on a vinyl record.
For any who haven’t tried it yet, I recommend the StarCraft Mass Recall mod for SC2. It puts the entire SC1 and BW campaigns into SC2. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but worth experiencing
Starcraft 64 was my first ever video game purchase when I was a young teenager in 2001. I remember playing it at Blockbuster, and I was attracted to the game straight away. I found a random video store selling a copy for $50. I started refereeing basketball games back then, which were $5 a game. I managed to save up $50, and I caught a bus after school the next day and purchased Starcraft 64. Unfortunately, over the years, I never took care of my things and somehow lost the cartridge 🥺. I'll always love this game!
Nice video! The retrospective made me nostalgic but also sad. It's unfortunate that modern Blizzard probably wont be able to make something of this quality ever again. SC2 while having great gameplay had none of the writing, worldbuilding or atmosphere that SC1 did. Time for me to go find a copy of old starcraft and play through the campaign again
34:39 the overmind used his warp travel (he used before in the campaign to travel to aiur) to launch himself into aïur through a meteorite. I didn't get that at all when I was a kid but when I replayed it as an adult I finally understood those big tendrils are the overmind at the end lol
It’s one of the most enjoyable things about this ( playing older games) where I’m just like, oh that makes complete sense and I was a dunce back in the day ahahah! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Hope all is well
Thank you not only for the subscription, but also taking the time to write this. I needed this energy ( feeling a bit down). Hope all is well! All the best, Dog Dad
Just beat the original campaign yesterday and going to be moving on to brood war, Starcraft is a title I have to come back and play every few years, gonna be giving some of the custom campaigns such as Enslavers a go after Broodwar.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios FUCK SPELLCASTERS when the AI spams them. How can I have my big battle cruiser fantasy when fucking ghosts cause me to have to take double what I plan on taking along with Science vessels to try and kill them before 1 ghosts results in the downfall of 3 BCS each. Obviously the answer is add infantry to the mix, but muh BBC fantasies must be fulfilled. Also a special place exists in hell for defilers when you are Protoss or Zerg.
I was a big C&C fan. My friends kept telling me that Starcraft was the far better game. I didnt start playing until early 99 or 00 but I was hooked after.
Personally, my favorite was the Retaliation version on Playstation. Linked ours and the neighbors ps and spent many nights battling with him, my brother, and my cousins.
Got StarCraft on a burned CDR back in middle school. After school we’d all meet up in channel aaa1 on battlenet to play with randoms then un-ally and stomp them. I vividly remember playing my friends older brother (considered the best in our friend group) 1v1. I was Zerg, he was a turtling Terran. Several of our friends were observers in the game. I played macro and overran him with hydralisks and guardians. I felt like I won the GSL lol. Good times.
Random thing and the reason i love blizzard rts games is the little things like i think it was in one if you click on a Marine enough he'll say "i vote we frag this commander" or, in Warcraft 3 if you click on the undead acolyte (i think thats what they were called? The base collector unit) he'll say "my life for ire, i,i mean nezul" like just the funny little things they put in are just perfect lol
Starcraft has always been with me since my youth, my father introduced it to me and I loved it ever since. However, he introduced me to Starcraft 2, not Starcraft 1, I’ve always loved the campaign, and custom campaigns too, I’ve played through 3 player versions with all my friends and now I run Coop with them all the time. When the cartoony starcrafts was released, i instantly bought it, played 1 mission, and the sucky pathing pushed me away. Fast forward years later, I’ve beat Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars, and now I might give Starcraft 1 a second chance gameplay wise. I’ve always been interested in the lore so this video was extremely entertaining
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m about to finish StarCraft II for the retrospective and came in with no expectations, which was great because the game was awesome that way! I always loved it back in the day too! I would play the original! It’s really cool and some hard mechanics for the time, but if you get it down, it’s so rewarding!
I love it! Best game of all time is tricky since genres make it hard to synthesize on a grand level; but on a personal level, I can see this 1000%, from the characters to the lore, from the gameplay to the mechanics, Starcraft to put it simply, is fantastic. Thanks for stopping by, I hope this finds you well!
I played StarCraft when i was still in Elementary and thought the second third mission of Terran was the hardest thing ever. I fell in love that day, and i cried when I learned of StarCraft II. Which i love, my favorite faction was UED, those mfer came in with junk equipment, beat back 3 races, took out Mengsk, James, Queen of Blades and did it within the year. Lol
