- Commercial fishing for California Halibut along the California coastline from my kayak. The fishing can be tough this time of year but it can pay off big time for those who put in the time. After several days/hours of trials and tribulations, I was finally able to make it happen and put a huge California Halibut on my kayak. This fish was so greedy it bit both of my live baits I had in the water. How do I know? Check out the video to see my detective work to solve the mystery!

In your next video for halibut can you review the weight, leader length, hook size and swivel set up? Thanks -- everyone is rooting for you with these big ones!
Great suggestion! I've done it in depth on my patreon but I will give a general overview next time out!
If you purchase a Hayward rig for halibut you will have the perfect live bait pre tied set up. Just replace the treble hook. Hope this helps.
Nice video
Nice work with the CSI forensic bite mark research. :) LOL! Way to go man.
Thanks! I'm ready to join the FBI if fishing doesn't work out for me
I fish this same area pretty regularly and ive never come close to one that big! Good stuff man
Matching the teeth with the bight marks was genius. Getting to see exactly how that halibut bit the bait was a great thing to learn. Tight lines mate!
Yes super cool to see just how they attack the bait from the bottom!
You are a LEGEND bro! I have been watching you for about 4 years now. Thanks for always getting me pumped for my own kayak fishing trips up in Humboldt, CA! Thank you for the no BS fishing content! I almost drove down to the sportsman's expo in Sac just to meet you. One day I hopefully will. Can a fisherman be a fan of another fisherman?? You rock bro, never change!
I appreciate that! I’m sure our paths will cross at some point! Looking forward to that day!
How wonderful you are able to stick with it!!! Congrats!!!
Beautiful fish! Congrats again Adam!
Great work as always, thank you for sharing
Nice congrats, not giving up way to go bud.
Love your channel ...Hey I fish for Halibut down in San Diego, thought i would give you a little advice. When they pop off like that just leave the rod there and don't reel. I cant tell you how many of them jump back on. Tight lines buddy
Thanks for the tip!
best advice forreal, for some odd reason, not many people do that... it's shocking how many we get that come back
Be patient for them too, sometimes it takes hours to come back…
Hey Adam! Nice reward for your patience and determination. Great video!!
Great CSI work aligning bite to bait!
Best kayak channel fishing man . 🫲
Probably my favorite video so far. We’ve all been there. It’s like I tell my son and his little buddies you can do everything right and still lose because the fish gets a say. Awesome fish!! The struggle is real.
Love that!
Congratulations!
It's hard work but so worth it.
Amazing man keep it up!!
Thank you, friend, for sharing your experience about how to fish very well,👍
Really cool lining up the bite marks man, awesome stuff!
🤜💥🤛
Thanks 👍
Another monster, Adam. Keep going.
Nice one! last time I kayaked there I lost my gear, it rained on me, I got stuck in storm, and got sea sick! The italian restaurant next to the boat launch has a great food though ;)!
Way to keep the streak going. Ty for another great vidio. Mike
Always!
Quite the awesome smile as you brought that halibut in! Great job!!!!
Yes! Thank you!
Halibut head shakes are up and down giving them the unique bounce shake
Beautiful Hali! Would love to have one like that!
Wish I could get a hold of some of those fresh fish. You do an amazing job!
Hard pays off 💪🏼 🎣
Greetings from Redondo Beach CA 🇺🇸. Nice video. Great catch. Cheers 🥂
Nice job Buttermilk!
Nice doormat wow man!!!! Nice 👍
Nice fish, Adam! ❤
Thanks! 👍
Nice catch.
Great job 💯👍
Love your videos. It’s like seeing Short Round twitch the voice of Kermit T Frog and Patrick Mahomes.
great csi on that mackeral bite!
Another stud !! 👍
nice job!!!
You would of been so mad if you would of lost that halibut. I know I would be. Nice catch .definitely the biggest halibut I've ever seen you catch.
What a streak! Good on you. Going to take an exploratory trip in March OP. My freezer is near empty except for some blue fin a friend brought me. Need to start stocking up. I'm sure I'll see you out there... somewhere... Tight lines!
Nice! Yeah I’m sure I’ll see you on the water!
Halibut like that are occasionally caught in Coos Bay by salmon fisherman trolling cut plug herring. Biggest one I've seen was about 45 pounds. Most are 10-20 pounds. They are a pretty rare catch. Think I've only caught 3 or 4 in 20+ years of salmon fishing in Coos Bay. They always ID as California halibut.
2:13 those are 4 perfect snacks! man, those look tasty
Excellent
getting me excited for the upcoming season. still a bit cold up here in BC and im new to kayaking, but my goal is to catch some striped surf perch and lingcod this year to start!
You got this!
way to keep pushing
Awesome Monterey halibut lot of big females love this area 🎉
Nice catch...great videos. it was nice meeting in alameda by Rockwall. This is David if you remember..
Yes I do! Nice meeting you too!
Hope to see you in LJ soon, yellowtail homeguards are super hungry 🍻
Can't wait!
Nice!!! One yeee
Good one Cheers
Yea Boy
Lover your videos man! I kayak fish in SF bay.
