Awesome! I'm sure that Northern CA folks are envious of our Dungeness season being 365 days! That striper was very big. I can only imagine what it must have been like to reel it up onto the pier! I never made it to Pacifica when I was growing up in Northern CA, just Santa Cruz area because that was my stomping grounds. The weather looked amazing during your visit, too! Safe travels, Hale'
Thank you. Pacifica pier is fun to visit. Lots of action. We are 100% lucky to have 365 days of dungeness season. They close it around 1st week of July and open sometime 1st or 2nd week of November, then it's organized chaos at the pier. Hope to be up there back home soon. .🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@BackFishing thanks I love fishing I live in Belmont and just now I have started leopard shark fishing and it is super fun just last week I caught 9 sharks and a eagle bat ray in 3 hours
This year is weird. Pacifica hasnt produced anything except dungeness since 2014 and even then,.. the dungeness keepers only came to those that got the very end of the pier. I used to go every year but eventually gave up on Pacifica and now go elsewhere.
There are other options, but you are right most of the dungeness come at the end of the pier and surprised to see large red rock crabs too. Thanks for the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
You’re right it seems like there’s been less rock crab than usual. I still catch them tho. Easier with a crab snare. But your most likely to pull in undersized dungees
No real secret anymore. Even before RUclips. This pier in the 70's always produced. Fishing derbies exist through local bait shops made it popular. There were so much more bigger fish back then I really never fished that pier. Appreciate you. Thanks for the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Well Hale you finally ticked me off!! What kind of person would make a video of my secret spot and post it!!! That's pretty dang rude!! Now there will be other people stacked up and fishing there!!OK, I don't fish on the pier but come crab season I can often be found out there. There are a lot better spots but the Pier People are a lot of fun! In Calif you may fish from a pier or a jetty without a license. Go out in a boat or fish from shore you better have a license on you! Crab season opened in October or November this year?
Too funny Gene. You are certainly right about the community. There is a cool community on the pier especially crabbing season. Good luck. Hope they don't delay the crabbing opener. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
We never go on the opener, not even to my secret beach. Either one of them. My wife used to go with us to the pier. She just loved meeting all the pier regulars. Most of the pier people are locals, we tried to get there every month so we knew a lot of them. With gas prices what they are in the state we didn't get there much last season. The Whale problem we have does not affect the snaring, usually just the commercial crabbing. The inshore fishing closure has affected us though!!

Question!if I buy California fishing license can I use that too for crabbing?
@@reeloutdoorlife You will have to check CDFW to make sure. You may require a shellfish license or tag just like in my state of OR. GL
@@reeloutdoorlifefishing license covers crabbing.
@@BackFishing A shout out to that wonderful little cafe on the Pier. The sandwiches are so delish.
That a cool fish spot with sink and running water , wish we had one of this in the east.

Tight lines. I was impressed of your casting.

I saw a pacific sunfish off the pier there a few years ago. Fun pier when it's not shoulder to shoulder
I wouldn't doubt it. I may have seen one as a teenager out there too.
Going their this saturday early morning. What is the best bait to use for snare traps on crabbing and best bait for fishing out there in the pier???
Sorry late notice. Squid combo with fatty chicken parts or frozen anchovies are my go to. GL
@@BackFishing thank you so much bro!

Oh- and if you don't wanna fish- the views are fantastic. So to all of you amateur photographers out there...

pier fishing no fishing license required?
CA regs. Make sure to read for details on where you can fish without a license. GL
DUNGENESS CRAB SEASON It's until the last day of July check the fishing game calendar and seasons
used to be Berkeley pier before it closed down
Probably agree. Heard good stories.
You could have gotten your fishing license ONLINE.
Thought I could. Next time. Thanks 🤙🏽🤙🏽
If I close my eyes, stick my head in my bait freezer, and turn on audio of old Chinese and Hispanic men talking, it almost feels like I'm still there!
YUP....easy to remember that. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
You guys wanna catch strip bass and cat fish you go to vaqueros in Livermore
Thank you for sharing with the fishing community your spots.
Vaqueros is crap lmao

Have to disagree. If you know what month and time. You can catch salmon and stripers. Salmon is closed the last 2 years.