You too? Now that mission is super easy. Oddly enough, I had the same reaction to SC2. I was going thru a lot. Oddly enough, today marks the 16th year married to the girl who broke up with me the day before I learned of SC2, and I can't shut up about it.😅
The Zerg have taken everything from me, my home, my family, my friends. I know nothing I do can bring those things back, but I’ll be dammed if I just sit on my hands and wait for the end. I want a piece of um alright. I’m in. I think about that line a lot for some reason
I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video, get to that moment and take the time to comment. I think you’re 1000% right and it makes me so sad. I hope one day we can get back to those longer days, or at least have the option for both, like Dota’s turbo. Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate you!
I never played starcraft, but as a huge fan of halo and it's lore, Alien, Predator, and other scifi fiction it's a game series I have purchased and want to dive into alongside the likes of Mass Effect and Warhammer 40k, also games I've never played. I'm a sucker for sci-fi/space opera universes, so I am excited to listen to this video.
I cannot express over text how excited I am for you to experience these worlds and universe. To hear about the Imperium’s civil war, or command Captain Shepard not only as he, but humanity rise to prevalence in the galaxy, are moments and lore that I consider to be like Shakespeare, Shelley, Homer or Bryon. Halo has fantastic lore, and making the retrospective on CE, has it squarely in my top 5 games of all time. I can’t wait to hear what your thoughts are on those universes and more! There are some epics out there! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, and I hope you enjoy the video. Wishing you all the best. Dog dad
@Dog.Dad.Studios Thank you so much for the response. I listened to this video, then listened to Brood War and am not going to lie. I was a little dissapointed to not see Starcraft 2 already up. I enjoyed the Brood War video just as much. Halo sort of saddens me with how little of its universe is utilized for videogames. 25 years of human covenant conflict, tales from the Covenant before meeting humanity, a mil sim game where you play as Chief on tactical missions leading Blue Team, a rainbow six styled tactical campaign with odsts, a larger scale strategy game based on naval fleet space combat. These are just a few ideas I've had about how Halo can be used in games. I don't think the mass player base would play anything besides an fps, though, so these smaller projects won't ever happen. Halo wars not having a single player campaign for covenant or flood was beyond disappointing. By the time we get to Halo wars 2 from what I have seen, the banished and unsc play very similarly to each other. The strength of other rts like Starcraft is that all the factions play distinctly different from each other, making them more interesting. Halo Infinite made me give up on the franchise for a while, with a half-baked campaign and promised dlc story content canceled. Rumored new projects just being remakes of the original trilogy. Halo isn't offering me anything right now despite all the expanded universe material they could use. This has led me to want to explore other sci-fi universes like Starcraft, Mass Effect, and Warhammer 40k. Thank you for your time and responding to my comment, I hope you have a great day/night.
Absolutely! What is life for, if not finding commonality and sharing of experiences. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my content; ahah StarCraft 2 will come soon.. Oh Halo Wars was a lot of fun, and I would have loved to see a campaign from the covenant and flood. That's weird that they didn't add that since that's a pretty classic "trio" RTS trope. Yeah you're going to have so much fun reading up on everything, especially 40k which has a lot written about it, and is so dark and epic that I can't comprehend the scale of the universe. I also like Dead Space 1 and 2, they did a good job at certain things. I look forward to hearing how you feel about these certain games/universes, and StarCraft 2 hopefully by the end of August. Wishing you the same. All the best, Dog Dad
@@Dog.Dad.Studios if I had to pick probably Zerg Lurker, I love the concept and sprite matches it. Almost all for Zerg look better to me than in the remaster graphics. They tried too hard to make them look like they do in Starcraft 2(example is hydralisk sprites and little face icon when selected) which in itself isn't bad but I like SC1 designs more, also stuff like Terran troops looking less like plastic soldier toys in original instead of remastered glossy high contrast look. More or less not big problems but I hate how the ground looks in remaster, they tried too hard I feel and it looks nothing like originals floor, Zerg creep is the worst bc it's really ugly with all the gloss and brightness.
I'm honestly thinkin that the little voice over of Mengsk at 23:05 where it sounds like the Overmind underneath him speaking, might be a very subtle allusion to the idea that Mengsk is being psychically influenced by the Overmind.