Thanks for watching!
Nice!!
Awesome vid! What kind of kayak do you have?
BIG FISH 🐟 The streak is alive!
Effort/persistence pays/paid off. Not like summer fishing. Congrats!! North or south of SLO??
Wow! 14 straight months and here I am, a fresh water fisherman who want to hook a hali now 😅 tried 3 times but never caught one before. Not even a shaker 😭
4th time is the charm! 😁
killin it out there! Who needs to fish in the bay 😂
Is this not in the SF bay?
It looks like in Monterey Bay off the Soldiers Club area
Adam while watching your video I was reminded of something that although not specifically about fishing it describes you perfectly.
'So let us not give up...for in due time you will reap, if you do not tire out.'
(Gal. 6:9) You work tirelessly Adam! I appreciate you so much. 😊
Oooooooh dear we all know that feeling, get a hook sharpener keep em deadly , great videos thanks for making them
Look like Monterey big flattys always in the Rey!!! In august we get them 40 plus pounders 🎉
I’m contemplating making a run, you in sf bay or half moon? Keep up the good work, you are getting some quality when you do land one
Nice..made me hungry..
Dude, great vids! Don't bypass those Sardines for eating. Highest omega 3 nutrients in the ocean. Beautiful But too brother. I like to fillet them. Steaks always cook dry and the bone doesn't add any taste, contrary to popular belief. P.S. Just ordered a 3.0 Farmer John Wetsuit from NRS based on your rec. 169.00 not bad.
Nice but! That hook set was the best I've seen in a while. Where do you put in, somewhere near SFO I'm guessing? Tight lines
On that first bite I think you reeled in a little too fast and lost him - you had him😂
That was no fluke. Adam actually did catch that big one Lol
It's not a halibut even if it's called a halibut, it is however still a very big specimen so good stuff:) For the haters=it is technicly a regular flounder with the Fluke as it's closest relative. It is NOT considered a halibut...
Nice slab
I recognize Monterey Bay- fish it regularly.
Oh, I hope your next Kayak will be one with a motor and pedal assist. 😊
What is the black reel you’re using. Great video again
In socal lizardfish is known to be a really good halibut bait!
Good to know!!!
Nice!! About what depth did you catch that halibut?
Great video man. Im in san diego looking for some nice halibut from shore, are there any tips, tricks, and spots that you could point me in. Im not from california so im new to the west coast fishing. Im dying to find some nice sized halibut.
What harbor did you launch at in this video? I’m just getting into salt water fishing. I live near Placerville so not really sure of the landmarks.
I usually find San dabs and lizard fish in a halibut stomach
Hey Adam. Did you launch from ML harbor? Keep the streak alive.
Dudes fasho halibut king of the bay
I would like to get your opinion on my boat and how it would compare to your kayak. I have a nice Gregor 14' aluminum with a 25hp motor. How do you think it would compare with your kayak as far as safety and buoyance out in the ocean any where where you would go with your kayak?
Just for the record, most Pacific mammal stealers are sea lions, not seals. Congrats on landing that big but. In SoCal, a flatty like that would be lucky to be boated before a sea lion tore it apart and away from you.
Can you use sand dabs for bait?
What thickness is the wetsuit? I have a 4/3mm wetsuit i use for surfing, and i think i would be burning up if i used it out kayak fishing. You dont get too hot in it?
does the current/swells get bad out there? Don't know if its a good idea to take my peddle kayak out
As others said. It would be great if you showed your rig set up.
do you catch and cook?
I kind of need that since I love to eat seafood but never get to go fishing... :(
Yes I do! But I also catch and sell. I have a commercial license for selling halibut
What kind of reel do you use?
Looks like a lot of your bites are later in the morning or afternoon might be a good way to attack them in the winter
Definitely!
how do you determine where to find mackeral when on boat or Kayak?
Just look around until you find them!
Nice. Where’s the place at?
Streak N 🦈 …….. 🏃♂️
If you look at the exact moment the first big fish came off, you let off the pressure on the rod tip just a HAIR as you were distracted and talking to the camera.
FSI fish scene investigator!
Time to make challeng harder keeper every week
lol that would be a good one!!!!
I had 2 lings, 3 sharks, 2 lost strikes and a 36.5. No 40 yet
TOAD! Did you end up selling it? What did you fetch for it? Way to grind it out man!
Yep, sold for $200
What rod are you using?
Would it be easy to see your bait underwater while trolling and caprure the strike?
You should be able to with an underwater camera
Catching a huge halibut is great and certainly legal, but when they get that big they produce exponentially a larger number of eggs. Alon is going to school for it, as you know, and he has been talking about that lately, like only keep the ones from 25-35 inches or so... Just a thought for the future of the fishery. Another great video, Thanks for your hard work, Adam! I think he talks about in this video: ruclips.net/video/y3eUL0uVV3U/видео.html&ab_channel=Fisherman%27sChronicles
Bro, don't sleep on the lizard fish. I've caught a lot of halibut on them in MB
Good to know!
At it Again…
I’m A Jellyfish!
did you get a bit sore from the paddling
Yes!
