This river has eel river strain steelhead up to 20lbs but the upper section is typically battle fishing when the fish are present. lower sections offer much chromer fish and easier pressure
She's done son, pretty sure it was her last run ! Great job on the release. She provided the best opportunity for use to experience that fishery in the future.
When a tributary comes into a river it creates eddies. Those fish will use the eddies to conserve energy looking for food. The will see food and dart out into the current and catch it, then return to the Eddie.
What did I win? Watched it on my TV, so incorrect time stamp here but at 3:01pm Pacific time I was the first view of this one! No Views * 1 min ago :) Free Bay Area fishing lesson? Another great video, Adam, thanks for sharing so much with us!
💛 ...i'm assuming it's the american... the local fish reports (bob simms, saturday morning on kfbk, am1530, podcast on iheartradio), says that with the high flows, the steelhead are close to the bank (like 10-15 feet)...
Correct but alot of people come to that area and snag em it’s sad the true fisherman want this fishery to improve and last but there will always be those poachers
I went out this week but only hooked up on smolts I do want to fish that last area but it can get crowded. U hookin up on that spoo. Gave me confidence that I am doing the correct idea too. For that last part of the river how long are you letting the spoons drop before reeling
Very enjoyable watching as always. Could you please sometimes comment on the likely texture and taste after cooking and preferred method of the various species you catch, especially through the stages of spawning and environmental factors.
Adam, I'm curious. What are your thoughts about using a bobber with a spoon for depth control? I might be overthinking it, but it should mimick the presentation with a salmon egg. It even might work better if cast upstream.
@kelliervinc3998 I could be wrong. But there are basically three runs of steelhead head(summer, fall, and winter) so they are in the river almost all year. Some of the smolts might not migrate and hold over. Unfortunately, the hatchery doesn't plant trout, because it would enhance the fishery.
You are clearly missing it .... go up river ... find the island and fish both sides...and mostly importantly ...come back in the late summer fall with lower flows ...Cheers
From my earlier years of fishing from the late '50's, both many CA streams and surfs it's seems so very different NOW to fish for and catch (let alone eat different looking flesh) non-wild, natural hatchery raised fish. Baits, lures and techniques too are somewhat non natural, so different. Nimbus (blockage) Dam?? To Where now does "THE RIVER RUN THROUGH IT"? Fellow fishers don't loose the trees for the forest. ADAM, comment?
The mighty American River. Yes sir. Good luck

Great video. Catching finks is fun and you finally got your big one. Persistence paid off. Good going!
Nice job on that hen & the "1/2 pounders".

Alright been waiting for a Video all week!
Do you have a review of the waders you use?
Nice fish. When you keep fish from the AR, what are you finding in the stomach? Thanks, tight lines
Do you ever fish Bear River up in Placer County/Nevada County? New to the area and curious how it is. Thanks
I always see wading the opposite side of the river, downstream from that bridge. I need to grab my pole and get down there.
Was that rubber bead or hard bead
Lil Cleo for the win again! My favourite
Nice job. Are you near Sacramento

Whatre the spec’s for the rod and reel you’re using?
That was a major trout walk about. Great video
Little Cleo”s are the best on trout 👍🏻🎣
I enjoy watching your videos. Can you add the locations of your videos.
If you don’t mind, what river? And if a big river, what part?
Did you find fish Below that first bridge you fished? It sure Looked fishy.
Yes, those are steelhead smolts that were recently released. That river doesn't have a "true" trout population anymore.
😢
I believe is does. Me and my brother live nearby and have been fly fishing that area for 24 years. He catches about ten natives a season. Me about 2?

When are you going to do a catch clean and cook¿??????¿?¿??????????😮😢

11 to 12 inchers, stock trout
I still have some little Cleo”s
Tail stripped from SEALIONS!!!!!!!!
is this wa state or BC?
Aloha. California.

You need to hit sailors bar and use a bead that’s where the big fish are not those trout your catching

You could have had a nice meal by now???😢
😠 P r o m o s m
I don't understand why you want to catch a big Steelhead or salmon to just hurt the fish to just release it? I can understand if it is for food 🥝???😢
Aloha. I think you answered your own question.
😂😂😂
If I were a steelhead I would want to be released after being caught....
@@kelliervinc3998 😂😂😂😆😆😆
No. Nv here, how much longer is your season??