Ohh. There we go! This is what I’m here for! I love this thought process and would be so down for an overmind takeover scenario that still doesn’t pan out! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios yeah, and I'm almost thinking that the overmind manipulated Mengsk into the rebellion because he knew in the long game that mengsk would contribute to his program to combine the protoss and the zerg, not even that the overmind wanted to take over through Mengsk necessarily. In other words I think the overminds plan actually worked flawlessly.
Unless you are going for as much nostalgia as possible, I recommend everyone skipping the Remastered version and going for Mass Recal. It is complete remake of Starcraft 1 in Starcraft 2 by fans. You only need the free S2 version from Battlenet to install the remake and it´s fantastic.
This, age of empires/mythology, red alert, anything with a single player and some time, you can get into the RTS genre. I think it’s worth it, but I’m heavily biased having grown up on the genre. Hope you’re doing well!
Please tell me my American friend with “Swedish” decent wasn’t lying when he told me people in Sweden say “Oofta” ahahaha? Thanks for taking the time to comment and such kind words : ) hope all is well
@@Dog.Dad.Studios well we if you mean "ofta" then yes he would be correct. The word literally means often but tends to be used (predominantly by young people) to express surprise or distrust on a situation / topic.
@@skogen5357 oh dude no worries, that’s the beautiful thing about the process, it’s always going. And the trends seem to be up! Regardless, I’m perfectly amazed by the conversations I’m having already so I take that to my heart. All the best, Dog dad
Yes, and I think its why Games Workshop now holds its IP's very close, and has made it a point to create from their franchise; they've made so many games! I'm jealous ahah. Hope all is well!
I remember playing as a kid. My parents had just got us a new computer and the guy thay built it copied a few games for us. One of them was starcraft. My friends had all already played it and i was so excited after hearing about it from them. Wheb i finally got to play i was completely enthralled. I love scifi so seeing the terrans protoss and zerg under my control was just incredible. Also, damn man, it never hit me as a kid just how horrible Arcturus is
Thank you so much for sharing this! And yes, the characters change as we grow older! Very interesting to have nostalgia and then an adult brain to think about the game ahah. Hope all is well! Wishing you the best!
I have to say though that unfortunately the direction for their cutscenes got markedly worse after Warcraft 3. I think some of that was already there to a degree even then and it was very obvious in Wings of Liberty, which generally suffered from surprisingly bad storytelling. But a lot of it seemed intentional. I think part of it is just that their target audience had changed at that point.
Grand strategy with just 3 factions doesn’t sound like something that would work very well though. The other route would be 2.5 protoss factions, 1 Zerg faction with feral Zerg, and 2 Terran factions with one controlling possibly half the map.
@@kakyoinpepsi5694 Ehh, they would have to split some of the races up, but that's in the lore. There are different Swarms, Tribes, and Governments for each race. I could definitely see each having their own unique styles of gameplay.
@kakyoinpepsi5694 they got more smaller factions if you pay attention to the lore, each color has a specific brood, tribe and faction name when you chrcj the scoreboard. So that's at least 8 sub groups for each main group if you just go off of SC1
I love SC for its lore and variety, but I'm prettybad at it and I wish the remasted had touched the AI to make it more lenient towards causal players like myself. Age of Empires 2 did rewrite its AI and it became more managable. Also the pathing problems, yeah. I wish they had toggles for a kinder AI and better pathing. As toggles, it wouldn't affect the competitive scene.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios From this day forward, let no human make war upon any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning. And let no man consort with alien powers. And to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way. For we shall win through, NO MATTER THE COST!
Ugh Jims icon loses her personality and Kerrigan is so over designed. God, i miss old Blizzard. I always wanted a Game of Thrones like show based in Starcraft but i doubt Blizxard can be trusted to guarentee quality. I remember my friends dad showing me starcraft when I was like 11 I was hooked instantly 😅
Blizzard never again managed to bring the same kind of atmosphere. And modern Blizzard is a dead corpse corp
Your words ring true and sad. Absolutely, I just hope that the acquisition might spur some old IPs coming back. One can hope. Hope all is well with you!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios nah paying so much money this IP will never again get into the hands of a small group of talented people
There will be too many cooks, just with any other high value IP these days
Yes, but , the SC multiplyer scene is currently very much alive and well , depsite zero involvement from Blizzard for at least around a decade
OG Vanilla WoW had that. In my opinion anyways. Their cutscenes and storytelling were still out of this world then and had not started outsourcing any of it yet

