    Nice video. I do the same setup without the spreader bar and used 3 way swivel instead. I also tie my own leader sliding 1/0-2/0 octopus hooks with 2/0-4/0 treble depending on the bait size. I try to bring several for my friend and family too. Thanks for the video. 👍🙏

    You got the time. Learn to tie its relaxing and a part of fishing. Great video . I’ll rock the same setup without the spreader or the bobber . A few feet off the bottom . Don’t wanna loose all that jewelry 🤙

    Wonder if that set up would work for pacific halibut

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  4 года назад +1

      Huston Witt I would think so.. but I would definitely go bigger on the hooks and tackle.. and use a bigger dodger or sling blade.. let me know if you try it out.. I haven’t tried fishing for pacific halibut yet.. thanks for watching! Tight lines 🎣

    Thank for educating a newbie. how fast do you troll?

    • @1Tinman329
      @1Tinman329 5 лет назад +2

      nvm 2.5 to 3 mph.... thanks

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  5 лет назад +2

      as a general starting point 2.5 to 3 mph.. but the action is what is most important.. depends on if you're going with the tide or against it.. thanks for the comment.. and thanks for watching..

      @Soltfire 5 лет назад +1

      2-2.2 knots. if you see your flasher spinning you're going too fast. should be wobbling going side to side. hope this helps.

      Daniel A glad you liked the video.. I will definitely show another video of one with the bait all threaded up.. it’s almost time to hit the bay for them again! I’ll be heading out before they have live bait and get on the troll bite I hope! Thanks for watching.. and tight lines!🎣

    I use standard dodger...did the larger sling blade get more/bigger fish for you?

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  5 лет назад +1

      I have only got to use the sling blades for a short time and all the fish hooked were getting off .. not sure if the large tide that day and the bigger action of the sling blade was the cause?? But they did produce alot of strikes and hookups .. I need more time on the water to get them figured out.. the normal 6 inch dodgers still work really great! Thanks for watching!

      Reel Life Fisherman Thanks! Might take a few of my Kokanee sling blades on my next halibut troll. I also to improve action, I create just a little bend in my bait by snugging up the top hook relative to the treble hook at tail. It does make a difference!

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  5 лет назад +1

      Yes running the smaller sling blade might be better.. I'm using the large 9" ones and they put off a huge flash and good action.. but might be too big.. we will see I'll keep playing around with them.. thanks for your comments..

    U can use 3 hooks in the sf bay. Try placing a hook on your leader with a snell knot, then place your hoochie over it. I’ve caught lots of fish on the hoochie instead of the bait. U can also jam a toothpick in the bead and break it off instead of using bobber stops.

    Seems like this rig with a longer distance between dodger and the rest would be a better rig for salmon fishing, than halibut. Check out how they fish for halibut in Alaska. Thanks for posting.

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  4 года назад

      Hashem N it would definitely work for salmon fishing with a longer leader.. the California species of halibut is different from pacific species.. much smaller but tastes better I think.. we troll the rig bouncing the bottom.. and they ambush it when it comes by or over them.. we also troll with rapalas or yozuri minnows.. also drift live anchovy’s.. it is a bucket list fishing trip for me to get up to Alaska and reel up one of those barn doors you guys call halibut! 😂🎣 we have pacific halibut out in the ocean but are not as easy to catch and they don’t seem to get quite as large as the ones in Alaska.. thanks for watching I appreciate it.. tight lines!

    Thanks for showing how to properly use those swivels. It's a pain in the ass to open them up, which makes since now.

    I like to use a fish flash instead of a dodger, I've found that dodgers will spin if speed is too fast,

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  5 лет назад

      Sorry just saw your comment it was hiding in a possible spam folder..? weird.. yes the dodgers will spin if trolled too fast I've tried using sling blades too.. I try to stay around 2.5 mph but I always check the action.. might give your rig a try! I'm always looking for different ways of catching fish! Thanks for watching and your comment..

    lick the line! the bobber stop will go on better, or wet it with a little water
