Thanks for watching. I really appreciate your supports. The anchovies curved not because it is frozen. It is cursed because of two hooks and the line plus the magic thread keep it curved all day. I am the only one does this and it is very effective. It take some practices to make it perfect. When you wrap the magic thread, make sure to wrap tightly at the two ends and not too tight to the body of the bait. After tying, adjust the distance of two hooks to make sure the Bait curved. If troll with current/tide, make the bait curved more so it can spin more and when troll against the current/tide, make it curved less so it won't spin too much. Make sure to have the swivel in the middle of the leader so that the leader won't be twisted because the bait spins. I have caught many Halibuts with this technique. Good luck fishing.
@@sirawesomeness316 you need to go to the Tomales Bay because it is dangerous to fish on kayak on Berkeley flat. Try to catch jacksmelts in Tomales Bay to drift in a strong current and switch to trolling on the weak current. You can troll along the Alameda Rockwall for Halibut. I prefer herrings over anchovies because sharks and stingrays love the anchovies. Good luck and be safe.

Thanks for your informative video! I went out on my kayak in the bay for the very first time last weekend! I was unsuccessful but feel confident about going back now that I've done it once. I'll have to give frozen squid method a try.
The best for halibuts is to catch jacksmelts and drift or slow troll. Halibuts and stripers love it. If you use squids, you need to use flasher. So your squids will be lively. Good luck.
Wow~ I am very interested in about how to fishing ~ Amazing explanation~ You are a specialist!^^ Thank you very much for great video!^^ Please take care of yourself and all of your family!^^❤️
@@JUNationFishing I am very serious. I am dying here for not going fishing. I know I can go fishing by myself, but I want to help the medical workers who are fight on the front line by stay home to save lives.
I have never set hook when fishing for Halibuts. I using let the Halibuts set hook by itself. Even the treble hook hid inside the squids, but when the Halibut strikes the baits, the hook will easily penetrate the squids.
It depends on the size of the baits. If you use squids it big jacksmelts, you can use big hooks, size 4/0 and use size 1/0 or 2/0 for anchovy or Herring. Thanks for watching brother. It means a lot to me. Stay safe and tight line.
That was a great video, hopefully more to come. Have you tried trolling that squid in the bay or just in the ocean? I usually only drift live anchovies, but it can get costly and a lot of wasted bait. Thank you again for the instructions!
Thanks for watching. I have tried the squids in the ocean and in the Bay. I caught 2 over 20 pounds Halibuts in the Bay last year. I love to troll with frozen baits because it covers more areas than drifting. I only drift when there is strong current or when I have live jacksmelts or live anchovy. Stay safe and tight line.
As always, very informative video my friend. A couple of questions, do halibut generally stay in the same area or do they move around. I assume Lings generally stay near the same location but I was not sure about halibuts. While watching TLA fish, I noticed Hali like to be in sandy bottom floors and on steep drop-offs. My second question, do you change your trolling speed based on whether you use frozen anchovies vs squid, the squid setup might be heavier so your trolling speed might be higher than your 1st set up. But maybe the flasher will make the squid bait float a little bit. Thanks again for all your great tips and stay safe.
All fish move around. Lingcod move to shallow water in winter time to spawn and I guess Halibuts love to go deeper during winter time. Yes Halibuts love Sandy bottom. Hower, I caught some of big Halibuts in the Sandy bottom near the Rocky areas while trolling for lings. I caught 2 of my big Halibuts in the Bay near the deep shipping chanel. I usually troll the same speech for both sqid or anchovy or jacksmelts, but I sometimes speed up, slow down, change directions to get their attentions and I do the same when trolling for salmons. Thanks for watching as always. Stay safe. Sorry I could not test my special kayaks for you because it does not fit in my pond. You have to wait then. 😀
Fishing 247 Looking forward to seeing your modified pedal kayak one day in HMB 😀. By the way, if one day you want to borrow my Hobie Compass (as you might have seen in Ish with Fish, Moo’s or TLA video) to fish with Moo, let me know. I have floating sidekick on it so it is super stable, or if we kayak together one day I always carry tow rope with me in case you need a AAA kayak tow 🙂. Looking forward to your next video.
From my experience, it doesn't matter much. Sometimes I put the hoochie 12" above the hooks and other time I leave it near the hooks and still catch fish. Halibuts sometimes went after my hoochie.
Try running that hoochie down onto a snap swivel and put a hook on the snap in case they hit the artificial lure. It will likely help keep the integrity of the line strength too by not tying the double overhand bead stop. Just a thought
@@bayareadoghouse you are right about the double knots strength. However, I usually use 40 lbs mono and it do the double overhand knot and test with the hooks I use for the rig and the hook bended or straightened and the leader did not break. If you are not lazy, you can use the swivel to stop the hoochie to slide down. Thanks for yourself great comment. I really appreciate it.
Good stuff!! I have to remember the 3 squid setup. Curious, do you still use the 3 squid setup if it's live or only when it's frozen? Thanks for taking the time to make the video and sharing the information 😁

The hoochie/plastic squid will get the halibuts attention. You can tie a hook at the hoochie. Halibuts sometimes go after the hoochie. Thanks for watching. Let me know should have any questions. Tight line.
Thanks for watching. It depends on how strong is the current and if you troll with or against the current. The average speed is around 1.5 to 3 mph. If you troll against the current, you can troll slower because the current will make your baits spin fast enough. Sometimes you need to speed up, slow down change directions to entire the butts to strike. You do not need to set hook with halibuts, most of the time they hook themselves. Use light action tip rod to catch more halibuts. Good luck fishing and stay safe. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate your supports.

Baby octopus is not a very good baits even for rock cod and ling cods. Whoever, big octopus spitted out by ling cod is the best bait for trophy lings.