they were trying to pull him back like last year but still to no avail, he is not the same anymore, something in him broke in Covid period

As a kid, my favorite memory of Starcraft was Tassadar's speech right before steering into the Ganthritor. As an adult, my favorite moment in Starcraft is the Amerigo cinematic. "We're all dead! Blow it! BLOW ITTTT...!!!"
Chilling.
the Amerigo was my favorite as a kid because cool gun shooty BOOOOM. my favorite as an adult, and a line that I've repeated hundreds of times throughout my life: "looks like you mashed some poor fellers dog, sarge..."
@@vacuumsleeve haha, great cinematic! I also love DuGalle's final speech before his Battlecruiser is caught up on by the zerg at the very end of the BW campaign

Great question to ask! Which command and conquer did you start out with? And why do you think it would have been your favorite if introduced first?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios i cant remember wich ones but the first 3 were Tiberian Dawn Red Alert 1 and Tib sun. (i also had WC2 as the first blizzard RTS)
if i had been introduced to stacraft first my prefrences when it comes to RTS games would have been diffrent such as what button to make units move left or right click also what i would be used to would be diffrent such as factions being diffrent from the very beggining instead of being the same in the basics but when you get more advanced stuff it becomes more and more diffrent also the nostolgia for starcraft would help it score first place had i played it first i would also have played it alot more had it been on my original windows 7 pc instead of the 3 westwood games

Having grown up in that era, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that they prefer C&C over StarCraft. Command and Conquer is an all time great, but the only thing that it has over StarCraft is Tim Curry.
@@smeagle3295 well id like to argue that thats up to personal opinion wether or not tim curry is the only upside personally i see at least a few more upsides to CNC
1. inf max units so that you can build as large an army as you want no population cap
2. the music frank klepaci did an amazing job with the music in the games he worked on while it may not be as fitting to each faction like it is in starcraft i prefer listening to it
3.kane (joe kucan)
4. infinitely regenerating resources this combined with the prevoius one with no unit cap makes the game really fun if you just wanna chill and turtle up my preffered strat is just build a few high tech defense turrets and watch the ai die over and over as i build the biggest army known to man
5.this one dosent count as an upside if you count the EA stuff past RA3 and its is the amount of games in the franchise
6. the early games do not have the same limitation as Starcraft 1 where you can only select 16 units
Love this game so much my text tone is "reciving incoming transmission"
Haha, same. And "hailing frequencies open" for calls.

My favorite memories of starcraft are just multiple LAN sessions with my father, brother, and a random smattering of our friends.
once we played 4v1 and my father still killed us all. it was so fun, and we were so bad at it. but like i was in elementary school when we started playing it
Thank you so much for sharing this! What was your favorite race to play back then? Hope all is well!
All the best,

As a kid, I remember being 5 to 7 years old playing with my father and brother trying to get the units to actually follow my commands without clipping through the map
Great times

@Dog.Dad.Studios you are correct. You did mention it, I must have missed it during my first watch.
My God, Blizzard even mixed that up. Starcraft 1 was above and beyond Brood War in world building and Brood War was tying up loose ends.

Came back after the wedding to finish the video and holy crap! That arm floating in the Terran campaign cinematic was from the SC1 intro.

@@Dog.Dad.Studios I did. Originally we were going to sneak out during the reception, but we decided to stay for that.

I loved the Protoss for what they were about, but loved the Zerg for the quick, savage gameplay.

I appreciate you sharing this so much! Thank you for taking the time to write this!! Hope you’re doing well : )
35:55 Welp, the issue is that you can start with the protoss campaign at any moment as the only thing preventing you was a warning pop-up saying "pwwese don't do it, it's gonna be hard without the others completed", so it kinda makes sense.
what i love about the protoss are the voice overall.. every unit has very unique voice lines and i remember spending hours not playing the game properly, rather just clicking on each protoss unit to hear all of their voice lines especially the secret ones.. 🤣 my favorite lines will always be corsair’s “it is a good day to die” and artanis’ “direct my wrath!”.. 😁
Thank you so much for sharing this and taking the time to write it! Love those voice lines! Hope all is well!
Thank you so much for sharing these memories! I truly appreciate it! Was the UsB stick something special?

Starcraft 64 was my first ever video game purchase when I was a young teenager in 2001. I remember playing it at Blockbuster, and I was attracted to the game straight away. I found a random video store selling a copy for $50. I started refereeing basketball games back then, which were $5 a game.
Thank you for taking the time to write this, I agree wholeheartedly, and I’m glad that the original is still playable and fun!

It’s those small details back in the day that showed the love the developers had for the games they created. Thanks for sharing this!!
I think it’s not just the best RTS of all time but I would argue the best game of all time (been playing this game since I was 6 I am now 20)
Oddly enough, today marks the 16th year married to the girl who broke up with me the day before I learned of SC2, and I can't shut up about it.😅
UED was of course technologically far superior to what already was in Koprulu sector.
The Zerg have taken everything from me, my home, my family, my friends. I know nothing I do can bring those things back, but I’ll be dammed if I just sit on my hands and wait for the end. I want a piece of um alright. I’m in.
I think about that line a lot for some reason
Fear it fear it.

All the best,
Dog Dad
Mensk was a self centered turn coat with delusions of grandeur.
He played everybody against each other and abandoned Sarah to the Zerg.
Love this game! Just wish I was better at it
Do you play online? Are you having fun playing the game?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I play PvE Mods mostly. I do have fun, but I get frustrated that I'm very bad at microing, specifically with spell casting.
I Love You Sarge!
HOT TAKE: The SCI dialogue in between missions beats all of the SCII cinematics, excluding the opening scenes of course.
The Protoss were my favorites. An Taro Tassadar . Noble. True to the cause. An Taro Aldune.
Thank you for sharing!!
Also yes I agree the remaster graphics seem really off somewhere and that's why I always play on old graphics since the sprites are beautiful
What’s one of your fav sprites?
@@Miki-hk6vy thank you so much for writing this! Truly appreciate you taking the time to beautifully explain your opinion!
Interesting! I’ll look into it! Thank you!
12:40, the more marine you have in the bunker, increases the bunker attack range
I did not know that! Thank you! And thank you for taking the time to comment on multiple videos, means a lot!
It's a flat +1 range. It also affects ghosts.
Starcraft is forever
as o look to expand what type of games i play so maybe ill checj this one , still kinda hard to get into a whole new type of game
This, age of empires/mythology, red alert, anything with a single player and some time, you can get into the RTS genre. I think it’s worth it, but I’m heavily biased having grown up on the genre. Hope you’re doing well!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios i understand . took me a while to get into rts but i love them now
Im sorry but what did you say here exactly? 😂 Im Swedish but i didn't get the reference. Great video btw 13:50
Thank you for explaining this!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Yeah no worries man! Love your vids! Shame that they're not getting more views and recognition cuz they definitely deserve it.
@@skogen5357 oh dude no worries, that’s the beautiful thing about the process, it’s always going. And the trends seem to be up!
Regardless, I’m perfectly amazed by the conversations I’m having already so I take that to my heart.
All the best,
Dog dad
Bunkers add +1 to range. Not sure if it affects firenats, but they do everything else to this day.
Thank you so much legend!
You can still get some in good condition copies on line.
Starcraft is a great game… such a good storyline..
Overshadowed by Warcraft..
Blizzard will never make another game like Starcraft or Warcraft 3.
Sadly I think you’re right
i first started playing sc1 when I was 6 (I'm 18) and i still play the god dam game
so i kinda like it
Fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to comment! What made you get into SC1 back then? Hope all is well!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios oh well it was my family we would play it together in land party's
@@joelforde2213 that’s amazing!!
I have never been able to play a different RTS because the units moved too slow I was spoiled by Starcraft and I don't regret it
Do you still play today? The only thing that’s come close is AoE
@@Dog.Dad.Studios a couple times a year I will load up Starcraft remastered to see what new custom maps people are playing
A fact that little people know is that starcraft was supposed to be a 40k rts the arts style are almost the same
Yes, and I think its why Games Workshop now holds its IP's very close, and has made it a point to create from their franchise; they've made so many games! I'm jealous ahah. Hope all is well!
I never got why Sarah got dreadlocks looking things after being assimilated. Looks goofy as shit. They should've made her more Zerg.
this is the part with the car
Is planet char a gundam reference?
I don’t know but I loved Gundam Wing back in the 90s
id love a sorta Grand Stratgey version of Starcraft like how stellaris is
That would be sick!
@@stephtros9029 that’s what I say : )
starcraft = space horror
diablo = gothic horror
warcraft = fantasy horror
Overwatch = gay panda
tho kerrigan is the reason mengsk father died maybe it was deliberate to let her die there on tarsonis
Love me some AOE, thank you for sharing this : )
@@Dog.Dad.Studios No problem! to be clear, I mean AoE 2 Definitive. It's a great version and has the above perks.
population restriction and mandatory unit grouping is what ruins it
Which game, Star Craft or Star Craft 2 is better?
What are you looking for? StarCraft is my favorite because of the atmosphere, but StarCraft 2 has easier mechanics.
What do you think?
There was a point where I preferred SC2, but at the current build, I like Brood War.
What was everyone's favorite cheat code
Show me the money!
Radio free zerg
Its the worst remaster with the new art and not redoing the cuts and adding in some duck face karagan.. but i loved everything else
You skipped the best part of Mengsk's speech
Which part is did you think was the best?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios From this day forward, let no human make war upon any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning. And let no man consort with alien powers. And to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way. For we shall win through, NO MATTER THE COST!
@ great line, even ironic with what happens in StarCraft 2! Thanks for sharing this!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios thats why Mengsk is so fun
Hes a big old hypocrit
Ugh Jims icon loses her personality and Kerrigan is so over designed. God, i miss old Blizzard. I always wanted a Game of Thrones like show based in Starcraft but i doubt Blizxard can be trusted to guarentee quality.
That said... i hope microsoft finds ways to get us a Dark Templar game, some sort of shooter following Fenix and Raynors story. Etc.
I would love to see a show or a new game from this series! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
